Well, looks like the Laker offseason fallout may have begun:

Phil Leaves

Shaq Might Be Too

Also, Kobe is officially a free agent now, and in other news T-Mac has told the Magic he wants out as well.  The crazy summer begins!

Kubricks / Series 2
« on: June 18, 2004, 11:40 PM »
Ok, I've really been holding off on these since they are tougher to get here in the US, but after weeks and months of reading through the Kubrick thread here, and now seeing these pictures, I'm really getting tempted.  I realize that I'm too far behind (and it would be too expensive) to totally "catch up", but I wouldn't mind starting to get a few of these (without the chases obviously).  Other than the early bird set and chase figures, can most of these be bought at somewhat reasonable prices?  I still might just try to hunt me down the first Han that was released, just to see what they are like.  If nothing else, he's my favorite character, and it doesn't hurt to have one (or does it....addiction rising.. ;)).  Great pics by the way, this line sure looks spiffy.

Not exactly "Marvel Legends" figure news, but for those who are interested...Marvel.com updated their site to a new look today, and if you visit their biographies section, it has been revamped as well....kind of neat.  Sorry a bit off topic, but thought some of you might be interested.

Yeah, I kind of thought of that as well....we didn't see packaging captions, etc. so kiddified in the POTJ days that I remember.

I think it would be really nice to have a good comic version of MJ as well.  It is nice that we have the Spidey Classics line for stuff like this, but hopefully they will start releasing a few more bad guys, and big supporting characters like MJ, instead of a thousand different Spidey variations.  I realize there will and probably has to be some sort of Spidey in every wave, but the rest could be baddies and other characters.

I saw that earlier as well, and thought the little pack in booklet was kind of neat too.  I especially liked the "good vs. evil" thing they did, having brief descriptions of a number of key characters.  It seems kind of "kiddie", which it is likely supposed to be, but it is also nostalgic in a way too.  I like it.

Yeah, I'm glad KG is under contract for awhile yet, and he seems to be "at home" in Minnesota now too.  I would think Spree would stick around too, he's in a good situation and things nearly worked out to get to the Finals this year.  I actually posted the question to David Aldridge in chat today who would be the favorites, and he named Minny out West (and maybe San Antonio), as well as Detroit and Indiana in the East (obviously).

I have also ready what you have been hearing, that the Wolves should be after Erick Dampier.  He might be looking for too much $, since the Warriors can pay him more, so that might not happen.  Wally World seems to always be on the block...but if they got the #3 and Antonio Davis might not be too bad...could bring some decent young talent in.  I don't mind Wally though, sometimes it seems like he wants to shoot too much, but he sure did well every so often in the playoffs and is still fairly young (Spree and Sammy aren't getting any younger).

I'm with the Kobe to the east scenarios too, although I'd just like to see him and Shaq on different teams regardless of where it is.  I'm not sure what Kobe wants...he could obviously have a great chance at a championship right away in San Antonio, but he'd be a 1-2 combo again, and from what we consistently hear he wants to have "his team".  In that scenario he'd be better off going somewhere like the Clips or Phoenix, where he would be the main man with other supporting cast.  It will be interesting to see what he decides....and if he is able to play next year at all.  They said on ESPN this morning that the trial could be until November so he could miss the first month of the season at least the way it is.

Well, with the champions now crowned and the season months away, the news now is offseason changes.  We have the drafts (expansion and regular) coming up in the next week or so, as well as free agency period on the horizon.

To start things off, I read some rumors over at ESPN in their chats (David Aldridge and Chad Ford today), that there are very strong rumors that Tracy McGrady is going to be traded.  A couple of scenarios mentioned included Phoenix (for Marion, Jacobsen and/or Johnson, #7 pick) as well as Indiana (Harrington, Bender, and someone else...Walsh has said anyone is available other than J O'Neal).  There was also talk that the Sonics will most likely trade Ray Allen at some point too.  This, coupled with the Lakers that might be on the open market again, could make for one wild offseason.  There was also rumor that the Spurs might let Malik Rose walk to another team to free up enough space to make Kobe a max offer.  The landscape of the league could once again be shaken up big time by the start of the season.  Any rumors, news, suggestions of what you'd like to see happen....feel free to post!  Although the player movement is exciting, it does make me long for the days when players stayed with the same team a little more often.  I remember one of the biggest trades of the NBA when I was growing up was Barkley going from the Sixers to the Suns....that was fairly rare, it seems to happen a bit more often now (as well as free agency movement).  Ah well, it should make for an exciting offseason at least...and a good shakeup might make things interesting.  As long as KG stays on the Wolves, I'll be ok :P.

SuperHeroHype.com has a possible look at what The Thing might look at in the upcoming Fantastic Four movie.  Now this isn't for sure, but I just thought I'd pass it along for conversation's sake.  You can check it out here:

I'll have to keep an eye out now that the Black Costume Spidey/Rhino series is hitting.  Out of curiosity (I got into Spidey figs a little late), they haven't actually done an "Ultimate Spider-man" Spidey yet have they?  Now with this Ultimate Rhino coming out, and I believe and Ultimate Lizard coming up, I was wondering if they had actually done Spidey yet.  That's a figure I wouldn't mind seeing done.

Original Trilogy Collection / Re: Jedi Council sets 3 & 4
« on: June 16, 2004, 03:37 PM »
Just noticed that apparently Hasbro posted a "Q and A Update" this past Monday.  They only answer two questions, one about 12" and one about the Jedi Council sets.  You can view them at this link:

Hasbro June 14 Q and A

Here's what was asked/answered:

Star Wars Q & A for the week of June 14, 2004

Q: I haven’t seen many 12” figures at retail.  Were they cancelled?

A: No! As a matter of fact, as part of our Original Trilogy Collection, three 12" figures will be available at most fine retailers this fall in vintage style packaging: Luke Skywalker, Boba Fett, and Stormtrooper.  Check out the Republic News postings from Feb 13 and May 12, 2004 for more details.

Q: What are the names of the figures included in sets 3 and 4 of the Jedi Council Scene Packs?

A: Set 3 will include Stass Allie, Agen Kolar, and Shaak Ti. Set 4 will include Saesee Tiin, Adi Gallia, and Anakin Skywalker. Both scenes will be available this fall exclusively at Toys R Us.

I read (while lurking at RS) that some people are getting "processing" or "pending" on their VOTC (1st wave) orders from places like EE and Kebco, has anyone here gotten that as well?  Hopefully these will start showing up/shipping soon.

The new alignment should be interesting, thanks for posting all the divisions Scott.  Poor New Orleans, what a division to move into...first of all going to the West, and then in the same division as Dallas, Houston, San Antonio, and Memphis?  Ouch.  This could really be an interesting off-season (and season) now, with some of the Laker mystique broken, San Antonio getting knocked out earlier than expected, and more parity than maybe people thought in the league.  The Pistons win at least shows that the East has a chance, and maybe isn't quite as far behind the West as it once was (although I think the Pistons are MUCH better than the majority of the Eastern Conference).  The Draft should be interesting as well, tougher to pick this year, not very many "sure things".
