Yeah, my friends and I were just discussing this a few days ago...that is a great idea.  They should either release greatest hits discs or include the vintage games along with the newer versions.  I think they'd find a lot of buyers if they'd include the old Marios, Zelda, Tecmo Super Bowl, Kid Icarus, Castlevania, Mega Man, Turtles, Double Dribble, etc.  Nice idea Scott. :)

The Original Trilogy / Re: News regarding EP 7,8,9 rumor (TV Series?)

I kind of agree with those who would rather see an animated series.  I think it would be pretty great to have Star Wars in some form after the final movie, and I'm one of those who greatly enjoyed the Clone Wars shorts.  I think you could explore a lot of different areas, and I really think they would be popular if they included OT themes, characters, etc.  When it comes down to it, those are the people and areas that most people (and casual fans) associate with the most.  Everyone knows Luke, Han, Leia, Chewie, Vader, 3PO, R2, Yoda, and Lando.  I'm not quite sure how live action would work out either, I guess you never know, I guess I'd just as soon see animated.  I'm one of those too who doesn't really want to see the "name" of Star Wars drug down by being "too much"....like what happened in some instances with Star Trek.

I just saw that GH has news/pics of a possible prototype Ewok with glider.  Could it be coming this year?  You can check it out here:

Saga '02-'04 / Re: How's Star Wars Selling in Your Area?

Yeah, Wal-Marts seem to be the worst around here too.  The one closest to us has had the Obi-Wan club wave here and there, but that is it so far.  The other one closest has had solid pegs of Padme pilots for a looooong time.  With the exception of a couple of figures from Wal-Mart, I've had all of my finds at Target and occasionally TRU.  Glad to hear people are finding the Hoth and/or Tatooine waves in their areas...that hasn't hit too much in NE Nebraska/NW Iowa yet from what I have seen (although I did find a lone R3PO.)

How are the Star Wars toys selling through in your area?  After taking a look my last few shopping trips, it really seems like Star Wars stuff is selling great around here.  Although I am disappointed to find empty pegs a lot (still looking for Hoth Luke, Wampa, Tatooine Wave, etc.), it is so much better than seeing 2002-2003 stuff hanging on the pegs forever.  At least around here, even the Clone Wars stuff is sold out for the most part.  The only things I saw last week were the Clone Wars animated figures at Target, the regular fig pegs were completely bare.  They also had 2 Screen Scenes left.  The TRU had the Concept Stormie wave (finally got one), and the new Jedi Warriors pack, but the rest of the basic figure stuff was gone pretty much too.  It is kind of heartening to see Star Wars selling well, unless it is just me seeing things.  Although it is hard for me to find stuff, since I'm in a small town and have to drive 40 minutes to go to these stores, I have still had better luck the past two months than I did the entire year before that.  And like I said, its better than seeing old pegwarmers.

Other Collectibles / Re: Playskool Line: Do You Collect...Opinions?
« on: January 20, 2004, 02:11 PM »
If the Playskool line does end up making a comeback, which characters/ships/etc. would you like to see done in this form?  It might be a good guess that there would be character two packs, judging from the past survey Hasbro sent out, and the 3PO/Leia combo in this auction.  Anyways, for those of you who collect these, what would you like to see?  A few I wouldn't mind seeing (keep in mind, I only collect OT sets...so that is why my list is the way it is):

Yoda
Leia (the one in the auction, possibly other versions?)
Obi Wan Kenobi
Lando (Bespin first, then maybe other versions)
Snowtrooper
Han (Bespin/Endor outfits)
Luke (Bespin/Jedi outfits)
Royal Guard
Emperor
Jabba the Hutt (with dais)
Tusken Raider/Jawa 2-pack

Tie Fighter w/Pilot
AT-AT (wishful thinking probably) or AT-ST
Landspeeder

Just a few thoughts, I figure we won't get a whole heck of a lot in background characters in this line (but I guess you never know), so I stuck to somewhat main ones.  I'd be pretty psyched if this line came back, and some of these were included.

Yeah, I'll admit too that the packaging wasn't too bad at all.....its the actual figures that made it unappealing :P.

