I don't think it's that.  I think bar owners just wanted cheaper entertainment.

Some yes, some no.

I'm in a much, much smaller market than you, but from what I've learned from the bar owners/managers I know is that a given concept is good for about 3 years at most, regardless of what it is.  So it doesn't matter all that much to them what the concept is in most cases so long as it brings people in and they make money.  If they can stretch it out to five years, they're laughing.

I'd agree with ruiner to a degree, live bands seem to be in a down phase, at least locally.  Hip hop and dance is all the rage for the moment (or has been forever in various incarnations) in the more popular meat markets.  Most of the GH/RB stuff around here tends to be earlier in the week when the crowds aren't really out all that much anyway.  But maybe that's just around here.

Regardless I think if you look at it from the positive side, most people understand this is entertainment and if it gets kids playing for real, so much the better.  Like all video games, the connection to reality is tenuous at best.  I'm sure the majority of COD players don't have any real illusions of storming a beach head or something like that.  If they do, they've entered into the dillusional side of things.

As for the Maiden stuff, I guess I'll go track down the Wii version but I don't have hardware for that yet.  Trying to wait out the inevitable slash to 50% that should come at the end of summer or so.

Guitar Hero is killing live music!

False.  Guitar Hero is the mechanical bull of the 2000's.

Scott Glenn rocks.

And is David Carradine's long lost brother (think Nick Nolte and Gary Busey).

Nice analogy.

Nice analogy.

Thanks, but it needs some work; Debra Winger wouldn't have looked nearly as sexy rockin' a plastic Les Paul, for example.

The music-game release date calendar for the rest of the year (start saving up):

Guitar Hero: Smash Hits (June 16)
Guitar Hero 5 (September 1)
The Beatles: Rock Band (September 9)
DJ Hero (October 27)
Lego Rock Band (November 8 )
Band Hero (November 17)
Guitar Hero: Van Halen (?)

And some random news:

GH: World Tour songs and DLC exportable into GH 5

Guitar Hero: Van Halen is gonna suck balls

Beatles RB will be totally incompatible with rest of the RB franchise, will have it's own downloadable content, however.  "All You Need Is Love" and full Abbey Road album available shortly after launch, other albums presumably to follow.

That's a huge list.   :o  I also agree about Frampton, I'm looking forward to that.  Probably half the songs in there I don't know, but I appreciate they do that as it is a good avenue to expose folks to music they are unfamiliar with.

Was the Maiden track pack only released on line?  Still haven't picked up any hardware for the Wii, so haven't bothered to go looking that way.  Will get the hardware when they drop the price for RB2, I assume in the fall.

Yes it is, and apparently you'll be able to import all the tracks from GH: World Tour into it as well.

Was the Maiden track pack only released on line?

Yes.  Downloadable only.

I think I've been reading this wrong, this whole time.  Apparently it's just the downloadable stuff from World Tour and not the songs on the actual disc.

I don't have any downloadable songs for World Tour outside of the free ones, so this is a bummer, man.

Finally beat GH1 on hard tonight.  3 songs left on expert and then it's done.

GH2 is done on hard; GH3 has four songs remaining on hard  ::)
