Big thanks to Anthony for a very helpful hookup on some elusive exclusives...

...old man.   :'(

Anaheim, eh?  Interesting...

Just for clarification, is this set up at Star Traders inside the park, or at Once Upon A Toy (or another store) outside the park at Downtown Disney?  I'm seeing conflicting reports around the web on that.  If it's only the former at this point, I'll just wait it out 'til they go WDW's strategy where they subsequently get released outside the park too.  I'm not paying a $100 cover charge to get these things...

Paul, do you know yet?

I have his underwear :-* >:D :P...Crotch Size Small

JD Uber Troll is having yet another challenging dilemma, so Iíve decided to help him out here and start a thread on his behalf, to hopefully help alleviate some of his continuously "unusual" anxiety regarding others peopleís collecting habits.  Force Guy brings up an interesting conundrum though, as he is currently confounded as to why people (like me) who dislike the Prequels would still collect prequel figures and toys.  Similary, we should probably nip it in the bud and also address why folks would buy any of the EU figures if they didn't like the book or game from which the characters came, or havenít even read or played it for that matter.

Any takers?  As for me, as I've previously posted, I do it for the sake of maintaining a complete 4Ē collection, on top of the fact that I just like most of the figures regardless of movie or source of origin.  In all of the other Star Wars lines I collect (GG, etc), Iíve always gone OT-only though.  But since I've dug the 4Ē line since 1978, and it's relatively cheap (current distribution issues aside), Iíve decided to grab the prequel stuff along the way too, even if their inspiration comes from 2.5 movies that I donít particularly care for.  As for EU, other than the Thrawn trilogy and SOTE, Iíve never read any Star Wars EU, and Iíve only played a handful of the SW video games, but I really dig the vast majority of EU figures.  I guess I look at the Hasbro line as part of the overall SW "toy saga" which I enjoy in it's entirety, but a somewhat separate entity from the movie saga (which I only enjoy 58.3% of the time), so I collect the prequel (and EU) stuff almost as happily as the OT swag.

[Tangent]Regarding collecting in general, on a broader level, Iíll occasionally purchase stuff I donít necessarily love for my movie and music collections, just to make them more well-rounded.  Iíve taken to trying to ďcollectĒ each Blu-ray from BOMís Top 200 adjusted list, though thereís actually a small handful that Iím struggling with that I may wind up passing on.  I'll grab random Jazz and Classical CDs from time to time too, even though I don't love those genres, and have to be in exactly the right mood to listen to them.  I also collect U.S. and Int'l coins, including some from countries that I didn't particularly enjoy, and many that have some ridiculously lame designs on them.  I guess my point is that to me, well-rounded and interesting collections should contain a wide array of items within them: Bizarre, cool, ugly, unusual, popular, random, despised, etc.[tangent/]

So, who else is in the boat of disliking the Prequels (or EU), but collecting their respective figures/toys, and how come?  Also, folks who have ditched the PT figures somewhere along the way should feel free to chime in too since you were obviously at one point in this club as well, before ďseeing the lightĒ (or just running out of space, as the more frequent case may be).

Honestly, I'm surprised that anyone's surprised by this.  It's status quo now that whenever the CBA (or equivalent thereof) expires in any of the four major sports, it's strike/lock-out time.  I mean, seriously, when's the last time one of the "Big 4" sports seemlessly negotiated through one of these things without any disruption?  NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL...  I can't recall the last time it happened.

Greed, money, and ego.  It's the (North?) American way!  8)

These things are now officially shelf warming at several of our local WMs, as I suspected they might.  Now the question is how long 'til the clearance sales start, especially since they take up such a sizeable chunk of shelf space.

Oh no!!!  The world is ending!

Wait a minute...the MTT is a prequel vehicle, and you hate the prequels, right?   ???

8 days to jump on that one?  You're losing your touch, FG.  But since Iíve already answered that question several times, I won't bother to do so again here.  How about instead of being a troll, you just go start a thread asking folks here why they collect prequel figures/toys if they generally dislike the prequels?  I know thereís quite a few in the same boat.  You can even use me as an example, if youíd like.  (Yes, I know you honestly don't care one iota how/what others here at JD collect, but please, feel free to play along.)

EDIT:  Here, I took the liberty and went ahead and got the ball rolling for you.  Feel free to work your magic in there now.

Got it.  I figured as much.  Just wanted to make sure I wasn't overlooking anything as far as getting my To-Do checklist in order for these guys.  I'm still interested to see if these are eventually going to make their way out to the West Coast as well.  Might have a slightly better chance of picking them up if they do.

Watto's Junk Yard / Re: Cars: Lease or buy?
« on: September 13, 2012, 04:31 AM »
Well, as far as "buy big", in my opinion that's what our house is for.  It (usually) appreciates, where a car starts depreciating the moment you drive it off the lot (assuming it's not a vintage/collectible car, obviously).  Owning something that just depreciates year after year 'til there's only a few grand left in it doesn't feel overly worthwhile to me anymore, to be honest.  Plus, to me our cars start to look and feel pretty dated by the time they're paid off in 5 -6 years.  Maybe we're just becoming snobs in our old age now, I dunno.

