Vintage Kenner / Re: Help! I'm having collecting issues!

Your exactly where I was a few years ago.  I must admit, when I do find that hard-to-find Saga figure my first instinct is to grab it off the shelf, but then I remember that I'm not a completist post-95 collector anymore, and I have to tell myself to put it back. :-\  Still, I'm happy with how things turned out.

And don't think you have stop buying the new stuff entirely, just pick up what you really like or want to open, keep it fun.

good luck.

I'm still dawdling around in pursuit of my vintage Yak Face to complete my loose collection.  Then I'm going to look into the carded stuff.  My goal is exactly what Cecil above has put together - premier card, offerless, and in C-8.5+ condition with clear bubbles.  Gonna be a long and expensive journey on that one!

So what's the magic number now Cecil?  Last I recall, you were down to about four.  Who's left for you to finish the set off now?  Good luck with them!

Just like you, all I need is a Yak.  ;D

Congratulations!  Have any pics?  Are you going to go for POTF next?

I'm afraid I don't collect loose, but my own collection is getting pretty close to completion.

You know...after reading through this thread, I've found one common trait in everyone here. We all think we were really great at SF2.  :)

I run into a lot of people who feel this way. I mention that I love the game (and that I've got it) and they talk about how great they used to be at their local gas station or arcade....only to get the smackdown when they come and give it a try.  "I'm out of practice" is always the excuse.  ;D

On the other hand, Every once in awhile...someone comes by and schools me so bad that I feel like an amateur.

I think skill at this game is all relative to how good your competition was back when you were good at it.

I think the only well to REALLY tell is to have ourselves a little tourney sometime.  Someone want to bring their SNES to Comic Con?  Hehehe.

LOL, I was thinking the exact same thing.  It seems like everyone whupped everybody else's butt, so where are the losers?  We couldn't all be SFII Gods?, lol.  And what you said about us only being as good as our competition is spot on.  Like I said in my post, I was king of the dorm till someone from outside visited and spanked me like a monkey. ;D

Still, I think it's a testament to this game that we still all love it.  And also to the design, so many skilled players and notice that everybody was great with different players.  The game was so balanced that no one character was a killer, it just depended on the skill and practice of the player.

I'll bring my half-yellowed and beat up SNES if anyone wants.  I'll even bring the controllers, I think one out of about the 4 that I have owned is still in one piece. ;D  I didn't take defeat very well. ;)

Vintage Kenner / Re: TOO EXPENSIVE

There are TONS of inexpensive carded figures for sale all the time.  And if you only want to consider figures under $100 than that still leaves you with, IME, a good majority of figures that are bought and sold.  Take a look at my collection (website in sig).  I won't say exactly what I paid but I will say that the AVERAGE price I paid for each of the figures is between 50 and 100.  And I've been pretty picky over the years.  And don't get me wrong, it's been ALOT of work, patience, research, and occasionally risk taking.

As long as your standards aren't ridiculously high it sounds like you could build a fantastic collection.

Great topic!

I only played video games with my highschool/college chums at home, not many arcades around.

SFII changed ALOT when it went to SFII Turbo for the SNES.  In college I ruled the dorms with Chun Li in SFII,  I would be bouncing off the wall and heel stomping so many heads that noone ever had a chance.  But Guile was more fun, I was ALWAYS charging and with that backhand punch I murdered.  I will admit that my Chun Li was put horrendously to shame by a visitor to the dorm once.... cheap Dhalsim player.  Then SFII Turbo (the best version IMO) came out and everything changed.  Since then I have been a devoted Ryu expert.  I can still pull that game out of the closet and beat the quest on 7-star difficulty without losing a player, no matter how cheap the computer plays M. Bison.

Not as big a fan of MK.  Usually I played as Scorpion.  Anyone remember how the SNES version was cleaned up but had superior graphics, whereas you could enable all the blood on the Genesis but it still looked like crap.... yeah, I bought the Genesis version and never looked back.  As for funny moves Johnny Cage's crotch-punch was the best, it didn't even do much damage so it was like double insulting when you played it.  For fatalities I always liked the ones that were level based, nothing beats seeing your opponent fall 200 feet onto a bed of spikes. :o

One of my favorites!  Only problem is I can't find it on anymore.  My favorite line from the show is "Take me to the weasels!".  And Grr is one of the best characters, love him. ;D

All right, you got me.  It's really just me, jedicecil with a truncated name.  (I don't really have a clone..... anymore. ;)).  I've always used jcecil on non-starwars boards to hide my, ummm, geekiness and thought it was time to settle on one name.  Oh, and get this, can you believe that there is already a "jcecil" registered ebay member!?!?!  I mean what are the chances?, looking at his feedback he/she's had like 10 buys in 6 years, that's barely enough to keep you a member.  Do you think it would be appropriate to ask him/her to change their name so that I can have it?, eh?  I mean I AM jcecil!... oh well, guess I'll have to come up with something different.

Thanks for the welcome guys, I hope I can be a worthwhile member. :D

Hello.  My name is jcecil.  I'm the evil clone of that incredibly bright, heroic, (and handsome) guy named jedicecil.  My plan is to destroy his reputation by doing nothing but trolling and boosting my hit count with innumerable trash posts and adding profanity to every sentance..... you b@$?@^&$!  HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!
