« on: April 5, 2004, 11:34 AM »
Apparently, the first pictures of Christian Bale from the set of Batman have been shown.  You can check out pics of Bale as Bruce Wayne here:

Bale as Bruce Wayne

Here's one example....hope this movie will be as good as it has sounded so far:

Watto's Junk Yard / Super Hero/Comic Book Movies
« on: April 5, 2004, 11:28 AM »
With the big craze of Hollywood creating comics-based movies, it has been a good time for comic fans at the movies over the past few years....with more to come from what I have heard.  What are some of your favorites, what would you like to see done, or what should have been done differently in your eyes?  I can't personally speak for all of them (haven't seen Hulk, Hellboy yet....not sure if I will see the Punisher movie either), but here's some of my favorites:

X2: X-Men United - Probably my favorite comics-based movie, pretty well done I think (as was the first).  I hope this franchise is able to continue, as long as they can keep the same actors and keep the stories good.  Looking forward to X3.

Spider-man - Spidey was my favorite comic (and superhero) growing up, so I was pretty excited to see him come to the big screen finally.  I didn't particularly care for the "costume" of the Green Goblin in the first movie, but otherwise I thought the movie was pretty good.  Looking forward to seeing Spidey 2, with Doc Ock this summer (released on my birthday now :P).  Another franchise I hope can keep going, with the same actors.

X-Men - Good comic movie.  I enjoyed the second a little more, but the first was very good as well.  Set up some characters pretty well.  Like I said earlier, hoping for more of these movies (and hopefully appearances by Beast, Gambit, more Colossus, etc.)

Batman (1989) - I was pretty excited to see this movie when it was released.  Bats was always my favorite non-marvel character, and it was great seeing him on the big screen as well.  I think this was the best of the bunch, and Michael Keaton was surprisingly good as Bruce Wayne/Batman I thought.  Nicholson was a good Joker as well....and the whole movie was nice and dark, like Batman should be in my opinion.  I hope the reboot with Batman Begins returns these movies (and character) to the "coolness" they had before.

Batman Returns - Another good Batman movie.  I know some of my friends didn't care for it though, and some really liked it.  Nice seeing Penguin/Catwoman (pretty well cast I think).  I didn't enjoy it quite as much as the first one, but still very good.

Batman Forever/Batman and Robin - Yikes.  This is where it all started to go wrong :).

Superman - Still an all-time classic I think.  My wife really likes this movie, as she remembers watching it often growing up.  Christopher Reeve did a great job in this role I think too.  First one was my favorite here as well.  I saw all of the movies, but to be honest don't remember the other ones quite as well as the first...so I can't comment on them much.  There are always on again-off again rumors of bringing this movie franchise back, hopefully they do a good job with it.

Daredevil - Eh, so so for me.  Not terrible, but not the greatest either.  When I first saw it, I liked it...but now the luster has worn off a little bit.  I actually picked up the DVD, but don't know if I should have now.  Maybe it was the fact that I wasn't into the character enough growing up either, but overall it wasn't too bad.  From what I have heard, Affleck doesn't want much to do with this franchise anymore, unless Kevin Smith is involved, so this might be the end of that anyways.

I think that is pretty much what I have seen of the super hero movies (or remember much of at least).  The Spidey, X-Men, and Batman franchises are my favorites, and I hope they continue as long as they are well done.  I think many have learned from the mistakes of Batman Forever/Batman and Robin (at least I hope so), and try their best to stay true to the characters.  There have been other comic movies rumored to be coming in the future as well...some off the top of my head include: Fantastic Four, Iron Man, Ghost Rider, Wonder Woman, Elektra, Catwoman, etc.  Any others you would like to see...casting ideas for rumored projects, or anything else comic or superhero film related...I'd be glad to hear it :).

Original Trilogy Collection / Re: Modern Vintage - Waves 4,5,6?
« on: April 5, 2004, 11:13 AM »
I'd definitely like to see more figures done in the style of the upcoming VOTC assortment, however I'd rather see them at the normal pricepoint ;).  If they were released like the announced waves (vintage cardbacks, "based" off of vintage figures, main-ish characters)...these would be my choices (However, I'd like to see Tarking, Snowspeeder Luke, etc. if the cardback didn't matter).

