Saga Collection '06 / TRU Defense of the Galactic Senate Battle Pack
« on: January 20, 2006, 12:07 PM »
Since it's now up for pre-order at Amazon.com, I thought we better start a topic.   :)

Last I read, this set was TRU exclusive and no one is really sure what is supposed to be included.  It says it's due May 1st, but we all know how well Amazon/TRU keeps those dates.   ::)

Maybe we'll learn more at Toy Fair?

They probably don't have enough in stock to fill your eight case order Jeff!

Hey, it was only four cases that I ended up ordering...  :P

And, GH updated with this nifty picture today:

Clicky for Picture

Man, I can't wait to do that with all my little Astromechs when those sets finally get here (and on another note - boy will it ever be nice to swap the Saga R5-D4 for that PotF2 monstrosity ;)).

Found wave 3 tonight at WM, sans the CW Gunship, leading me to believe the rumors of it's "Treasure Hunt" status to be true (since there were plenty of the other AT-AT, Vader's TIE, and Impy Shuttle).

Yes, the Clone Wars Gunship is a Treasure Hunt ship.

In fact, it has a shiny chrome label so that it stands out as different...

I just got notification that my Astromech sets are ready to be picked up...I'll be grabbing them tomorrow morning, I think.

So, first they say January.... then a week later they reset all the pre-orders to read February... then 1 day later they start shipping them?   ???

I guess they got the January shipment in, but maybe it's not enough to cover all the pre-orders?

So I say, **** those guys....make them work harder for stuff, by listening to what Gentle Giant asks of you and not reposting links like these.

Well GG didn't ask anything of me, because like I said, I never got the original note that said "no sharing" - just the pre-ordering info which was forwarded to me by other folks from around the 'net (other folks who apparently didn't feel so bad about sharing the links).

I'd take the links down, but it's all water under the bridge at this point for those two...

I'm new to this.  Do we count sales tax?

Yes, I usually do.

I have a question do we count trades and stuff we sell?

Yes, I usually do.

For trades, I count the cost of the stuff I bought to trade and shipping.

For stuff I sell, I keep track and deduct the money I made from selling stuff at the end of the year.  That way, I can keep track of what I actually spent and then see how much I saved by selling off older stuff.

Watto's Junk Yard / Re: Has anyone ever used 1-800-FREE-411?
« on: January 19, 2006, 02:21 PM »
I was just wondering if anyone has tried this yet and if there's any catch - it sounds like the type of thing that would have some strings attached.

I believe the catch lies in forced advertising... it goes something like this:

Let's say you need the number of a restaurant because you want to call ahead and put your name on the waiting list.  We'll use Applebee's as our example.

You call up 1-800-FREE-411 and ask for the number of the Applebee's restaurant nearest you.  The FREE-411 operator says, "sure - one moment please."  The operator then cues up an advertisement for Chili's restaurant.  At the end of the advertisement, the FREE-411 operator asks you if you'd rather be connected to Chili's instead.

If you say, "no- just give me the dang Applebee's number" then the FREE-411 operator will point out that Chili's has a similar menu and ask again if you want Chili's instead.  If you reject Chili's a second time, then they will put you through to Applebee's like you wanted.

So, if you're willing to be inconvienenced by listening to a 45second comercial folllowed by a hard sell while waiting for them to look up the number you want, then it's an OK service.  If you'd rather just get the number you wanted in the first place, you are better off with the regular 411 service.

So during the Wolves game last night, they said that KG is now just the sixth player in NBA history to:

- score 16,000+ points
- pull down 9,000+ rebounds
- record 3,500+ assists

The other 5 guys to do it?

Wilt Chamberlain, Elgin Baylor, Charles Barkley, Kareem Abdul Jabbar and Karl Malone.

Man, it's times like this I wish the Wolves woudn't have screwed everything up.  Between piss-poor drafting and the Joe Smith scandal, this team frittered away some GREAT KG years.   :'(

So, I guess I am left to just sit back and hope that next year they finally get rid of McHale and go get KG the help that he needs to win it all...  :-\

Saga Collection '06 / 2006 American International Toy Fair
« on: January 19, 2006, 12:02 PM »
So, we're just a little over 3 weeks from this year's Toy Fair.

What are you hoping to see?  Have questions you'd like our Toy Fair crew to ask Hasbro?

Personally, I hope Hasbro has info for us about the stupid Bounty Hunt figures.  I'd really like to know what's what before they hit (which could be March at the current pace  :P).  I also can't wait to get a look at some of the other waves we haven't seen yet, including the 2006 vOTC line-up, the Endor Wave, the Naboo wave, and the Yavin/Death Star wave!

Hopefully the rumored Ewok Village 3PO will be as articulated as we all want and I'm curious as to which Pod Racers made the cut for the Naboo wave.  Here's to hoping that Ben Quadrinaros finally makes the cut!   ;)

My friend Virex was telling me that you can beat Mike Tyson on Mike Tyson's Punch Out by giving him a Donkey Punch.  Anyone else heard of that before?

Uh... no.

And, looking back at this thread, this HAS to be where they got the costume design for Ep3 Anakin!

Look at it!  The hair!  The glove!  It all fits!

Anyway, lately I've been addicted to "Animal Crossing" for the NGC.  I hadn't played it for a year when the family came over on Christmas Eve and I dropped it in because my brother wanted to check it out.  Now I find myself turning the day thing on nearly every day to check out the wacky animals in my town...  :-[

So I gotta ask...what's with posting the collector's club links on the front page?

I just don't get the urge to share the link so publicly when all GG asks is not to spread it around.  That's all.

Well, I posted it on the front page, so I'll address this.

First off, I'm not a member of the Gentle Giant Collector Club (don't even collect these), yet I got the actual links from 3 different people via e-mail.  I never saw the "please don't share this" info as the people who shared it with me left that part out.  :P

My job is getting Star Wars related information in the hands of the people who are looking for it.  Simple as that.  I got a few leads that GG was offering these and the info checked out, so I posted it.

Sure, if I had known I suppose I could have said "check your e-mail" but what if the SPAM monster ate their e-mail?  What if they can't check it because their place of employment doesn't allow access to their hotmail/yahoo e-mail?

Why not make life easier for fellow collectors by just posting the links?  Collecting stuff like GG is hard enough as it is without adding some collector club only mumbo-jumbo into the mix.  I'm sure that the GG scalpers are well-aware of the club and are members ordering their one-per-day allotment, probably under multiple accounts.  I highly doubt that by posting the links I let the scalpers in on the secret.

Anyway, trying to keep information in a publicly dispersed e-mail private is kinda silly.  The info will get out there anyway, what is the difference if people get the info via the front page link or via a PM from another forum member?  Either way people are sharing the info.

I understand that there's a difference between hot chocolate and hot cocoa...

I believe it has to do with the chocolate involved.

In order for it to be "real" Hot Chocolate, you need to use actual chocolate that has been shaved/chopped and melted into milk.

If you are using cocoa powder or some variant of chocolate, it's just Hot Cocoa.

Or something like that...
