Revenge of the Sith / Re: The Final 12
« on: July 14, 2005, 07:22 AM »
Remember the scene in a Jedi conference room midway through the film, which Cody interrupts to report that Obi-Wan has engaged Grievous, and the Jedi then discuss their plan of action vis a vis Palpatine?

EDIT P.S.: Earlier somebody mentioned (maybe JediMAC, I'm too tired and lazy to go back and look) the idiocy of the seeming randomness on the numbering. Why do THESE repaints get new numbers, while the recently announced clone repaints do NOT? Just makes it so much more diffcult to keep track of. In my book, they should all get new numbers.

Yeah - I remember the scene - it was supposed to be longer than what we saw even - Aayla was supposed to have one or two quick lines so I guess it's okay - I would just rather have holograms so I could re-create a ROTS Council Scene.

I think that was me commenting on why the Red ShockTrooper Repaint, the Green Clone Commander and the Black ClonePilot all have their original numbers, yet these 12, since Hasbro is heralding them as the next 12 figures in the line, I don't understand why figures like the Commander Gree, 501st Legion Trooper, Nemoidian Warrior, Wookie Warriors, astromechand hologram Jedi are all getting new figure numbers. They should just be variants of the already released figure, 'cause that's all they are.

So either give every variant a new number or stick with what they've been doing and having the Royal Guard Red/Blue variants be one number, the Tan/Brown Wookie Warrior are one number, etc...

You know something just occurred to me - they DIDN'T give the Royal Guard variants their own individual numbers, yet they're going to give a repainted Wookie Warrior a NEW Number?!?!?!?! To quote C-3PO, "This is madness!"

According to the Sideshow Toys 12" figure line press release, DePriest is the head of the Star Wars brand at Hasbro.

He probably doesn't show his face at events like SDCC anyway. So we'd just end up maiming some of his lackeys.

Revenge of the Sith / Re: TRU Exclusive Holographic Emperor
« on: July 14, 2005, 12:55 AM »
I definitely understand your take on it Jeff - you're right we did get that Holo Emperor from StarWarsShop just last year. That figure though, I kinda view as a celebration of GL changing monkey-eye-old-woman-face Emperor for the guy who played Palpatine in four other movies - definitely a welcome change IMHO.

I view this figure in the same context as as the Holo Yoda - a nice way to add some variety to a diorama - like for example, you could use this figure in a diorama that shows Bly gunning down Aayla Secura or in a diorama that shows Bacarra gunning down Ki-Adi Mundi.

I actually like this figure too - if they do finally decide to make a Commander Cody figure - I still think one of his accessories should be a mini holo-projector with a mini holo Emperor Palpatine, but that's just me.

With the number of times he appeared as a hologram, this is a no brainer.

People hate the statue 3.75 figures already, what's making them out of metal going to do for us?  Give us something with substantial weight to throw at people?

What a GREAT idea!

Ok - I propose a JediDefender field trip for EVERYONE here to attend SDCC 2006 - we'll all get a Titanium Forged *snicker* Boba Fett and then when the Hasbro team starts their panel on stage, we'll all throw them at them!

Sounds like fun to me!

Might ACTUALLY get the point across if we hit that Derryl DePriest guy in the head enough times!  ;D

Saga Collection '06 / Re: The Future of Star Wars Collecting
« on: July 14, 2005, 12:28 AM »
Hey Nathan - believe me, I'm in this for the long haul all the way until 2018 if need be. So I don't want to see Hasbro run the line into the ground at all....

I'm just seeing too many parallels between how the final years of the Playmates Star Trek line and how the SW line is being handled.

If anyone recalls, the end of the Playmates Trek line was heralded by a series of exclusives - and where were these exclusives? At Target stores of course!

Thankfully, TRU still seems to be onboard with the Battlepacks and things like the second Obi-Wan Starfighter so hopefully things aren't down for the count just yet.

Also if the rumors of newly sculpted Bib Fortuna, Leia in Boushh disguise and Han Solo thawing from the carbonite are true - that's going to make for a GREAT wave - almost like a 2/3 year gap follow-on to the Saga Jabba Waves that were also really good (IMHO).

Revenge of the Sith / Re: Millennium Falcon In ROTS Packaging?
« on: July 14, 2005, 12:22 AM »
Actually if you take a really good look at the packaging, while the Star Wars logo is in the same color as the ROTS stuff, the packaging front doesn't really have the Lava Artwork that's prevelent on all of the ROTS vehicles. In fact the "shown in fantasy situation" artwork on the front shows the MF evading TIE Fighters in orbit of the Death Star.

I guess that's more exciting than "Here's the MF parked at a docking station, motionless with the landing gear down, and HEY it's a scene from ROTS!" Doesn't have the same ring huh?

A while back I reported that the local Hasbro rep told me that Target exclusive figures at the $12.99 price point was on the Target SW planograms all the way until the fall.

