I happened to be out to lunch with some co-workers today and caught this live on ESPN. Nothing like watching a spelling bee on a muted TV to keep you entertained while you munch on some hot wings. Click on the link about halfway down to see someone who may not want to go into a career of public speaking...or at least spelling. I guess the kids older brother was the champ a couple of years ago so he was probably feeling the pressure to live up to the hype!

That's too funny!  It always cracks me up when I see those spelling bees being shown on ESPN of all places.  But damn, those kids (and families) take that $h!t seriously!    Kills me when they ask for the pronunciation, language of origin, definition, use it in a sentence, etc, etc, etc, like 20 times each for every freaking word.

Those kids are gonna be dead by the time they're 13, just from the stress of these events.  Great drama though...

I finally saw the clip this morning on Sportscenter, classic!  Falls over, gets up and spells the word

They showed the Champion spell the last word, he was almost hyperventilating between each letter.

I think the kid faked the fall just to get some publicity... otherwise nobody gives a damn about who got 2nd place. Now that I think about it, nobody gives a damn about who got 1st place, either.
