i was cleaning up some stuff today, and found two items that i would say are the most unusal in my collection.

a friend of mine used to work at a television station a few years ago, and grabbed two electronic press kits from her station that they used on the air. these are pretty much the tapes that they use when you are watching the news and they cut to a story. so she grabbed these two tapes for me. cool, right? well, yeah, cool... but guess what? these tapes are about 1-1/2 times the size of regular vcr tapes, height and width. so i've never watched them. they could be blank for all i know. but i guess they are cool to have, and not too many people have things like this, right?

so what's the most unusual item in your collection? doesn't have to be toy related (as you can see from my story).

Star Wars Action Figures / animated jedi master yoda
« on: March 3, 2004, 12:42 AM »
i don't have much time for customizing anymore, and it usually takes something to spark my creativity to get me to really sit down and do anything new. today, i found an extra amimated yoda at target, and i picked him up. as soon as i looked at the back of the card and saw the drawing of yoda, i knew what needed to be done. 4 hours later, i have this:

not the best job, i think i could have done a little better. things started not working out the way they were planned to (as usual). i ended up sculpting the entire hood and both arms from scratch. and it was getting late, i was getting frustrated, i didn't even bother to smooth out the clay on the sleeves or the hood  :-\ - i had hoped to add on to the existing hood and use the existing arms, but no dice.

oh well, maybe if i find another one i'll give it another shot. let me know what you think.

i finally started cleaning out my back room... the one that was supposed to be my collection room when i moved into my new apartment 14 months ago, but ended up being the place where stuff that i had no room for ended up. i finally decided that with a few - very, very few - exceptions, i'm going to keep only my star wars stuff and sell everything else. at least, that's the plan going in.

anyway, i was going through some boxes of the star wars figures that i plan on keeping, and got to thinking about cataloging my collection. then i remembered that i had started doing that on some other website, where they keep an online database of what's available, and they update pricing, and yadda yadda yadda. now, i know that i haven't kept up with that in a few years, so it's painfully out of date. but out of curiosity, i looked it up for the first time in a long time today, and it has my collection - or at least the small part of it that i entered into the database a few years back - valued at somewhere around $14,000.

taking into consideration that this database is only for figures, and i haven't updated it in a long time, and that i also collect tons of other star wars related crap stuff, i'm going to estimate that my entire collection is worth somewhere in the neighborhood of $40,000.

now, i didn't start this thread to brag about my collection, because that's probably not alot compared with some other collectors, both here and elsewhere, but it's a pretty good chunk of change to me.

so my question is this: what do you think your collection is worth?

and, perhaps more importantly, do you have collectors insurance? when i was married, we had insurance on our house (of course), but we were told that the insurance didn't cover collectibles. we needed to have a special policy for that. now, i have my own apartment, and i'm looking into getting renter's insurance, just to cover the basics of my apartment - stereo equipment, computer, book, dvd and cd collection, etc. etc - but i'm wondering if regular renter insurance will also cover these collectibles. anybody have any information?

Saga '02-'04 / 2003 figs on 2004 cards
« on: January 24, 2004, 02:45 PM »
does anyone know where i could find a list of the carded re-releases from 2003 on the 2004 cards? i checked in our own checklists, but that info isn't there (or i'm just too dumb to find it). being the completeist that i am, of course i need to get my hands on every single one of these, and i want to make sure i'm not missing out on any... i'm not including the hall of fame figures in this, because i got a list of those already...

so far i have:
anakin secret ceremony
boba fett pit of carkoon
ashla & jempa
yoda & chian
aayla secura
barriss offee
han hoth (w/ brown coat - did they release a blue coat on this card?)

any others?

another question: why did they re-use the numbers from the 2003 series and keep these figures as part of the '03 collection? i would think that if they are going to change the cards they should have changed the numbers, no?

Watto's Junk Yard / probot?
« on: January 16, 2004, 10:17 PM »
anybody out there interested in this album coming out from ex-nirvana/current foo fighters/queens of the stone age/any other band who needs a drummer dave grohl?

probot

being a huge fan of the old school metal, and pretty much a fan of just about everybody he has in that lineup, i couldn't wait for this. i got my hands on a copy today, and i think i was expecting a bit too much... it's actually really good, but it's kinda weird because every song sounds just like a song from the band of the singer that sings on that particular track (anybody make any sense out of that long ass run on sentence?). but it definitely rocks...

Watto's Junk Yard / caption this (aka fun with clones)
« on: January 9, 2004, 10:40 PM »
ok, so today i was playing with some of my super articulated clone troopers - man i love these guys - and took this picture.

can you come up with a good caption? here's what i came up with so far:

(boss clone - pointing) hey you - back to work.
(slacker clone - sitting) screw you, i'm on a break... we're union, you know.

Other Collectibles / JD Feature: Busted by Gentle Giant
« on: January 5, 2004, 09:47 PM »
in case any of you don't read the front page (but you all do... right? RIGHT?? hehe) i started an examination of the gentle giant clone busts. what's out, what's coming, what's gone, and how much it's gonna cost you to catch up if you haven't been playing since the beginning  ;)

part 1: mace windu and obi-wan kenobi
part 2: padme amidala and anakin skywalker
part 3: zam wessel and jango fett
part 4: count dooku and yoda
part 5: darth vader and boba fett
part 6: clone trooper (white) and clone commander (yellow)
part 7: clone captain (red) and grand moff tarkin
part 8: darth vader (chrome) and clone lieutenant (blue) (part one of the "dreaded exclusives" special)
part 9: clone trooper pilot and clone sergeant (part two of the "dreaded exclusives" special)
part 10: greedo and biker scout, as well as the wrap up and the rumor list for 2004

since gentle giant looks like they are going to continue releasing these busts, i figure i can just update it as their site gets more info. and, i'm going to try and track the pricing on these busts monthly, and update the individual pages with the latest pricing info.

