Revenge of the Sith / Re: ROTS Recent Purchases
« on: August 5, 2005, 09:53 AM »
Last night went into the Manahawkin, NJ WalMart to find that there was a freight pallet with two Collection 1, Wave 6 cases. One case had already been opened and all of the clones were removed.

The second case had been so badly crushed that length-wise, the case itself was now an inch shorter. However, it hadn't been opened up, so I cut into it.

There was 1 each of Pilot Obi-Wan, AT-RT Driver and Green Clone Commander.

There was a #6 Quick Draw Clone in there but it wasn't the Shocktrooper Red Variant, it was all white.

I can sorta live with the paint-op variants, but why make it so not everyone of these new cases has the new Red Shocktrooper?

So I grabbed these three figures and then left.

This morning I went to the Brick, NJ WalMart and my friend who works for Hasbro was there. He was glad to see me 'cause he had the goods for me.

An employee at this store was taking all of the Red Shocktroopers OUT of the cases and putting back in another Vader or Yoda or Grievous figure in it's place. So he found a case with six Red Shocktroopers in it. Four AT-RT Drivers and Four Green Clone Commanders. Another guy who we both know came in shortly after me and we split everything up amongst us.

So between the two trips here's what I was able to get:

2x Pilot Obi-Wan
3x AT-RT Driver
2x Clone #6 (Red Shocktrooper Variant)
2x Clone Commander #33 (Green Variant)

Saga Collection '06 / Re: EE Exclusive Astromech 5-Packs
« on: August 5, 2005, 09:46 AM »
This set is so overpriced it's not even funny.

Adam Pawlus should be ashamed of himself for even promoting this set as something that "everyone" is going to "love"

$40 for FIVE repaints with absolutely NO accessories and NO new sculpting.

At most these sets should cost $30 if you buy ONE and then go down from there if you purchase them by the case.

Sure I'm bitching and I'll eventually put in my order, but I won't be doing for these what I did for the clones, which was buy an entire case - that's another ridiculous thing - a case of these is 5 sets of two?!?!?!!? Four sure, 'cause then I could buddy up with someone like Matt who might want two of each set, but FIVE?

I'm more inclined to just take it up the ass and get two of the two-packs for $74.99 each. At least then you get a $2.50 on each set of five.

I wish Hasbro would put an end to this ****. This is price gouging at its best and eventually it's going to drive even the most die-hard of collectors away from the line.

Compared to the way things were in 1995, there are so many OTHER collectible items competing for our Star Wars dollars, you would think Hasbro would be doing this to make sure the collectors stay, not things that make the collectors want to jump ship and move to collecting something else.

Look at it this way. If you're like me and you get two of everything, these two sets will cost $150 plus shipping. Why not take that same money and buy the first three SideShow Toys 12" figures which are supposed to be at most $50 each. Sure, I'm going to do both, 'cause I'm nuts. But if I was in a cash crunch, I'd pick the 12" figures from Sideshow Toys.

DP - definitely keep us apprised of what you find out from Hasbro. I think ALL of the TRU Exclusive Blue Jedi Starfighter w/Obi-Wan sets come with the sticker sheet from the Anakin regular release Jedi Starfighter.

I didn't apply on mine the kill sticker or any of the additional "damage/wear" stickers.

I did put the emblem for Obi-Wan's Open-Circle fleet on as well as the Republic/Empire logo.

Just so the R4 droid had SOMETHING on him, I went ahead and applied the R2 stickers, but I'm hoping that we'll be able to ask Hasbro to send us replacement sheets and I can just remove those stickers and apply the new ones.

If I was an exec at TRU and I found out about this, I'd be pissed that an exclusive we were offering wasn't 100% perfect.

The thing I find weird is that the stickers for the TRU Green Anakin fighter came with the stickers pre-applied. I wonder why they DIDN'T do this for this vehicle? Typically a retailer exclusive vehicle in a window-box will have all decals applied.

Revenge of the Sith / Re: Captain Antilles... He Sorta Sucks
« on: August 4, 2005, 12:14 PM »
This figure blows. I wish they had just made the mods to the Bail Organa body and stuck the Antilles head on him. There was no need for a completely new (and inferior) sculpt.

Yesterday I grabbed #51 - #53. The only good figure in this batch (IMHO) is the Utapau Warrior - grabbed two of those to open so Tion Meddon wouldn't be so lonely.

The Zett Jukassa was nicely painted but I would have liked this character to have the same articulation as the other Collection 2 Jedi. It's almost like Hasbro's saying "We're throwing George a bone so his son can have an action figure, but we're not going overboard on making it a GOOD figure, 'cause we're jealous that we can't have action figures made of ourselves." Perhaps I've over-analyzing, but knee joints and ball jointed shoulders would have gone a LONG way with this figure.

Captain Antilles just flat out sucks like everyone else here has been saying. Why the didn't just modify the torso of Bail Organa and use that as the body is beyond my comprehension.

Matt hooked me up with my Holo Leia opener! Thanks dude!

More to come since he's setting his sights on picking up my two sets of Star Tours Wave 4 figures!

Ok - I hope this is THE feedback thread for Travis...

Anyway - I received SUPER FAST payment from him for the Anakin Evolutions and 500th Vader sets I picked up for him.

I would definitely recommend working out a trade or sale with Travis!

