Definitely liked the Kenner Walrus Man cameo.  Very nice nod to vintage collectors!

I also liked the nod to the Republic Commando video game with the final sequence.  Having Gregor fight the Battle Droids as he did was very reminiscent of some of the gameplay from the RC game.  Especially blowing up the fuel drums to take out the Battle Droids.

This episode may have made the previous episode in this Droid/Seperatist communications decoder arc almost semi-tolerable.

Droid Factory 2013 / Re: 2013 Legacy Collection Rumors
« on: January 4, 2013, 04:32 PM »
There's been a lot of speculation at the otheR site about the cause of this cancellation.  So many people seemed hung up on the fact that Disney was taking issue with the Droid Factory value added pack-in, and it being in conflict with the Droid Factory promotion at the theme parks.  Personally, I think they're dead wrong.

I think Disney's licensing people saw the packaging design and balked.  Sure, Lucas Licensing signed off on it, but we're in a new era.  Disney paid $4 billion + for Star Wars, and everything that comes with it.  I think that means they wanted that iconic black and silver packaging, because you see that and it says STAR WARS.  It's part of the brand identity.

As for the BAF droids?  I hope we see them at some point down the line.  I was really looking forward to all of them.

The prequel version of Yoda in Sideshow's 1:6 scale Order of the Jedi line is now up for preorder.  This one is $99.99.

Sad to hear that we won't be witness to how JJ Abrams would try to shoehorn some lens flare into the Star Wars saga.  :(

Watto's Junk Yard / Re: Freaks and Geeks: Anyone a fan?

Yeah, but look at some of the projects those people have been involved in post Freaks & Geeks.  The show was cool, and I totally got into watching it in re-runs on IFC.  But for both Rogen & Segel, a lot of their success has been in subsequent Judd Apatow projects.

Good showing, Ryan!  Your team got hot when you needed them to.  I'm still cringing about RG3 being out on week 15.  That might have been the difference between 1st place and 3rd place for my squad.  Either way, congratulations!

I haven't opened mine yet, but it's VERY tiny.  But I really don't think a regular sized figure is going to fit in that cockpit.

I picked up Yoda's Jedi Attack Cruiser and the Republic Attack Dropship in 501st deco tonight.  I passed on the MTT Droid Fighter and 501st AT-RT for now.

The Bullpen / Re: Iron Man 3 Toys

Looks like this line may be loaded with potential disappointments.  :(

Not a good way to go, since IM3 will be the first Marvel movie following on the box office success of Avengers

According to JTA, these have hit Canada at TRU.

Canadia can keep them.

$34, huh?  At that price I could be seriously tempted to buy the Helicarrier!

But then what about the future of the Avengers line?  We're just a little over a month away from Toy Fair.  And when you look at the Avengers Box Office gross numbers, it's the number 3 movie of all time with over $1.5 Billion worldwide.  One would think that Hasbro might want to revisit Avengers in 2013.  But what should they do?  Here's a wishlist:

BASIC FIGURES
Captain America (new uniform, no helmet)
Thor - Mountaintop battle (no armored sleeves)
Thor - Helicarrier battle
Tony Stark - Snap on Mark VII armor
Hawkeye - No sunglasses, rapelling gear
Loki - Unarmored
Maria Hill
Agent Coulson - with Destroyer gun
Chitauri Warrior - with removable facemask & articulation

DELUXE FIGURES
Banner & Hulk (properly scaled)
Black Widow & Chitauri hovercraft

There are definitely a good number of other figures you could offer if they expanded the Avengers comic line, too.  But I imagine Hasbro might not want to cross over too much with Marvel Universe.

The only good thing I'd consider doing with that Slave I is painting it in some sort of Death Watch colors and having it stand in as some sort of a Mandalorian starfighter.  Otherwise, I find this whole assortment completely useless.

The sourcing on a return to Tikal is sketchy.  Even the Reuters report that was the source for the comicbookmovie.com link was pretty vague.  And Reuters is a world-renowned news agency.  But in that part of the article it looked as though they were going on what a Guatemalan Star Wars fan group had stated, and nothing from Disney or Lucasfilm.

Only time will tell!

VolkerC posted some images of the first wave of Class 2 vehicles both packaged and loose.  And OMG does that version of Jango's Slave I look just RIDICULOUSLY small!

Personally, I'm glad that we're seeing a lot more new sculpts in this assortment.  And I'm fine with the Dropship's 501st deco repaint.  That ship was super scarce, and deserved a better run at retail.  And if Hasbro decides to repaint the Y-Wing Scout Bomber, too?  That's fine by me as well.
