Saga '02-'04 / Re: For those considering KEBco Toys:
« on: August 25, 2003, 11:39 AM »
Yeah, I saw those were deleted as well...I was curious, what problems has everyone had?  I currently have some preorders through them (since March), and are their problems serious enough that I should cancel those orders and try to find those figures (and unleashed) elsewhere?  Just curious what everyone's experiences were.  I have had good dealing with them in the past, but that has been almost a year ago now, and nothing dealing with preorders.

Other Collectibles / Unleashed Discussion Thread
« on: August 22, 2003, 03:55 PM »
I have looked around a little bit for an "official" thread on this particular Star Wars line, but with the exception of a thread or two in the Saga section, I didn't really see one.  If I'm wrong, feel free to shut this down or combine this mods ;).  Anyways, who out there is collecting this line...which are your favorites...which are you looking forward to the most...and which characters do you think would translate great into this form?  I personally really like this line, although I only have Jango Fett and Jedi Luke (which is amazing IMO) at this point.  I am hoping to collect all of the Original Trilogy ones, as well as a few PT figures as well.  I'm really looking forward to the next wave with Han, Yoda, and Boba Fett...three of my all-time favorites.  I'd really like to see Chewbacca in this form, and I think it has been somewhat rumored.  I really hope that this line continues for awhile...there are many other figs that would be great, I'd really enjoy to hear your ideas.  Thanks.

Other Toy Lines / Why Do You Collect?
« on: August 22, 2003, 09:31 AM »
Judging by the site we are on, we all know why we collect Star Wars figures, legos, or other memorabilia...be it nostalgia, the love of the movies, etc.  But, I was curious why you might collect other lines.  The other day I was talking with my wife about collecting the MOTU line, needless to say she wasn't overly enthused about the idea of another toyline creeping into our house, and she asked me why I wanted to collect them.  For me, I guess it was kind of hard to explain...I don't "play" with them, I don't "need" them necessarily, I just enjoy it and I suppose a lot of it is nostalgia with that line as well.  I'm still not sure if I'm going to be (or be able to) collect another line like this, and I suppose there is more than enough Star Wars stuff out there for me to collect, and that is my first collecting love and comes before any of the other lines.  I guess my question is, why do you collect the "other" lines?  Am I the only one who looks sometimes at these "toys" (aside from Star Wars) sitting on my desk and wonder, why, really, do I buy these?  Not that I don't think many of the other lines we all collect aren't great, because they are, but I do sometimes wonder why...I guess its hard to explain :).  I was just wondering what some of your explanations are...thanks :).

Saga '02-'04 / Do Any of Your Figures Get "Replaced"?
« on: August 21, 2003, 01:19 PM »
Although much of it is due to my lack of displaying space, over the past couple of years many of my earlier figures (POTF2 mainly) have been replaced as the superior sculpting of POTJ and some of the Saga figures have come along.  I have had to pack away figures such as the original buff Han, Vader, Chewie, Stormtrooper, etc., as they have been replaced by different versions.  Although all of the figures are great, and I am glad that POTF2 started and brought our figures back...but they just don't look quite right in the display next to many of the newer versions.  Have any of you done this...either had to pack away certain figures, or replaced certain versions?  I know I do currently have both the POTF2 and Saga Bespin Lukes on display, because I think both look pretty good.  Anyways, anyone else had to do this?

Saga '02-'04 / Your Best of 2003
« on: August 20, 2003, 01:23 PM »
Although many of us (myself included) haven't found much of the 2003 product, for those of you who have, or by judging from online pictures..which figures are you happy and/or satisified with from this year so far.  I think the 2003 figures have taken quite a beating (much of it justified IMO), and it hasn't seemed like there have been many figures people are happy about.  I also think that this year has seemed to kill the fun for many completists, and even some Star Wars collectors totally.  I know some figures that I was initially excited about (Throne Room Luke primary among them), I have been disappointed in now reading other reviews and seeing more detailed pictures.  I personally am really looking forward to receiving Hoth Han, the Yoda with Younglings, Pit of Carkoon Boba Fett, and the Snowtrooper when my Kebco order ships...but what are your favorites of this year so far?  From what we have seen 2004 could be a banner year for Star Wars collecting, and a return to the type of figures we have been waiting for (classic trilogy, mix of core and background characters, POTJ style sculpting, more articulation).  I guess my question, if you weren't a completist, or weren't starving for new figures due to the drought, which figures from the year 2003 (so far) would you still have bought?

Saga '02-'04 / Re: E-mail from Kebco
« on: August 20, 2003, 08:55 AM »
Yeah, that's pretty much what I figure too, I've never had anything but great business with Kebco, and I know that it isn't their fault.  Plus, I still haven't found any of these in stores, so its not like I'm going to be getting them any sooner :).

Saga '02-'04 / E-mail from Kebco
« on: August 19, 2003, 04:25 PM »
Maybe this is older news to many of you (and I know some of you have found these figures already, but I haven't), but I wrote Kebco to ask about my preorder for Hoth Han, Mynock Chewie, etc., and this is the reply I got:

> The Han Hoth, Chewbacca Mynock, Luke and Vader
> Throne Room, Snowtrooper wave
> (A00B) has also now been cancelled on all remaining
> orders from Hasbro.

> September if you can wait.

I guess September isn't too bad, but I was kind of disappointed, I've really been looking forward to that Hoth Han figure (I've had it preordered since March).  Anyways, I know that many of you are in the same boat, but I wasn't sure if you knew about the cancellation of this wave for now.  If I found them in the stores or online for the same price, I'd cancel my preorder, but they do charge half up front when you preorder so I guess I'll just wait it out.  Just thought I'd let people know :).