Like I said, we've still got 3 months to think about it, so maybe now that I've got a little info to start me off, we'll head on over to a couple dealerships soon and see what's what, and take it from there.  Thanks again!

Bleh.  This thread should've been locked after the first post!  Get all our hopes up like that.  Animated Ewoks...  Argh!

Adam: Tonnika Sisters and/or Disney astromechs next time, please.  Thank you.

Ok - here are the pics of my droids - sorry there are so many...

Phew!!! 98 Droids done (49 in clamshell, 49 open)

Ridiculous pix there Pete.  Well done!  I've gotta ask though, how did you come up with the various droid "designs" on some of them?  I have a pic of all 71 pieces where I've laid out the various designs I want to eventually make out of this line, but I've only chosen to make 25 different droids - 1 for each unique dome, matched up to like colors as best as possible for the remaining pieces.

For example, in your R9s, why the blue-domed yellow bodied guy?  Short on specific pieces, or just artistic licensing on your part, or was there a strategy to shoot for six per on most types?  Just curious.  I love that you've got so many different flavors, as I was having trouble on selecting a small handful of my choices (red head with red body or white body w/ red trim, for example).  You've got 'em both in there so it gives me a good visual idea of which setup I'd prefer.  Thanks!

There's been no clue that it's Tonnika's that I recall...  I think he was just adding to the fun of the thread.

Don't tease, especially on such iconic, if not X-files-esque mysterious, hold-outs of the line such as these two space hookers!  That said, after pronouncing myself more than willing to drop $25 on Jocasta, considering she's one of the few minor (speaking) characters left to be made, I certainly have to be willing to stomach the same amount for 2 far more "important" OT characters remaining from one of our favorite scenes (especially from an action figure / diorama standpoint).  I'd definitely be disgusted by the price again, but I'd still drop $50 x2 in a heartbeat for a couple pairs of these ladies that I never expected to see the light of plastic (that doesn't make sense, I know).  Hell, if they never get made, I'll probably be dropping $75 - $100 on nice customs for each one just to fill the gaping Cantina holes anyway, much like I used to in the post-Kenner days of the vintage line (Sandtrooper, Tarkin, Slave Leia, etc).  So even at a ridiculously lofty $50 a pop, I'll still be saving money.

I'd still prefer my aformentioned Disney astromechs though.  I just wish EE would hurry up and at least divulge the licensee so we could could move on from all this (hopeful) figure speculation, if it winds up "just" being a Gentle Giant product instead.

Here's one more thought on the potential Tonnika Sisters: What if they came with the Cantina's distillery section finally...  That'd be a much easier $50 to stomach, eh?   8)

No doubt Denver's D kept them in most of those games long enough for Tebow to pull yet another miracle out of his ass.  I certainly wasn't suggesting he get all the credit for what they accomplished last season.  Considering I'm not even a Broncos fan, I just didn't want to type out a full expose on their season, though statistically their D wasn't even ranked in the top half of the league.

As for the Ravens, anyone who QBs under Ray Lewis's watch is going to look good/succeed.  As for Dilfer, I enjoyed watching him as a commentator.  Amusing guy.

I'm either totally nuts or just bored with the lack of new product, but I've started collecting this little guys this week

Bad idea.  But I'll guess bored and nuts.  ;)

To be honest, I briefly contemplated it myself, for the same reasons I think.  But collecting a line with blind and/or chase figures can make one's life miserable (as you know).  As if the 4" line wasn't accomplishing that well enough these days.  You realize Hasbro now owns you twice over, and considering the way they've been pimping the schizz out of this line in the past year, I think you're gonna have your work cut out for you for a few years to come in keeping up with these little buggers.  This is the kind of line I'd normally wait to run it's course, and then keep an eye out for complete sets on eBay for a few hundred bucks later on, or at least an OT only set.  That was a better method to the madness with the SWM lines at least.

I was actually coming in here to mention that I saw a huge set of these (with 4 ships) at Costco last week amongst the X-mas toy swag.  Can't recall the price right now, but it was obviously very reasonable (maybe $30ish).  Wondered if this might entice others to delve into the madness while loading up on way more coffee and fabric softener than they could ever need.

Yep, $30.  Here's a pic from RS:

I still can't find any "new" TVC (or CW) figures, but I've managed to track down nearly every other new item (and extras) that I need over the past week: K-mart AT-ST, Maul Returns BP, TRU Speeder Bikes & add'l Ewok & Pilot sets, and the MTT at WM.  Nice to find some new stuff out there, but with the exception of the Ewok & AT-ST Driver 2-pks coming to K-mart soon, there's not much else on the horizon.  It looks like I'll probably be heading back into another 6 month dry spell now.
