Kubricks / Carded Kubricks
« on: June 10, 2003, 12:46 PM »
Man, I'd really like to get ahold of these two carded Kubricks as well, but they're going to be WAY pricey!  Haven't even seen them hit eBay yet...

Below is a complete alphabetical list of all of the JediDefender members who have garnered feedback for transactions here in our Trading and/or Classifieds Forums, which will be updated regularly.  We strongly suggest that you use this directory to both verify the feedback of a fellow member you may potentially want to deal with, as well as to leave feedback for members with whom you've recently completed a transaction so others will know how it went.  Also, you're welcome to post a link(s) in your own feedback thread to any additional feedback you may have on eBay, Galactic Hunter, Rebelscum, or elsewhere, and feel free to post feedback here for transactions completed with other members at those sites too!

Please take the time to search for a member's prior personal feedback thread when leaving feedback, before starting an all-new one only if necessary!  Any duplicate member threads will simply be merged by the moderators for your convenience.  Next to each JD member's consolidated feedback link, you will also find their respective cumulative positive feedback total for your reference.  Please see the Bad Trader Thread to post any bad trading experiences you've had here or elsewhere, or to review the nafarious rip-off artists to steer clear of.  In the post immediately following this one, we have also organized the positive feedback numerically as well.

Thanks, and have fun buying, selling, and especially trading, here at JediDefender!

JediDefender has just posted on it's main page an exlusive interview with Vic Wertz, who is the Director of Product Development at Paizo Publishing, which is in charge of the Official Star Wars Fan Club.  So head on over and check out our interview with Vic Wertz!   Then feel free to discuss the interview in this thread, and perhaps even pose a sensible comment, question, or suggestion or two to Mr. Wertz here while you're at it.  He's a member here at JD, so would most likely be able to give you some feedback on your thoughts, or some thoughts on your feedback...   ;)

Another big thanks to Mr. Wertz for taking the time to talk with JediDefender and all of our readers!   8)

Watto's Junk Yard / Your college alma mater...
« on: June 1, 2003, 04:30 PM »
So for those who have been to college - whether you're on your way, are in progress, never quite graduated, or polished off your degree - where'd you go?

I went to UCSB - University of California, Santa Barbara.  Loved it so much I spent 9 years in total there (on and off)!  It's in the same UC chain of schools as UCLA, UC Berkeley, and about 6 others.  Met my wife there too.  She proceeded to go off and get a couple Masters Degrees after that at UCLA and Cal State Northridge (yeah, we know who's got the brains in my family!  ;))...  She's contemplating a PHd now, which frankly doesn't sound too enticing to me at this point - another 5 years or so of only partial income...   :-\

So where did you guys and gals all go?

Saga '02-'04 / Do you compare figures paint jobs before buying?
« on: May 29, 2003, 06:45 PM »
I never used to give a rat's a$$ about analyzing the paint jobs on my figures before buying them.  That was up until the tail end of the POTJ line, when I noticed some wildly varying paint applications on figures like R4-M9, BoShek, etc...  A lot of really sloppy paint apps, with an occasional decent one here and there to be found.

I had also taken notice of the occasional posts here and there around the boards about people who actually took the time to pick out figures with nicely painted eyes, and whatnot.  Always found it a bit strange really, 'til I took a few minutes to do a little comparing at the pegs at some of my local stores.  Lo and behold, there were some figures that were just painted much better than others!  Some VERY noticeable differences within the same figure really...

So when the Saga line finally rolled out a little over a year ago, I suddenly found myself neck deep in a whole new area of OCCD (Obsessive Compulsive Collecting Disorder).  I was a paint app fanatic all of the sudden, and I couldn't control it.  This suddenly made my carded and loose completist ways a lot more challenging (which I didn't much care for)...  So now I not only obsess over finding a nice mint card for the carded collection, but also now obsess over having both the carded and loose figure I get have a very nice paint job to boot!  Oy.   :'(

But like everything else surrounding the collecting of SW, the various challenge makes it worth it IMO.  Might cause an extra headache or two hear and there, but it's fun to know you've managed to pick out the best of the best for your personal collection.  No more coloring outside of the lines on my figures!  And no more cross-eyed buggers either!   :P

As a result, I'm occasionally stuck with a new dilemna now though:  In respect to the carded collection, I'm sometimes stuck with the decision of whether to go with the better card, or the better paint job on the figure within it (I usually choose the card though, unless the paint app is really bad.  But with the loose collection, screw the card - I want the fanciest paint job in town!   :-*  I believe I was discussing this topic with Beth (Jadesfire) a couple weeks back, as she was wondering the same thing:  Nicer card, or better paint job (for the carded folks)?

