IGN has posted hi-res images now of the Fantastic Four, and you can check them out HERE  Same pics as the other day (on USA Today), but much, much clearer.

The Prequel Trilogy / Re: "Before the Helmet" Discussion Thread
« on: September 24, 2004, 09:26 AM »
I just got a chance to check out that new BTH this morning, and I know what you are saying.  Very cool, IMO.  This is actually a part of ROTS that I'm looking forward to the most, Chewbacca (and more Wookiees) in action on their home planet.  Should be pretty cool to see, nice pic this week.

Kubricks / Re: Power of the Kubricks!

Ah, you sent Brian a Han Kubrick, eh?!  Yeah, he's poked in his nose in here a few times in the past.

Yeah, Jeff was nice enough to send an extra Han Kubrick he had laying around my way.  I've always been interested in these things, and each time I came in here checking out your conversations on the line, I got tempted even more.  I figured I'd start out with my favorite, Han, and see what the line was all about.  I'm sure once I get my first one, I'll be hooked.  Hopefully I can afford to go along for the ride with you guys here in "the club".

Nice news on the box set.  The character choice is interesting, although I really like that Bespin Han.  Excuse my newbie-ness, but how does this work when a set like this or something comes out overseas?  Do you guys go via ebay, or place "your order" with Simon, or what is the best way to go?  Since I'm new here, and not even sure if I can afford to go all out, I certainly don't expect to be able to have the same precedence as you guys...but I was just curious how you go about getting these since they aren't released in the US (and Canada).  Anyways, if nothing else, its nice to be a very small part of the club here...with my first Kubrick arriving hopefully by the beginning of next week. :)

Heard another rumor: Wally and Kandi for Vince Carter

Ooo...that would be nice.  I know some people aren't real high on Vinsanity anymore, but the guy can play some hoop.  Plus, Wally and Kandi for him would be a good deal I think.  Probably won't happen, but interesting anyways.

Also, I read on CNNSi.com that there are rumblings that Jordan may be considering (another) comeback with the Miami Heat.  Sources include Kiki Vandewedge, the Miami paper, and Shaquille O'Neal (who claims Jordan has left several messages on his machine).  You can read it over at CNNSI.com, under that "Truth and Rumors" area.  Now, I'm as big of a Jordan fan as the next guy...and really, really enjoyed watching him play...but the constant retiring/unretiring thing is getting a little silly now.  I also heard somewhere that if Jordan did come back, that Karl Malone would sign on too.  I can just see it now, Dwayne Wade waiting at the other end of the court for the old men and Shaq to catch up to him :P  It would definitely be interesting though, and I do think Jordan could contribute, as long as he didn't have to be the star of the team.  If he could play 20-25 minutes a night, and go for 12/3/3 type numbers, he could fit in with them well.  Anyways, food for thought....

Gentle Giant / Re: Bust Ups!
« on: September 23, 2004, 03:51 PM »
I'm still on the fence with these as well, although they do look kind of nifty.  Plus, I can't really afford to on board for the regular bust line, so this might be an option.  I just noticed in the latest issue of Insider, there is an ad for these, and says they will be at Suncoast and Hot Topic.  Hopefully that will help some people find what they are looking for too.

Congrats on the great find.  Hopefully these start popping up everywhere in the coming days/weeks/months now.  I just saw that someone had a review (with some pics) posted in the rebelscum forums...and really, all four of these figures look pretty good to me.  Might be one of the best waves overall, since all four figs look to be pretty good.  Really jonesin' for that Chewie, and the others look great as well.

Although I've kind of been getting away from ML now, due to collecting funds (it has been tough turning away from them though), I do still check the aisles when I'm out Star Wars shopping.  There hasn't been any sign of ML 6 around here at the stores, just seeing remnants of 5 and earlier.  Did see the Fantastic Four box set at Wal-Mart, but no sign of the Sinister Six one anywhere yet.  Seems to be a sort of slow time for ML right now.

