I'll wait UNTIL I have seen what good ole Hasbro has in mind before I come to any conclusion but personally as it stands I think the idea stinks and have no interest in this at all.My thoughts pretty much shadow what Jesse and Matt have already said in its entirety.

Will it degrade the almighty vintage line and its elite followers in anyway? I dont think so. ::) I see it as a simple gimmick to boost sales of which I have no interest to take part in.

Well, I love my Vintage... but on the other hand for the most part I love my New ones too.  If they make figures that should of been  made that never where in the OT then that maybe cool.  But as for as makeing re-issues of Figures that have already been made I am againt it.  I was really upset when they did that to MOTU, kinda made me feel like nothing is sacred and to this day I still see those MOTU Figures Hanging in Wal-marts and Toys R Us and everytime I turn around I see differant ones showing up.  Then I look at the ones I have and they are a copy of the Vintage in almost everyway.

It wasn't directed at you Valtar at all...it was like Jesse said.  A backlash at the "modern collectors" don't belong in the Vintage section posting about modern reporductions of modern figures

Got ya, OCB.   As for that, if they do happen to make these... I dont know if they would belong in the Vintage area or Modern,  they may need a new area just for them.   If you think about it they would only be done in vintage style they would still not be Vintage.  But still, I agree with everyone who has said it will be intresting to see where all of this goes.

I only pray that Hasbro does not try and ruin our Vintage Line with a bunch of repros. Thats my Main concern.

I agree with Jesse that consistency is Hasbro's biggest blindspot in the modern line.  Whether it's articulation or sculpting, the pendulum swings too much for many of us.

So RS has purportedly gotten a little more info on the matter, and is now saying there will be 12 figures in all - which could be a pretty cool nod to the original line to have them released as a complete, yet all new, set of "12-backs" again.  Supposedly there's going to be four figures from each movie.  They also mention 3 new 12" figures, likely to include a Luke and Boba Fett.  So, any guesses/hopes as to what we might see?  And don't you dare put anything from the Special Editions in this list!   ;)

Here's mine:

ANH:
1. Grand Moff Tarkin
2. Rebel Fleet Trooper
3. Stormtrooper Han Solo
4. Cantina Band Member

ESB: (this movie was covered pretty well by Kenner)
1. Removable Helmet Darth Vader
2. Dagobah Luke
3. Admiral Piett
4. Spirit of Obi-Wan
5. Hoth Han (Brown coat)   :P

ROTJ:
1. Slave Leia
2. Oola
3. Mon Mothma
4. Wedge Antilles Pilot

But for the most part, it was really ANH that got that shaft by Kenner, so I'd almost prefer to see all 12 come from that flick alone (aside for the Slave Leia).  Here'd be my ANH 12-back assortment:

1. Grand Moff Tarkin
2. Rebel Fleet Trooper
3. Stormtrooper Han Solo
4. Cantina Band Member
5. Sandtrooper (Orange Pauldron)
6. Uncle Owen
7. Aunt Beru
8. Garindan
9. Dr. Evazan
10. Wuher
11. Biggs Pilot
12. Ceremonial Luke
---------------------------
12a. Admiral Motti
12b. Porkins
12c. Any one of the unmade Cantina aliens

Kind of a bummer to see the two sequels getting equal representation to ANH, when it's ANH that is in the most need of new figures.  Oh well.

On a seperate note, it doesn't sound like this could be at all related to the 12 rumored vintage Burger King glasses, but at 4 per movie, you've got to wonder...  But I seem to recall some Prequel characters being mentioned with those...  They're probably both just seperate pieces of the same OT on DVD marketing campaign though.  I wonder what else is in store for that...   8)

I too would love figures that never were made initially, but I guarantee that Hasbro will just rerelease existing vintage sculpts.  For one, young and old will buy them.  If they were figures that never were made first time around, then mostly older collectors will buy them, thus smaller sales. Something  Hasbro will defintely not let happen.

I thought about the Glass angle too Matt, the Glasses, HOF and now these Vintage things all mentioned 12 figures.  A tad bit confusing I guess

Some of the reaction at Scum's vintage section is a bit snobbish...  The reactions to the announcement aren't the problem so much as the reactions of people who simply don't want to see "outsiders" enter their beloved vintage section.

They have a # there who seem to do nothing but look down on customizers and modern collectors (-Dane- in particular, whoever he is), and that's not cool.

Elitism in a hobby of nothing but "geeks & dorks" is like saying you're the best urinal cake in the entire men's room.

 ;D ;D ;D

I whole-heartedly agree with you JJ.   ;)

Personally, I'd very much like to see a short run of "new" vintage figures (i.e. vintage figs of new characters; Tarkin, Dr. Evazan, Duros, etc.).

I guess I need to see some picutures of what they have planned to make a better determination.  However, the idea of NEW vintage figures sounds the most appealing to me like Grand Moff Tarkin.

More confirmation from Rebelscum

A dozen new Classic Trilogy figures (as prevously reported by Rebelscum) "in the style of the vintage ones but not exactly the same" will be made available at the same time as the DVD launch.

So I guess we're all working under the assumption here that these 12 figures are going to be in a different "sub-line" than the other figures that are also being mentioned right now under the Original Trilogy Collection moniker, right?  Two different lines?

The OTC collection is purported to have vintage styled cards, so I can see where there could be a little confusion on the matter.  But the OTC product mentioned at SSG is the Dagobah wave, so I'd imagine that's going to be VERY different than some figures made in the old vintage style, as being discussed with these 12.  Therefore it looks safe to assume there's going to be two different OT lines running concurrently.

So the question is, will the 12 vintage styled figures mirror the original vintage figures from the 12-backs?  Or will Hasbro make the brilliant choice of giving us the missing vintage figures of Slave Leia, Tarkin, Wedge, Oola, etc. finally?  Hopefully the latter.  Either way, I'll be buying, 'cause I'm a sucker when it comes to supporting Hasbro and Lucas...   :P

I'd buy the latter for sure, I'd love a Tarkin, the former, meh, I'll have to play it by ear...not a carded collector, but if they were replicas of that great packaging, then sure

And I'll say that this is indeed something totally different, sort of like the Animated Clone Wars subline

Original Trilogy Collection?

New "Vinatge" Style Collection?

Saga?

This all sounds like good stuff, but very confusing for retailers.

I wonder if the OTC "Dagobah" wave is taking up where "Saga" leaves off.  But where does that leave the prequels?

No doubt, add to that Episode III at the beginning of next year and you have 4 potential lines of figures.  I'm starting to wonder if these will be exclusives

Well, with Hasbro's recent announcement, and their showings at Toy Fair, the question of this mysterious "vintage" assortment has finally been answered!  As such, head on over to the New Vintage Assortment! thread to discuss it to your heart's content...

We'll go ahead and lock this one up in favor of the new one now.   8)
