Watto's Junk Yard / Re: Snow!
« on: December 21, 2004, 02:22 AM »
Holy ****! You have to be kidding me! The wind just picked up like crazy & a storm is coming in.

Damn Albertans, always sending their **** our way.  Next time it storms, send us the nice gentle snow, but you can keep the freakin' 60km/hr winds, OK?   :P

At the peak today, it was -19oC, but with the wind chill is was a balmy -32oC.  But the week will improve until Boxing Day, when it's supposed to reach +6oC.  And on the 27th?  Projected high of -27oC.  WTF?!

When I'm posting, I'm at home.  Just using my 3 year old Dell that needs to be replaced this year (Doom 3 runs way too slow  ;D).  My desk is far from the stylish ones that are produced these days, but I absolutely love it.  It's a partner desk that is about 50 years old - it's just about indestructible.  Solid wood - they don't make 'em this way anymore!

I'd love to be posting while I was at work, but my bastard employers won't give us lowly staff pharmacists internet access, just the managers.  Bah!

Watto's Junk Yard / Re: McFarlane is Bankrupt
« on: December 21, 2004, 02:01 AM »
Sure, McFarlane is a bit of a spoiled brat, but awarding Twist $15 mil is a crock of ****.  Simple as that.  How this case wasn't laughed out of court by the judge is beyond me.   >:(

The Naboo battle(s) are the worst though, as Anakin miraculously pilots a fighter, and dumb luck finds him destroying the TF's ship.  I cry BS on that one...  Either have the kid more in control of the ship and displaying actual SKILL and ability rather than luck, or have him simply not be a part of the conflict really beyond maybe helping knock out some fighters who are after the REAL heroes (God forbid we develope Ric Olie into a deep character who is the one that takes out the TF ship ala an old Wedge ANtilles).

Truer words were never said.  As annoying as Jar Jar was, I could tolerate him.  But when Anakin basically wins the entire Naboo battle BY COMPLETE FLUKE, I was seriously pissed.  You could say: the force guided him to destroy the power in the control ship.  Well then at least make it appear that he felt the force guiding him, rather than just randomly shooting.  So he accidentally destroys the ship, which shuts down the battle droids, which wins the Battle of Naboo.  All Fluke.  **** off, give us something more intelligent to work with Lucas.  The presence of a believable climaxing battle is the number one reason I like AOTC better than TPM.

And OK, so Jar Jar is there for comedic relief so that the kids can laugh.  Hey, I laughed at him a few times too.  (Let the flames fly).  But I hate it when the blundering fool can continually destroy battle droid after battle droid.  OK, once is funny, but again and again - it gets old in a big hurry.

The biggest drawback to the prequels?  Emotion.  In TPM, there is rarely any expressed, or when it is, it seems so forced that it's not believable.  In AOTC, Anakin's anger with Obi-Wan is what I expect to see, but Hayden manages to come off as too whiny rather than enraged.  I sure hope he can improve on his ability to project this rage in ROTS.   :-[

Other Collectibles / Re: Collecting 'To Do' Lists!
« on: December 21, 2004, 01:03 AM »
Okay.  2005 is going to be the year that I actually finish some of my frickin' collections.  It'll be tricky with so much ROTS coming out too, but I'm determined to get them done.  This is going to be a long and ugly list, but I think that if I see it up here it'll keep me motivated to complete the collections!

Other Collectibles / Re: Question about Shepperton helmets.
« on: December 20, 2004, 03:36 AM »
According to their website:  (SDS Props)

"In 1976...Andrew Ainsworth and Shepperton Design Studios created the original helmets and armour for the greatest sci-fi fantasy film of all time.

Now, almost 30 years on and for the FIRST time ever, YOU can own an exclusive 1:1 collectable replica of the original movie helmets.

Made by the original prop-maker
From the original moulds.

Produced and endorsed by Andrew Ainsworth at Shepperton Design Studio's, these unique props offer collectors a rare opportunity of owning some of the most iconic designs of modern cinema."

Despite this acclaim, I can't find anywhere on the site that actually says they are LICENSED (although, I've always just assumed they were).

That other website  :P is supposed to have a review here, but the website is down at this moment.

That was just, bizarre.  It's like driving by a car accident, you want to look away, but just have to keep watching.

Vader statue for cheap?

Well, whaddya think?  Seller has 50 at $149.99.  Not bad, save $50 (25%) but it's a long time away :-\  Too risky or a good deal?  Only a deposit is required, so even if they bugger off, you're not out the full amount.  Seems interesting to me.

Ooo, very tempting.  2947 feedbacks, with 100% positive.  It certainly appears that he's on the up and up.  And it may be worth $20 plus shipping to save $50.  Very tempting.

« on: December 19, 2004, 02:39 AM »
We've got a bit of a yo-yo going on here too.  +2C on Friday, -11C on Saturday, then calling for +6C on Sunday.  Bizarre.  I actually don't want it to be +6C, I don't want to lose our snow!  It needs to be here for Christmas.  :-[

Oh, man, do I understand.  It seems that everyone has some advice, whether it's wanted or not, about taking care of babies.  Unfortunately, it will keep coming and coming, and often from the strangest places.  It never fails to baffle me how people that DON'T HAVE KIDS suddenly have advice for you when you have a baby - what the hell do they know?   >:(

On the topic of babies, one of my biggest pet peeves from when my daughter was in diapers:  restaurants that don't have change tables in the washrooms.  The last place I want to put my baby is on the floor of a washroom - who knows what's been on that floor.   :(

I'm not picky, real or fake, I like em all.   :D

Let's just say I have a weakness for that attribute on the female body.  Mmmm...

Any chance of picking it up for less than $200?  Not bloody likely?

Uh, I'm guessing not bloody likely.  But I sure wish they'd give us some more pics to see if this Darth Vader statue is even worth that.  So far the pics are pretty obscure.
