The Vintage Collection '10-'13 / Re: Celebration VI
« on: August 25, 2012, 01:54 AM »
With the lack of anything interesting coming out of C6, I have to say that I now consider this the lowest point this hobby has reached since 1995.  Spring of 2003, when there were no figures for 6 months was close, but, to me, this is the lowest low.

Clone Wars seems dead, and we may never see many of the cool crazy designs from the later seasons.  I'm just not buying anymore resculpts.

Vehicles, aside from the Naboo Fighter, to me, are dead as well.  I'm not buying smaller, less accurate sculpts.  (I do think these look like good toys, and kids will like them.)

As far as figures, I no longer collect one of each, and now that they are so hard to come by I've lost track of what's even out there.  There seems to be a few nice figures in the first Droid Factory wave, and maybe 1 in wave 2, so I'm not buying them for the droids.  I just can't make it financially justifiable in my head.

Anyone who knows me knows that I love this stuff, and for many years lived and breathed it.  But now, I don't know...there is literally nothing to get excited about.

I'm with you, man.

BTW, $39.99, which I reported on our front page...  DarthChuckMC reported on twitter these were $45 down in Orlando I believe, and that hopefully was just down there...  Is TRU allowed to scalp?  ???

One can hope these don't go up in price.

I saw stuff like this in my TRU except worse (Marvel Legends marked up to $22.99 from $15.99) and was like WTF?

A manager at the TRU closest to me explained that there are now a bunch of TRU "test stores" around the country.  Select TRU stores that jack up the price on certain items.  Then they track sales.  If the sales are equivalent to other areas, this is viewed as free money and the price hike goes nationwide.

My TRU is one such test store.  And I am so lucky to be paying more.

My store is currently gouging like mad on Marvel but Star Wars vintage is $9.99, they were $11.99 for a while but the old stale TPM **** just sat there for like 4 months.

That explains why one of the two TRU's near me has a higher price. I have gotten them (at least once, maybe twice) to adjust the price to match the other TRU though.

Same here on all counts. Original Trilogy all the way.

This is why my theory will be that Build-a-Droid will stick around for the rest of the 3D re-releases of the PT and when the 3D re-releases of the OT hit, we'll be back to the Vintage line and it will be during that push that they will finish redoing the original 92 and updating the remainder of the POTF2 figures.

From your lips to Gods ears. I hope your theory is right. I need a fully articulated updated Bib Fortuna.

An absolute must-have! I'd also like Leia Boussh.

Yeah, I've always been an opener, but I feel for you guys that keep them carded...that can't be easy. Especially since you can't inspect before you buy.

140
I don't know about you guys, but I'm pretty psyched for Prune Face.

141

I know, what could be worse than that?

A line of Build A-Droid figures where there is not one "unmade" figure at all.  All resculpts.

Truth.

I have to point out there was no TIE pilot seen in ESB.

Oh yes there is. ;)

It's one of my favorite bits...  but he's there...  he's not happy, but he's there.

Yeah, you can see a burning TIE pilot ejecting when a TIE gets hit by an asteroid in the chase scene. If you slow it down, you can see him twisting and turning on fire.

143
So is the AT-ST the new battledroid?

144
That should be Hasbro's "peace out" wave...

• Shmi in a bodybag (SA)
• Padme in floating coffin thing
• Uncle Owen and Aunt Beru extra crispy
• the burning TIE pilot from ESB with lightning effects
• Anakin (Darth Vader) in med capsule
• Cliegg Lars

This would be a great time to offer the funeral pyre Vader set as well.

I knew the TPM wave was going to **** up the distribution. I was the same thing last time we had TPM figures clogging the pegs.

Pete_Fett made my Imperial shelf all the more Tarkin-ey. Thanks again!

Ah, ok. Well, so far I like the look of it...but I've been excited for Star Wars games in the past, only to be disappointed. Though I did have a blast with some of the games where you weren't a jedi. I played the hell out of Bounty Hunter, even though it wasn't amazing. And I enjoyed Republic Commando too.

148
I dunno if I'd shell out $10 for Cliegg Lars. Maybe if I decided to to a dio of him being beaten by Tusken Raiders.  >:D

I'd buy him once, but let's just say I would never clamor for a resculpt.
