Joe Defender / Re: Vintage 3.75" ARAH Figures
« on: April 29, 2019, 07:48 PM »
I know not a lot of people visit the Joe forums any more, but I've still been chipping away at picking up or upgrading figures from the ARAH days - focusing on 1985 (for the most part) for now before moving onto another year (probably 84). In addition to the ones listed last time, I've picked up:

Quick Kick
Footloose
Alpine
Barbecue
Bazooka
Beach Head
Tomax and Xamot
Lady Jaye
Roadblock
Baroness

Some of them get fairly pricey these days, so I'm taking my time. It really reminds me how great, and huge, that line was with the figures, vehicles, playsets, etc. Good toys too.

Watto's Junk Yard / Re: The Avengers (and sequels)

Saw it last Friday and absolutely loved it. Near or at the top of all MCU movies, and when you consider how well it ties together this whole first batch of movies, maybe one of the best I've seen.  Going again this weekend, and will drop back when we can get into the details of things. So many goosebump inducing moments.

The Vintage Collection / Re: The Future of Star Wars Collecting?

Part of me wants it to be over too. That's just general fatigue that surfaces every few years. The crummy thing about 3.75 reducing or disappearing right now is we're about to enter a period where Hasbro can maybe cycle back to something we're more accustomed to. With the movies taking a break for at least a year or two, and TV being the primary focus, there is now an opportunity for Hasbro to play a little bit of catch up. Mostly that would be in the Disney era, but there's a lot of great characters from all these recent movies that I'd love to see. And Clone Wars, Rebels, on and on.

So many great points by everyone, that's why I love it here. I sort of see it going the way Jeff mentioned as well, but it would be a bummer if they didn't at least finish out this trilogy in the same scale. Then again,I think the 5.5 stuff does pretty well for Marvel (and seems more cost effective for parents/grandparents/gift givers).

I was sort of looking forward to the post movie line with hopes it would lead to a POTJ style line. I know I've mentioned it before, but I really liked that line. It kind of sounds silly, but I liked the more conservative lineup we had then. It was easy to keep up, most things were relatively easy to find, and we would get a few cool "ultra/deluxe" sets and usually retailer exclusive vehicles per year.

The Vintage Collection has basically been online exclusive for me since Wave 1 anyways (and Wave 2 at WalMart), so I wouldn't mind seeing it continue in that fashion. Heck, between finishing the original vintage line, fleshing out the newer movies, and some realscan re-releases, they could keep that going for years to come.

I don't have fatigue in a way where I don't like the figures any more, and the Vintage Collection is my top priority so I'd stick with that to the end...but I do feel what some of you have mentioned where it is kind of "well, we had a heck of a run". That's not to say I don't want more, heck I already want a Vintage Collection Mandalorian figure, but as someone who also buys a fair amount of Black Series figures as well, I guess I'm kind of waiting for Hasbro to make my decision for me on what to collect.  ;) The 6" stuff seems to be the future (and present?) of collector figures, and really outside of Jurassic Park, we are one of the few games in town in this 3.75" scale. Sometimes I wonder if the whole Sail Barge was sort of a last hurrah for our era of collectors, something that Steve Evans seemed to appreciate and really push for before he moved on from the brand.

The Vintage Collection / Re: The Future of Star Wars Collecting?

After the cool reveals of Celebration Chicago, particularly the Mandalorian, Clone Wars, and of course the Rise of Skywalker, it made me wonder what the Star Wars line will look like in 2020 and beyond. We know more movies are coming eventually, but it seems like the focus will be on tv streaming for the foreseeable future. I'm sure the Black Series will likely continue on as usual, with maybe more focus on the Mandalorian here and there. They have hit their stride pretty well there now.

The real question is 3 3/4". Will Hasbro have a 5 POA "for the kids" line? (Not sure what the rating will be, but maybe not squarely aimed at kiddos this time). What about TVC? You could arguably continue on much like the Black Series line, especially with RealScan improvements. Will we see vehicles, etc? Is it possible we get a more scaled back line (which is already slow on releases), similar to the Power of the Jedi days? The non new media related figures in the 5 POA line has been few and far between since the Disney era began, might be new territory next year.

