Are the pins really vac-metalized though or just colored properly by cast in a similar color plastic with like a metallic tinge to it?

They look "cast in a similar color plastic with like a metallic tinge" to me... not quite vac-metal, but close enough in appearance so as not to distract like the unpainted version.

And just because something is rare today doesn't mean SWS isn't going to mass-market them at C4 to make a quick $1000.

So, you're saying I should eBay my shirt sooner rather than later?   ???

I hope it gets back from AFA in time to cash in...

In one of he QnA questions last week, Hasbro pretty much confirmed that these "basic" Battle Packs would be all re-packs for the kids, while the "Exclusive" Battle Packs will be collector-oriented.

From www.FFURG.com:

Quote
FFURG:  Along the same line as above, what about a ROJ Rebel Briefing with SAGA General Madine, Mon Mothma (new using the ROTS sculpt), (retooled) Admiral Ackbar, and SAGA General Calrissian with a hologram Death Star II?

Hasbro:  Ahh - great question! The mainline, or national battle packs are designed with kids foremost in mind. That's why there are very few new, and they are more commonly themed repacks with a heavy concentration of recognizeable and cool kid characters along with a couple lesser known characters to complete the theme (Battle for Sarlacc being a prime example of this).

Now for exclusive battle packs, we take a different approach. We design these to be collector-targeted, knowing that if we strike the right chord they are something collectors will want to go to that retailer to find and ensure the sell-through at the retailer. This is why the exclusive battle packs have more of a troop building flavor to them. They are designed specifically to ensure that the packs will be able to sell through in a certain period of time.

That explains why these recently announced sets are all repacks, but the TRU Exclusive CW one and the Target Skirmish and Mace sets all have new figures, specifically new Clones.

In other words, don't be prepared to get excited about any Battle Packs unless they are exclusive...  ;)

The difference is really remarkable when you see them side-by-side.  The version that came in my EE case is the 2nd VacMetal joints version and it looks a LOT nicer than the first "ugly unpainted joints" version.   :)

On the topic of 3PO, he's turning out to be my favorite from this wave.  Great articulation in the legs and head, removable arms, the throne - really one of the nicest 3POs we've ever seen I think.

He's especially better than the Greatest Battles version out there on the pegs at the same time...  ::)

As for Leia, does anyone think this version is better than the carded plastic version?

I believe that the ROTJ Tin Leia is just a repaint of the Princess Leia Collection version...  if my memory serves me, it's not any better than the basic carded version.

And after seeing the ROTJ tin (with the Leia and Endor Trooper), I still stand firm in my belief that nothing pre-1999 should ever be repainted and re-released.   :P

30th Anniversary Collection / Re: 6 More EU 2-Packs
« on: August 11, 2006, 12:31 PM »
X-Wing
Corran Horn and Mirax Terrik
Iella Wessiri and Wes Janson

The only way I'll get really excited about these EU 2-packs is if they start plucking X-Wing Comic/Novel characters out.

I'd love to get some of those Rogue Squadron figures - this would be the perfect way to finally get a Hobbie or a Janson or a Tycho or any of those alien Rogue Squad pilots.

Saga Collection '06 / Re: George Lucas in Stormtrooper Disguise.
« on: August 11, 2006, 11:49 AM »
From Hasbro:

Quote
Due to the difficulty of finding vintage Scout Troopers, among others, at retail, we are relaxing the criteria that consumers send in one of each of the five vintage figures to complete the offer for the George Lucas in Stormtrooper disguise mail-in figure.  Effective immediately, consumers may send in five stickers from ANY mix of the five eligible figures.  Certificates completed as such will be honored. Thanks for spreading the word to the Star Wars collecting community!

Good news for those who have piles and piles of extra tabs... of course, you still need the proper form from X-Wing Luke though.   ::)

Would the flip up visor count as an extra point of articulation?   ???

Revenge of the Sith / Re: Target Figure with Cup Sets
« on: August 10, 2006, 01:08 PM »
I opened mine up... and now kind of wish I hadn't.

They look so great boxed, but outside the box they are just repack figures and a cup - not quite as nice a presentation.  :-\
