Other Collectibles / "Call Upon" Yoda
« on: May 6, 2005, 03:52 PM »
Has anyone picked up this larger, possibly better, "talking" Yoda from the ROTS line?  I have seen a few while out perusing the action figure aisles, but I've never really taken a closer look at it.  From what I understand, he really says quite a lot...and even summarizes the Saga to some extent (spoilers present at this point) :).  I picked up the "Ask Yoda" version that came out during AOTC (and was repackaged for the OTC as well), but from what I've seen this new version is bigger...and possibly better.  Not sure if it is something I "need", particularly with the $30 pricetag, but I was wondering if any of you have picked it up...and if so, what you think of it?

Just thinking about the prequel trilogy overall here with the final chapter coming up in a few weeks, and I got to thinking about this.  Although TPM is somewhat universally disliked, or at least for the most part, it seems that the one thing people pick out of that movie is "the lightsaber battle is the best ever"...mainly relating to Darth Maul.  I agree with that, that battle was unbelievable, and to me...the best part of TPM.  I've watched just that portion of the DVD a number of times, while skipping through the rest.  While the other problems of TPM can take up a thread of their own, would anyone have liked to see Maul survive into AOTC or even into ROTS?  I've seen some people complain that he was offed too quickly, and he really isn't in the overall movie all that much.  Do you think that he could have assumed the "Dooku" role in AOTC, and maybe even ROTS?  Not saying I don't like Dooku, or that I would like to see more Maul necessarily, but just something I was thinking about.  I know seeing Anakin vs. Maul would have been kind of cool ;).

Other Collectibles / How are Hasbro's "Other" Lines Doing?
« on: April 21, 2005, 10:58 AM »
It seems that with the OT push last year, and now the big ROTS push this year, we've been seeing a lot of product lines emerging from Hasbro.  Obviously, the basic figure line is their bread and butter, and most widely known, but they continue to try to break into other arenas as well.  I was curious how some of you think the "other" lines are doing....do you like them...will they survive and continue on?  Here's the ones I can think of off the top of my head, and have seen at retail recently:

Unleashed - I really enjoy this line, despite the space it takes up ;).  It seems to have its own collector base at this point too, and overall does pretty well I think.  It is unreal to see what some of the older pieces go for on ebay right now.  Apparently it is picking up steam.

Jedi Force - The initial waves seemed to do pretty well, but are sitting fairly heavily now.  I personally have a few (Chewie, Droids, Vader), but I don't know if I'll buy any others.  Our nephews (ages 3 and 5) seem to really like them.  Curious to see how they do, and they seem like basically the same thing as.....

Force Battlers - Basically same scale as Jedi Force, but a little bit different style.  They seem to have a pretty good push behind them, because they are warming the pegs nicely at both Wal-Mart and Target in our area.  I have seen lots of the Vaders sell, and he might even be a tougher find in some stores, but the others seem to go untouched.  I personally don't have any, although I have considered buying the Vader one.  $10-ish seems high though.  I will likely get the upcoming Chewbacca if/when I see it though.

Galactic Heroes - With the exception of the 1st Wave of ROTS ones, which are WAAAY overstocked at Wal-Mart and TRU...these rarely sit around here.  I personally have collected all of the new ones (not repacks), and really like this line overall.  Like I said, with the exception of the ROTS ones sitting now...these usually fly off the shelves around here, and seem to do reasonably well.

Attacktix - When I first saw this line, I thought "meh".  It does seem to be gaining a little steam with people though, and I have seen a couple of kids buying these at retail on occasion (usually the AT-RT one).  I personally don't have any, but I see some of you here seem to be enjoying them.  Although not entirely the same, they do seem similar to the....

Star Wars Miniatures - Not technically a Hasbro product, or is it?  Either way, they seem to be competing with the Attacktix, although I don't think the games are at all similar.  I really know very little about either line though, so I can't talk.  I don't have any, other than promo freebies, but they don't interest me much personally.  I know once in awhile when I stop in the local comic shop to pic up a book or two, there are a definite group of people that are buying these up like crazy there, or at least it seems like it.

Titanium Series - I've started to see a TON of these at Wal-Mart as well.  I haven't picked any of these up either, but the packaging looks kind of spiffy.  I don't really know much about this line either, but I'd consider getting a Falcon possibly.

Micro Series - Target Exclusive, thus far, from what I know.  From the pics recently put up on GH, it looks as if there are some spiffy playset/vehicle combos coming up...which remind me of the vintage micro collection stuff.  I never had any of that when I was a kid, but had a friend who did, and thought they were pretty cool.  At least they have mini figures that come with the ships/sets.

