Picked up the UCS Snowspeeder and Hoth sets during the last double VIP points days.  Just waiting on the Falcon to be back in stock...

Star Wars Anthology / Re: Rogue One (SPOILER FREE)

I picked up the Target exclusive edition with the bonus disk.  Total run time was approximately 8 minutes and not worth the extra money at all.  The packaging is cool though and I like that I can change out the cover art.

I watched the standard bonus features and while it did give some insights into how the story came into being and some of the character development, I really felt like they were only skimming the surface.  Specifically when they were discussing how they brought Tarkin and Leia 'to life' in the film.  I think that they could have done a full disk just on this process alone.

I don't know if I've just become jaded by the depth of the Hobbit and LOTR bonus content and the ridiculous amount of detail they go into, or if it's really that there wasn't enough bonus content for RO.  But I really do feel that they could have gone into much more detail, especially as this was the first standalone film from LFL.

Excellent, I hadn't seen that, thanks.  Been holding off on the Hoth set for a double VIP sale.  I guess it's time...

TV-9D9 / Re: Star Wars Rebels - Season 3 (Spoilers)
« on: January 30, 2017, 09:03 PM »
My sons have been re-watching all of The Clone Wars seasons over the last few weekends and the thing that struck me the most was how the stories were able to develop over several episodes.  The story arcs were great and really kept you wanting to see what would happen in the next episode.  With Rebels, it just seems like they are trying too hard to wrap things up in single episodes week after week.  As if the producers feel that the viewing public is just too dumb to be able to remember what happened the week before.  This leads to poor character development, and episodes where things conveniently fall into place in order to wrap things up in 30 minutes.  I still watch every week, but I'm just really not as engaged as I was when TCW was in full swing...

Saw some deals over the weekend on Amazon for some remaining 2016 sets I hadn't picked up yet, so went ahead and got them.  Picked up Captain Rex's AT-TE, U-Wing Fighter, Krennic's Shuttle, and the Resistance X-Wing.  They were all 18%-25% off retail so I figured it was as good a time as any to buy.

Star Wars Anthology / Re: Rogue One (SPOILERS)
« on: December 19, 2016, 10:09 PM »
Finally got to see it today and am so glad that I stayed spoiler free on this one other than seeing the first trailer.  And as others have said, I was completely taken aback that almost all of the footage from said trailer was nixed from the final cut of the movie.

I absolutely loved that they were able to have Tarkin in as big a role as they did.  Can't wait to read about how that was done.  Also really loved a lot of the smaller cameos and nods like Red and Gold leaders, Leia, the blue milk and the Turbo Tank.  Missed every Rebels cameo with the exception of the Hammerhead, but will be paying better attention when I see it again on Friday.  And yes, it was awesome to see Vader's castle on Mustafar and his massacre of the troops at the end.  I thought the costume didn't look quite right as well.

Definitely a great start to the standalone films and a very welcomed addition to the SW Universe.

Hmmm, I only ended up getting 5 points with today's Freeform code.  Is there another one that gives you the other 20?

Ended up getting the Clone Turbo Tank as I never bought the previous release(s), but I completely flaked out and missed the Revan figure.  Thankfully I just used VIP points to pay for it and it only cost me about $5.

The Sequel Trilogy / Re: Star Wars: The Force Awakens (SPOILERS)
« on: August 11, 2016, 08:04 AM »
I'll just watch the new deleted scenes on YouTube...

I couldn't agree more.  I gave in and bought all the original releases as well as the Special Editions when LOTR were released and said I would never do that again.  Just went the SE route with The Hobbit movies.  Unless they were releasing a SE with 30 more minutes of footage added, I'm not bothering to buy this.  I'll see the deleted stuff eventually.

I'm worried we'll still see Ward again.  There's the matter of that Kree artifact he dug up - the "only thing" that can destroy him.  That seems like a pretty major plot point to just leave out there hanging.  I don't think we were ever told what happened to it.

There was an article that came out right after the episode where Jed Whedon wouldn't comment on whether Ward would be back or not.  I'm with you that I think he somehow shows up again.  I just hope for our sake it's in flashbacks or something like that.  I just grew really tired of seeing him after Season 1.

I was also finally able to get out and see it yesterday.  Definitely not my favorite (Winter Soldier), but definitely up near the top 5.  Thought the plot, action, humor, suspense, etc. were all a good mix.  Really liking what the Russo's are doing when they are at the helm and looking forward to what Infinity War has to offer.

The highlight for me was definitely Spiderman - how he was used in the conflict, how he was portrayed by Tom Holland, how Tony Stark designed and gave him his costume...  Really looking forward to the new movie and more Aunt May!

My only gripe, and this is definitely personal, was the opening action scenes.  I've never been a fan of the in-your-face fight scenes and on-foot chases.  I think this is why to this day I've never watched another Hunger Games movie.  I could never get past the first one and the running/fighting sequences.  The opening scenes in this movie reminded me a lot about that film and just didn't do it for me.  I thought that the end fight was much easier to watch and still gave me the level of suspense and realism that I needed without having to be right on top of the action.

Favorite lines - Bucky: You couldn't have done that earlier (after Falcon gets rid of Spiderman).  Falcon: I hate you.

My kids are crushed.  They love playing those games.  We still have our Wii hooked up so they can play the 1.0 version.  Thankfully all they still need is the Black Panther figure for 3.0 to have all of the characters, so it shouldn't be too hard to get a hold of.

Kubricks / Re: Recent Acquisitions
« on: April 18, 2016, 08:59 PM »

Your post just reminds me how bummed I am that we didn't get a TFA series.  Would have been so perfect: Basic 6 = Finn, Rey, Poe, BB-8, FO Stormie, Kylo; Chases = Han (Rey box) and 'Ben' (Kylo Box); Super-Rare Chase = Phasma (FO Stormie box)

*sigh*  :(

My son was sitting at our island this morning looking at the Boba Fett figures and he said, 'Dad, why didn't they make any TFA figures?  It would be really cool to have a Kylo Ren!'

Do you hear that Medicom, my 11 year old wants a Kylo Ren figure (and maybe his father too)!

Kubricks / Re: Recent Acquisitions

Met up with a friend who had just returned to the States after a three month rotation in Japan for his job.  While he was there I asked if he could find some of the remaining 'bricks I needed.  Although he wasn't able to find the ones I was looking for, he did manage to find the Medicom store so he bought me what they had in stock - General Grievous, Darth Vader, DX Luke, the Boba Fett Collection figures and the carded Emperor's Royal Guard.  No chase figures to report (didn't think there would be), but pretty cool to open up some Kubricks again!
