Other Toy Lines / Re: Lord of the Rings: Armies of Middle Earth
« on: August 6, 2003, 07:24 PM »
I saw these for the first time today at Target, and after taking one look at them, I was like, "Wow, so not collecting these."  They are significantly smaller than I imagined (I knew they were small, but yikes) and made no impression on me sculpt wise.  The sculpt and paint deco on a lot of the figs I saw left a lot to be desired.

That said, the two Uruk Hai sets (battering ram etc.) left me wondering WHY ON EARTH Toy Biz has yet to make a Helm's Deep Armored Uruk.  A gaggle of kids and Soccer Moms exploded when they saw these, leading me to believe that kids will find this line a much better (and cheaper) alternative to Toy Biz.

I did buy one Gandalf on Shadowfax to put on top of my computer.  Gandalf inexplicably has red hair.   :-\

Nah, it's not childish.  I'm reading it too.  About halfway through right now.  It's a little slow and contrary to most reviews I've read, JK Rowling's writing hasn't made any dramatic leaps.  Still, it's good.  And I love the creepy Big Brother aspect of the Ministry and Umbridge.

Other Toy Lines / Re: Which is Your Favorite "Other Toy Line"?

LOTR is my second favorite.  I don't have a complete collection by far.  It was Simpsons, but it reached a point where even I didn't recognize some of these people.  So I don't collect those any more.  Also, no cash/space.

I have a few figs from various lines, Spidey, X2, ML, Star Trek, but mostly I stick to Star Wars.

I'm resisting the AOME line with all my willpower.

I just don't have the space (or the cash, really) to start another line.  I do like them and if they had come out sooner I would have picked them over Toy Biz (only because of space) but now... sigh.

Just imagine Art Asylum doing Buffy/Angel figs, and feel your heart sink.  Still hope, I suppose.

Ditto, HMI.   ;D

I echo all of HMI's sentiments (including the stealing).  Sad, wonderful, epic.

One of the greats.  Thanks,  Bob.

Saga '02-'04 / Re: Anyone preorder the wave 13 case from NFC?

In a word: Ugh.

I think they could do the AT-TE for around the same price as the Gunship, $40-50 or so.  I also wonder how distribution will be for these three packs, considering Wal Mart isn't carrying them.  The Jedi pack (the one I want most) is shortpacked, and essentially so are the color Clone variants.  Could get ugly unless they ship the bejebus out of them.

Considering the Lars Homestead was on the rumor list not too long ago (with the Wampa cave), I'd imagine we'll see those figs either as a Screen Scene, or broken up into the waves.

Considering the sizable accessory Riekken comes with, I wonder if he wasn't part of a larger Screen Scene featuring other characters.

Half and half on the themes would be fine for me.  I don't want them forgetting about the PT too much.

Welcome back!

(cue Welcome Back, Kotter theme song)

I'm not disappointed at all.  The only place this could have gone is deeper into EU, which Hasbro can do in a basic SW line.  I am surprised however that they're not planning on taking it further.
