Watto's Junk Yard / Re: New Line has license for 'The Hobbit'
« on: November 21, 2006, 01:05 AM »
PJ might be saying that he's off The Hobbit, but I think that this press release is his way of trying to shame New Line into resolving the matter.  Especially since he released this statements to THE LOTR fan site.  After he made such a masterpiece of the trilogy, it's unthinkable to a lot of fans to have anyone else at the helm of The Hobbit or what might be The Silmarillion.

Then there's the matter of the actors.  Has Ian Holm signed on to reprise his role as Bilbo?  Has Sir Ian McKellen signed on to play Gandalf again?  And in the case of The Silmarillion, have they signed any of the actors who played the Elves?  If they remain loyal to Peter Jackson you could see potentially see New Line change their tune.  Especially with how rabid the LOTR fanbase is.

Besides, I really only see a handful of directors being able to pull these movies off.  My first choices would be Terry Gilliam or Tim Burton.  But I also think that Cameron, Christopher Nolan or Ridley Scott might be able to pull this off.

Very cool!  I'm kind of curious about who that is in the mask.  Would Voldemort actually wear a mask?  I think I also spotted Bellatrix Lestrange.  It's also very cool to see Sirius Black back in the midst of things.

1:6 Scale Figures and Collectibles / Re: Sideshow 12" Asajj Ventress
« on: November 18, 2006, 07:47 PM »
Got my order in for the exclusive yesterday.  But man did those Sideshow servers get slammed!  Even with streamlining their website they were running pretty slow.  It took about 10 minutes from when I tried to get on the site until I was actually able to place my order.  But when it got to the point where I could place my order things went through pretty well.

Now here's something that might be the cause of an *interesting* discussion.  When Gentle Giant held their most recent online sales for their summer exclusives, there was a whole lot of complaining and comparing.  Notably that Sideshow ran their operation much better.  Well, looking at how things went yesterday for Asajj, I would definitely say they went better.  But not that much better.  You still had a load of people scrambling for the exclusive that was limited to 2,000 pieces.  It seems like Sideshow has some better website architecture, but the volume of users still slammed them pretty well.

Now as for the exclusive, I like it.  The one thing I'm wondering is whether or not Asajj falls into the Lords of the Sith line.

30th Anniversary Collection / Re: 2007 #03 Mace Windu
« on: November 18, 2006, 04:37 PM »
I think that regardless of what the head sculpt on the production piece is like, this will be the best Mace Windu figure that we've been offered.

But here's my question:  they've basically chosen to make a Mace from the duel in Palpatine's office.  It begs the question about when will we get a high quality version of Palpatine to complement this figure.

HTS should, at the very least, have put the IG-88 and Clone up on their site by now, but so far, nothing.  I've said it before, but if I could get rid of my non-Fett Titanium figures, I'd just call it a day on this line.  I'm highly doubtful that this line is going to go much further given the shoddy retail situation with them.

I hear you on this.  I really haven't been all that interested in the Titanium Figure line up until the IG-88 wave.  I've seen that BBTS has that wave as well as Grievous and C-3PO.  I may very well wind up buying those from them.  For me that's fairly signifigant since I've been trying to buy as much as possible at local retail, but these figures just seem to be too hard to find because of the distribution situation.

Saga Collection '06 / Re: Saga Kit Fisto's Jedi Starfighter
« on: November 17, 2006, 12:53 PM »
A question was asked about Fitso fitting in this ship & Hasbro said it did. Maybe we have to push farther.

Yeah, I asked that one.  Eventually I figured a way to get the ROTS Kit Fisto to fit.  You have to fold the back part of the tunic skirt up and keep it in place with the head tails.  But what Hasbro probably didn't figure on is this:  There is so little give in fitting the figure like this into the cockpit that invariably the head tails are going to damage the sticker that's on the seatback.  Oh well.  ::)

What's really sad about this is that he can just come out and say he did it and there's nothing anyone could do about it due to the whole Double Jeopardy thing.

I choose not to watch this crap.

He could be charged with perjury.

Not really.  He never testified in his criminal trial.  As for the civil trial, that could be another thing.

It was Photoshopped?

How disappointing.

Classic Matthew post.  ;D

30th Anniversary Collection / Re: Your Dream Wave
« on: November 15, 2006, 04:32 PM »
Hmmm.  The issue here has to be what movie to pick in order to assign a theme to this dream wave.  I think given where the line is right now I'd have to go with Return Of The Jedi as well.