My favorite paint job pickup so far has been of the Saga Chancellor Palpatine figure, you know - the one with the chicken pox...?!  I realize he's got some age spotting going on in the movies, but c'mon now!  Well, after looking through MANY Palpys back at that time, I managed to find several that had almost no spots on them whatsoever - looked real sharp, and therefore didn't detract from an otherwise incredible figure!  Picked a couple of 'em up, but kept a freaky chicken pox version just for nostalgia as well!   ;)

So regardless of whether you collect carded, loose, or both - which of you folks really spend the time analyzing a number of different figures at the store's pegs to see who has the nicest paint job before buying it?  I know I can't be the only nutcase that does this, so chime in!  I hope I'm not the only nutcase anyways...   :-\  If so, I suppose it won't be the first time...   :-*

EDIT:  Just a quick point of clarification here to avoid any confusion...  I should add that this doesn't have anything to do with trying to hunt down the odd "rare" paint variants that some people consider valuable.  I could care less about that stuff personally.  This is just about looking for the nicest paint jobs for your respective figures...   ;)

Things can get under my skin pretty quick when I'm in an agitatable mood.  This is some of the stuff that has irritated the hell out of me recently:

  • When retail cashiers take the beautiful MOMC figure(s) that I just spent 20 minutes meticulously picking out at the pegs, and proceed to viciously CHUCK it into the bag, smashing it against the surface beneath the bag, and against other figures in the bag as well.  End of MOMC!   >:(  No others nearly as nice left on the pegs either, of course.  HATE that!

  • When speed bumps are more like curbs, so that no matter how slowly you drive over them, it jars your car and your noggin like a mutha'!

  • When your computer mouse goes totally wacky.  You clean the hell out of it, but it still has a mind of it's own and darts indiscriminately around your computer screen, with absolutely no control being relinquished to the user whatsover...

  • Rude and inconsiderate drivers - mostly rich folks in fancy cars, cell phone users, and "soccer moms" (which is usually just a combination of the prior two groups).  I could go into pages of detail on this rant, but I'm sure you all know where I'm comin' from!

  • When my friends tease me about my baggy sweater.   >:(   :P

  • Screaming and crying babies in public, whose parents act like they could care less.

  • Waiting in lines.  Any lines.  Stop lights too!  Having to wait for anything basically...

  • Finding small lint balls in the end of my socks when I go to put them on, leftover from their recent washing/drying...

  • Invading ant armies.

  • Way tall people with freaky hats or funky hairdos in front of me at the movie theater.  Loud popcorn eaters too!

  • When someone pisses right next to me in the men's restroom, even though there's plenty of other urinals available further away from me.

  • Telemarketers.  Especially the ones that call at 8:00 in the morning when I'm still asleep, to ask if we need any new windshields on any of our cars.  Might as well throw in the rant about the TONS of e-mail spam here too!

  • When Pizza Hut or Domino's puts my wife's green peppers or onions on MY side of the pizza, which should only have sausage and pepperoni on it dammit!

  • Professional sports officiating screw ups - any sport.
I'm sure I'll think of plenty more later on, but that's probably a pretty good start for now...   ;D

So chime on in with the stuff that pisses you off, bugs the crap out of you, and generally drives you insane!

158
I picked up a couple extras of some of the Deluxe figures for army building, but changed my mind and no longer want them.   Give me a holler if you're interested in anything, otherwise they're just going to get returned to Target.  I'll have to check on the card conditions later and add them in (all prices include the 8.25% tax that I paid too)...

Deluxe Clonetrooper w/ Speederbike  $10.81

Spider Droid (wind-up)  $10.81

Super Battle Droid Builder  $10.81

I've also got some extras of the somewhat HTF beardless Endor Rebel Soldier for $5.18 (several MOMC), if anyone needs those...

159
I ran this question by another board a while back, but I figured I'd find out where all my fellow JD'ers stand on the subject...   8)

So how many of you haven't exactly "outted" yourselves as a die-hard Star Wars fan and/or collector to some or all of the people that you know (friends, family, co-workers, etc.)?

As for me, my family and in-laws are pretty well aware of my obsessive compulsive Star Wars disorder, but really only my wife is fully aware of how insanely large the collecting portion of that disorder truly runs.  I'd hide it from her too if I could just figure out how, but those dang storage bills and ever-growing stacks of boxes in our house just give it away every time!