Loved the trailer. It is so nice when you are really caught by surprise by things like this anymore, which is exactly what the Palps laugh did for me. Also fun to speculate on the title, it sounds really cool to me. To be honest, I was kind of in full Avengers mode (and am still pumped), but once I saw this it was all back to STAR WAAAAARS!!! Glad to see the band actually together in this movie, instead of all on their own missions. Lando!

I really, really hope we are able to make it to Disney this year or soon (we have never been), and definitely want to grab one of these. I've been hoping for a Black Series (and TVC) version of Hondo.

Honestly, even though we have gotten versions of these before, this may have been what I was most excited to see from the Hasbro stuff so far. Bummed it is a SDCC exclusive though, so it may be impossible to get. Hopefully they will see individual release down the road.

So I got (part) of my order yesterday. I originally ordered two of these the first time they were available, and never heard anything about them again. I reordered two again when they were available the second time, and received one of them yesterday. It was tossed in a box that looked to be slightly smaller than the actual cardback, so it was significantly crushed. The figure itself is fine, but I have been trying to keep a carded set of the OT figures they do in TVC, so I'm hoping to get a minty one down the road. Also curious what will become of the second figure I ordered. I really wish Wal-Mart would stop getting exclusives, they really don't seem to know how to handle them.

Ok, between researching online and the cardbacks of the few I have, I think I have a better idea of what it would take to catch up. I don't necessarily care about all the variants, and am more interested in the basic characters for now.

I had picked up a He-Man way back when this line started, and didn't get around to getting the others at the time.in the past month I've gotten Skeletor, Teela, and Evil Lyn and I think I might be hooked. The problem is I don't know if I can bring myself to open them, kind of love the box art. It also logos like it may be pricier to pick up some of the other earlier ones I missed, so we will see. Thanks everyone for your help. Side note, also picked up a Marty McFly, and preordered the basketball Teen Wolf. I've been watching eBay for a Goonies Chunk to finish off that set too.

Other than that I recall there has been Teeka, Man at Arms, Zodac, Stratos, Beast Man, and American Man (and maybe Tri Klops?). Is there anyone I'm missing?

American Man: Most Patriotic Man in the Universe!

American Man defends his country...right wrong!

Ha ha! Darn autocorrect, yes I did mean Mer Man  :)

Just to double check with the experts here, but what MOTU characters have all been released in the Reaction line so far, not including all those exclusives? I know we have obviously had He-Man and Skeletor (and their battle armor variants), and the most recent wave on BBTS consists of:

Orko
Ram Man
Mekanek
Scare Glow
Faker
Evil Lyn

I was actually going to post on here a few weeks ago to ask if anyone was going to pick up those blind boxed MOTU figures. Those look pretty neat. I've been very tempted by this line. I have He-Man and Skeletor, but have really been thinking about ordering more. It would be great if they eventually made a Battle Cat in this line with a Taun Taun styled trap door to put the rider in. 🙂

Other Toy Lines / Re: Modern Masters of the Universe

Not sure if this belongs best here or not, but is anyone collecting the "vintage" Masters of the Universe figures from Super 7? They are basically recreations of the original figures but in sort of an animated Filmation style. I picked up the He-Man and Skeletor, and they are pretty neat. Maybe even a little more solid than the vintage ones. They seem a little pricey at $20 each, so not sure if I will continue on or not. Just wondering if anyone else had looked at these.

I like Dagobah Luke and all, and will definitely buy one, but I was hoping for something a little more obscure here too. I think we have had more Lukes than pretty much any other character in the 6" line (Tatooine, Stormtrooper, X-Wing, Bespin, Hoth, Jedi, Force Awakens, soon to be exclusive new Stormtrooper Luke). Again, happy to get it, but didn't need a fan vote probably.

Just received my Barge a few minutes ago, man the box is gigantic. Won't get a chance to open until later, but still kind of amazed that this actually happened. Hopefully the place I envisioned holding this will work.
