Saga '02-'04 / Re: Hoth Wave
« on: December 20, 2003, 03:50 AM »
Well I've gotten the Hoth Luke and Hoth Trooper from this wave just the other day (btw is the 2nd Imperial Dignitary and Ack-Mehd Beq also part of this wave? I got them alongside the Hoth figs). And Jesse's concerns about the Hoth Trooper are well founded, the lack of articulation for an army builder is sad, what could have made up for it was a more action-oriented pose. The only real pose he can have with his rifle is sticking out in an awkward position that no infantry personnel would use in firing his large weapon. The sculpt could be a bit better, it's a stocky guy and it does reek of POTF2 which in this case isn't a good thing. He does fit nicely as a background trooper in my Hoth display and I'd probably buy a 2nd one if the paint job isn't as shoddy as on the particular figure I bought. BTW The holster is NOT functional, the blaster is sculpted onto it. :(

Onto the Hoth Luke, this is a nicely sculpted figure that should have been used as the basis for the Hoth Trooper, but I'm intrigued on the choice of articulation when I compare it to Ack-Mehd Beq. The articulation given to this Luke is ok for what is intended, Luke hanging upside down in the Wampa cave. He has ball socket shoulders and an interesting secondary neck articulation point that allows Luke to look up and down. But why does a figure of a tertiary character who got about 2 seconds of screen time get 14 pts of articulation when the main character of the Original Trilogy who has a figure in the same wave have half the amount of articulation? It's just mind boggling. And the paint job on the accessories of the Luke are spotty and flaky just like on the Hoth Trooper. I hope thats not a trend of shoddy painting for the future. Oh yeah, the holster that comes with Luke is not usable, it has no gun in it, but it couldnt hold a gun either.

Star Wars Ships and Vehicles / Re: Speederbike Question

Yep that's your standard reply from Hasbro. I got the same thing when I had problems with the first Jedi Starfighter I bought last year. They came through with sending the postage paid mailing label, but I didn't want to deal with the hassle of getting soemthing other than what I wanted back, in hindsight I woulda probably gotten a Starfighter in return since they were in abundance, but in your case with the Clone bike it's a tricky situation. And ya know since first reading this thread, I've been checking my clone bike and more and more everyday it's getting droopy. And that stupid missile launcher won't stay in place any more, stupid cheap plastic....

Other Toy Lines / Transformers Alternators
« on: December 18, 2003, 02:22 AM »
As of yet I've not heard that they will be exclusives, here;s hoping their not so the price can be relatively low. So far I've read that the following will be or have been made:

Smokescreen: Subaru Impreza WRX
Hound: Jeep (as shown above)
Sideswipe: Dodge Viper
Bluestreak (called Silverstreak for copyright purposes): Subaru Impreza (a rehash of Smokescreen, which is ok since thats how the original G1 line was made)

You could also throw the Masterpiece Optimus Prime into the Alternators line since he's a true rendition of both his cartoon form and of a huge big rig. Here's to hoping we get a Masterpiece Starscream, that would be soooooo sweet.

If anyone collects the Hasbro "Heroes Of Cybertron" 3" PVC line of Generation 1 characters be forewarned that word is coming in that the line is ending with Wave 5 due out this Spring. Wave 5 consists of yet another Optimus Prime (w/ communicator), another Megatron (w/ Laserbeak), Devastator, Omega Supreme, Ratchet, and my personal favorite "Coronation" Starscream from TFTM. Much like Wave 4, this final wave will have each figure come with parts to build a 7th figure, that being Metroplex.

I found several Wave 4 figs recently at a Zany Brainy store that is closing down. I think all Zany Brainy's are closing down as they are owned by FAO. The figures were $4 before a 20% off discount on all action figures. A must get for sure.

Also would anyone happen to have or know where to get for cheap loose versions of the OTFCC HOC exclusives, the orange seeker Sunstorm and the generic purple seeker?

Watto's Junk Yard / Re: .MP3 question... What Causes...?
« on: December 18, 2003, 02:10 AM »
LOL! I can't believe you just asked this question.  :P

Joka's explanation is dead on as to what the record industry is doing nowadays to thwart pirating. Many CD's have a form of encryption on parts of the discs that allow for them to be copied (either to another CD or into MP3 format) but some or all of the songs will have distortions come up that may make listening unbearable.

Also keep in mind where you are getting the mp3's from. In some cases you are getting sabotaged copies sent out by the record industry or you are getting trojan horses from idiots who like to send spyware, adware, virus, executables, etc hidden in a package that's supposed to be an mp3. Also there's always the possiblity whoever created the mp3 just made a bad copy, though that rarely happens nowadays, it was something I saw often during the early days of P2P music sharing.

Oh and one final thing JJ... GO DOWNLOAD MOZILLA ALREADY!!!  ;D

Ugh thats horrible, I've noticed the less than stellar plastic Hasbro has been using lately, but to cause such an abnormality in a toy is just wrong. I have a suggestion that may be of help. Perhaps you can splice the steering vane from a POTF2 Speeder Bike with this one. You would have to do some creative tinkering but I think it could be done and perhaps that would stabilize things. Taking a quick look at my Clone bike, I notice mine is starting to slightly droop as well. I just had an idea though, what about using those small clear plastic bands hasbro is fond of using to hold their figures in the bubble and placing them around the vane but stretching back so they aer attached to the control handles so that the vane is actually being pullled back. If left to sit for a while like that, you could correct the problem....

