It's stories like this that make me think that the human race might be doomed.

It was just a matter of time before Chestnut broke the record. He'd been getting closer and closer to Kobayashi (sp?) every year. I love how one of the prizes was a year's supply of hotdogs. :P

Ack! Kobayashi defeated? Damned. I remember going to Nathan's in 2004 for the contest, Eric Badlands Booker was my favorite of them all.

YES!

America PROVES why we are the world's fattest nation!

USA! USA! USA!

To be serious, I think Chestnut's win was a fluke since Kobayashi's jaw was hurt or something. I mean, the guy still downed 63 dogs with an injured jaw... he'll win it back next year.

Joey Chestnut wins hot dog eating contest

Kobayashi & Chestnut tie for the 1st time at 58 dogs in 10 mins. They went to overtime to see who can eat 5 dogs in the fastest time & Chestnut was da winner.

There was also a new time limit:

And this year it's going to be even harder - organizers said two full minutes would be shaved from regulation time after it was recently revealed that the original competition in 1916 was just 10 minutes long, instead of the 12-minute limit used in more recent years.

Richard Shea, one of the founders of the International Federation of Competitive Eating, said organizers of the Coney Island showdown discovered the timing discrepancy in a pamphlet from around the time of the earliest contest.

Eaters will now have 10 minutes, like their frankfurter forefathers, in order to "restore the contest to its original length and maintain its integrity," Shea said.

Chestnut chows down 68 hot dogs; sets record

Chestnut wins NY hot dog eating match, 3d in row

Quote
For the third straight year, Chestnut beat out his main rival, Takeru Kobayashi. The two lived up to their ravenous reputations. They made quick work of the 17 other eaters, and set personal best scores: Chestnut ate 68 dogs to Kobayashi's 64.5.

The event lasts 10 minutes and the two were keeping pace with each other until the last minute where Chestnut pulled away

Good god that's alot of dogs! Excuse me while I
