Watto's Junk Yard / Re: Top 10 favorite movies
« on: June 24, 2003, 05:03 PM »
I was actually thinking about starting a thread about your favorite movie trilogies or franchises, but this seems to fit better anyways.  However, I might cheat a little and put the trilogies together, otherwise my top ten would fill up too quickly :P.

1. Star Wars Original Trilogy (If broken down it would be Empire, Jedi, New Hope)
2. Star Wars Prequel Trilogy (Not a big fan of PM, but really enjoyed AOTC and looking forward to Episode 3 as well)
3. X2: X-Men United (Always a big X-men Fan, like both of these movies a lot)
4. LOTR trilogy (Haven't seen the third one obviously, but if its anything like the first two at all, it ranks up here if not higher)
5. Indiana Jones trilogy (one more to come, but all three are great.  Last Crusade might be my favorite of the three)
6. Christmas Vacation (My wife and I watch this every year, never gets old either)
7. Mallrats (this has always been a favorite of ours as well)
8. Tommy Boy (having it on TV so much has kept my from watching it as often, but one of the all time classics at our house)
9. Dumb and Dumber (another comedy classic)
10. Life as a House (and its not because of the "anakin connection", it is just a movie that my wife and I really enjoy)

There are several other movies that are great, and my top ten probably changes a lot...I'm sure I'm forgetting several.  My wife and I really enjoy movies, so its tough to narrow it down.  Others I can think of off hand are Ferris Bueller, A Time to Kill, Drowning Mona, Shrek, E.T., Goonies, etc.)  Nice topic, by the way :).

Watto's Junk Yard / Re: What else do you collect?
« on: June 24, 2003, 04:52 PM »
I often times wish I could collect a few more lines than I am able to, but for now its just a little bit:

Vintage Star Wars 3 3/4": Loose, complete figures
Modern Star Wars 3 3/4": Figures, Beasts, Vehicles - Only the ones I like, not a completist, I buy them carded, but I open them as soon as I get them :)
Marvel Legends: I just got into this line, only collecting the "X-Men" ones.
State Quarters: My grandma started me on this collection, and gives me all the ones that come out from each year at Christmas :)

I've been "tempted" by a few other lines along the way, but haven't bought into them yet (we couldn't afford for me to collect something else I don't think, plus we don't have the room).  Other lines I almost got into include LOTR, the rest of the Marvel Legends, Gi Joe, Simpsons, and the new Masters of the Universe.  Just so many great toys nowadays ;).

Watto's Junk Yard / Re: Do You Have Pet's?
« on: June 24, 2003, 04:26 PM »
My wife and I have a 3 year old Beagle.  We are pretty big animal people, particularly dogs, and would probably have a couple more if we had the room right now.  I don't know about you guys, but our pet is basically a member of our family...we basically treat him like our child :).

Vintage Kenner / Re: Take the time, train a rookie?
« on: June 24, 2003, 04:09 PM »
I by no means know nearly as much as others here, but as someone who has just been getting into vintage collecting slowly over the past year or two, I will echo their comments as well.  Patience really is the key.  When I first started collecting vintage loose, I was first replacing any ruined/played with figs from my childhood, and was a little anxious to get a few at first.  But, after listening to advice from many of these same people, I did learn patience, and you can really find good deals on a lot of (if not most of) the figures (POTF are tougher I would think, I haven't gotten into those yet).  Sometimes its also good to look at a seller's other items on ebay, that way you can get 3,4,5+ figures for the same shipping cost as 1 figure.  Good luck on your collection!

Vintage Kenner / Re: Take a look at what I got!
« on: June 24, 2003, 03:49 PM »
I'd like to congratulate you on that score as well, that is really cool that your dad found that for you as well.  Vintage figures are always fun to collect, and really bring back the nostalgia.  My goal is to someday have a loose complete vintage collection as well, and I've been picking up figures here and there over the past year or so.  Another great thing about (most of) vintage collecting is that the figures are pretty much always there if you want to pick something up.  You don't have to wait for them to hit stores over a period of several months (if ever  :)).  Anyways, congrats on that score, and the display looks great!

The Bullpen / Marvel Legends
« on: June 23, 2003, 02:45 PM »
Glad to hear that they have started to show up in the U.S.  I personally can't wait to get a Beast figure, he was always one of my favorite X-Men, if not the favorite depending on my mood ;).  The rest of this wave looks great too, I'll have to pick up the Gambit as well if I can find them.  I'm looking forward to hopefully seeing pics of Wave V at Comic-Con.

Clone Wars '03-'05 / Re: Clone 3-pk ...does it suffice?
« on: June 23, 2003, 01:34 PM »
For the price, I don't think you can really complain about the Clone 3-Pack.  I was always kind of hoping for a really articulated white version, or even repaints of the red basic version in the yellow, blue, and green colors.  But, this is a fairly inexpensive way to build up your army, and are especially good for diorama builders.

