Revenge of the Sith / Re: More Target Exclusives?
« on: April 24, 2005, 08:25 AM »
Can anyone confirm that the DPCI number from the first page of this thread is accurate: 087-06-1489 - I need that to start digging at my local Targets - they will most likely let it rot in the back until the employees have had plenty of time to dig through the cases.

So tomorrow morning, I'm going to try that DPCI # and see if they have any in stock. This is something to remember at ALL Target stores.

Target has a policy on bringing stuff out - it basically says that (a) they can not search for specific stuff and (b) they can not bring stuff out that is already well stocked.

Here are some ways around it though, and I know this is dirty pool, but Target is really starting to piss me off again...

1) Collect figures on pegs until there are a couple of pegs completely empty of either Collection 1 or 2 figures. If you have a Target with a price scanner that will indicate what's in stock - check before you start doing this, there's no point in freeing up a peg or two of C2 figures if they only have more C1 in stock.

After you've freed up some pegs, find the nearest assistance phone and press one - this will make a "Target Team Member" come running. When they get there, take them to where you have just made empty pegs and ask them to fill the empty pegs. They will do it! If you want to be EXTRA bold, ask them to stock it from the most recent location - each location has a date attached to it referring to when it came into the store - just politely ask them to pull from that location and you might hit pay-dirt.

2) This will only work if your Targets have a price scanner that allows you to punch in numbers. Go to the scanner and start punching in the numbers of stuff that isn't on the shelves. Things like the exclusive clone (087-06-1489) or the Mustafar playset (087-06-1334). If the item shows up as in stock. You can again, call on a customer service phone and then give them the DPCI number and explain to them that NONE of that variety/item is on the shelves. I would say that 9 times out of 10, they will go get it for you.

I used this method to buy the Deluxe figures and the Mid-size vehicles early.

Like I said, I know that it's dirty pool, but I still fail to understand why it is that Target is like they are regarding bringing stuff out. They have categorized Star Wars figures in the same group as Hot Wheels - this is something I find completely ridiculous. All of my Target stores have a "limit number of purchase per person" sign up, but I have yet to see anyone get turned away if they wanted to buy 10 figures.

Out of all of the chains, Target is also the place where I've run into the most unreasonable or jerkish deputy managers who are responsible for the area that includes Toys. When I see things like entire cases of these clones on eBay, I can't help but wonder why these guys seem to guard the product like it's gold that I'm trying to steal. The only reason I can figure is that they have an agreement with some local comic book shop guy who buys stuff from them directly from the back and gives them a kick-back for holding the stuff for them.

Revenge of the Sith / Re: Anakin Starfighter Exclusive?
« on: April 23, 2005, 08:50 AM »
Just as a side-note to this exclusive. The Jedi Starfighter that Anakin takes to Mustafar is described in the novell as being Green & White.

So I guess this is a movie accurate version afterall - Anakin must take someone else's fighter when his and Obi-Wans end up trashed in the opening sequence.

Revenge of the Sith / Re: "Evolutions" assortment...
« on: April 22, 2005, 05:08 PM »
I'm thrilled that these Evolutions packs will contain figures of VOTC quality!

Finally some nice PT product.

Now we DEFINITELY need an Evolutions Padme set!

According to the RS Q&A posting the following is TRUE!!!!

The Darth Vader Celebration III figure will be available online after the show

YES!!!!

Finally some sanity to this - I guess they either made WAY more of the Vader figure than they did of Jorg Sacul OR the figure isn't selling as well as Sacul did and they anticipate having plenty of extras....

Great news indeed!

Revenge of the Sith / Re: Evolution: Silver now Holo
« on: April 22, 2005, 10:33 AM »
Ok - this is going to sound stupid but, where did this figure come from?

Who's going to have it as an exclusive, how much, when is it available?