There's probably a couple other lines I'm leaving out, so feel free to add any others.  It just seems like Star Wars might be getting spread sort of thin right now, with so many product lines.  Many of them seem to be competing with each other, but maybe that is just my opinion.  I guess at least there is "something for everyone" in a year like this.  Which of these lines do you think will hang on, or is doing well/bad in your area?

Other Collectibles / Star Wars "Role Play" Items
« on: April 19, 2005, 11:26 AM »
Do any of you collect these, or even buy 1 or a few?  Have you bought any in the past?  With seeing a number of the role play items on the shelves for the ROTS merchandise release, I've been somewhat tempted to get a lightsaber or gun, or both, since this is likely the last movie push we'll see.  I haven't ever bought a modern "role play" item, and the only one I have is one of those vintage "the Force" lightsabers that were out when I was a kid (I have the red, Vader one).  I know that these are actually more for the kiddies, and I respect that fully. However, part of me thought it might be cool to get a lightsaber, or perhaps a blaster, and was considering some of the ROTS ones.  I know that Master Replicas makes a much better "replica" product, but these are more affordable, and more fun to play with with our nephews :).  Anyways, do any of you have any of these, or would recommend some fun ones to pick up...or accurate ones?  Has anyone picked up any of the ROTS role play items?

As I think Scott has brought up before with the various Jedi from the ROTS line, it seems like a lot of these figures (particularly Coll 2) are so much better than previous incarnations, it becomes tempting to buy extras to stick in your other movie displays.  Have any of you been doing this, or planning to?  I know I've been tempted to pick up extras of the following:

Collection 2 Jedi (Ki Adi, Aayla, Plo, Kit, SaeSee, Barriss, Shaak Ti, Agen Kolar) - For TPM/AOTC.
Emperor Palpatine - Seems much better than the Saga Emperor we got, would like to get one for ROTJ.
C-3PO - Basically the best 3PO we've seen.  Missing the "silver leg" for OT I guess, but I think I could look past that.  I might end up getting an extra one of this one either way.
Darth Vader - Could work for other movies as well, although not necessarily the best figure in the world.  Certainly not VOTC quality.

Anyways, are there any you are buying extras of, aside from army building and/or having a carded/loose collection?

Revenge of the Sith / ROTS Recent Purchases
« on: April 6, 2005, 11:19 AM »
Well, we had a thread for OTC/VOTC, thought it might be nice to pass on into ROTS.  After all of the hoopla last weekend, are you still making purchases?  Have you spread things out a little so you have something to pick up over the next few weeks/months, etc.?  Have you bought anything since April 2?

After picking up most of the first 32 (that's as high as we got here as well), I'm still holding off planning to pick up figures like Mon Mothma and extras of others over the next couple of weeks.  Went to Wal-Mart and TRU yesterday to check for things (specifically Red Royal Guard and anything #33 and up), but nothing new.  Pretty much plenty of all figures 1-32, aside from Guards and Clonetroopers.  The Emperor figure seems to be somewhat scarce as well.  I did pick up an extra Chewie, after not finding anything else, because I like to keep one Chewie (and Han) carded from each line.  I was tempted to get the Force Battler Vader (only one I'm interested in right now), but held off for now.  $10 just seemed a bit much.  I have seen quite a few of these selling, although the rest of them are sitting.  Also, just happened to notice, but the Droid Tri Fighters seem to be pretty scarce around here.  I've only seen them at TRU so far, and haven't picked one up yet (not sure if I will yet or not).  AT-RT is also scarce, haven't seen any in town since Saturday...and I really wish I would have bought the one I saw at TRU :).  Anyways, any recent purchases, finds, or general observations?

The Prequel Trilogy / Revenge of the Sith Visual Dictionary
« on: April 4, 2005, 11:14 AM »
The only book I picked up this weekend, and although I haven't read all the way through it, it is neat as always.  Some interesting points found inside, whether this is EU or not who knows, but just some food for thought (Spoilers Present):

"Obi-Wan is not without his secrets, including a relationship with Jedi Siri Tachi, who died saving Padme"

"Dooku's turn to the darkside began with the murder of Jedi Master Sifo-Dyas, his former friend and a confidant in the Order.  Assuming control of the plans Sifo-Dyas had set in motion to create a clone army for the Republic, Dooku saw to it that all mention of the planet Kamino was erased from the Jedi Archives."

"R2-D2's talent for never revealing more than he has to may be due to Anakin's modifications"

"With the creation of the Empire, the Red Guard becomes the Imperial Guard.  Palpatine picked its members from non-clone military units"

"The General is secretly humiliated at having being resurrected as a cyborg."

"It is thought that Baron Papnoida may be a double agent." ;)

"Restless by nature, he (Chewbacca) has also visited scores of planets, and is a veteran of numerous adventures, including run-ins with Trandoshan slavers."

