Site Feedback, Suggestions, and Help / Computer freeze up??
« on: February 2, 2004, 04:27 PM »
Ok, bear with me here, I'm 99% certain it is my old clunker of a computer that is causing this.

The situation: certain pages on varying boards/web pages lock up my computer.  Ctrl/ALt/Del doesn't unlock it.  The only thing that gets it going is to hit the reset button which requires a complete reboot and MS scan of ye olde tugboat-of-a-computer.

Two pages on here currently are doing this:  Marvel Legends latest page and the Saga thread TRU finds or whatever the real title is.  I also have the problem consistently with the Galactichunter main page (I know, not your problem, just for reference sake) and have from the get go.  I also have problems over on snowtroopers.ca but I finally figured out it is something in the script of G3PO's sig.

I primarily use IE for surfing as I find Nutscrape to be unstable.  It is an older version 5.x?

So I'm wondering if anyone can help or suggest anything?  Outside of a new computer that is.  I plan on getting one, but probably not until summer.  So I'm stuck here for a bit.  I've defragmented and done all the usual virus scan stuff.

Thanks in advance.

Watto's Junk Yard / Sick of scalpers
« on: January 1, 2004, 09:05 PM »
I am seriously tired of people going on Star Wars and other toy boards and blatantly scalping stuff.  There are people on other boards that are asking double + for current figures.  They rationalize that it's to help pay for their gas.  Well sorry, but some of those prices pay for the gas, lunch, breakfast, dinner and a couple of movies in addition to their kids college tuition.

Now, I get an email back from a guy who posted about a 12" figure I've been looking for.  No responses to his thread, I email the guy this afternoon and he sends back a message indicating that someone else is interested in it and hints strongly that it will go to whoever pays more for it.  In my email I offered his asking price.  Basically he wants a bidding war for his stuff.  There's a perfectly legitimate place for that, it's called ebay.

Sorry for bitching but I've just had it with guys who think they're doing me and others a favor by grossly overcharging for toys.  And no, it was no one from this board.  Frosts my..... >:(

Watto's Junk Yard / The Great 2004 collectors challenge
« on: December 30, 2003, 11:58 AM »
What, you ask, it that?

Well, out of curiosity I want to know what I (and others) spend in a year on toys.  If you wish to participate and perhaps frighten the hell out of yourself, please feel free to join in.  If not, no worries.

Here's the deal:
Keep track of every penny you spend starting on January 1st.
-Anything that is in transit does not count.
-If you've paid for and shipped your end of a trade prior to that date, it doesn't count.
-If you have paid for something (item in hand) and are still in need of shipping, the shipping costs count
-for Canuckleheads, customs fees (taxes +$5.00) count, if applied to a trade of international origin
-preorders count if your credit card is charged after January 01, 2004
-travel charges (i.e. gas, bus, etc.) do not count as they are too intangible to keep track of (you're welcome Matt)
-all toy lines, collectibles, etc. that you collect are to be included - Master replicas, vintage, display cases
-fees for entrance into conventions do not apply nor do associated travel costs - it is presumed you would go anyway, but costs for items purchased at these events are included

These rules are welcome to be ammended as they are likely not complete.  I expect keeping track in this thread is the best idea, though it may lead to divorce ;)

Anyone up for it?

Feedback / Nicklab's feedback
« on: December 15, 2003, 12:58 AM »
Ok, I looked twice.  Can't believe there's not a thread here.

Anyway, my fellow McFarlane Sportspick nut and I finished off one trade and are just waiting for my end to get to him on the second.

Great communication, fair deals and excellent packing.  A pleasure.

Vintage Kenner / What's the difference between...
« on: November 25, 2003, 10:49 PM »
Nikto's battle staff and Yakface's staff?

Looking through the action figure archive, they look awful similar.  Is that accurate or was there some creative license/error in the photos?  I wouldn't be surprised to see the same weapon for both figures as that seemed very common through the vintage line.

Nowhere near acquiring a Yakface, but wondering if I should snag two complete Nikto's?