The thing that is starting to freak me out re: the stuff shown at CIII is that labels on stuff that I didn't even think were out yet are indicating "AVAIL: NOW" - which to me means Available Now! Stuff like:

Target Exclusive SA Clone
TRU Exclusive Jedi Starfighter w/Anakin
Unleashed Wave 2

etc...

2766
Yeah - these are pretty lame - I guess Hasbro and Target are trying to edge ProTech (and other similar companies) out of the Market.

I could NEVER see a kid in the toy aisle ask for this $10 in lieu of getting either (a) another two figures or (b) another toy from another toy line altogether. It just does not make sense - time to invoke the "Chewbacca Defense"

"look at the silly monkey... look at the monkey!"

Revenge of the Sith / Re: ROTS Recent Purchases
« on: April 22, 2005, 10:10 AM »
Picked up Vader's Medical Droid, AT-TE Tank Gunner, Polis Massan and Mas Amedda at a Kohls on Wednesday - they had the price of the figures down from $7.99 to $5.99.

I bought two each of the Medical Droid, Polis Massan and Mas Amedda and then I grabbed all six of the AT-TE tank gunners they had.

Revenge of the Sith / Re: More Target Exclusives?
« on: April 22, 2005, 10:06 AM »
If you look at the picture of this in the image archive from CIII - the tag in front of the figure says that the suggested retail price is $9.99 - so it turns out that Target has gotten greedy and tacked on another $3?

Does anyone have a DPCI number for this thing or is it under the same number as Lava Vader....

This would make sense then why Target has on their planogram the space for an exclusive figure at $12.99 price point.

I sure as heck hope there are more of these then there are of the Lava Vaders!

Revenge of the Sith / Re: ROTS variation/error thread
« on: April 22, 2005, 09:56 AM »
There's a new variation shown of there @ rebelscum that is a basic Ani with a Dooku lightsaber

I just took a look at the picture and by bs-dectector went off...

If the toy came with a hand molded with a Dooku lightsaber in it THEN I would be convinced. However, the left hand can not hold anything and the Dooku lightsaber is just a lightsaber (i.e. no hand molded to it) so there's no way to have the Anakin figure hold BOTH sabers like he does in the movie.

If the figure came with a flesh hand molded with the Dooku lightsaber and you could put that hand on Anakin's left arm then YES it would definitely be a variant.

As it stands now this looks like someone bought both Dooku and Anakin and then put the Dooku lightsaber into the Anakin package.

That leaves 1% still Pete... what would you account for the last percentage point?   :)

 :P

I dunno - I was trying not to be too nerdy by putting one of my percentages at 34%...

I would say that the last 1% would account for frustration.

Jocasta's Reading Room / Re: ROTS Novel (Spoilers)
« on: April 19, 2005, 06:25 PM »
I'm 3/4 of the way through - so I'll comment on a couple of your points...

1) I was surprised to find out that the space battle, duel with Dooku, confrontation with Grevious, rescue of Palpatine and crash of the ship took up 100+ pages in the book. I thought all of that stuff was supposed to take place in like 20 minutes of the movie! If the movie is two hours long, why does a segment that is only 1/6th of the movie taking up 1/4 of the book?

So my point here is that I think the author decided to focus on the core dynamic of the movie. It's great eye candy that Yoda goes to Kashyyk and first helps the Wookies repell the CIS invasion force and then the Wookies help him escape his clones when they go Order 66 on him. So again, the author may have chosen to focus on Anakin, Obi-Wan, Palpatine and Mace instead and decided to expand on events surrounding those characters instead of scenes that are in ROTS for fan-boy placation and ILM to pound their chest proclaiming "Look What We Can Do!" - just a thought...and this goes on further to #2....

2) I think the deaths of other Jedi around the galaxy at the hands of their clone charges will be handled quickly in the movie as well - we really only need brief establishing shots and then see the clones fire on the Jedi. This is something I can see a book glossing over easily (and remember I haven't gotten there in the book yet) since the book can have some narrative explaining that the extinguishing of Jedi around the galaxy is felt by Yoda - in a movie you can't really express what a character is feeling except through dialogue or action - so the best substitution would be to show quick scenes of Jedi dying.

