I've seen some places here in the LA area where it's even higher.  I just came back from Phoenix, AZ, and the gas prices are $0.40 lower per gallon.  There's got to be some gouging going around here.  What's the deal?

Well, it doesn't explain the whole 40 cents, but over half of it is due to Arizona's lower taxes (see chart).  Maybe the rest is the cost of the special CA blend :).

All I say is OOC (Out of Control)!  I just filled up at $3.06 for regular!  I've seen some places here in the LA area where it's even higher...

Heck, $3.06 is pretty good now, King!  I drove all over the Valley in L.A. today for a good 5 hours, and the best I saw was $3.05.  Most places were in the $3.15 - $3.35 range.  Even last weekend when I went up and down the Ventura/Oxnard area, the cheapest I saw was $3.05, and Oxnard is ghetto and should be cheap(er).  It's gone up nearly a buck now in just the past month and a half around here.  I recall filling up for "dirt cheap" in late January for about $2.35, at our favorite stop off the 5 fwy.  Criminals...

And yeah, it's always annoying when I cruise out to Scottsdale to visit the folks, and see the AZ prices a good $.30 - $.50 cheaper per gallon than us here in CA.  Of course, we've got some extra environmental taxes added into our prices, since there's (supposedly) special environmental additives added into the gas in California.  ::)

...(see chart).

Ah, yes.  Max's chart illustrates exactly that, or at least 21 cents of it.  Surprising to see a couple states back east even a little higher than us on the taxes, though their net cost per gallon is still lower.

I paid $2.39 the last two times I filled up.

I'm sure it will climb its way to $3.00 (national) then Congress will start making noise, then it will drop back down to $2.00 and on and on.

Daylight savings is to blame for the gas hike. More daylight is causing more people to be out which causes more demand. At least that what my local news just reported.

So here's the theory: Soilders in Iraq+Iran taking Brits Hostage+daylight savings-groundhog not seeing its shadow+local gas tax=2.69 for regular unleaded.

For those that are paying $3+ for gas has your gallon of Milk price also reached $3?

This weekend it was $2.59 - 2.70 in MN. Could be worse. Could be a lot worse.

Yikes.  That's the point at which I'd move or start taking the bus.

My girlfriend and I fill up once a week and I constantly feel like it's too frequent.