Collector's Tips / Hanging Ships
« on: March 29, 2005, 04:18 PM »
Has anyone here ended up hanging any of their vehicles/ships from the ceiling?  I have always displayed mine on shelves, but I've been considering trying the hanging option.  I'm starting to get tight with space (conserving an area for ROTS stuff), and would like to keep my ships out and on display....but if they were off of a shelf and hanging above, it would really help out.  Anyways, I was just wondering if any of you have (or are considering) ended up hanging ships, and how you felt about it.  Also, what do you use to hang them (fishing line?) and to bolt/screw/attach them to the ceiling.  Thanks for any advice you might have.

Jocasta's Reading Room / Star Wars Insider
« on: March 21, 2005, 10:13 AM »
For those of you that are subscribed, have you received the latest (Obi-Wan on the cover) issue yet?  I saw via the Official Site that it shipped to subscribers on March 11, but it hasn't shown up here yet.  It might still be coming (hits newsstands next Monday I guess), but I was just curious if mine was just late, or perhaps got skipped, or if anyone else had even received theirs yet.

Revenge of the Sith / Target Exclusive Clone Trooper
« on: March 15, 2005, 09:38 AM »
Rebelscum has a report up detailing a number of possible Target store exclusives (outside of the red, metallic, lava Vader).  Here's what is rumored:

Due on April 2nd:

087-06-0937 - Figures with Cups
087-06-1262 - Micro Vehicles
087-06-0311 - Collector Edition Darth Vader with Laval Reflection Figure

Due on May 8th:

087-06-1489 - Collector Edition Stormtrooper/SW Articulated Super Clone Trooper
087-06-1490 - 5-pack Collector Cases

Some of these sound quite cool, and I'm personally happy there might be more figure/cup combos...for the cups anyways :).  Collector edition Stormtrooper/Clonetrooper sounds cool too.  Also, anyone have further info on the 5 pack collector cases?  I thought I heard these rumored awhile back as well.

The Prequel Trilogy / Theatrical Poster Tonight on ET?
« on: March 8, 2005, 01:58 PM »
Saw this via another forum, and then checked on TVGuide.com for myself.  Their description for tonight's episode of Entertainment Tonight reads as:

Entertainment Tonight - "Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith" is discussed. Included: A look at it's poster.

Take it with a grain of salt, but I'll probably check it out/tape it just in case.  If it is revealed, it will likely be on the OS, if not SWShop.com, by tonight or tomorrow.  According to some posters on TF.N forums, Pablo Hidalgo hinted at this on the OS forums last week.  I don't really frequent either, so I'll have to take their word for it.  Anyways, just thought I'd give a heads up to anyone who wants to tune in, if available in your area.  I always enjoy the movie posters, so I'm anxious to see what it looks like.  Hopefully this is true, seems like about the right time.

Original Trilogy Collection / Empire Strikes Back - 25th Anniversary
« on: February 25, 2005, 03:23 PM »
With all of the ROTS hype, it seems that the 25th anniversary of ESB is being forgotten somewhat.  Now I understand that it isn't quite as big of a deal as the whole trilogy starting off in 1977, but it would be kind of neat to see it recognized somehow.  I don't know how many of you felt about the three 2-packs we got for the 25th of Star Wars, but I thought they were kind of a neat "limited" collectible.  Not limited in the sense that they were hard to find necessarily, but that there were just a few of them and that was it.  I personally wouldn't mind seeing something like this done for ESB, but it unfortunately doesn't look like its going to happen, unless Hasbro is getting real good at keeping secrets :).  Would anyone else like to see something like this happen?  Even if it doesn't, I'll just use this post/thread as a tribute to my personal favorite of the Saga so far...Happy 25th Anniversary ESB :).

Revenge of the Sith / RotS - Collection 1 Figures
« on: February 23, 2005, 11:37 AM »
Hasbro has now posted "close up looks" at some of the collection 1 figures (looks like 11 of the first 12 to me, no Grievous).  Although not necessarily anything new, always nice to get some official pics of them too.

Revenge of the Sith / April/2005 - Your Plan of Action
« on: February 22, 2005, 12:15 PM »
After seeing the pics, information, and comments of what has been shown at Toy Fair (and around the web the past few weeks/months), are you starting to get an idea of what you will be (or would like to) picking up this year?  Although we still have some figures/toys yet to be seen, and hopefully some surprises, now that we have some official information (and prices), I've been trying to piece together what I'm hoping to pick up.

Basic Action Figures - $5.99
Most likely I'll be picking up the majority of this line, although I'm not a completist.  Collection 2 figures have all looked great, and I will likely buy those in their entirety.  Collection 1 figures I might be more selective with, although I will pick up all wookiees and clones, and then the "best" versions of the main characters.