The Bullpen / Marvel Legends
« on: August 15, 2003, 10:14 AM »
I just saw that they have a review posted over at Raving Toy Maniac of the X-Men Legends Box Set.  It doesn't look too bad for me.  I'd like to pick it up if I find it, but I'm not sure if I will bring myself to since I have the single releases of Magneto, Wolvie, Beast, and Gambit.  I really want the Beast with labcoat/glasses, and being an X-Men fan I'd like to get that Rogue figure as well.  I guess we'll see when and if I find it on the shelves in a few months.  Anyways...here's the review, with lots of pictures:

Saga '02-'04 / Re: How are you feeling?
« on: August 14, 2003, 04:19 PM »
It seems like a lot of us our feeling the "burnt out" feeling nowadays.  Do you think it is due to the frustrating year (2003) that we have with finding the figures, the glut of Episode II stuff, and the disappointing action features?  That might be part of it for me, although I will say that I don't think I will be getting out of collecting either.  I haven't found any figures from this year yet, but I am still looking forward to my order from Kebco with Hoth Han, Mynock Chewie, Yoda and Younglings, Unleashed, etc.  Also, I am really excited for 2004, it looks like an ideal year for me...I really love the themed waves, one per month, POTJ-style figures, it looks great to me.  But, I also see where many of you are coming from...I do find myself looking at my collection from time to time and thinking "wow, that's a lot of stuff, and a lot of money spent".  I have also run into the problem with displaying space, and have some stuff packed away because of that.  Overall, I can see why many people have become ho-hum about the line, but I hope many of us continue on, it should be a great year next year...but everyone has to make their own decisions on things.  As far as the license going to 2018, I don't know if I could collect that long or not...I think I would always buy some of the figures, although I have become more selective over the past year or so (action features certainly taught me on that one).  Good luck to everyone, whatever they decide to collect or continue collecting :).

Edit:  I was just thinking about this, and also curious...for those of you who collect other lines besides Star Wars (toy lines mainly I guess), have you felt the same feelings across the board...is it that you are burned out on action figures in general, or just in Star Wars?  Maybe this belongs in "Other Toy Lines", but I just thought I'd post it here.

I agree, my wife and I just got a chance to go see this last weekend, and it is a great movie.  Very entertaining, and one we will definitely pick up on DVD.  If you haven't seen it yet, I highly recommend it as well.  However, we didn't stay until the end of the credits, so I'm kind of upset that we missed something...oh well, guess we'll catch it on the DVD maybe :).

Watto's Junk Yard / Re: The Packaging Issue...
« on: August 13, 2003, 09:05 AM »
Thanks for the comments so far everyone, glad to hear I'm not the only one who keeps this stuff.  That's the main reason I keep it as well, just to look through them from time to time...from the Saga line I've always kept those bubble inserts as well, just thinking they could be used for a display or something too.  I don't know, we've got the room now, so I guess I'll keep everything until we don't :).

Watto's Junk Yard / The Packaging Issue...
« on: August 12, 2003, 03:34 PM »
I wasn't sure if this belonged here or in the Other Toy section, or even in the Saga section....but it kind of covers a number of lines.  My question deals with the packaging...boxes, cards, etc.  Do you keep it?  If so, do you keep it all, some of it, only certain lines...or why do you (or do you not) keep it?  Personally, I have kept the majority of my packaging....card backs (only ones that have different backs), no bubbles, ship and beast boxes (but flattened)...but, I'm not exactly sure why I keep them.  Until we are able to move to a different house, my wife and I are kind of running out of space to even display my collection, let alone keep the packages.  I suppose I should just throw them all away, not much reason to keep them, but for some reason I just don't.  What do you do with your packaging?  Just curious to see some thoughts and opinions.  Thanks :).

Saga '02-'04 / Re: Check Hasbro NOW
« on: August 8, 2003, 12:08 PM »
Nice to see some higher quality pics of these figures.  I can't wait to (hopefully) find these.  These are the types of figures that really keep me excited about the line, nice mix of OT, primary/secondary characters, great sculpts, and main characters with good articulation from the looks of it!  Late this year and 2004 could be great time for us collectors :).

Other Toy Lines / Re: Modern Masters of the Universe
« on: August 6, 2003, 12:00 PM »
I really like the looks of the figures from this line (although I only have He-Man thus far).  I've been wanting to collect it, without variants, and just a little bit at a time.  Although I'm not a member at he-man.org, I do look through their forums quite a bit, and it seems like there is a lot of fear that the line is coming to an end (possibly soon)?  I don't know if that is true or not, and within another year or so they would probably have made most of the figures that I want, but I was curious if any of you knew if the line was in big trouble or not.  I'd like to collect some, but if some stores are going to stop carrying them, or figures aren't going to be shipped very often, it might make it more difficult.  I do understand that getting into the game later like this will make it difficult anyways for me, but I don't really want to be looking all over, shopping online, paying exorbant prices, etc. for this line (I already do enough of that with Star Wars right now, and SW figures are my first priority).  Anyways, do you think the line is in trouble...is it a bad time to start collecting these?  Thanks again for any advice, and sorry for all of the questions.  I know I have been back and forth on this a lot, but I'm not sure how much income I have to dedicate to this line and my wife's not too crazy about me collecting another line :)

Saga '02-'04 / Re: Bounty Hunter Pack: Have You Found It?
« on: August 5, 2003, 01:23 PM »
Haven't seen it around here yet either...but the first set hasn't shown up yet either.  Not sure if I will pick it up or not, I don't have a Bossk in my collection, and wouldn't mind an extra 300th Fett, but I could probably pick up the Bossk cheaper individually.
