Clone Wars '03-'05 / Re: New Ultra Clone shots at!
« on: December 8, 2003, 03:30 PM »
Looking at the various pictures of this super articulated clone online, and today reading the review posted over at GH, this figure really looks amazing.  The combination of likeness and articulation has to make this one of the best Star Wars figures ever made.  It can be a neutral figure, but at the same time is capable of a number of poses.  Plus, it sounds like it has all the articulation necessary (let's face it, we're probably not getting articulated fingers, toes, etc. like the Marvel Legends this scale).  It would be nice if all Star Wars figures could be made in this fashion, particularly the main characters and army builders.  It might be a little more difficult to hide the articulation as well on figures like Han, Luke, Vader, etc....but it would be nice.  Hopefully we can at least get a Stormtrooper done in this fashion...and while they're at it, they might as well use that body to make a new Stormtrooper Han and Luke :).

Other Toy Lines / What is Your Favorite Figure "Scale"?
« on: December 8, 2003, 03:27 PM »
I'm not sure if this is the best forum to post this in, so if its not, feel free to move it :).  I was just curious, which "scale" of action figures do you feel is the best, or your favorite?  Do you prefer the 3 3/4" scale of our beloved Star Wars, or the 6" scale that is more common in many other figure lines?  There seems to be advantages of both scales, such as the space/vehicle/playset advantages of 3 3/4", and the added articulation (and in some cases, detail) of the 6" scale.  Personally, I really like the 3 3/4" scale, because that is basically what I grew up with between Star Wars and GI Joe, and it allows more vehicle, playset releases, and is easier to display overall I think.  I do have some 6 inch-ish scale things, a handful of ML, LOTR, and MOTU well as some of the Unleashed line...and in the case of Unleashed, it seems that the likenesses are often done a little better, although I think hasbro does a pretty good job overall with the 3 3/4" scale liknesses.  Anyways....what scale do you like the best?

We're headed to the Alamo bowl, but I can't complain.  We had a decent season after last year's debacle, and it should be a good matchup with Michigan State.  Hopefully we'll play well.  Kind of a strange year in BCS land again, with USC kind of getting the screwgie.  Of course, any of those three teams (OU, LSU, USC) would have a gripe if they weren't in the title game.  At least USC has a chance at a share of the title.  That system just doesn't quite work right :).

The Prequel Trilogy / Re: New Anakin pic on Hyperspace
« on: December 8, 2003, 10:49 AM »
I saw this pic last week, and I agree...this is how I imagined the pre-Vader Anakin.  I think that Hayden looks perfect in that pic...very battle worn, the glove is awesome, and it does look like he has "bulked up" quite a bit from the last movie.  The movie is looking good so far... :)

Happy Birthday (or Belated Birthday to some) to all the recent b-days.  I hope you had great days, and God bless you!

I was really happy to see that Swami report as well, I hope it all turns out to be true.  I've personally really been hoping for an Endor Han resculpt (I wasn't overly happy with the 2002 version, like many others).  I hope they do it up like Jesse James suggested....lots of articulation, working holster, soft goods coat, etc.  I'm also very happy to hear about a General Lando, another needed resculpt.  Madine and any Ewoks are always welcome as well, hopefully they use this two pack to release a couple of the vintage ones that haven't come out yet.  I'll be looking forward to (hopefully) confirmation and, in the future, pics of this wave.

Kubricks / Re: Kubricks and Minimates

Yeah Matt, I got an e-mail from Tim as well, I'm really sorry... I didn't realize that it wasn't supposed to be posted, and I hope I didn't cause anyone here or anywhere else any trouble because of it.  Again, I'm very sorry.

I don't follow the mini-mate stuff really, but I assume these are sold domestically here, right - unlike my beloved Kubricks?  Hmmm...  I don't collect any other lines, but I love LOTR and if this particular mini-mate line expands a bit more I just might start looking into it...

I agree Matt, they do look kind of tempting to me too.  One of the reasons I haven't picked up more LOTR figures (only 2) than I have is because I don't have the space...especially for the 6" figures.  These little ones might be a little more tempting :P

Kubricks / Re: Kubricks and Minimates

Although I don't collect any kubricks or minimates (although they are really cool), I did run across this while visiting the Green Dragon this morning.  Maybe its old news, but I think its the first time I have seen these:

Edit:  Had to remove the picture, sorry for any trouble everyone.  And sorry to Art Asylum as well.