I've only let a couple of my very closest friends in on my "little secret", but still generally don't let them know the full extent of it.  Most of my friends really have no idea though.  That goes for most of my co-workers and various other acquaintances as well.  A few of them know there's a mild level of interest, but not total "fanboy" status and psycho collector by any means.  I've generally had the majority of my collection stored away due to lack of space to date, so no one's ever really seen it other than my wife.  I even told the great majority of people that I was going out to Indianapolis last April for a wedding, and not the C2 25th Anniversary SW convention.   :-[

I guess I've always been one of those sports/beer/women/cars/tools kind of guys (please no sexist flaming  ;)), and rabid Star Wars fandom doesn't exactly fit in with my "persona" or crowd so much.  I assume many of you will probably tell me that I should have more self-confidence and to just be myself - Star Wars and all, or that my friends (or I) must be too shallow if they can't accept me for "the complete package" of who I am.  Perhaps you'd be right on both accounts to an extent.

What got me pondering this issue was that my wife and I are neck deep into our house hunting right now (as you've probably seen me ranting about), and in this future house I plan on finally unleashing the fury that is JediMAC's Star Wars collection (speaking in third person here, I know)!  I've been designing my lavish Star Wars room(s) for quite a while in my head, and now that it is finally going to happen (I think), I started wondering what I'm going to do when people come over to visit us...  Just lock up the Star Wars room, or completely "out" myself right then and there on the spot by giving them a peek into my alter-ego?

Hmm... I'm seriously leaning towards the "outting" of myself, solely because I don't think I could contain myself and not show off my collection after all of the time and hard work (and $) that I've put into attaining it, and the more hard work I'll be putting into setting it all up and displaying it (I'm thinking MUSEUM here).  I'm sure some of my friends might be pretty surprised to see the collection, but I know that it wouldn't really affect anything as far as our friendships go, when all is said and done.

Though I LOVE my Star Wars hobby/addiction, I guess it really just boils down to me feeling a little self-conscious about being a 32 year old man who collects toys, and a whole lot of them at that...

So how about you, what's your story? "Out", or "still in the closet"?

Other Toy Lines / McFarlane Sportspicks
« on: May 9, 2003, 12:44 PM »
I primarily collect the NFL line.  I get scattered pieces from the NHL and MLB lines.  It's ususally dependent upon me liking the player, or the player being from a NY area team.  I don't collect the NBA line at all, and won't be getting any of the NASCAR pieces, either.

162
This may not apply to everyone here, but I'm sure a number of you have been through the house (or condo) buying at least once now - perhaps some of the old farts like Brent and Dale are on their fifth abode by now...

Anyways, as some of you are already aware, the Mrs. and I have been diligently home shopping now for a solid three months (first time mind you), and let me tell you - IT SUCKS!  Especially here in L.A.  I'm obviously a nitpicky freak as most of you already know, and Patty's not much better, so we're a tough couple to satisfy.  Throw in the fact that her and I really like different things in a house and its location and it's a recipe for disaster.  She likes trees and hills and quaint little "fixer-upper" houses, and I like the big city with neon lights, shopping malls, movie theaters, etc., plus a nice, clean and new home works very well for my future place.  Oh yeah, and throw in the fact that we're not terribly rich (likely due to my obsessive SW collecting), and are searching in some rather affluent areas...  Needless to say, things ain't working out so well thus far...   >:(

So around and around we go, where we wind up, nobody knows.  That's assuming we wind up anywhere!  The housing market is absolutely insane here.  Most of the places that we're interested in generally sell in a matter of hours after getting listed.  Yes, we're talking hours here.  Usually not even enough time to jam over and check the potential pad out.  Add to that the fact that the rich folks around here keep outbidding us by several grand, as most places wind up going for at least $10,000 over their original list price.  See where I'm going with this...?   :-\

Plus, my mom is our real estate agent - I know, usually a bad move to involve the family, but considering it's going to save us almost $10,000 grand for her commision that we're not going to be charged with, and it's worth putting up with her incessant rambling, suggestions, criticism, and supposed insight (though my wife may disagree with that)...

So say it with me...  Mindnumbingly, annoyingly, absolutely freaking aggravating!  There, that should suffice for now.  Just wanted to get that off my chest and share with y'all!  More gripes to follow, as our quest continues...

So what about you folks?  How have your experiences been with the situation?  I know several of you are doing the same thing right now...  How goes it?  Hopefully better than our searching...

Saga '02-'04 / What do you want for your Jedi Master Points?
« on: April 30, 2003, 10:08 PM »
With rumblings (again  ::)) that Hasbro might finally have some ideas in place for our beloved Jedi Master Points, what would you like to get with your points?  How many have you got saved up?

