Original Trilogy Collection / Re: SWS.com Exclusive Figure
« on: June 8, 2004, 04:11 PM »
Here's thier 2003 Annual Report:

Hasbro 2003

They netted $3,138,657 in '03 ver $2,816,230 in'02. They barely turned a profit in '03 - net earnigs of $157,664. They were in the hole in '02, a SW movie year. I can't see why they're in a rush for Ep3 unless they have a completely different strategy this time around (haha).

Just thought I'd point out that those numbers in the chart are in THOUSANDS of dollars.

As in, Hasbro netted $3,138,657,000 in 2003.  3 Billion dollars.  "Boys Toys was around 1.1 BILLION net, games and puzzles around 1.3 BIllion, everything else (Girls Toys, Wizards, etc) makes up the rest.

The "weak" profits after taxes and everything else were $157 million.  Just a bit more than "barely" in my book.   ;)

Padres take a page from the Twins' notebook and draft a local HS hero as the #1 pick in draft due to "signability".

Damn agents!  Teams get stuck with lesser picks (cough*Mauer*cough) because their dang agents threaten to hold out!  >:(

Grrr... the rules need to be changed to allow draft picks to be traded.  Right now, it is against the rules to let picks get traded, so baseball resorts to the old "Player to be named later" nonsense.  I wish they would change the rules, that way if a team knew a player wouldn't sign (cough*Prior*cough), at least then they could trade the pick to a team he would sign with and get something in return.

I'm going to go ahead and preorder it, even after I said I wasn't going to buy it in the first place.  Why?  The fifty dollar GC I got from SSW.com a few months back that I never ended up using.

Thanks for the reminder!  I had forgotten about that Gift Certificate.  I still had mine left to use too, so I dug it out of the checkbook and redeemed it when I pre-ordered my Sandcrawler at StarWarsShop.com today.

The total with shipping came to $17.94  :o

I was pretty sure that my local comic shop couldn't beat that price, so I decided to pull the trigger on the SWS.com pre-order.  Now we wait until November to see if it ever gets released...

Well,

I broke down and ordered from SWS.com despite all the bad reports I keep reading regarding the clone busts.

I still had my $50 gift certificate to use from that initial disaster, so I decided to use that to order the Sandcrawler.  $59.99 is a bit too steep, so I wasn't going to get one, but $9.99 plus $7.95 shipping is a whole lot more reasonable!

Yep, that's only $17.94 for the crawler shipped to my door.  Now we wait until November to see what happens next...

 ;)

Their [LAkers] wanton laisse-faire attitude to playing is disgusting and there is no way they should win based on the BS way they play when they wanna play...

Just though I'd bump the "I Play When I Wanna Play" Mascot to celebrate the latest "We Play When We Want" effort by the LAkers.

Maybe they want to go down 3-0 in order to REALLY have a challenge?

We broke out the DVDs and watched #1 aka "Stone" last Monday and then watched HP#2 aka "Chamber" oon Wednesday in anticipation.

We don't have tickets yet for HP#3 aka "Azkaban", but plan on seeing this movie either Sunday... or next weekend if we run out of time this weekend.

Looks good from the reviews I've read so far...

Managed to pick up an Anakin cup set last night...

Pretty good overall.  Interesting to see that on the figure, the magnet in his hand is replaced with a plastic plug and his arm is the plastic-peg non-magnet version as well.

The cup is, well a pretty cool cup.

Just need to track down Luka and Leia now...

VADER VADER VADER!

SEE VADER HERE!

"Based on The Empire Strikes Back, the vintage Darth Vader has sculpting and articulation that allow for exciting true-to-life poses. Vader’s ball-jointed knees, shoulders, and angled biceps were sculpted to achieve Vader’s kneeling pose in front of the Emperor in his meditation chamber.  His left hand is sculpted to place around another figure’s neck, providing a powerful choking feature. To allow for greater flexibility while posing, this figure is equipped with a soft plastic belt that was molded as a separate piece and is trapped at his lower back.

The vintage Darth Vader has a total of 12 points of articulation including angled biceps and ball-jointed head, shoulders and knees. He has standard articulation at his wrists, waist, and hips. Outfitted in a classic black soft-goods skirt and outer cloak, the vintage Vader comes with both a fully extended lightsaber and hilt.

For the packaging, we’ve recreated the Darth Vader version from The Empire Strikes Back. Some of the unique features from The Empire Strikes Back include:

Single silver bar around the character image but double silver bars around the movie title
Removal of the Luke & Leia image first seen on the A New Hope packaging
Removal of the price box
Gold accent color behind Vader figure
Coffin-style blister
Butterfly peg hook, die-cut but not punched out!
And the Kenner logo
Check back later to see the vintage Vader in-package."

very happy!

Original Trilogy Collection / Re: Hairy Chewbacca
« on: June 3, 2004, 08:52 AM »
I had a dream last night that I found all 12 of the vOTC at TRU and they rang up at $1.97 since the cashier thought they were the old vintage figures.

In my dream, the vOTC Chewbacca was indeed a Hairy Chewbacca, but it was awesome.  Not a flocked monster, not a fuzzball, but it was SO well executed.  If only I could explain how the hair worked.

*hmmmm*  He was kind of like a little hamster with a removable bandolier.  Man, was it a sweet figure.

Anyway, thought I'd bump this up and share.  It was just another one of those times I wish I could have taken a picture of something in my dreams to show off...

Jeff

ps.
In my dream, R2 had all his gadgets (scope, saber, probe), Fett sucked (Carkoon Fett with no backback), and the Stormie was the SA clone body with Stormie head).  FYI for those who would have asked.