A New Hope
Tusken Raider
Luke Skywalker - X-Wing Pilot
Jawa
Hammerhead

Empire Strikes Back
SA Hoth Snowtrooper
Possible Bespin Luke (non bloodied version)
Zuckuss
SA Hoth Trooper

Return of the Jedi
SA Endor Han Solo w/Trenchcoat (favorite figure as a kid, still waiting for a decent modern version)
Emperor w/cloth robe (articulated knees for sure would be nice)
Endor Luke Skywalker/Endor Leia (either one would be nice, SA w/cloth)
Leia in Boussh Disguise (just like to see this one re-made)

There are others I'd like to see as well, but I guess I'm thinking of "ultimate", super-articulated versions of characters I'd like to see.  I too would like to see many more Ewoks, a new Bib Fortuna, maybe a Royal Guard w/cloth, and possibly a new Hoth Han Solo that isn't so pre-posed or action-featured.  If they were all as well done as the first three waves look to be, there would be a lot of figures I'd like to see.....not at the $10 pricepoint though.  I also left some figures off the list that we already have good versions of, or that are in other "movie" assortments in VOTC already.  For example, upcoming Bespin Leia, recent Hoth Luke, recent Jedi Luke....VOTC already has a version of Chewie, Vader, Stormie, and the droids as well, so I'll leave those as the "definitive" versions....although a removable helmet Vader would be neat too...just change the head on the VOTC version :).

Watto's Junk Yard / Re: Hellboy - Good movie.
« on: April 5, 2004, 10:15 AM »
I've been trying to talk the wife into going to this movie as well.  I have never read any of the comics, and basically know nothing about the character, but just thought the trailers looked cool.  Sounds like everyone is enjoying it so far, so that's good.  #1 at the box office this weekend as well I believe.

Watto's Junk Yard / Re: Freaks and Geeks: Anyone a fan?
« on: April 5, 2004, 10:13 AM »
We used to watch this show, although somewhat sporadically as well.  My wife was actually the one who watched it first, and just when we starting enjoying it, it was gone.  As it was said, it was unappreciated....and probably the product of bad scheduling.  That seems to happen to a lot of good shows anymore.

Thanks for the earlier suggestions on the Spidey figs everyone.  We were out shopping this weekend, and with nothing but Animated Clone Wars figures clogging up the Star Wars pegs, I went ahead and picked up a Parachute Spidey (on sale even!).  This is a great Spidey figure, and its nice to have a "comic" version now to go along with the movie one.  It is so tempting to want to pick up more of Spidey and his villains now though....especially after digging out my old Spidey comics last week :).  Thanks again everyone.

Original Trilogy Collection / Re: Vintage OTC Figures
« on: April 5, 2004, 10:00 AM »
This is disappointing, as far as hearing about the case packing.  I was really hoping that they would just be evenly packed all the way across the line.  The "limited" garbage really annoys me too, all the figure we have seen pics of from this line so far look amazing....and many, many people would want them...why not just slap them on OTC cards at the regular price point?  I think they'd sell like hot cakes.  I can't really think of many pegwarmers in this line, if they were distributed correctly.

Vintage Kenner / Re: FOTW #1 Chewbacca - week of 3/15/04
« on: April 2, 2004, 12:00 PM »
Yeah, I agree with you Thomas, it isn't exactly a spectacular sculpt...but I guess for me it is the nostalgia as well.  It worked for me as a kid, but then again a lot of figures did that have been put to shame by many modern sculpts.  Sorry for the confusion, I didn't mean to imply it stands up among today's standards.

I don't have a lot to add to this either, but I do have two Chewie's.  The first one is from my childhood, and it has held up pretty well (although he lost his bowcaster along the way).  I picked up another loose, complete, C-9 version last year as well (for a vintage loose display...some day).  Always one of my favorite characters and figures, and one of the first ones I owned if I remember right.  Hung out in the Falcon with Trenchcoat Han a lot when I was a kid :).  A pretty nice figure overall I think too, the sculpt has held up reasonably well over the years, all things considered.

