Attended the Assembly Required con in Des Moines last weekend. It was a blast, and I got some cool swag to boot:

A bunch of perfectly mint vintage Joes: Quick Kick, Budo, Falcon, Jinx, Cobra Commander, Toxo-Viper, Techno-Viper, and Laser Viper. The full cards were a bonus, and none of these cost more than $12.

But the best part was these two:

JoeCon 2011 Python Tele-Viper I bought from one of the dealers, then a preproduction Retaliation Sneak Attack Storm Shadow! (At least I think that's what Hasbro is going to call it.) I won it in the raffle, so that was a pretty sweet bonus.

If you're in the area, I'd make the drive to next year's gathering. It's small for now, but the deals to be had on vintage and modern are incredible, plus the store hosting it (Jay's CD & Hobby) is one of the neatest places I've ever been.

Bought one of these bad boys today. Had a 15% off coupon which made the price what I expected to pay, so I couldn't pass it up.

Now, to find a place to put it. It's still in my trunk since the box is so huge.

Found a case of this wave at my local Target. Figures I'd find this wave after I bought a INC for $20 shipped on ebay, but at least I have that dude carded and loose now.

The Club just announced a second run of the Operation: Bear Trap set. Thinking about getting it, but $360 plus shipping... :P

Looks like Mattel got all their needed preorders for CG, so game on. The preorder's been extended through January 4th if you want order one.

Finally found these Sunday. And they were still on sale, which was an even better deal.

Picked up Scubahsoka, Obi-Wan, and Rex at my local Target. I was shocked, since they haven't restocked anything since February.

He's certainly more credible as the lead in an action movie than LaBeef was.

Watto's Junk Yard / Re: Disney want to buy Hasbro?

I wouldn't think Transformers, GI Joe, and My Little Pony would be intellectual properties Disney would be interested in. Maybe not today, but someday after they've gobbled everything else up.

The Sequel Trilogy / Re: Disney Buys LFL; Announces Episode 7

Either Johnston or Spielberg would be my pick for 7, after that it's anyone's game. Neil Blomkamp (District 9) would be a great choice too, at least IMO.

The score is another thing. Michael Giacchino would be great, but since he's got Star Trek, somebody else should get a shot.

Seems like this Wave is in stock at Amazon

Thanks! Just grabbed two Royal Guards, and looks like the guys I preordered shipped yesterday. Which is good; I didn't want to buy two cases of this wave.

New (to me) stuff from the Club. Got the rest of the Flaming MOTH sets and the Heavy Water membership figure.

Really digging the Jungle Theater set. It features a repainted Night Viper and Frag-Viper, and it's really cool. Wish I'd have bought another set, but shipping from the Club is ridiculous, so I'll just stick with the one.

The Sequel Trilogy / Re: Disney Buys LFL; Announces Episode 7
« on: November 2, 2012, 12:41 AM »
I've been thinking about this for a couple of days before joining the discussion. At first, I didn't like the news. I knew eventually that there would be new Star Wars movies, but I thought they wouldn't happen until I was in my forties. (I'm 31 now.) Then I thought about Disney owning Marvel, and how it seems that Marvel has benefited greatly from that association, and then thinking how great sequels could be since they wouldn't be constrained by having to fit into what came before, and having more than enough money to make it happen. The ST could either be the biggest thing to happen to cinema since the advent of recorded sound, or it could be what it was the last time.

Now I'm just wondering- do they recast Han, Leia, and Luke and start near the end of ROTJ, or go further and have nothing to do with those characters? It's not impossible to recast them; if Kirk and Spock could be recast than so could OT characters, but I'd hate to see Star Wars get lumped into that reboot camp by anyone.

I have to guess that the only people overjoyed by this news run the Star Wars brands at Hasbro and the other licensees.

Edit: another thought going off of the 20th Century Fox fanfare. I doubt John Williams would score the next trilogy, since he's got to be 80ish by now.

That is nuts. Can't wait for it.

I got my preorder in. $19.65 for shipping, which is OK since the thing weighs like twenty pounds. Noticed the release date is 12/11/2013. It's going to be a long wait, if it happens.

Before I heard of this reissue, I was considering dropping nearly $300 on one of these in the old box, but I figured I'd wait. I expected $200. But with shipping and finally getting this thing, I may just go ahead and get one at $250. Think I'll wait until my store gets it in, though, to see if I can get a nice box.

Plus, I preordered that MOTUC Castle Grayskull at this price, so sticker shock is whatever now.
