Watto's Junk Yard / Re: Top 5 Hotties

Just tested it, and it's working for me ... hmm, if somebody can explain how to resize it to thumbnail size, I'll give it a whirl (keep in mind that when it comes to computers, I consider myself functionally illiterate)

Other Toy Lines / Disney/Pixar CARS
« on: November 16, 2006, 05:51 PM »
Anybody else here collecting these things.  I remember when they first came out, I would pick them up, look at them, carry them around, but ultimately would just put them down.  For the longest time, I was able to resist.   Then recently a good friend of mine's son became very ill, and as a care-package I bought him some Cars toys, and thought "why not" and bought myself a couple.   Now I can't stop.   I finally completed getting the first 16 cars (Series 1 & 2), and I've been able to find a few of the Series 3 (Supercharged), but I'm still missing Dirt Track McQueen, Radiator Springs McQueen, Blue Mater, and Hamm.  I'm also still on the look for all the new Movie Moments 2-packs.

These things are great, and I'm really enjoying the hunt.   So anybody else out there into these things?

Gentle Giant / Re: Clone Wars Maquettes Yoda
« on: November 9, 2006, 07:36 PM »
I posted this over at GH, put I'll post it here too...

When the OT animated maquettes were first revealed by GG, that was the most excited I'd been about a Star Wars product in a very long time. I couldn't wait to start collecting this line (especially since I'm quickly losing interest in all Hasbro has to offer, but that's another thread). Anyway, I ordered the GG Animated Boba Fett Maquette through Entertainment Earth, placing the order way back on 6/10/06. They're a little pricey, but I've used them before without any problems.

I got a confirmation email from EE on 10/30 saying my Boba Fett had been shipped. The package arrived on 11/2. I thought the box on my porch seemed a little thin, but didn't worry too much. I wasn't able to open the shipping box until the next day. When I did, I found not my Boba Fett maquette inside but rather a framed film-cell from the movie Serenity and an invoice for some guy that lives in Connecticut. WTF! I live in Texas!

I checked the box again, and the shipping label had my information on it, but the items inside all coincided with the invoice inside. So my shipping label got put on some other guy's box, and I'm sure my Boba Fett is somewhere in CT.

Anyway, I sent an email to customer service, and received a reply that I needed to call them. I did that this a.m., and was told that they're all out of Boba Fetts and that they would refund my $$ as soon as I returned the film cell. I told the rep. (she was very helpful) that was unacceptable; I wanted my refund now. I will return the film cell, but I believe EE should refund my $$ simply due to their error -- I ordered a Boba Fett, my cc was charged for a Boba Fett, they no longer have any Boba Fetts, so give me back my money. After that very simple explanation, she emailed me a claim form that I have to mail back (well that's gonna cost me another $.39) to process the refund.

I had all the other maquettes on pre-order with EE, but this experience, coupled with their higher prices, finally convinced me to switch all my preorders over to RazorsEdge today. As soon as I get my refund I'll be cancelling all my orders with EE.

But now I'm left scrambling trying to find a Boba Fett maquette. RazorsEdge wasn't offering them anymore. I'll probably just end up using eBay, unless anybody else has a suggestion. Hmmm? Any help?

The most frustrating Internet game I've ever played

My best time is 9.203 seconds.

28.935 seconds

I don't see how anybody could average 60 seconds like it claims

Clone Wars '03-'05 / Re: Carded Clone Wars Wave 3
« on: September 25, 2006, 07:00 PM »
Actually, they were 4-per-case in the first box (two of each variant)...

Clone Wars Basic Figures Col. 1 Wave 14 (Item# HS84851R, $64.99):

Includes: 4x Clone Wars Clone Trooper, 4x Clone Wars Kit Fisto, and 4x Clone Wars Saesee Tiin.

Were they really 4-per-case?!  I never, and I mean never saw one of these at retail.  The local Wal-Mart never even got a case, that I could tell.  I only ever saw 1 Kit Fisto at retail at a TRU, and then a boat-load of Saesee Tiins at a K-Mart when the wife and I were visiting her parents in Houston.   Geez, how could I miss something that was 4-per-case?  That insults my status as a "collector"   :-[

This may be old news, but this set is out at retail now.  I just saw 4 or 5 of them at the Plano, TX, TRU this afternoon (along with 1 set of the new X-Wing Fighter).

