Kubricks / Re: Series 9
« on: July 22, 2008, 04:10 PM »
Just got my box of 12 from National Console Support. Got 2 yellow clones in the box. Funny thing was that the first clone box I opened was a yellow one, and so was the next. I was like, "wait, these aren't all supposed to be yellow, are they...?" Nice to get some chases anyway. I'll try and get some pictures posted later.

I've got a set of these coming in the mail!  8)  I'm curious to see if the keychain part can be unscrewed from the head without damaging them...

Yes, they can.

Really? Do you just do it by hand? I guess I should try on one of my extras...

So, Evilalive, does Zam have an alternate alien face painted on the back of the head?

I believe that was confirmed a "no" earlier.

National Console Support has sent me my box of Series 9 bricks. Seems quite a bit quicker than with Series 8, so I'm happy.

Spirit of Obi-wan is just a very common figure that people can't even give away, while Yoda is an exclusive figure of which very few were made, so it's going for $200+ on ebay. Aesthetically, one isn't markedly better than the other (and as you say, I might in fact prefer Obi-wan).

Both of mine appear to be identical. Not that I care that much one way or the other.

The entire hobby is insane...Star Wars in general.

True to some extent. Kubrick collectors tend to spend more on individual figures, while many collectors of modern Hasbro stuff seem to spend similar amounts, just spread over more figures (buying dozens of clones or whatever). I guess it depends on your priorities. And of course it's hard to stay with one particular category of collectible as well. I thought I was more or less done with props, but somehow ended up buying one of the eFX stormtrooper helmets yesterday. Of course, I'd rather spend $400 on that than on a couple of Kubrick chases, but that's just me.

They're not terrible customs, but not worth $50 IMHO. And yeah, unless that TRU set has skyrocketed, that's a pretty high price. I got mine for $25 a couple of months ago.

Not to worry. They come right off if you want to remove them.

I just set it up so I don't know how hard it will be to dust, but I think I'll just use compressed air to blow it away (the Kubricks are held down to some degree using Glue Dots, so they shouldn't be affected by it).

I added some pictures of my Kubricks to my collection thread. Here's a preview:

Hi guys. I thought I would make a collection thread since I finally got around to displaying my Kubricks in a reasonably attractive manner. Before, they were just sort of lined up on shelves and it looked kind of makeshift. I'll add some pictures of the other parts of my collection later.

The picture you see here is of a corner in my home office, where I have my computer. I have one wall with VCDs and Mighty Muggs (although this will eventually be all VCDs) and another wall for Kubricks.

The shelves are from Michael's hobby shop. I got them because they were on sale 40% off and they also claimed to be easy to install (and in fact they were). All of my Kubricks are on risers made of rectangles of black foam board that I cut out and glued together. I used four layers of foam board per "step" and made three steps, so there are four levels all together (including the shelf itself). I had a few frustrating accidents where one of the figures on the top step would fall and take down all of the ones in front, so I eventually got some Glue Dots (small dots of medium-sticky adhesive that they sell on rolls of tape) and put them on the bottoms of my Kubricks' feet. They're still moveable, but they don't fall over anymore.

I tried a lot of different arrangements for the Star Wars Kubricks and when organizing by movie or series didn't seem to work out very well, I went with "bad guys" and "good guys." The other Kubricks are just sort of haphazardly arranged. I'm sure I will be rearranging them in the future.

Mine have already shipped. That was quicker than I expected.
And now they're here! I saw some duplicates in the package so I was afraid that maybe the seller had given me a random selection instead of a full set, but it turned out that they gave me 20 instead of 16, so there were 4 duplicates (1 stormtrooper, 1 yoda, 1 imperial logo, and 1 boba fett). I'm keeping the stormtrooper so I can have one on either side of Vader, but I'd be interested in selling or trading the others if anyone is interested.

I have them displayed on my "brick wall" that I recently finished. I'll post some pictures of the whole thing once I get my desk cleaned up enough to make it presentable.

Anyway, they're quite nice. They'd be perfect if they were full size and didn't have the keychains, but even so they're very well done, I think.

Other Collectibles / Re: Hasbro Mighty Muggs

A Wal-mart in my area recently got a big restock of the Star Wars Mighty Muggs, including Darth Vader and Chewie among others, so apparently they're still sending out the older waves. That's good news for people who may have missed them.