Not sure what I'd like to be honest, but I don't think that I'd want it to be a figure though.  Not sure why, really...  Some cool figure accessory packs, small droids, diorama backdrops, or a ton of the clear plastic stands would be nice.  Perhaps even a real nice "Star Wars Collector" T-shirt would be fun!  How about a Hasbro figure encylopedia (like Sansweet's old AFA book)?   8)  Probably way too over the top with that one, I know...   :-\

No idea how many points I've got, but considering I have tons of extras of many figures, and save all of my cardbacks and packaging for EVERYTHING I open - which is a complete modern collection (and have kept ALL of my old receipts), I would have to guess my point collection would be in the upper 5-10% of all collectors to be honest.  No idea what the actual number would amount to though...

So what ideas do you folks have that would seem fair or cool for exchanging your Jedi Master Points in for?

164
Did anyone else collect this line?  I'm not talking about the larger MicroMachine playset heads that opened up, but the smaller, walnut sized mini-heads from Galoob that open up and have a single Galoob MicroMachine figure in them with a nifty little background, that corresponds to the head of the character in which it is contained.  This was a very cool line of miniatures that I really wish had continued on...

This is suprisingly a rather challenging little collection to put together, actually.  There were originally 4 carded sets with 3 heads each, available here in the States.  There were additional single heads of Vader and C-3PO available as parts of larger sets (and as a WM mailaway with the TPM DVD).

Here's where it gets tricky...  There were 5 additional carded sets with 3 heads each - ONLY available abroad (possibly only in Asia).  These things will generally run you about $20-$25 a set on eBay (or at least they used to when I was shopping for them)!  (the earlier U.S. ones were about $5 a piece)  I snagged sets 5, 6, 8 & 9 for about $75 (shipped) from a fella in Singapore a couple years ago.  Then there were 12 single heads (individually bagged) that were given out in very limited numbers in a Pizza Hut promotion a few years ago (all of which were included in 4 of the 5 foreign sets - just not Coll. 7).

I've been trying to get 2 of each mini-head, so I can display them next to eachother - one closed, and one open with the figure displayed inside.  Scored 9 of the HTF foreign heads in a trade just 2 weeks ago, and now just need one more Coll. 5 and two of the VHTF Coll. 7...

Here's a breakdown of the sets from the back of one of my cards:

U.S. Carded Releases:
Collection 1: Boba Fett, Admiral Ackbar, Gamorrean Guard
Collection 2: Nien Nunb, Greedo, Tusken Raider
Collection 3: Jawa, Yoda, Boussh
Collection 4: Bib Fortuna, Figrin Daan, Biker Scout

Darth Vader (available in a large set with 6 of the above heads)
C-3PO (available individually bagged for Walmart's TPM DVD promotion, and in a larger set with 6 of the subsequent foreign release heads)

Foreign Carded Releases:
Collection 5: Bossk, Duros, Stormtrooper (actually a Sandtrooper inside)
Collection 6: 2-1B, Weequay, Imperial Royal Guard
Collection 7: Zuckass, X-Wing Pilot Luke, Snowtrooper (the TOUGHEST set to find)
Collection 8: Wampa, Wickett, Tie Fighter Pilot
Collection 9: Salacious Crumb, Jabba, AT-AT Driver

Pizza Hut (individually bagged):  All 12 heads from Collections 5, 6, 8 and 9 - which explains why the foreign carded Collection 7 is so expensive and in such high demand.

So basically you're looking at 29 heads in total...

Here's a nice photo reference at RS on these spiffy little miniature noggins:

Oh God, my wife is absolutely going to kill me.  In a moment of fleeting angst and anxiety, I made the impromptu decision that I am going to collect this line of authentically detailed miniature replica die cast Star Wars vehicles from Code 3.  They are going to be absolutely amazing.

Leading off the stunning line-up will be their $295 Millenium Falcon.  Did I mention my wife is going to KILL me?!  I just signed up on their pre-order list for this bad boy, and all the rest of the awesome vehicles that are sure to follow (though hopefully at a slightly cheaper price)...  :'(  I LOVE miniatures (especially Star Wars ones), and aside from the X-Wing and Tie Fighter from Icons a few years back that went for around $1,500 each, these Code 3 Collectibles ships are going to be as good as it ever gets!  But I just know that if I don't order the Falcon right now (and other subsequent ships later), the moment I finally see them I will absolutely regret not getting them - despite their hefty price tags.  Just reading the details on the Falcon at Code 3's site is making me drool all over myself.  These will likely be the most cherished pieces in my entire collection...

You can check out all the details and place a pre-order at Code 3 Star Wars Collectibles.

So is anyone else going to bite the bullet and go after these fine works of art?  I'm sure Adam will be joining me at least...  Right Adam?   ;)
