The Vintage Collection / Re: 2025 TVC Wave 5 (New TVC Wave 44)

I really like this wave.

Glad they are finally filling out the Fallen Order/Jedi Survivor universe beyond just Cal and a bunch of Imperial Trooper variants/kitbashes.... one of which, of course, is also in this wave.  I don't mind though, I'll never turn down a Stormtrooper variant figure.  I'll buy one for the FO/JS shelf and then a couple more to mix into my regular Stormtrooper ranks.

Crosshair is long, long overdue.  2023 for Hunter; 2025 for Crosshair... so 2027 for Tech, 2029 for Echo, 2031 for Wrecker and 2033 for Omega?  That's way earlier than 2045, Matt!

Gideon is also long overdue.  It doesn't look like he shares a lot of parts with the Imp Beskar Commando guy, which kind of surprises me.  Agree with Ryan that not including an unhelmeted head is an odd choice.

Finally, BOBF Cobb.  He'll probably be the dud of this wave since the DLX version was at 50% clearance for so long.  I'll still pick one up to fill out the BOBF shelf, but he's definitely the weak link of the wave.

I don't need another one

I also don't need another one but I'll still be buying one.

I'm planning to move my POTF2 Bantha to the BOBF shelf so those Tuskens have a ride (maybe I'll even put Tusken Boba on there) and then I'll use this new one with my new Tatooine table set-up.

Here are some press pics from Hasbro...

Ever since that final twist in Solo came out, I thought this would be a great side series that they could pull the string on.    Glad they're finally getting to it.

TVC was the main offering back in the day and retail had no other real Star Wars options, with TBS coming in to sort of compete for pegs and dollars at retail.   But I think the big change is the release of the Epic Hero line and how Hasbro / retail treats TVC vs. Epic Hero.  Combine this with Hasbro's weak management of TVC at retail (price too high for kids and soccer moms, no alignment with current media releases, assortments weird with random repacks and not enough hero or core characters) and I think you've essentially got a fan channel only sort of offering now for TVC.

I'd still like to see them change Epic Hero to be fully compatible with TVC and be 5 POA 3.75" scale.  I love the concept of a more value oriented line with lots of main characters at retail and fan oriented more expensive stuff (TVC) being more online / fan channel only.

Now that TVC has become nearly all fan channel, I'd really like to see Hasbro embrace this mentality and forget about brick and mortar retail appeal.  This could include increasing the price, giving us fewer (no) repack/kitbashes that are lazy, and drive all new collector oriented offerings that would probably never work at retail (Andor figures, obscure cantina aliens, etc).

I think that old Bantha is still phenomenal.  I don't need another one, but I'm good with them releasing a refresh for those that still need it or want more to add to their Tusken army.

Agreed.  I didn't bother with variants, but just getting the two of each figure so I could open one was a pain with the prototype figures.

I do like the new ANH wave even though a lot of them have been made in the custom community.  I think they have been smart so far avoiding the sequel movies.  The prequel figures were ok, but I'm more interested in OT.  The Disney+ show figures have been kind of hit and miss in their choices.

More stuff happened after I went to bed last night...

Maul - Shadow Lord, a Star Wars Original series, arrives on Disney+ in 2026.  Sam Witwer to once again provide the voice of Maul.

"In a new series set after the events of the final season of The Clone Wars, Maul rises again to lead the underworld factions."

Solid wave.  Looks like we might have the entire bad batch in TVC squad by 2045.

I know we've all been noticing the decline of TVC (and toys/action figures in general) at brick-and-mortar stores over the last few years, and it has been about a year since the last scare of Target dropping TVC altogether... Tonight, I got curious about the lack of exclusives in general lately, and after a little investigation, I found something pretty telling. Hasbro has likely announced most of their releases for the 1st half of 2025 by now, and we haven't had any retailer exclusive figures. In fact, there has not been a single TVC brick-and-mortar exclusive since 2023...

Between 2018-2023 we had 53 total brick-and-mortar TVC exclusives (~9 per year). Many/Most of those exclusives were just repaints/retools and cheaper for Hasbro to produce. The fact that we haven't had ANY since then feels like a pretty ominous sign for the future of the line at brick-and-mortar. It is really starting to feel like the end of an era, and that this line (if not the entire hobby) has officially moved on to online retailers only. It doesn't seem like the line itself is going away anytime soon, but I do wonder if Hasbro has acknowledged internally that the traditional brick-and-mortar days are done?
