I've started to see "confirmatons" of some of these changes now, and I'm not sure what to think. Like it was said before, the "original" versions of these movies were gone once the Special Editions came out, and I wish we could have DVD versions of the films as they were originally, in the theatres back in the 70s/80s. Those are the ones I grew up with, watching, and loving. Don't get me wrong, I still can't wait for these DVDs, but it won't ever be quite the same now, will it?
That said, I guess it is Lucas' right to do with these movies what he wants to, and I don't have any problems with cleaning up effects shots, matte lines, etc. I also don't mind replacing certain things to make them look better (the SE-added Jabba comes to mind), as I am sure they can do a much better job now. This ending scene I'm not so sure about, it will seem so
different every time I watch it, but I guess I can appreciate tying the entire saga together a little bit too. Right now, other than similar characters/planets, I don't know that the bridge between the PT and the OT is all that great. Although, hopefully Revenge of the Sith will help that as well. I definitely don't need to hear a Gungan yelling "wesa free" at the end of the Saga though. Yikes.
I guess the bottom line is, there's not much we can do about it...and hopefully certain changes won't be as bad as we think. I'm still greatly looking forward to the DVD release, changes or no changes. And, like I said, I can appreciate the fact of trying to tie things together a little more too. Hopefully it isn't messed up too much, and fans won't be upset again (of course, we're always upset about something, aren't we?

)
