I don't drink coffee which has caused some odd looks, especially when I worked at Lowe's and coffee and cigarettes were a given on break.

I like my hot chocolate in the winter though.

I'm a little sick of the post counts as well. Some members who have only been there for 6 months now have Moff status (not like it matters) because they post pad so much...a certain post padding "Commander_____" comes to mind (he tried to secretly get me banned for no reason while being nice to my face before so screw him).

I could not agree with you more.  I don't give a crap about what my post count is and most of the upstanding members (of any board, this isn't just an RS problem) don't care either.

It's the people that pad their count in an attempt to gain legitimacy rather than gain it through posting relevant and intelligent information.

Mattkatandicanthitthepostbuttonfastenough is a prime example.  I've seen where he tried to use his post count as a reason why his incorrect answer to a question should be accepted as fact.  When proved wrong he dismissed it and argued that he was a "respected" member and then proceeded on to the second method of trying to become relevant; name dropping.

There's a new guy over there now following the same methodology: high post count = knowledge.  Yet, by the questions he asks and the answers he gives it's obvious he doesn't know what he's talking about.

There is a God :o

Actually, I've been providing such exhibits that God exists on my blog for a while now:

http://darby-harn.blogspot.com

I think I'm up to Exhibit V now.   :)

I think you skipped "U"   ;D

I used to do a feature on my site called "Hot Broads You've Never Heard Of" where I'd spy a good looking girl in some commercial or as a bit-player on a TV show and track down pictures and any bio info I could find.  I haven't done one in a while.  Two that stand out as being fun were Sienna Miller and Mandy Amano.

Amano was in the "Rich Girl" Pepsi commercial but I never was able to track her down till Maxim did it for me.

You'd think so, but that Durge ****** wrecked their forums so badly, that if even Jesus Christ himself came back to Earth and started posting there tomorrow, he still couldn't save it from the way Durge left it.

Durge was the personification of everything wrong with the world today.  He was the first character I've ever met (online or otherwise) that I'd burn down in the street just because.

However, I thought that when he finally got the boot from RS that the trolling would end.  But the likes of Mattkatandidontknowhowtokeepthespiceinmymarriagenowthati'mtrollingrebelscumtwentyfourhoursaday, Greenday and a few others have stepped right up.

And, by-the-way, does anyone know who this "david_kay" character is?  Because he's had his nose up the asses of the mods for a while now...but Tuesday was a crappy day (outside of the forums) and he stepped on my last nerve.  That's when I started noticing just how annoying he is.

Other Toy Lines / Re: 2006: What Are You Collecting?
« on: January 12, 2006, 01:30 AM »
This year I plan on cutting back on Hasbro.  I probably won't be buying vehicles, deluxe or Battle Pack sets or pretty much anything that's not a 3.75" figure.  I'm sticking to 1 of each new figure or a re-pack/kit-bashed figure if it has been significantly updated in some way (paint, head, arms, etc).  All loose.  My carded days are over.  Along the way I'd also like to get a set of the 12 holos.

The exceptions to the rules are the AT-AT Driver and any Republic Gunship items Hasbro sees fit to produce.  I'd like a carded AT-AT Driver with each holo available because they fall under "carded variations" and the AT-AT Driver is my focus character.  Plus I want a couple loose because it looks to be an amazing figure.

Hopefully this path will free up some cash for the year.  I'll probably buy the odd Titanium but no more Galactic Heroes and I'll be a little more picky on the exclusives.  I plan on buying a few of the SS 12" figures and probably a GG bust or two.  There are two .45 scale MR lightsabers I want and, depending on how they look, a couple of the new blasters they're talking about.  I don't see any more Code 3 items in the future either.

There are a couple holes in my collection that I'd like to plug including trading cards, WOTC Minis and a handful of miscellaneous other items.  Oh, and in 2006 I'm going to finally buy that friggin' Blue Snaggletooth figure I've been needing to complete my vintage collection.

I've debated replacing SW with something else but I don't know.  My other collecting habit over the past few years has been 12" GI Joe figures, but with them done at retail for now I don't see much money being spent in that area.  Maybe I'll use some free time to customize some figures out of parts I already have...or start rescuing vintage figures from eBay and refurbishing them.  I've picked up a few of the new Sigma 6 figures and there are at least 3 more I want to get; Cobra Commander (who just showed up at retail), Storm Shadow and Scarlet when she comes out.

Anyway, like I said, I'm hoping to free up a lot of cash this year.  Pay off some bills and work towards my goal of buying a house.

I'm going to bump this up to ask if anyone has been buying the Viking sets?  I hadn't heard anything about them till I stumbled across a huge display in a TRU in Dickson City, PA back in November.

