Watto's Junk Yard / Use punctuation to relieve stress
« on: January 13, 2005, 12:12 PM »
This was too good to bury in the "stoopid stuff from the internet thread".

I suggest we consider using punctuation to relieve stress around here.

Some already do.

The Prequel Trilogy / Wookie subtitles?
« on: January 8, 2005, 11:23 PM »
I've heard through a friend - of - friend type thing that EPIII has wookie subtitles. I can't say it's true or not true, but if it is; why George, why!?!

I didn't need scrolling text to know what Chewie was saying throughout the OT! >:( Who's next? R2?  :'(

Toy Reviews / Unfiled report: VOTC Luke and Ben
« on: December 23, 2004, 11:45 PM »

I actually like this Luke a lot.

No doubt, this Luke was made to move...

...Giving new meaning to the term "floater". As in, I tried to flush that turd Luke (left) down the toilet, but he just bobbed there like a floater ballerina.

Which of these Luke's would win an "Ultimate Vintage Grudge Match"?

Cloaki-Wan Kenobi

Heat can really build up under those robes. After a hot day on the set, Sir Alec Guinness lets out the "bad air".

Then and now...

VOTC Luke blade (top) and VOTC Ben (bottom)

Despite their differences, the old man and farm boy can enjoy a day field dressing wild R2 units together.

Watto's Junk Yard / Where are you, when you're here?
« on: December 19, 2004, 11:45 PM »
I usually browse JD from my *cough* office *cough*... Although I've got the Powerbook as well and check from the road when I'm travelling or working off-site.

Here are a few snaps of my attic office I took for a website:

So here's the question: Where are you, when you're here? And, what does it look like?

Watto's Junk Yard / The Grey Video
« on: November 17, 2004, 12:04 PM »
This is certainly getting enough press/linkage elsewhere, so I thought I'd share it here.

1968 The Beatles release "The White Album"
2004 Jay-Z releases "The Black Album"
2004 DJ Danger Mouse mixes both - "The Grey Album"

Regardleess of what you think of the artists, it was cool to watch.

Watto's Junk Yard / Forum member featured on News at 6!
« on: November 12, 2004, 10:58 AM »
Randy Goff was featured on KSL local news last night at 6 here in Salt Lake, for something non-Star Wars related and very cool.

Congratulations, Randy! Next time consider borrowing some armor... It'd be neat to see your interview given as a trooper, or Vader... j/k ;)

Here's a link from my ReplayTV:

It's Quicktime, and may take a minute to load...

Original Trilogy Collection / OTC Wuher - What the heck Hasbro?
« on: July 27, 2004, 12:02 AM »
I was looking through photos on JD from San Diego of the new Hasbro porduct and have to ask Hasbro "what gives"?

Why did they do this to poor Wuher?

First, he's on a Millennium Falcon card! And holding a red light saber? For crying out loud!

Do they know something we don't? Have they seen Georges new DVD cut due this fall?

Are they trying to make him look more playable? Good luck, from the looks of this guy. Although, he does look like he may have been working out a little. ;)

He also looks kinda like he might be Falling Down. Quality control, anyone?

Toy Reviews / General Jan the Man
« on: April 27, 2004, 04:56 PM »
Just a quick review of General Jan Dodonna. I picked him up some time ago along with Dutch and Antilles, but it has taken some time to get this old timer online.

I really like that they made Dodonna. It’s nice to have another high ranking rebel around, and my kids like that the Imperials have someone new to capture.

First, he has a somewhat odd arm sculpt, which is great for holding his belly during a good laugh or supporting his head while relaxing and watching clouds on a summer day... Along with all the other officer slackers...

....But bad for aiming at Jawas who panhandle on the streets of Mos Eisley asking for spare medallions. It's a given that figures with molded robes usually cannot sit worth a darn, but they should at least be able to shoot straight. Jan Dodonna is pretty worthless in the department of self defense.

The paint is generally good, not too much and accurate in color. The one exception is his hair. It looks like it was applied by a five year old using a squirming young kitten dipped in paint. Which may not be too far off the mark these days.

General Rieken was quick to point out the bad hair coloring to his buddy Jan. He had to. It was beginning to distract the troops, and moreover morale was taking a hit.

So Antilles offered to  take Jan to see Rystall and Greeta around the corner at their hair shop, hoping they could help his buddy with a better dye job.

Sadly for our man Jan, she was unwilling to accept Rebel medallions as payment. They're just not worth what they used to be with the fall of the Empire and all. The trip wasn't a total waste though, Antilles was able to use a gift certificate for a good scalp massage and some products.

Hair aside, this figure was made to do great things. This figure was made to give out medals. And lay on his back watching clouds. And if Hasbro ever makes one, look nervously at a war table or screen on Yavin IV.

Many have speculated that since he comes with three count 'em three, all together now... three medals that Lucas may be giving Chewie a medal in the further adapted "special edition and beyond" dvd release. Here's a smuggled out screen capture of the edited scene:

Purists on the other hand should not be alarmed. By hiding the "extra" medal, it is still possible to reenact the scene as originally presented (see below).

*Other lazy figures, Antilles, John Kerry, dancers and awards people (well, basically any figure that is not Jan Dodonna) are sold separately from the figure being reviewed.