Original Trilogy Collection / Re: Original Trilogy Collection
« on: April 2, 2004, 09:57 AM »
Good call Nataku, I wonder how many repack figures we'll end up having in the OTC when all is said and done.  Everything that has been said, printed, etc., has pointed to the Dagobah and Bespin waves being the only new ones in the line.  Maybe there will be a couple of year end surprises yet though.  I sure am glad they came up with the VOTC, because those figures have all looked great so far.  Hopfully they won't be as limited as they think, because they are definitely the highlight of the year....and one of the few "new" things we'll be getting the second part of this year.

I'm still not sure what to think of all the repacks.  I'd rather have new figures, but I will say I like the packaging of the OTC and it might even persuade me to pick up a few figures I already have...and I'm not even a carded collector.  Some of their choices for repacks don't look too bad, but if they are going to do it anyways there are some other ones they could add.  I'd like to see the POTJ Bespin Capture Han get re-released as wel, that was always one of my favorite figures.  Of course, I'm not condoning the re-releases either, I'd rather have new stuff too :).

TV-9D9 / Re: CLONE WARS Cartoon... Reactions
« on: April 2, 2004, 09:25 AM »
I really enjoyed last night's episode as well, the Yoda/Typho part was funny.  It was nice to see more of the droids and Padme too.  I really think that they are doing a great job with this micro series overall.  Sure, things can be a bit over the top sometimes, but I've been able to look past that just because the rest is so well done.  I really hope they release the series on DVD soon.  Hopefully this isn't the last we will see of Star Wars in animated form either.

Feedback / Re: OCB's feedback
« on: April 1, 2004, 04:59 PM »
Just completed another transaction with our boy Scott here.  It couldn't have gone any better.  He was nice enough to hook me up with the lone MOTU figure I wanted to get, Roboto, and was even nice enough to contact me about it in the first place.  Great communication, great packing, fast shipping...and even as a bonus he threw in four X-Men Mighty Beanz.  A heck of a guy, don't hesitate to do business with OCB.  Even if he does start you thinking about a new collection  ::)

Kubricks / Marvel Minimates
« on: April 1, 2004, 04:17 PM »
I think I have gathered from reading everyone's previous posts, but how many waves of Marvel Minimates are out so far?  Is it just the first three waves (with the 4th starting to show up?)  This line has always interested me, and I thought about seeing what (if anything) was available at our closest TRU this weekend.  I was just curious how far behind I was, I don't know a whole lot about the line yet.  From what I gather, these are the releases so far?

Wave 1
Daredevil/Kingpin
Yellow DD/Elektra
Bruce Banner/Hulk
Elektra (Black) - Chase

Wave 2
Spider-man/Carnage
Damaged Spider-man/Venom
Green Goblin/Peter Parker-Spiderman
Spider-man (Black) - Chase
TRU Five Pack w/Rhino

Wave 3
Cyclops/Jean Grey
Wolverine/Sabretooth
Logan/Storm
Cyclops (No Visor) - Chase

Aside from various other store-exclusive chases, is this all that is out (with Wave 4 maybe showing up now?)  Thanks for any advice/info everyone.

I just jumped over to RS boards to check that out......excellent reply Morgbug.  That is my thoughts exactly on this issue.  I know that it won't change his mind, but that isn't the point of it anyways.  Everyone has a right to their opinion, and he shouldn't be so high and mighty because other people still enjoy collecting "toys".  I agree, if there is a kid looking at Playskool (or really other Star Wars toys for that matter), I'm not going to zip in front of him and take it.  These are for kids, and if I want these things bad enough, I'll get them through ebay or some avenue that might not be available to the wee ones.  I do enjoy the Playskool line, and although we don't have any children yet, I have bought the OT sets (for me for now, for kids in the future).  I bought all of them off of ebay I believe, where I doubt kids are shopping....with the exception of the Millennium Falcon set.  There were four of these sitting in a local "farm store" here in town (Bomgaars), and I let them sit for a couple of months before finally breaking down and buying one of them...in a bashed up box.  I just had to give you "props" on your reply, that was very well spoken and illustrated this side of it perfectly.
