2005 Red Metallic Darth Vader @ Target
« on: February 15, 2005, 12:54 AM »

Think we've seen the last of vac-metallized figures?  Think again.

Hasbro wasn't lying when they said that the era of silver figures was over, but apparently they haven't given up on the vacuum-metallized exclusive figure concept just yet.

The JediDefender News Room has dug up some dirt on a planned Target exclusive for 2005 - Red Metallic Darth Vader.  No details yet on the how or when, but you can expect to add this guy to your collection sometime in 2005!  Watch for more details on this figure as we get closer to April 2nd!

Red metallic? Is it a Christmas ornament? I really thought they had scraped the bottom of the barrel with the last silver Vader, but apparently there’s no stopping them.

Red. Wow.

Not quite, it actually looks pretty good carded.   ;)

It is pretty blatent actually... red = Target's colors, and to a lesser extent, red = the lava theme of Ep3.  They must be trying to tie them all together methinks.

Vader's pants should be a Khaki color.

And he should walk right by you when you need help, and if you manage to get to the register, you'll wait in a pathetically long line (why build 30 registers if you're only going to open three?), and won't be greeted or thanked even though you just dropped $45 on groceries.

Sorry. Little rant from my ****** Target experience tonight.

This is all just a bad dream...... I'm going to wake up any second.... no more metallic figures....

Is this figure going to come with a Target name tag and a phone headset like Vader was geared-up in the Black Friday wake-up call commercials?

His action feature should be "You're request for me to fill the empty pegs with toys that the price scanner indicates are in stock is insignificant next to the power of standing around and b.s.-ing with my fellow Target employees"

It's funny because most collectors bitch up a storm if the paint color is just a tad bit off on a figure.  But dip Vader in silver and/or red paint and it's fantastic? LOL!

Anyway, I think Hasbro could put out a rainbow of Vaders this year and they will sell.  Vader is going to be so hyped up this year will probably be gagging at the sight of him.

I will enjoy this while it lasts though.  But no red Vaders for me thanks.  I will leave them alone.

Now watch me be a hypocrit and  buy one.

Well... this might be cool.  I'm looking forward to seeing pics.

But Target exclusives are usually a b!tch to find.

Usually, yes, but Target will likely use these as corporate propoganda, and shove them down everybody's throats.

There must be a Star Wars fan that orders figures at my Target.  I have never failed to get a Target exclusive I don't think.  Including the Skiff and Y-Wing.  Depends on where you live I suppose.

It sounds kinda.....neat.  Now don't go stringing me up, but as soon as I read Jeff's title, I thought lava and if they do it right, it might look kinda cool.  Especially if it's a vac/metallized instead of just a ****** grey spray paint app like Boba was.  I really like my Toy Fair Vader and the  R2 is pretty cool too, but from there it's down hill.

I'm up for one and will need help, unless Target roams north really quickly.

There's still hope - remember that rumour that Target was going to buy out Zellers?...

Anyway, if they're done right, they could be very cool - purely as a display piece obviously.  But like Brent says, they have to be done right - my R2 is nice because it doesn't look like it was just dipped in a bucket of 17 year old 99cent paint (like the TRU Vader - of course I still bought one - add another hypocrite to the list).
