The Vintage Collection / Re: 2024 Last Figure Standing Poll
« on: October 9, 2024, 09:29 PM »
It's 2024, it boggles my mind that they can't do some sort of online exclusive 12-figure case wave of the most wanted TVC figures. Make it some sort of Haslab or even a Pulse/Fan Channel exclusive.

Saw Foster the People last night at a club since they're in town for ACL Fest. Incredible show!

I picked up that R5-D4/Pit Droids set at Target as part of their 30% off sale on exclusives. These hit only about half of the local Target stores a while back and they've been off the shelves for months at this point, but I found a store close by that had them in stock. I don't buy much Star Wars anymore, but I did want the R5, the rest are a nice little bonus.

There is an Ollie's 90 miles from me that I would absolutely drive to if I could grab a Henry Sr. and a Short Round. I figure it will all be Sallahs and Indys.

I'm trying to remember about the Black Rancor campaign and the Luke Skywalker stretch goal.  Didn't that figure end up getting made in a slightly different rendition?  And then Hasbro was prepared to add Malakili.

Those tiers were horrendous. First unlock was a Gamorrean Guard, a rerelease on a new card. Second unlock was a bunch of bone/skull props. 3rd tier was Salacious Crumb, another rerelease. Tier 4 was the new Luke based on Jabba's Palace, and I think the version they made for ROTJ40 was based on the Throne Room attire. But they already had also made a Luke based on Jabba's Palace as a Walmart Exclusive, so none of the figures were new.

From what I see online, TVC still has a pretty healthy fanbase. And it's one of the rare modern toylines that has held or increased in value over the years. If the Tonnika Sisters' first figures aren't enough to at least get the base package backed, what are we even doing here anymore? People have been requesting them from Hasbro for as long as I have been on the Internet! I know Star Wars isn't popular at all right now, but there is no way that interest is so low that this set can't get made.

I'm sure this will be like the Barge where a huge surge at the end gets it made. My personal conspiracy theory is that the US economy stinks right now, and $4-500 is a LOT to ask for most people.

Any chance it could be a new Big Naboo Royal Starship for TPM 25th anniversary? Podracer set?

20th anniversary of ROTS is next year too...

Mattel getting the SW license was heavily rumored a few years ago.

LEGO / Re: Recent Acquisitions

Sorry for your loss, McMetal.

I've sold LEGO on Craigslist and Facebook Marketplace. Depending on the set, you will get a lot of hits. You'll have to weed through weird people too. Any sale I've made, I always do the meetup in a public shopping center parking lot, juuuuust in case. But also, my experiences have been pleasant. It's a lot like dealing with people on here, most people buying know their stuff and want to make it as quick and painless as possible.

If you really just want to dump the stuff, though, see if there are any LEGO resell shops in your area. We have one here called Bricks and Minifigs, which I think may be a national chain. They sell pretty much anything LEGO related and buy used sets both boxed and opened. They WILL do their best to undersell you (they prefer sets to either be carded or loose/fully built and lower the value from there), but again, if you just want to be done with it, it's probably the easiest route to go.

The Vintage Collection / Re: The Future of Star Wars Collecting?

I don't know how it is for everyone else, but in my area, Target and Walmart have flipped and Target is now the trashy, unkept store. Outside of TBS General Lando and TVC Bespin Lando, I haven't seen non-exclusive figures at Target in years. Not that Walmart is any better about stocking toys, but I digress. Target potentially dropping the lines really doesn't change much for me personally.

I started selling a bunch of stuff on Mercari last year, which I believe is owned by eBay, but have gotten similar DMs. I'd say 1 out of every 10 messages usually leads to an actual sale. I really don't understand why people ask, because Mercari has the option to offer, and most people offer $5-10 less than what I'm selling for, so I typically accept the offer anyway.

The question that gets under my skin the most is when people ask me to hold an item I've just listed for 5-10 days until their next paycheck comes in. I always tell them I'll do it for a down payment, and so far nobody has followed up on that offer!

My TPM Ani preorder shipped from Pulse. First Black Series purchase I've made in a looooooong time.

Other Toy Lines / Re: 2024: What Are You Collecting?

I have really cut back over the last few years too, due to both space and financial reasons. I was laid off last summer and sold a ton of Black Series and Marvel Legends on Mercari to get by. It really does create a snowball effect because now I want to get rid of 90% of what I own and condense everything down to 2 bookshelves or so. I've had a ton of internal dilemmas about Star Wars, mainly which figures to keep, and whether or not to keep alternate costumes (i.e. Yavin Luke and Stormtrooper Luke as opposed to just having Farmboy Luke, Bespin Han vs ANH Han, etc.).

Hasbro Star Wars: I made the mistake of hopping over to 6 inch from 3.75 inch, but I haven't bought anything since 2021, maybe early 2022, and it will likely continue that way. I'm trying to downsize like crazy so I'm planning on getting rid of most background characters and army builders. I also have my entire TVC/3.75 inch collection at my parents' house that I need to go through and sell. I want to get rid of everything outside of a few vehicles, and maybe the main OT crew to put inside the BMF.

Hasbro Marvel Legends: I managed to sell all of my duplicates outside of a few Spider-Man figures, but I'm still interested in any Spider-Man characters, and to a lesser extent, X-Men. Most of my main display X-Men figures are Japanese imports, with ML filling the gaps. Interested in a few of the X-Men '97 figures, and I'll buy anything based on the Raimi movies and 90s Spidey animated series. I'm debating going back and getting Andrew Garfield Spidey and the Final Swing Spidey but for now I'm happy with just Tobey Spidey.

Bandai SH Figuarts: These are my "main display" figures. I have the TPM 25th anniversary Qui Gon and Maul on preorder, and will continue to buy the 1-2 Star Wars offerings they put out each year. Last year I only got the Obi-Wan and Vader based on the Kenobi final duel. Both great figures! I do want to get rid of some stuff that is inferior to the Hasbro figures, such as Count Dooku, but I have almost every figure made from this line and my OCD hates that idea!

MAFEX: I really only buy their Marvel comic book figures, and only go after Spider-Man and X-Men figures. I didn't get to buy the Scarlet Spider that came out in 2023 because of my layoff, but with the Hasbro ML version on preorder, do I really need it now? Time will tell! There are a few cool Star Wars offerings coming, all based on Mandalorian S3, but do I really need to pay $100+ for a slightly better Bo Katan? Another Mandalorian? I think I counted the other day that I have 8 across 3 lines, so unless reviews come out saying those are the best figures ever, I'm skipping them.

Hasbro Indiana Jones: I never got into this line because I went all in on the 2008 line. I did pick up the SHF Indiana Jones, and I'm hoping that the Adventure Series hits Ollie's or Ross because I want to track down a Marion, Short Round, and Henry Sr. for cheap.

McFarlane DC: I own a ton of the DC Collectibles Batman TAS line from 2015-2020, and Todd has been rereleasing some stuff exclusively at Target. I picked up the Scarecrow rerelease a few weeks ago because I missed the original version of that one. There's an Alfred exclusive coming at some point, which is nice because that was originally only available in a Haslab priced Batcave set. After that, I just need to hope Todd rereleases some of the figures I don't have!

That is a good point about the bad bets. Do we know how much Hasbro invested in the plastic-free packaging? Good idea, but of course swappers ruined it.