Deluxe Action Figures - $9.99
Not sure about this yet, but I think I will probably get the "Anakin to Vader" deluxe figure.  Undecided on the Emperor, but I think I might get that one as well.  Passing on that leaping Obi-Wan thing though.

Battle Arenas - $19.99
These didn't turn out nearly as cool as I first thought, and I think I will likely be passing on these as well.  If they look better in person, I might reconsider, but now...at that price...I think I'll pass.

12" Figures - $19.99-$49.99
I'm not much of a 12" figure collector, so likely passing here as well.  I will probably pick up that ROTS Chewie we've seen some pics of here and there (even though it is a KB exclusive).  Wanted to get the OTC version, but just never did.

Vehicles - Battle Vehicles - $14.99
From what I've read, this consists of the BARC Speeder, AT-RT, and Boga.  I will likely be picking up all three of these, but I'll check them in person to be sure.

Vehicles - Assault Vehicles - $19.99
Again, from what I've read, this consists of Obi-Wan's Starfighter, the Droid Tri-Fighter, and Grievous' Wheelbike.  These I'll have to wait and see on (price and space), but I'd like to for sure get Obi's fighter and Grievous' wheelbike, and we'll see about the Tri-Fighter.

Vehicles - Gunship (Large) - $29.99
ARC 170 Fighter and Gunship repaint.  I'll be passing on the Gunship for sure, already have 1 and barely have the space for that one.  A really cool ship though I think, and quite large.  I would definitely like to pick up the ARC 170, providing I have the cash :).

Playsets - $29.99
The Mustafar playset.  It seems a bit underwhelming from the pics, but I'm still considering picking it up, just because I haven't bought a modern playset yet and they were always kind of neat in the vintage days.  Undecided on this one for now.

Unleashed - $14.99
From what we've seen and know is coming, I think I'll be picking up all three.  I for sure would like to get the Anakin/Obi-Wan (I passed on the AOTC versions), and I think these would make a nice "centerpiece".  Grievous I may pick up as well.  I really like this line a lot, but finding the space for them is proving more and more difficult.  I've seen rumors of Chewie, Clonetrooper, Yoda and Sidious...and I'd consider each of those as well.

Force Battlers - $9.99
I'm guessing none of these for me.  The price is too high, and I'm not all that crazy about them.  If they produce a Chewie one, I'd probably pick it up, but otherwise for now I'm staying away from these I think.

Galactic Heroes - $4.99
Three new sets so far is all we've seen, and I'll pick up all three if I see them.  Another line that I think is fun, and relatively inexpensive, to collect.  I'll get the 3 ROTS offerings, and hope that we see more later in the year (hopefully more OT as well).

Jedi Force - $7.99
Surprised we're seeing these and "Force Battlers" side by side, seem like the same type of thing.  I have picked up a few of these previous releases (Chewie, Droids, Vader), and might be tempted to get some of these new ones.  I'll likely get a Han to put with Chewie, and the Yoda looks kind of neat too.  The others I will have to consider at the time, but again, not sure if I have the room for them...and they are more for the kiddies (but I guess all of this is....supposedly, right? :P)

Darth Tater - $7.99
Maybe.  Maybe.  That's all I can say at this point.  I sometimes like the little odd-ball additions to the collection.

Attacktix - $5.99 to $9.99
Nope, not interested in these at all.

Role Play - Various Prices
I've never picked up anything like this in the modern line (have one vintage Vader saber), so I'm kind of tempted to get one lightsaber, just to have one.  I'll also look at the nerfy Chewbacca bowcaster.  Might be fun to play with with our nephews (or kids someday).

Lots more coming this year, but this is a long enough post as it is.  These will probably be the main focuses for me, but it is more than enough on its own.  Lots of money spent this year, our checkbook is already shivering in corner :).  Any idea of what you are looking towards picking up this year?

The Prequel Trilogy / Looking Back...
« on: February 9, 2005, 03:52 PM »
Had some down time this afternoon, so I was nosing around the Official Site, and had a look at some of the trailers from TPM and AOTC.  Although TPM is my least favorite of the SW films, and is generally disliked by a number of people, watching the trailers for that movie did bring back some nice memories.  When the hype was so high for the return of Star Wars, how I liked the movie when I initially saw it, maybe just because it was new Star Wars (although that lightsaber battle still is pretty awesome).  I remember being shocked and amazed and thinking how cool it was that the bad guy (Maul) had a two bladed lightsaber.  I wasn't into spoilers at that time, so it was a surprise to me seeing the trailer.  Anyways, kind of fun to look back and think about when Star Wars movies were first coming back and letting us extend this ride just a little longer.