Picked Obi-Wan's Blue Jedi Starfighter at TRU today. This was at the TRU in Eatontown, NJ -- they had a stack of 'em, I would estimate about 20 or so. So I'm set with my two... Now if I could just find some new basic figures!

Revenge of the Sith / Re: Target DPCI Number Reboot?
« on: July 29, 2005, 04:27 PM »
I went to Target today and punched in several different DCPI#'s (500th Vader, Evolutions set, and then a couple of random DCPI#'s - a bag of chips, and a headset) - NONE of them worked.  The scanners worked and if you scanned the product, it would show if they had any in the back as well as the price, however if you entered any DCPI#, "ITEM NOT FOUND" came up.
I asked an employee to use one of their mobile scanner things, but I guess it's linked up to the price scanners because it came up ITEM NOT FOUND as well.  I think they're updating their system or something - it doesn't seem to be related at all to collectibles.

Actually no - in NJ and in other parts of the country, Target stores have BLOCKED the ability to punch in DPCI numbers via both the Price Scanner Key-Pads and the Inventory Guns.

This is why we're posting the DPCI BarCodes and the UPC BarCodes - with these in your hand, you can use the price scanner as you used to, only now you just scan to get the info instead of entering the DPCI number.

The 1:18 stuff is awesome.  Now why is it so hard for Hasbro to do something like this?  >:(

Let's examine that:

1) Design skills are required on the part of the team developing such accessory type toys.  Hasbro doesn't seem to be in possession of such skills.

2) The accessories need to be scaled to the figure and to each other. When building a diorama piece-by-piece, each piece must be consistent with the other. Hasbro hasn't been able to maintain the scale of Luke Skywalker figures, what makes you think they could come out with an entire line of diorama building stuff that's all at the same scale.

3) The company making such a line needs to be in-touch with the wants and needs of the collector community as a whole. For example, military figure collectors may want to set up a WW2 war-torn street diorama, so you develop all of the pieces necessary. For Hasbro, the SW collecting community would LOVE to collect an a-la-carte Death Star playset, yet Hasbro is SO FAR out of touch they don't understand the market demand for a Death Star playset exists.

4) The company needs to make the determination what their distribution model is. Whether that be selling the items via the web or getting the regular brick-and-mortar stores to carry them. This company obviously feels that they can market and sell their stuff through their website and most likely print-ads in magazines. Hasbro on the other hand likes to be Target/WalMart's PRISON BITCH - so they bend over and take whatever the big chains want to shove where the sun don't shine, end customer be damned.

I think that about sums it up why you'll never see Hasbro do something like this Chewie.

Somehow, I'm guessing that they only disabbled the stock check feature for toys.

And you know what - they probably did.

This is ridiculous, why are toy collectors/buyers treated any differently then other customers?

Don't they realize they wouldn't have us resorting to these measures if (a) they just stocked the shelves and (b) they didn't let managers do side-deals with local scalpers out the back door.

I had a VERY long conversation with a Target public relations manager  who was located at their headquarters in MN.  The policy, according to this person is that IF there is space on the shelves AND they have more product in the back, they are required to bring out the new stock.

If they have stock on the pegs for say Collection 2 and the Collection 1 figure pegs are empty and there's more in the back, since they have a different DPCI number, they are obligated to stock those pegs.

If on the other hand, the pegs for Collection 1 are full, don't expect them to bring out more Collection 1 just 'cause you ask.

This is a fair policy and in a time of product drought, the second condition doesn't even factor-in.

So I would (a) print out the DPCI codes I posted above, (b) get the scanners to acknowlege they have more of a certain item in stock; (c) call on the nearest customer service phone to toys; (d) tell the employee who comes up that, in accordance to Target policy you want X-peg/Y-shelf space filled with the corresponding item since there are no more items on the floor and they have more in the back.

Pure and simple - they can't tell you no. If they ask how you know there's more stuff in the back, simply tell them that the price scanner told you that was the case. There's no need to elaborate on HOW you got the scanner to tell you that.

Well - I used all of the scanned Target DPCI barcodes and UPC barcodes that I have posted recently at my local Target in Brick, NJ this morning and they all worked like a champ!

So basically, the next step is that Jared is going to help me get the hi-res versions posted somewhere either here at JD or on another site and we'll post the links to where you can download them from.

I was looking at this thread from my BlackBerry last night and I noticed how clearly the UPC BarCodes show up on the screen - I think my next "experiment" will be to see if I can get the Target price scanner to respond to a UPC BarCode displayed from my BlackBerry!

Also - over the weekend I'll scan in the UPC BarCodes for the BattlePacks and the Cups.

- Peter

Well - I ordered myself two from SWS just now.

I may regret it when I see it available at a much cheaper price somewhere else. However, I know for a fact that somewhere else won't be a local comic-book (i.e. brick-and-mortar scalper) shop.

Perhaps Entertainment Earth will sell it for less, but I doubt it.

Ok - sorry for the heavy duty graphics, but here are some scans I completed today:

Hasbro UPC Codes:

Target DPCI Codes:

I've printed these all out from 300dpi TIF versions and I'm going to try them out. If they do work, I'll upload .zip archives containing those tifs to my AOL myspace or somewhere else that will host the files so everyone can download them, print them out and beat Target at their own game!

If they took the blasters away (which never should have been in there in the first place) - why did they leave it so the tray has space for them? They should have changed the tray to just have the figure standing in the center of the bubble, facing forward.

Pretty sloppy IMHO.