01 - General Leia Organa - Endor Gear (SA w/ helmet, sg poncho, holster, blaster)
02 - Luke Skywalker - Death Star II Duel (SA w/ binders, lightsaber hilt, lightsaber)
03 - Royal Guard (ROTS w/ retooled arms & force pike)
04 - Ishi Tib - Jabba's Palace
05 - Klaatu - Jabba's Palace
06 - Imperial Gantry Droid
07 - Nien Numb (new sculpt, removable cap)
08 - Arvel Crynyd - Green Leader (w/ removable helmet, SA)
09 - AT-ST Driver (SA, removable helmet)
10 - Lumat & Romba Ewok 2-pack

- Emporer Palpatine & throne (SA w/ sg cloak, walking stick)
- Admiral Ackbar w/ Home 1 Tactical plot of Endor & Death Star 2 (SA)

- AT-ST - NEW SCULPT!  Make one that fits the 2 drivers (and even Chewbacca) and stands taller.  Pack in Chewbacca & 2 Ewoks
- A-Wing - blue concept art version w/ Pilot

***EDIT - I think I'm going to do a PT wave as well.  This will be Attack Of The Clones / Clone Wars

01 - Obi-Wan Kenobi (SA w/ sg cloak, lightsaber & regular hilt & arena battle hilt)
02 - Clone Trooper - Kamino mess hall red fatigues
03 - Jango Fett (SA w/ removable helmet, both rocket packs, poncho from cut scene)
04 - Joclad Danva - Jedi Knight w/ 2 lightsabers
05 - Senator Padme Amidala - Return to Naboo
06 - IG Lancer Droid
07 - Roron Corob - Ithorian Jedi Knight
08 - Magna Guard Droid - SA w/ sg cloak
09 - Saesee Tiin - Battle of Coruscant space armor
10 - Clone Trooper - ARC Trooper Pilot from space whale Gunship

-Obi-Wan Kenobi in Clone armor w/ speeder bike (SA w/ sg cloak, removable helmet, lightsaber, lance)
-Geonosian Warrior w/ Sonic Cannon

-Jedi Delta 7 Starfighter w/ hyperdrive ring
-Commerce Guild Tank Droid

I dig the rink.  But why did they have to pollute it with all of those Dead Wings and Maple Leafs?

Saga Collection '06 / Re: The "Final 22"
« on: November 14, 2006, 11:14 PM »
It's definitely a little weird to see Yarael Poof with that lightsaber.  But I guess that was one of the few hilts that worked with the way the hand is sculpted.

The Padme looks cool, definitely.  I thought that the Droid Factory Chase version of this figure was one of the better offerings of the original Saga line.  I'd actually like to see it with a chain accessory, but that's just a picking point.

As for the Obi-Wan hologram, it's still a head-scratcher to me.  I can only recall Obi-Wan as a hologram from a distance, as Yoda is meeting with the Jedi Council from Kashyyyk.  It seems that Hasbro was at a loss, too, because the background on the cardback is from the Jedi Temple briefing room where Anakin meets with Obi-Wan.  Anyway, I think it would have made much more sense to do a holographic Anakin Skywalker (possibly the ROTS #28 figure) and call it Darth Vader - Jedi Temple Attack hologram or somesuch thing.

Saga Collection '06 / Re: Battle of Naboo Wave
« on: November 14, 2006, 11:08 PM »
Here's something I was surprised to see at a store today.  All of the Naboo wave sold out except for the Naboo Soldier.  And there were quite a few of those left hanging on the pegs.  Strange.

Gentle Giant / Re: Clone Wars Maquettes Yoda
« on: November 14, 2006, 11:03 PM »
Strange.  I put my order in through my comic shop (Diamond distribution), and I got my Leia with R2 this past Wednesday.

But then Diamond may have dropped the ball on the Boba Fett.  I heard that they were sold out on the pre-orders for the Boba Fett maquette.

As for the rest of this line?  I'm giving up on it after my current pre-orders are fulfilled.  I'm ordered up through the Stormtrooper and after that there's got to be a damn good offering from this line for me to buy anything beyond that.  Hell, I don't really like the Luke all that much and I may just sell that one off.