I just had to bring this topic back up to the top after this past weekend.  I sat around for an hour talking with my brother in law (and future brother in law) about how great the original NES was.  That system was just so much fun, and between those conversations and what we have been talking about here, it really makes me want to go and see if I can pick up some old games on ebay or something.   I still have many of my old ones, but wouldn't mind getting some other greats that you mentioned (my friends had, but I didn't)...Castlevania, Mega Man, Kid Icarus, Metroid, Zelda, etc.  Any other games you would recommend for this system?  Personally, don't make fun of me, I don't think I have ever played the Legend of Zelda for more than 5 minutes total in my life, and don't remember it well......but it seems to be pretty well liked, so I thought about picking it up.  Plus, cheaper to pick up games for the old NES than my Gamecube most of the time :P.  Although....on the "new" Nintendo side of things, I got NBA Live 2004 and Rebel Strike for Christmas, so they are both getting all of my gaming time right now...both good games I think.

**Also, quick question, I remember the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle games being fun, I was wondering which you guys thought was the best of them though?**

Watto's Junk Yard / Re: Your favorite quick snack..whatcha like?
« on: January 20, 2004, 11:00 AM »
Well, if we're eliminating "quick grab" stuff like crackers, fruit, etc.  I guess I'd have to go with a peanut butter sandwich with a tall glass of milk, or a bowl of cereal.  My wife and I also like to have a plate of tostada chips with cheddar cheese sprinkled over them, then melted in the microwave...but that's usually a meal for us I guess.

I actually came across several of these sets this past weekend at TRU.  I am not interested at all, so I passed.  I have a feeling these sets might be clogging for awhile, but I guess you never know.

The Original Trilogy / Star Wars - Roger Ebert's Greatest Movies
« on: January 19, 2004, 01:16 PM »
I'm not usually much for reviewers (although I do read them), but it seems like they never like the movies I like (Star Wars movies in specific)....but I ran across this review (keep in mind, from 1997 when the Special Editions were released), and I thought it was a good write up by well-known reviewer Roger Ebert.  Even though it is a bit dated, it is kind of a fun read, and touches on the "magic" of Star Wars which I think is why so many of us are dedicated fans.  Just thought some of you might be interested to see it:

Star Wars - Roger Ebert

Also, you can check out some of his other "greatest movies" if you are so inclined. :)

I've seen some pics of those TOMY mini dioramas before, and they are kind of neat.  I thought about collecting them as well, but put it off because (once again) lack of money and space.  For now, I have been kind of limited in my "other collectibles" simply because I spend time, space, and money on the 3 3/4" line...but I hope to get into it more in the future.  For now, I'm pretty limited to:

Movie Posters (my wife has gotten me the OT posters, framed, and I have an Episode II one in the closet waiting to be framed).

Applause Mug/Hamilton Plate - Only have one of each of these, found at a garage sale.  R2-D2 mug, and a Millennium Falcon plate.  I'm happy with them though.

Playskool - I have all of the OT sets, and I hope they release more.  I would probably buy any OT figures, vehicles, sets they would release.

Unleashed - Pretty much OT only on this as well, although I do have Jango and Yoda.  Others so far are Jedi Luke, Han, Boba, as well as Chewie and Hoth Luke on preorder.

Misc - Yoda pez dispenser, Ask Yoda, Darth Vader Palm Talker, Vader/Jango/Stormtrooper candy head things, Frito Lay puzzle piece things from Episode II, Star Wars Trivial Pursuit, Clonetrooper/Obi-Wan life size standees, Micro Machines Dagobah, Taco Bell Yoda, Episode I C-3PO Pepsi Cup, OT pencil art poster.  All I can think of right now.

I've only found the R-3PO and Riekaan figures thus far from the "Hoth" theme (really hoping to find Luke and the Wampa soon), but I saw this picture this morning of the wave standing together....and I was on the fence before about the Hoth Trooper, but I think this clinches it for me not getting it....he really is short, isn't he?  (Pic courtesy of http://starwars.carrotnetwork.com)

Personally, I wouldn't mind if this line came back.....as long as it wasn't so much that it would be overwhelming, which I don't think would be the case.  I too have only bought the OT sets, and that's all I would continue to buy...but I think this was/is a really great line.  For some reason when I opened them up they reminded me of how it was when I was a kid.  Until I had room to display them, I could fit all the figs in the back of the Falcon...which is what I did with my vintage figures back in the day as well :).  I wouldn't mind seeing a small comeback of this line too, especially to add a Leia (or maybe Yoda/Boba Fett/Lando) to the collection.