Saga '02-'04 / Re: Target Has New Items
« on: June 23, 2003, 01:32 PM »
My wife and I checked out our closest Target this weekend, and all they had was a few of the Deluxe sets/Accessory sets, and no pegs even out for basic figures anymore.  Their toy aisle was also rearranged since the last time I was there.  However, there was a decent sized bare space in their aisle (no pegs even)...perhaps reserved for this rumored Clone Wars launch?  I'm not sure, but I sure hope they put out some new stuff soon.  Congrats to all of you who have found something new!

Saga '02-'04 / Re: What 2003 SAGA product are you still missing?
« on: June 23, 2003, 01:23 PM »
I wanted to rely on retail, and in the past I have pretty much been able to, but we still don't have any 2003 figures around here, so I have pre-ordered a number of this year's offerings through Kebco (Hoth Han, Mynock Chewie, Jedi Luke, Jedi Vader, Snowtrooper, Yoda, Younglings, Unleashed, etc.)  I think many of us have little choice but to go online right now, but maybe things will improve in the next month or two.  Plus, many online prices have gotten better....especially if you can do it case wise like Newforce.  I personally don't have anyone around here to really split up cases with, so that's why I went with Kebco for now.  Good luck to everyone in their searches...hopefully everyone will be able to get what they are looking for.

Oh yeah, I forgot about the Bartender R2 on my list, I've always wanted to see that figure as well...I'd have to add him on too....the 3PO diety wouldn't be too bad either.

Thanks for the replies everyone.  After reading more about the Kubricks line of figures on this site and this forum, it makes me kind of envious.  Those figures look great, but I don't think I could afford to collect them.  I would really like to see Hasbro explore the idea of releasing more figures for the playskool line, similar to what Kubrick's is doing with their figures.  I know that there was an e-mail sent out at one point exploring the possibility of figure 2-packs, and that would be pretty cool I think.  I'd still like to see vehicles/beasts like the sets so far, but getting a couple of these little figs for like $4-5 wouldn't be too bad either.  I'd like to see a Boba Fett, Yoda, Lando, Leia, etc. in this line eventually...and I think they'd sell pretty well.  Give the kids (and collectors) the main characters at least :).

I like all of the suggestions above, here's a few I would like to see:

1. Jabba the Hutt (2004?)
2. General Madine (rumored?)
3. Han Solo Endor (I know some people probably cringe reading this, but it was always my favorite vintage figure as a kid, and I'd really like to see a really good one made, Endor Raid and the POTF2 versions are alright, but aren't quite perfect)
4. Chief Chirpa/Lumat (Two pack Idea OCB had is fine by me!)
5. Romba/Warok (ditto #4)
6. Hermi Odle w/ Bubo (Jabba's Aliens always cool)
7. Skiff Nikto (ditto)
8. Endor Luke and/or Leia (I'd like to see either one of these, I think the POTF2 ones can be greatly improved upon, but again, I'm all about getting new figures first for those of you who hate resculpts...I'd just like to see what the sculptors and technology can do now a days to improve on some of these main characters too)
9. Lando Skiff Disguise (another redo, but I would like to see it done eventually)
10. Bib Fortuna Redo (I don't have the POTF2 one, but it doesn't look too pretty to me ) :P

Other Collectibles / Re: New Unleashed Packaging
« on: June 20, 2003, 04:49 PM »
I think the new packaging is great as well.  I was planning on pre-ordering this wave anyways, because it is full of my favorite characters, but once I saw this new packaging I ordered them that same day.  I really think it is an improvement over the previous packaging, and maybe some of the best we've seen in awhile.  I really like the art on the cards, and the way they look in package.  I'm an opener, and these figures almost make you want to get one to keep in package :).

Saga '02-'04 / Re: KEBco Toys Question
« on: June 20, 2003, 04:46 PM »
After the retail troubles of 2003, I have started pre-ordering my figures through them (although I'm not "technically" in the one of every fig club, I order from their non-member page currently...prices are slightly higher), but I have nothing but good things to say about them as well.  I haven't received my preorders yet, but they are pretty new figures (Hoth Han, Chewie, Yoda, Younglings, Jedi Luke, etc.), but I have ordered in stock figures from them before and had great luck.  They are very good about answering any questions you might have, and like said before, they will hold figures if you want them to ship together to save on shipping costs.  I would recommend them, especially with the problems finding any of these figures this year.  Good luck!

Modern Classifieds / WTB: Trash Compactor Set 1 (Han and Luke)
« on: June 20, 2003, 04:42 PM »
I have only been able to find the Leia/Chewie TC set, and I would really like to pick up the Han/Luke set if anyone has an extra one around them for retail + shipping?  I know these weren't easy to find for anyone, but I just thought I'd check and see if someone out there was lucky and found one.  Box condition doesn't matter too much to me, I'm an opener...however I would like to have the box too :). Thanks!
