Other Toy Lines / Re: 2006: What Are You Collecting?
« on: January 4, 2006, 07:41 PM »
I'm hoping to actually get back into collecting in 2006, hopefully sooner than later.  My wife is now out of school and we should have a few extra bucks around tax refund time, so with any luck I'll be able to pick up a piece here and there.

My plan is to get back to the basics, the way things were when I started in 1996.  I pretty much just have an interest in vintage stuff anymore, and my vintage collection had gone through countless changes over the past couple of years before having to sell everything.  I'd like to get back to buying what I thought was cool and at a good price, without worrying about whether it will fall into some focus or other self-imposed limitation.  I plan on picking up some SW, Clash of the Titans, Battlestar, and Black Hole.  Maybe even some G. I. Joe and MOTU if I feel the urge.

As far as new stuff goes, I have pretty much given up on anything that is made for collectors, so I don't think I'll be buying much of anything that was released after 1990.  :)  The only exceptions that I can think of for the moment would be the Clash of the Titans stuff from Gentle Giant, and maybe one of the Palisades Alien busts (the original version from a couple of years ago).

Looking at those pictures, though, gives me the sudden urge to go buy CotT and watch it.  I haven't seen that film in a few years.

   E...

Once I went to my wife and told her about these (quite giddily, I might add), she immediately put COTT in her NetFlix queue.  What a sweetie.  :)

Not sure what the scale on these will be, nor the price point.  I'm hoping they'll be in the 8-ish inch range.  Not overly big with a hefty price tag, but big enough to capture the detail.

Other Toy Lines / Re: Sesame Street Figures
« on: January 4, 2006, 07:34 PM »
Word on the Palisades boards is that Retail is balking at the line.  Too kiddy for collectors and too adult for kiddies ::)

That's the problem I've seen with the line all along.  I grew up watching Sesame Street, but I'm not about to shell out $10-15 for an Ernie figure.  My kids watch Sesame Street, but I'm not about to shell out that money for an action figure that quite frankly is made for adults and will probably break with minimal playing.

I think this whole thing is kind of reflective of the toy industry in general.  There's too much that's geared towards adults, much of which is somewhat esoteric to begin with.

I have the coin from the ROTS DVD sold at Target that I have no use for.  First person that wants it for the bargain price of $0.00 gets it (I think that converts to 0.00 GBP and $0.00 CDN).  :)  Please PM me - first come first served.

I'm going to go out, get blitzed, and have sex with as many people that will have me.

*sigh*

Actually, I'll probably just stay home with my wife, watch a movie, play some Gamecube, and fall asleep at 12:02...same as every year.  I've never really enjoyed the big NYE celebrations.

The Prequel Trilogy / Re: Scenes that made you shudder
« on: December 26, 2005, 02:11 AM »
I have to admit the delivering of the twins gets me every time. I think it is lees the recreation of the classic scene of staring up at the twin suns than John Williams powerful score.

OTOH, it might just be the realization that this is finally the end of the line.

I actually disliked the recreation of that scene.  It seemed horribly forced to me.

Watto's Junk Yard / Can anyone translate this?

I noticed a lot of hits to my website (www.8thpassenger.com) were coming from it, so I thought I'd check and see what it was.  The ribcage-looking thing at the top of the page is part of the Polish poster for the movie Alien, and part way down the page there's a little blurb with a link to my site.  I gotta be honest...I have no freakin' idea what language this is, so I can't even babelfish it.  I've never even seen the com.il domain before.

Any help?

Oh...my...freakin'...god.

Maybe this is old news to many (it's from SDCC), but I happened to stumble across this tonight looking at the GG Harry Potter busts.  I am absolutely stoked about these, probably more than any "made for collectors" item that has ever been released except maybe the first Palisades Alien bust.  These things look incredible!  Calibos, Medusa, the Kraken...what else would a COTT fan ask for?  Anyone else going to pick these up?  Any idea what the price point is supposed to be?

JohnH, I guess I am more amazed that given the vast amount of posts on video games that you were faithful and never peaked on the net to see what happened when you did beat that level!

It's funny, because I *almost* did that.  :)  I had played a few times yesterday, and thought to myself "Screw it, I'm just going to Google it and see what level 6 looks like."  I got through it the next game I played.

Watto's Junk Yard / The biggest disappointment in video game history
« on: December 17, 2005, 01:09 PM »
'Tis a sad day for me.  Since it came out in the early 80's, Time Pilot has been one of my favorite video games.  For whatever reason, I could never, ever, ever get past stage 5 - the year 2010.  So I'm playing it on my computer today, kicking some ass, and can you believe it...I make it past 2010!  Years of trying and anticipation, endless quarters stuffed into the machine at the old grocery store at 23rd & Iowa St, and I finally do it.  So after that big UFO explodes and you engage into a time warp again, where does it take you?  Right back to 19-*******-10, the first stage in the game.   :'(  I felt such disappointment, such sadness...I felt like years of effort had all been in vain.  I think I can actually hear the video game gods laughing at me.  Taunting me.

Feeling aggrieved,

Guys, stop picking on the guy.  Can't you see he just needs some affection?

He was so happy!  I think if we all just gave him a big hug he'd be nice to all of us.   :-*

If this place suddenly became the juggernaut that Rebelscum is, you guys would need 4 or 5 more full time moderators just to keep the newbies contained.  I think Rebelscum needs at least that many more

Hey, I'll put in my application.