Modern Classifieds / My want list
« on: November 11, 2003, 02:16 PM »
Greetings,
this is mostly for the guys that help me out all the time.  I've been fortunate enough to have a pile of guys hunting for stuff for me and sending it all up for C&S, to me the true spirit of star wars collecting.  Since I am so horribly disorganized I thought I should create a master list for folks to have for reference (mostly me).  Anyone else that wants to help out is more than welcome.  I can't do much in return with respect to Star Wars but possibly I can help you from a McFarlane sports pick angle, mostly hockey.  If you see a number behind it means multiples please ;)

Newbies / Hey! Who's the new guy in yellow?
« on: November 7, 2003, 10:50 PM »
Jokabofe?  did I spell that correctly?

Now I admit to not reading the front page very often (crashes my home computer :-\) so if it was announced there, please excuse me.

Otherwise, welcome new and powerful overlord type. :-*

Vintage Kenner / What are the "last 17" figures?
« on: November 3, 2003, 11:15 PM »
Yes, I know, the last 17 vintage figures made, but specifically what are they.  Not like I would expect to be lied to on ebay or anything like that.   ::)

Currently these are the figures listed as "last 17" in the titles on ebay:

Anakin
EV-9D9
A-wing pilot
Imperial Dignitary
Lando General
Luke Battle Poncho (Endor)
Romba
Warok
Yakface
Lumat
R2-D2 with pop up light saber
Han Solo Carbonite
Luke Stormtrooper
Imperial Gunner
Barada
Amanaman
Paploo?

Is that correct?  Some seem relatively "common" on ebay

And while we're at it, what are good prices for each?  Do we have a price guide here?

For me it's about 5 1/2 hours ago.

Less than a mile from home, I stop at the red light.  Waiting for my turn, it's essentially post rush hour and WHAM!!  Some guy in a truck plows into the back of me :o >:(

Guess what the first word out of my mouth was?  Inside the car that is.  I see no point, no matter the overwhelming temptation to beat the snot out of the guy, in getting mad.  License, registration and get out of there before hitting someone.  This is not to say I'm not unbelievably ticked but it serves no good purpose.

Even worse, red light, maybe 10-15 cars around at various points of the intersection.  You think anyone pulled over to be a witness?  Nope, not a chance.   >:(  Thanks folks, maybe I'll help you out when your house is on fire ::)

Anyway, for our American friends, no civil suits of that sort up here.  A vehicle has to be insured to be licensed, so that side is covered as should be all the damage to my car, but what a pain in the butt (neck?).  Probably $1500-$2000 damage and I'll have to file a police report.  The good news is that our insurance adjustors and the guys who estimate damages are pretty clever in determining how the damage occurred.  Even if the guy turns into a complete knob and tries to claim I backed into him, the damage will tell a different story.  Here's hoping he doesn't try that.

Annoyed, I am...

Watto's Junk Yard / Goin' Shoppin' - need your help
« on: October 16, 2003, 03:48 PM »
Alrighty then, I'm a week away (well, 9 days) from going and buying up all the toys in the greater Cincinatti area ;D  These are the stores I can think of checking and have done the store locator schtick for:

Walmart
Target
KB
Kmart
EB
Meijer (curse you McFarlane and your red paint)
Gamestop
TRU

Aside from a disturbing lack (in abundance, not complete) of Target stores, what am I missing.  I'm hunting primarily for Star Wars and McFarlane Sports Picks.  Help me out please.

Modern Trading / Trade list (wants added)

But you may or may not want some of it ;D  Here's the deal, where something is obviously not mint, I have noted it.  If you are a carded collector, please tell me and I will check condition before we finalize.  I have denoted trilogo figs where they occur; if it says nothing, it's on a US card.

For those that don't know, I am in Canada, so decide whether that bothers you in advance ;)

My wants list will follow, I need to construct it and may not be able to do so until later.  If you have clone 3 packs, you've probably found something I want.  I'll sell this stuff too, if you like.