Power of the Force 2 / Re: Mara Jade - what's she worth?
« on: August 17, 2006, 01:05 PM »
I got 2 each of the EU on clearance when TRU got the POTF2 stuff in back in 1999 or so.  So yes, they did hit [...]

They hit in the Dallas, TX, area, too.  I remember walking into a TRU around the lunch hour and finding an entire bin full of EU figures, priced for $2.98 each.   They looked like they had been picked over as about 80% of the figures were either Luke, Emperor, or Kyle; but I was able to score 2 each of the Dark Trooper and Spacetrooper, and an extra Mara (long since traded away).   This TRU was on the south side of Dallas, the notoriously bad side of town (according to local media, but really not bad at all), and that may be why the figures were still sitting there at noon.

Watto's Junk Yard / Re: Completist Collecting
« on: August 15, 2006, 11:18 AM »
Yes.  I completely know how you feel.  I constantly have to fight the completist compulsion.  I've had it strike on toy-lines that I don't really even enjoy.  For example, I've never understood the Hot Wheels collector; too much stuff to collect (yes I know, from a Star Wars collector, that's black kettle, black pot territory).  But, every now & then I'd pick one up that had some sort of personal reason behind it, i.e., my late grandfather used to drive one of these pick-ups and now Mattel made a small die-cast version ... so I buy it.  Then I notice that it just happens to be car #3 in a 12 car series, so I go out and buy the other 11 in the series.  And why!?  I don't know.

I'm able to resist it much better these days, probably comes with the maturing process, but every now and then I still feel it.  I don't know this for certain, but the compulsion is probably very similar to OCD or the psychological addiction that a lot of people feel (not the physical, mind you) about things they repetitively do without knowing why they do it.  This does not apply to those who decided to be completists, think Sansweet, but to those who are completists because they can't stop themselves, they're compelled to buy the next figure, vehicle, playset, Mpire, plushy, etc..., even though if they really examined themselves they'd realize they don't really need, or want it.

Power of the Force 2 / Re: Luke Skywalker (Stormtrooper Disguise)
« on: August 11, 2006, 10:45 PM »
Hey guys, thank you so much for all the answers, but I guess I should've been more specific.   Though I do have the other figures that were mentioned, I'm not too concerned with all the versions made of Luke, the character, in a Stormtrooper outfit.  I'm actually just curious about the variations, if any more exist, on the carded figure that was released in the standard POTF2 figure line.

Thank you for all the input, though.

Power of the Force 2 / Luke Skywalker (Stormtrooper Disguise)
« on: August 10, 2006, 01:11 AM »
Hey, I'm a new poster here... been visiting & reading for awhile and this is a very informative site.   I've been collecting Star Wars since '78 (really playing with my figures back then) and when the POTF2 line started in '95 I jumped on at the beginning.

I have every figure, and used to have each figure on each major card variation out there (meaning if the figure came on a red card, green card, FF card, different Collection # then I had each one) but I sold off most of them a couple years ago keeping only one carded sample per figure, except for my Luke Skywalker in Stormtrooper Disguise figures.  I decided this would be the one figure I'd keep each carded sample I had.  No monetary or financial reasoning behind it, I picked this figure simply because it was produced on the first 3 POTF2 card-types, and it's a cool figure. So far I have:

  • Red Card, Col. 2, Rectangular bubble
  • Green Card, Col. 1, Rectangular bubble, with Foil
  • Green Card, Col. 1, SUB, with Foil
  • Green Card, Col. 2, Rectangular bubble, with Foil
  • Green Card, Col. 2, Rectangular bubble, no Foil
  • FF Card, Col. 1, SUB, "Saelt-Marie" error
  • FF Card, Col. 1, SUB, "Saelt-Marae" correction

Does anybody know of any other card or bubble variations, or perhaps figure variation?  The obvious card variations would be no Foil versions of the Green Card, Col. 1.  These would be easy enough to obtain, just purchase and peel off the Foil.  But, was a Green Card, Col. 2 version ever released on a SUB; or was a Red Card ever released with Foil and been date stamp verified?
