Monthly Customizing Challenge - Month 6 - BLUE HARVEST
« Reply #690 on: September 29, 2005, 08:10 PM »
Title says it all... if you want to see previous submissions, simply click

HERE FOR PAST MONTHS

As Ryan points out in that thread, while the Lucasfilm team was shooting RETURN OF THE JEDI in 1982, they called the film BLUE HARVEST.  They had camera slates, invoices, hotel reservations, call sheets, production reports, and crew hats and T-shirts all read Blue Harvest.  When any visitors would ask what film they were shooting, the crew said "BLUE HARVEST," and they went on their way.  It was a great trick to keep people at the time from being all over the final film in the Original Trilogy.  It kept some element of surprise for the public as to what would happen inthe final film - much more of a spoiler free time.

For this month, there is a ton of freedom on what you can create.  Want to make a scary looking figure?  Go for it.  A version of yourself in a Halloween costume?  That sounds great too!  A Lucasfilm worker in a t-shirt that says BLUE HARVEST on it?  Heck, why not?

So, starting in October, the Monthly Customizing Challenge will focus on BLUE HARVEST - HORROR BEYOND IMAGINATION.  Deadline is October 31.

Whoa!  Is that a Gungan base for the head?  Looks like a cross between a lizard and Jar Jar kinda!  And are those Tessek's hands?

It's off to a good start.  I would suggest painting the entire figure, and make his skin tone just a little more dull if you can.  And then a nice wash/dry brush and I think you have a mean looking Bounty Hunter/Terrorist.

Holy Hannah! That is one creative looking alien. This thing has great potential.

Agreed. I think a dulled skin tgone would look even better and I'd fix the eyes up a bbit, the right eye's pupil is a little smaller than the left. The POTF2 paint job on the body is rather plain and boring, a wash would really improve the look and help to tie it in with the rest of the figure. I look forward to seeing this one finished. :)

Yep, Capt. Tarpals head and vintage Squidhead hands along with a PotF2 Skiff Lando Body.

So far, I changed the shade of green for this guy and finished his legs.  I still want to go back and touch up the torso and possibly the boots.  Here is an updated WiP:

Just a bit more painting to do and you'll all get to hear the story of Torpas P'hil, one of the most dangerous Salamandro Bounty Hunters to ever work for Jabba the Hutt.   ;)

:D The expression on his face is priceless! I can see this guy as a bounty hunter in the old Marvel comics series. Maybe a little dry brushing on the skin will soften it. Right now, its seems to be a little intense.

*Rotav Vator* - what a cool bunch of ne'er-do-wells you have there!  They look pretty cool, it's too bad a lot of the detail is lost in the blurry pics  :-\
Still, the blurriness of the pic kind of makes it look like it was taken from some sort of covert spy droid or something  ;)

Jeff - awesome custom!  The parts look very cool together and I definitely like the updated paintjob.  Is the "salamandro" species real or did you make it up?  Either way it's definitely cool and something that I had never heard of before.  Nice work!

Exciting!
I love that graphic CHEWIE.  Hopefully I'll be able to get around to doing this one; I feel bad because I completely missed the Self-Custom "challenge"  :-[

Cool work there - my favorite is definitely the guy in the white hat.  He looks like the tough guy out of the bunch!  The one with the AT-ST helmet looks nice too!

Glad you like the graphic, I think it's probably the most evil looking image from any Star Wars movie and a bit scary.  Hope you can participate this month too, I know that I'm planning on having 5-6 figures for this one if my schedule allows it.

Holy crap, those all look much better than I had initially thought!
I love the Ozzel/Antilles guy, but they're all great!
Excellent weathering on the lot - they look like they've seen some hardcore action  ;D

Yah, I like the guy in the white hat too. It looks like he's been in the bush way too long. I like the Ozzel guy too. It's like he is leftover RAF british general from wwI.

Thanks ya'll, these were the results of trying out a new washing technique. Glad it seems to have done well.

Good call! The British uniforms from The Great War were actually the inspiration for this guy.