Well, at the very least for toys.  Just read through a couple of the other toy lines threads and could have made a similar comment in each one for the most part.  So I thought I'd concentrate it here.  I suppose it probably belongs elsewhere but it can be moved if necessary (or deleted, I just need to vent).

From the Marvel Legends line, I see sales on older product and guys only parting with $5 and change of their disposable income.  Up here they cost $14.99 plus 14% tax and are next to never clearanced.  I did score Cap and Ironman for $5 but that was about a year ago.  One of our stores, Zellers, continues to stock ML II over and over and over again, seemingly unaware that III exists.  Thing is so common up here, it's frightening and the retailers are probably looking at shelves thinking, hmm, this stuff doesn't sell.  I can find all of series II with ease.  TRU brought in some ML III but only movie Daredevil remains on the shelves with all the crap from ML II.  Namor, Torch, Thing all sit forever.  At least Doom sells through but I could probably pick up three today if I had to.  ML IV doesn't even exist in retailers up here.  It's bloody ridiculous.  Walmart isn't carrying anything in this line at all even though they sold huge amounts of ML I last fall ???

The mini-mates/Kubricks thread was another downer.  With respect to the minimates, we had some come in (the two packs at $8.95 plus that 14% tax) and they are all gone. But only the first wave, lots of those figs that Scott listed just weren't available.  I think these are cool, but I just can't afford to bring in even more stuff from the US.  Why?

Walmart Canada and Zellers, two of the largest retailers, are not carrying Star Wars for the forseeable future.  We don't have KBtoys, Target or any of the other retailers you guys do.  On top of that, Hasbro Canada is not carrying Star Wars in Canada past the Hoth Han wave, likely until the release of Episode III.  Retailers (read TRU) can still bring in US product, but after the similar peg clogging from EP II and Ep I, they are reluctant to bring in much.  TRU is bringing in some Unleashed, but still no idea which wave.  The last unleashed they carried was Maul and Fett ::)

LOTR is still clogged with the usual pegwarmers from TTT, no sign of ROTK stuff yet.  On the bright side, TRU has gone hard and heavy with the mini figs and by all counts, they are selling very, very well.  I won't whine much about this line as I don't really collect it.

Muppets have been abyssmal.  We had the first round, then skipped them all to wave 4, which is not moving, IMO due to the two pigs in space characters.  They're cool, but not for everyone.  Rizzo goes quick and I've been able to see both the regular and 'chase' Rizzo's.  Still, it's not looking promising for wave 5.

Simpsons suck.  We got Wave 1 and I can still buy Homer and Bart at regular price ::)  I think the next wave that was carried by any major retailer was 10 (there was a couple of store carrying the other lines, but at $16.99 plus that accursed 14% tax, it was a bit steep).  Now wave 10 is clogging two major retailers and the line is likely to be dropped again.  US is on wave 13, yes?

MOTU has been a bright spot of sorts, though we've been so behind it's frightening.  I've been able to see most of the figs up here, but the first Orko I saw was about two weeks ago, roughly 4-5 months after I could have grabbed one in Wisconsin.  I don't collect the line, but could the case ratios be worse?  How many He-Man figs does a kid need?

Anyhoo, it's not that toys don't sell up here, it's that between retailers and warehouses, they have no concept of the quantity necessary.  Kit Fisto is still in abundance and that's really not necessary.  Sorry for whining but it needed to be said. :-\

Here's the deal:

I also collect McFarlane sportspicks, predominantly hockey.  It turns out that they have recently released a red version (road uniforms) of the Detroit Red Wings 3 pack.  But this has only been done in the Michigan and surrounding area and only at Meijers stores.

I am asking for help in getting this.  I don't need them shipped in the box, loose is just fine, but I need these guys and would prefer to not head off to ebay.

I can paypal in advance, send cash or do a trade if preferred.  I have quite a quantity of McFarlane hockey variants and still have some Star Wars to trade, but nothing too rare or recent.  Just older, more common stuff, but some army builders.

Shoot me a pm if you can help and thanks for reading.