This explains why that's the case - these figures will be $12.99 each, packed in the clamshells and since they aren't really army builders, will HOPEFULLY be easy to acquire.

Jeff needs to get hopping and get us some new DPCI numbers for Target - we need these figures and the Plo Koon starfighter!  ;D

Revenge of the Sith / Re: Secret Figures!?
« on: July 14, 2005, 12:15 AM »
The whole idea of there being "Secret" figures is amusing to me. Why make something like a LOGICAL repaint (Shociktrooper) a "secret"? It's almost like we're kids and Hasbro is the scummy perve who hangs around the playground and tells the kids "Hey, I have a secret in my pants, why don't you reach in and grab it" - it might be something good - but chances are it's not.  ;)

Now - before anyone writes "where the hell did that come from?" - just thought I'd let everyone know that even I don't know where that came from - my mind is fried it's 12:15 AM locally and I'm still ranting about these pitiful excuses for "new" figures.

Hah!

Revenge of the Sith / Re: KB 9-pack Exclusive w/ Silver Vader
« on: July 14, 2005, 12:12 AM »
And they better NOT even think about mixing up those two colors within the various sets...  >:(

Yeah - Matt - I had you in mind too when I was typing out of disgust the possibility of there being TWO versions of this set with the two different guards. The only redeeming feature is in the packaging itself. If you keep going through the GH pics, you'll see there's a shot of the back of the box and the picture for the Royal Guard clearly shows ONLY the Blue version unlike the picture used for the insert of figure #23 - which has both the Red and Blue versions of the character pictured.

So hopefully I'll only have to get one of this $50 turd - I would like to have a second one just to have the THIRD Silver Vader opened as well as MIB, but that's a tad bit pricey. I'll wait til my local KB has it clearanced down to $10 and then I'll buy it!  ;D

Original Trilogy Collection / Re: Star Tours Wave 4
« on: July 14, 2005, 12:08 AM »
If anyone knows of an easy way to get these figures online or somewhere else I would appreciate it if you could let us know.

I need two each of these things and to pay inflated prices on eBay just kills me.

3267
do these figures have articulation?

The Boba Fett doesn't appear to - perhaps the shoulder joint will allow you to rotate his left arm - but without the gun positioned just so, the left arm looks pretty stupid.

Hey - does anyone think that this will be the replacement for Unleashed? A 3.75" scaled high-end die-cast figure line. They could still be two-packs (at an even higher price point).

Whatever this line is, it is destined to fail.

Revenge of the Sith / Re: ROTS - #57 and beyond
« on: July 13, 2005, 11:55 PM »
Hasbro better show us some new stuff. Other wise this line is going to seriously need some POTJ-esq damage control.

It's going to need more than that - the POTJ line was in response to retailers becoming gun-shy regarding ordering TPM product and some even saying "Hey, where's toys based on the original trilogy?"

The end of the line for TPM wasn't bad at all in terms of reduced quality of figures - it suffered mainly due to lack of retail availability. Look at figures like Swimming Jar Jar, Sio Bibble, the second Naboo Soldier/Guard and Holo Sidious - all good figures in their own rights for the time, yet they were next to impossible to find. The POTJ line merely upped the anty on how good the figures COULD be and presented a line that represented EPs 1, 4, 5 & 6 with a nice mix of figures.

Perhaps the really good stuff will come when we see the figures that will be in the returning OTC style packaging. These 12/15 repaint figures are just to lengthen the stay of the ROTS at retail and this was a cheap way for Hasbro to pump out more ROTS product w/o developing "new" molds 'cause they've already moved on to what's new for 2006.

3269
So is the 12" line going to reboot or is Sideshow going to pick up where Hasbro left off? There's still plenty of possibilities without re-making a lot of the 12" figures already out there.

From reading the release it looks like Sideshow Toys is indeed partnering with Hasbro in order to make the 12" line - so I wonder if Hasbro is going to be reselling the figures designed and manufactured by Sideshow toys or (and I'm praying to god here that it comes true) are we going to just be able to order our 12" SW figures directly from Sideshow's website? Please oh please let that be a possibility!

3270
Thanks for the merger Jesse. The Boba Fett doesn't even look good IMHO - check this pic out:

GH Forged Fett #2

To me a line like this is starting to get into the realm of competing against the Bust Ups and other Gentle Giant product. Hasbro should stick to TOYS not try to compete against other license holders.

I mean look at the latest development on the 12" front - Sideshow is taking over the scale - they probably had to pay Hasbro for the rights to do it too - while I'm not thrilled at a 12" line "reboot" - I'm positive Sideshow will product a higher quality (at albeit a higher price) than Hasbro EVER did.

Why can't Hasbro focus their attention to the lines they were GOOD at? Stop developing new lines and focus on your core line of 3.75" action figures!!!!!

(edit: pic changed to a link just a bit too big - sorry.  Jeff)