Watto's Junk Yard / New Year's resolutions?
« on: January 1, 2004, 01:38 PM »
so, with the new year just here, what are your new years resolutions? i've never been a big fan of this sort of thing, and i've never really made any resolutions before, because i always figured "if you really want to change something about your life, why wait 'till the first of the new year? start today."

and, even though i still do feel that way, i've decided to come up with a small list of resolutions... just a few things about my life that i'd like to change...

[1] be more financially responsible - who doesn't? but i seriously need to keep better track of where my money goes. it seems like i get paid on saturday, and within a few days i'm broke again, with no idea what happened to all my cash. so, i need to start keeping some sort of financial records, and see if i can figure out where i waste all of my cash. of course, with the new "tracking thread" for the star wars collectibles, looks like this one might just go right out the window  ;)

[2] find a better job - again, who doesn't want to find a better job? i think that out of all the people i know, 95% of them hate their jobs. but me? i spent (or, actually, am still spending, since i haven't paid off my student loan yet) over $13,000 to go to school to be a java programmer. and i graduated at the top of my class, 4.0 average. and what do i do for a living? i work in a record store. a record store. what the ****? sure, from time to time i browse a few job sites on the web or look at the classifieds in the paper, but i really haven't put any effort into finding a real job. hopefully, that will all change for me, sometime soon - real soon.

[3] go back to school (again) - well, this one is still up in the air. since i did such a great job with this already (see #2 above), maybe i can go back to school again - at night - for something different, and hopefully pick a field that i can actually get a job in. and, hopefully, the financail aid people would work with my existing loan to help me out with my payments...

[4] eat better/exercise/lose weight - uhmmmm, yeah right!

[5] better manage my time - this kinda goes along with #1 - my free time kinda disappears almost as fast as my money, and i don't know what the hell i do with it all. i always have a list of "to-do" things, and none of them ever get done. why? where do i spend the 4 - 6 hours of free time i have every night after i get home from work, before i go back to sleep? what the hell am i wasting my time on?

[6] post more news on the jedidefender.com homepage - i've been slacking lately, as i've been under the weather for almost three weeks now (but i'm getting better, honest) and working like a dog during the christmas season, but now that the hectic holidays are over, i'm going to make it a point to post at least one new item on the front page at jedidefender.com every single day, even if it's just an interesting auction i find at ebay. so if anyone out there has any news, or interesting stuff, whatever - feel free to email it to me all year long, and i'll try my best to post it up there.

well, out of these six resolutions, i'm actually pretty confident that i can do #1, #2, #5, #6, and maybe #3 - but i think that #4 is just a lost cause. and yeah, the first five are "real life" resolutions and the last one's kinda silly, but i guess that only time will tell...

to everyone out there - sincere wishes for a safe and healthy, happy new year! and let us know what kind of reolutions you have for the coming year!!

Watto's Junk Yard / a christmas fable
« on: December 6, 2003, 11:57 PM »
A CHRISTMAS FABLE

Not long ago and far away, Santa was getting ready for his annual trip, but
there were problems everywhere...four of his elves got sick and the trainee elves did not produce the toys as fast as the regular ones so Santa was beginning to feel the pressure of being behind schedule.  Then Mrs. Claus told Santa her mom was coming to visit, this stressed Santa even more.

When he went to harness the reindeer, he found that three of them were about to give birth and two had jumped the fence and were out Heaven knows where... more stress!  Then when he began to load the sleigh, one of the boards cracked and the toy bag fell to the ground and scattered the toys.  Totally frustrated, Santa went to the house for a cup of coffee with a shot of whiskey.  When he opened the cupboard, he discovered the elves had hit the liquor and there was nothing left to drink!  In his frustration, he dropped the coffee pot and it broke into hundreds of little pieces all over the kitchen floor. He went to get the broom and found that mice had eaten the straw it was made from.  Just then, the doorbell rang.  Santa opened the door and there stood a little angel with a great big Christmas tree.  The angel asked, "Where would you like to put this tree fat man"?

...and that my friends is how the little angel came to be on top of the Christmas tree!

« on: November 27, 2003, 09:36 PM »
did you ever have like 12 things you have/want to do, all at the same time, and just didn't know what to do first? that's pretty much where i am right now. chances are good that none of the things i have/want to do will get done, i'll probably just veg out and watch tv all night instead...  ::)

Collections / my unleashed collection
« on: November 24, 2003, 09:52 PM »
with the help of some great traders and sellers right here in this forum (you guys know who you are  ;) ), i've been able to actually finish up my unleashed collection, at least as far as it's gone up to now.

anybody else notice how much bigger boba fett is over every other unleashed figure? i mean, his entire figure, compared to any other unleashed, is just huge. his head, his arms... way bigger than the rest, almost to the point where he looks a little out of scale to me.

the only thing that sucks is that i have them in two seperate areas, and i hate splitting up collections of stuff that should go together  >:( >:(

but i'm working on making some room so that they can all be displayed together soon, hopefully  ;D