Power of the Force 2 / Re: Wedge Gunner Station Prototype?
« on: November 26, 2003, 01:04 AM »
I'm wondering now in retrospect if the Wedge Gunner station got far enough into development that the figure wound up being put in the 1999 Rebel Pilots Cinema Scene....

i would have to say no, only because the wedge fig that we got didn't have articulation at the knee, and if i'm not mistaken the other gs figs all had knee articulation, did they not?

Only the Vader had knee articulation, according to the image archive at Scum. I have the Han and I know for a fact he didn't have articulated knees. In fact looking at the pic on Scum of the GS Vader, it looks like it was the Complete Galaxy Vader without the removable helmet.

Star Wars Universe / Color Description of Jaina Solo's R2 unit
« on: November 25, 2003, 11:30 PM »
hey all, does anyone know if the color scheme for Jaina's R2 unit Cappie (R2-B3) has been mentioned in the NJO series. I'm in the middle of the final book Unifying Force, and I got to thinking since I made a custom of Jaina as a X-Wing Pilot, I should go ahead and give her her R2 co-pilot. I know she had at least 2 other R2's previously in the series, but I'd like to do this one. Anyone have any info on Cappie's coloring? thanks!

Power of the Force 2 / Re: Wedge Gunner Station Prototype?
« on: November 25, 2003, 11:14 PM »
Did a search on Google, hoping to come up with an image as I remember hearing about this Gunner Station possibility back in 98. I guess with the failure of the line (remember the Luke, Han, Vader GS' clearanced out as low as a buck at TRU and KB) Kenner/Hasbro opted out on the next 2 entries. Anyways, my Google search didnt result in any images, but it did result in the following descriptions from German collecting site and translated loosely thanks again to Google...

About the Wedge Gunner station...

Kenner planned still two further Gunner stations, one of it was a x-Wing Fighter cockpit with a Wedge Antilles figure.  This occupied a Kenner/Wal*Mart product list for the year 1998.  The list is very precise in the data and can being found therefore than authentically. (huh?) There is not available pictures or further information to this product.

About the TIE Gunner station...

For the Gunner station Subline originally five different products were intended, but only three Gunner station appeared.  The TIE Fighter w/TIE pilot Gunner station was not produced, although she was specified in a product list for the year 1998.  It would be very easy to manufacture, because but the Darth Vader's TIE Fighter Gunner station could be easily modified.  There is no pictures or other information to this product.

I'm wondering now in retrospect if the Wedge Gunner station got far enough into development that the figure wound up being put in the 1999 Rebel Pilots Cinema Scene....

Vintage Kenner / Re: What's the difference between...

yeah they are both the same weapon which is nice, since its rare to find a yakface with the staff. i can't recall though whether the POTF yak came with the weapon or was that the tri-logo yak....

Saga '02-'04 / Re: IS THERE A NEW MOFF IN THE WORK!!!!
« on: November 25, 2003, 10:59 PM »
The only prooblem really, like I said, is that those 3-packs aren't going anywhere fast.  Not here anyway.  Most Targets and some TRU's have upwards of 10 of each set.  That's not a good sign for their popularity, nor the longevity of the idea.

Which is quite sad, since this was a pretty well executed idea (well except for the weird picking of articulation..). I have been seeing upwards of a dozen or so Screen Scenes at Target and TRU. I would hope this doesn't kill the line, perhaps the Xmas rush will move these bad boys so we can get more, like the DS conference table, which should have a properly scaled Tarkin. While the POTF2 Tarkin was great for its time, Peter Cushing did not have Brock Lesnar sized shoulders! :)

Saga '02-'04 / Re: New Luke,R1-G4,R2-D2 Carded Pic
« on: November 25, 2003, 10:57 PM »
first off, this an awesome wave of figures, the luke just blows my mind away, I'll definitely be buying several of those, assuming I can find them...

Well, this probably is the right place to ask, but since we are on the subject of R2 drinks on his drink tray, I have a customizing question.  I am VERY new to customizing.  I just tried a "simple" head swap for a custom to compete in the's SH4 constest (won 8th place).  I had to trim & trim the knob under the neck to get the head back in the hole.  I didn't have that big of an issue pulling it out, but I could not get it back in.

Well headswaps can be tricky when talking about putting a head whose neck peg is larger than the hole you're trying to insert it in. Sounds like the case here and your solution was the right way to go.  I don't know whether or not you used the time honored "boil and pop" method for removing the head, but you can actually use it again to put the head back on.

Anyway,  with painting, which I have never attempted and would be nervous on something with such small detail.   I think I would like to keep the current "cups" on since I think it would be a night mare to try to keep them balanced on the tray.  I don't know if a small drill bit could hallow out the top of a cup, but I'd like to try that.  But then what paint... grey/white? to paint the top of the cup with the appropriate drink color at the bottom of the cup.  Anyone ever customize something with this small of detail?  Would it be worth it?

I didn't notice if the cups were removable or not, but a simple dab of glue would obviously keep them on permanently. A very small drill bit probably would do the trick in hollowing out the cup. About painting in small details, it just takes time and practice, especially when it comes to R2 units, they're a tricky lot. :)

Might I suggest checking out the always fabulous FFURG for all your customizing question needs.  ;) Of course also hit the customizing section here at JD where you can pick the brain of many of us customizers.

Vintage Kenner / Re: Klaatu Head Color Variarion?

is the the "grey-blue" color of the head bright or kinda dull? I vaguely recall hearing this mentioned on scum, but couldn't find anything on it.

Vintage Kenner / Re: vintage variation list
« on: November 25, 2003, 10:43 PM »
hey Henrik, nice to see another vintage veteran over here. a question for you and for matt about variation lists, are your lists sticking with just kenner variations or do they include "foreign to the US" variations as well? I noticed the JD variation list didn't include the green snake yoda which i believe is a tri-logo variant.