They just showed up in the newest Shop@Home catalog and I was looking them over and they seem to be nice sets.  Anyone build any?

Also I saw some new $4 sets at Target last night, the Lego X-Pod.  They're pretty cool little sets and affordable.

How's Aruba this time of year?

Depends on if you're a drunken blonde whore.

Nevermind.

DOH!

Suddenly the overall usage of USENET drops by 98% and 3 out of 5 forums close shop.

I think it's hilarious that the US wold pass a law with this section in it.  Seriously, who is going to ever enforce this?  And how is it going to be enforced outside the US?  It's just another example of how government has NO comprehension of technology.

As far as you being dissapointed in me, sorry to hear that. I truly am. But it takes time to open up, and with me getting slammed left and right for such things as punctuation, you should be able to see why I am hesistant to open up.

But I guess the damage is beyond repair.

I find it odd that you've been a member here for 2 years, you've been on RS.com for, what, 5?  And nobody seems to know your name.  "Bertha" keeps getting thrown around but unless I missed something, you never confirmed that was your real name.  If you can't even let someone know what your real name is you're intentionally keeping yourself on the "outside" of the community...and outsiders are easier targets.

I probably don't know the real names of half the people on here, or RS.com, but it's not because I never looked, it's because I don't care.   ;)  But I never hide my name, it's always been in my signature or next to my avatar.  I just use "efranks" for all my userids because it keeps it easier to remember at login time.

I've made my fair share of bad grammar and punctuation posts and I always end them with "E..." which is my style.  Is it redundant to post a name or whatever?  Maybe, but signing a post is much different than purposely mangling said post.  Maybe me signing is annoying but I haven't heard from anyone on it...and I probably wouldn't care if it was annoying anyway.  I'm kind of a sarcastic *******, in case you haven't noticed, but I still at least try to fit into the community where I'm being an *******.  I don't try to hide behind screen names and smokescreens.

Anyway, my point, I think some of the crap is brought about by your own actions and your continued effort to stay outside the community.

Heh, edit for spelling and grammar...

I would be.  If it got me an invite to Rancho Obi-Wan I'd be even more proud...it shows that work you're putting into the hobby is appreciated and respected.

All I get is a "Your site sucks" and "Write more headlines!!"   ;)

   E...

You also get the occasional "That's great!" when you actually submit something.   ;)

Yeah....but all that writing and creativity?  Blah.

As many complaints as I have about the forums on RS, they do add good things to the hobby with checklists, photos, special features, etc.   Whether you agree with how the forums are run, you have to agree that the guys do some good work over there.

There are other sites that have similar content but RS is pretty comprehensive.  Hate the forums, disagree with some of their policies, but you can't deny the fact that they do add positive things to the hobby.

So maybe they're proud of the site they work for.  Wouldn't you be proud of something that you put endless hours into?

When "people who ordered this item also ordered these..." goes bad.

It would be interesting to know what the logic looked like that was in the code that generated those matches.  You could potentially have all sorts of things like that happen on any number of e-tailer sites.

In our P.C. society it could cause a major brain meltdown that would cripple us as a nation.

Or, it could just be funny.

 :o

Does anyone know the story? I've known Rayne for a couple years, and needless to say, I highly doubt his suspension was called for. He's been a great asset to the forums there and is a great guy.

Rayne is known for swearing a lot and in the Rochester, NY threads has a tendency to slip the word filters and get things in.  Apparently Myatt caught it and suspended him for it.  Curto, who usually mods that board, usually just cuts out stuff like that when he sees it but he didn't get to that one first this time.

Rayne also has a history of calling a spade a spade, and he doesn't have a problem telling people they're stupid when, in fact, they are being stupid.  So, I wouldn't be surprised if someone flagged him in.

Either way, this was posted today: Rayne re-instated.

You know, I kind of disagree with you on OfficialPix.  That's actually a business and they provide a service, getting guests to shows, private signings, etc.  That I can respect, but trying to profit from a "fan" site?  That I don't like.  I even was pissed when Starwars.com started charging for access with their Hyperspace initiative.

I realize that technically a site like RS and a company like OP are the same, providing a service, but in my mind one's a legitimate business (OP) and the other isn't.  I think of RS (and all the other sites like JD and GH) as news sites and fan sites...things I think of as being free.  Putting up some ad banners to get click-throughs is one thing, you're helping support good dealers that further the hobby of your readers and it allows the site to keep running.  This new, obnoxious crapware they've got?  That's going over the top.

Sending out emails was the first step, guess we should have seen this one coming.