The Original Trilogy / Re: Star Wars Trilogy DVD Impressions
« on: September 23, 2004, 09:19 AM »
Got a chance to watch ANH and ESB yesterday, and hopefully ROTJ tonight or this weekend.  I'm glad to see that many of you have been noticing the same things, feeling the same way about the DVDs as I have.  I agree with what Scott said, it was like watching new movies for the first time.  I kept commenting to my wife throughout both movies that I just couldn't believe how different, clearer, and better the movies looked.

I also noticed so many differences on Dagobah.  To me the whole planet and scenes on that planet seemed to be cast in a muddy brown color, but on these new DVDs, everything stands out so well.  Yoda is more color defined, and all the greens that can be seen in the Dagobah environment, everything just looks so nice.

To be honest, the changes I have seen so far in the first two movies haven't really bothered me.  I would have been fine with them leaving Boba's voice alone, but I guess it doesn't sound terrible.  The new Emperor scene, while the dialogue could have just stayed the same IMO, is probably an improvement visual-wise.  The new hologram looks better I think.  Jabba in ANH looks better than the original SE version, but still seems like they could do better than that.  While the Jabba doesn't look terrible, it doesn't look like the ROTJ version...and that sort of bothers me.

Anyways, little quibbles and changes aside, I am so happy to have these on DVD.  The movies truly have never looked better, at least of the ones I've seen (ANH and ESB), the sound is improved, and it is just a great way to enjoy my favorite movies of all time.  I keep saying it, but it is just amazing to me how different the movies look from the SE VHS tapes I bought (just a couple years back).  A great improvement, and I'm looking forward to watching Jedi soon too.

Original Trilogy Collection / Re: OTC DVD Sets
« on: September 21, 2004, 03:25 PM »
The Wal-Mart I visited this morning was much the same.  They had two of the floor displays (one by each entrance).  One was full of DVDs, and that was it, and the other had all DVDs and one side with a few of the sets.  I picked up the ESB set only for now, and that actually seemed to be the one that was most scarce at this particular Wal-Mart.  The action figure section was the same as it has been lately.  VOTC Han, Leia, and Ben...numbers finally starting to dwindle somewhat...and some OTC figures (mostly Dagobah wave and a few repacks).  Also plenty of the 12" figures from what I could see, these don't seem to be moving too quick here.  I still haven't seen the carry cases at either Wal-Mart, and am starting to wonder if we're going to.  Oh...yeah, I thought these DVD sets were much bigger in person too.  They seem pretty wide.  Packaging is kind of neat though, for a one time dealy.  I got a kick out of the "DVD Not Included" sticker on them  :P

Congrats on the find Tydirium.  Hopefully these will start showing up en masse more so now with the DVD release.  This is a ship that...although it is a repaint...I'm really looking forward to.  Strange about the missing rocket/gun, and a cheap out again.  By the way, what are these running...about $30-ish?

The Prequel Trilogy / "Return of Darth Vader" (OT DVD Bonus Disk)
« on: September 21, 2004, 01:35 PM »
For anyone who has/gets the DVD sets, the little featurette on the bonus disk entitled "Return of Darth Vader", is kind of neat.  I just had a chance to watch it quick over my lunch break, and I will admit, it had me pretty psyched for ROTS.  Its just going to be so cool seeing that character on the big screen again, in a different/new movie.  Anyone else have a chance to take a look at this yet?

Original Trilogy Collection / Re: VOTC/OTC Purchases
« on: September 21, 2004, 09:49 AM »
Went to Wally World this morning to pick up the DVD ($38.88 at this particular store, by the way), and decided to pick up one of the "DVD Commemorative Sets" as well.  I know they are all rehashes, but I got the ESB one because I enjoy all things Han and Chewie.  They had the other two sets as well, and they were ringing up $9.88, which I guess isn't too bad of a price really for 3 (or 4 for ANH) figures.