3) You are right, I too was surprised at how much of a "jerk" Mace Windu is portrayed as. The book gives you insight into the mind of Anakin and Obi-Wan, perhaps the portrayal of Mace is further enhanced by how Anakin feels about the way Mace is acting towards him or the secrets Mace is forcing Obi-Wan to keep. In reading the book you definitely feel like Mace is squeezing both Anakin and Obi-Wan REALLY hard and is almost the true reason why everything transpires as it does. However the book also is clear to bring up a couple of other points:

a) The dark side is making things incredibly difficult for the Jedi, even going as far as tainting some of the Jedi through confusion - the Dark Side is definitely working against Mace and he is definitely fighting on a daily basis from giving into the fear of losing control

and

b) Palaptine, several times, reminds Anakin that those who have power are always afraid to loose it. So I think the book is trying to show that what Palpatine is saying is on one hand subterfuge of the Sith, but on the other hand there is a kernal of truth. Just like when Dooku tried to convince Obi-Wan to join him to bring down the Sith in AOTC. Dooku's mojo didn't work on Obi-Wan, but Palpatine's is DEFINITELY working on Anakin.

My BIGGEST disappointment, and again I haven't finished so it still a possibility, was that we didn't learn that the death of Shmi was orchestrated by the Sith.

I would have thought that in ROTS we learned that Sidious (who the book says HAS been working grooming Anakin as his next apprentice, which we already knew) had Dooku arrange for the Tusken Raiders to kidnap and torture his mother. A tactic that Darth Vader uses in ESB when he tortures Han, Leia and Chewie to draw out Luke. It would definitely be an interesting connection between trilogies to see that a common tool of the Sith when trying to trap or turn a Jedi is to torture those the Jedi cares about. An excellent place for this to come up is in the beginning. Obviously through the shadow of the Dark Side, Sidious talks to Dooku right before he starts to fight Anakin and Obi-Wan, through Palpatine. It would have been easy to have Sidious instruct Dooku to tell Anakin that he was behind the death of his mother. This would have fueled Anakin's rage towards Dooku and he would have even more easily given in to his anger when he faced Dooku - which in turn would have furthered his advance towards the dark side.

Gosh darn Star Cases!

I want to see new figures, open your toys people.   :)

 :P

I do! But I still keep a complete set of everything locked in plastic hell!  ;D

For me, I would say that 33% of the collecting experience is the hunt. 33% is having a complete (for a moment) collection and the final 33% is getting that second set to open, play with a little, and display.

Modern Trading / Re: Attacktix Trading

In my wildest dreams I could buy 15 boosters and get all the super rares.   :P  But that won't happen as I've gotten 3 General Grievious.   ???

Yeah - I know - the super rare I've gotten the most of is a tie between Chewbacca and Commander Gree - I've gotten three of each of them. I've also gotten two Anakins, two Obi-Wans, two Shaak Tis, two Darth Vaders and two Nute Gunrays...

grrrr.....

Still don't have a Yoda though!

2774
I'm reading the book right now and I have to say that I am totally looking forward to this movie. Even more so than I was looking forward to AOTC. I read the book for that before I saw that one as well.

I do still go on daily toy runs into stores going to and coming from work - still hoping to find figures #37 - #40! If I could just find those four figures twice over, I could really take a break for a while since I've found just about everything else that's been released.

Revenge of the Sith / Re: Eopie - ROTS style
« on: April 18, 2005, 05:08 PM »
I too have longed for this beast of burden to be re-packed/re-released in some form or another.

I was only able to pick up one of these on eBay and I paid roughly $45 for it - for my MOC/MIB collection I can justify such an expense. For my opened set of stuff - I unfortunately can not. So in order for me to get an opened Eopie, Hasbro is going to have to re-issue it.

Personally, I think a beast set with an Eopie, Obi-Wan in robe and a baby Luke is a NO BRAINER.