Kinda cool I thought, sorry if it is old news though. :)

The Bullpen / Marvel Legends
« on: December 3, 2003, 05:12 PM »
I just had a question for those of you that collect Marvel Legends.  Although I only pick up the X-Men from this line, space is still at a premium in our office (where the Star Wars collection resides).  I have my ML figs out too, but am running out of space fast and thought about putting the bases away to save a little bit of room.  Do you display your with your bases, or without?  Some of them look pretty nice, so it is nice to have them out, but they do take up a little more room in some cases.  Just curious what some of you do :).

JD Sports Forum! / Your Favorite Sport?
« on: December 3, 2003, 04:37 PM »
Simple question, just curious I guess as to everyone's tastes.  The sports I enjoy the most are basketball and football, but I do appreciate the others as well (baseball, hockey, soccer, tennis, golf, etc.).  Since we live in Nebraska, we pretty much live and breathe football here...since we don't have much else (even if the last two seasons have not been our best).  But, if I had to pick a favorite, it would definitely be basketball...for some reason that has always been my sport, I enjoy watching all levels of it (HS, College, Pro, Olympics)...and it was the sport that I was the best at growing up (and still today I guess).  I always enjoy playing, and spent more hours than I can remember with my best friends playing 3 on 3, or having what we called "dunkfests"...basically dunking until our hands bled :).  Anyways...what is your favorite sport?

Saga '02-'04 / Re: Cloth or Plastic?
« on: December 3, 2003, 11:57 AM »
That being said, there are some figures that look better with sculpted plastic. The senators, dignitaries, etc. are good examples. Soft goods should be reserved for figures that wear simple robes (jedi), so the cloth looks genuine. Also, figures that have alot of articulation and would be placed in action scenes should have soft goods.

I think that is an excellent point, and really how I feel about this too.  Figures like AOTC Palpatine, Bail, the removable head Tusken, etc., really look good with the sculpted plastic.  Other figures, such as the Jedi in specific, can really use cloth since it doesn't limit their posability.  If the figure is basically meant to stand straight up and down with its hands clasped in front of it...plastic is fine by me...if it is meant for multiple poses, cloth *might* be an option.  Excellent point LandotheScoundrel.

Saga '02-'04 / Re: RUMORS FOR 2004!!!!!!
« on: December 3, 2003, 11:54 AM »
I agree totally, these lists keep getting better and better.  I really hope we get to see all of these figures as well.  I've always wanted to get a good Endor Luke (as well as the rumored Han), and I hope it comes accessorized and articulated to the T.  Its always nice to see another ewok included, hopefully it is Chirpa, as has been rumored.  Also, a jointed knees 3PO would be pretty sweet.  All of these sound great, I hope that they end up being true.  Seems like a rumored "endor" wave of Han, Luke, Ewok, and maybe a Deluxe 3PO with Throne would be a good idea.  Who knows, but hopefully it turns out that way.

Watto's Junk Yard / Re: Vintage gaming nerds, check this out:
« on: December 3, 2003, 09:53 AM »
I agree, a lot of nostalgia reading this thread :).  The Intellivision stuff really brings back some memories for me.  That is the gaming system I had when I was a kid, until I finally convinced my parents of getting me a Nintendo for Christmas about a year or two after it came out I think.  My dad had the intellivision system before I was old enough to play games, but I spent a lot of time growing up playing "Pro Football", "Pro Basketball", "Burger Time", "Pitfall", "Donkey Kong Junior", "Night Stalker", "Dungeons and Dragons", and many others.  The graphics were terrible compared to even the original NES, but those games sure were fun at the time.  I know I played the heck out of Donkey Kong Jr. back then :).

Saga '02-'04 / Re: SAGA Drying Up Again?
« on: December 3, 2003, 09:13 AM »
I'm not sure what to think yet, I was hoping that Saga would be a little easier to find now that most of the stores around here have cleared out the older stuff...but I haven't seen a whole lot lately.  I can't complain, as I have seen remnants of the Dignitary/Bail/Padme wave, but never the whole wave at once (and I still haven't seen Obi or the Concept Trooper, the ones I was actually looking for :P).  Otherwise, around here, it has basically been solid Clone Wars figures at most stores, as well as plenty of Screen Scenes.  I'm really hoping things pick up on the Saga side of things, because I haven't been preordering any 2004 figures with the hopes that I could find them at retail...but I'm starting to worry a little bit too.
