The Legacy Collection / Re: Five Movie Waves This Year
« on: February 20, 2008, 06:24 PM »
I tend to agree that its time to update the episode 1 figures with more of todays standards. I think we need a new Padme, Anakin, Obi-Wan, Palpatine, and Jar Jar

I for one would love that. I am one of those few Star Wars fans that actually likes TPM and I do not mind 10 year old Anakin OR Jar Jar Binks at all.

I think an entire wave of updated TPM Collection 1, Wave 1 figures would be great:
Anakin Skywalker
Jar Jar Binks
Obi-Wan Kenobi
Qui-Gon Jinn (just re-release the new Evo figure w/a new lightsaber)
Queen Amidala (Padme in her outfit from the assault on Theed)
Battle Droid 2-pack
Darth Maul (re-release the first Evo version w/a Cloth Cloak and half lit lightsaber)
Padme (disguise while she was on Tatooine)

And then a second wave dedicated to re-doing selected TPM Collections 2 & 3 Wave 1 figures:
Senator Palpatine
Nute Gunray
Watto
C-3PO
Chancellor Valorum
Captain Tarpals
Oom-9
Naboo Pilot (first version could have a Ric Olie head and then after that, it could be used in Battle Packs and other sets to give us additional Naboo Pilots)

I also think next year is the time when we should finally get a re-release of the N-1 starfighter.

The Legacy Collection / Re: 2008 UGH "1st Day of Issue" Promotion
« on: February 20, 2008, 03:30 PM »
If this is going to be on ALL of the stuff shipping to the stores for the 7/26 merchandise push then, ok, whatever.

This concept is rather silly IMHO. Stores like TRU are going to over-order the heck out of these two Wave 1 assortments so they'll have the "1st Day Issue" packaging versions for quite some time.

I'm not going to go crazy and collect both packaging versions. I'll get whatever I can on the 26th and if I miss a figure, then "oh well" - I'm not going to go crazy for a foil logo and a sticker.

I'm pretty sure that 7/26 is the release date...

Hey Chewie - where did you hear that? A couple of other sites are indicating that Hasbro said the AT-TE was coming out more towards the holiday shopping season, so I wouldn't expect it until September/October.

1st day issue? Huh? Is that only going to be on the figures that come off the assembly line on the first day of the production run for that figure?

I don't understand this at all. The figures aren't like books - so unless they are drawing a line in the sand and saying "the 26th of July will be THE day for Wave 1 Clone Wars and Wave 1 Legacy Collection" - I can't really see this as meaning a whole heck of a lot to ANYONE.

30th Anniversary Collection / Re: Recent 30AC Purchases

When it rains, it pours...

This morning I was able to score: 2x Clone Commando/SBD Comic 2-packs and 1 each of the four new Evolutions sets. Yeah!

Now if I could just find Wave 1, I'd be in good shape!

Finally picked up an opener AT-AP this evening.

I am quite pleased with how this vehicle turned out. It is a tad small, but I am quite happy to now have both this vehicle and the General Grievous Starfighter vehicles in my collection (I think the Grevious starfighter turned out great too)

Just got back from a close to closing run to WalMart.

Scored the following vehicles:

2x AT-AP
1x General Grievous' Starfighter
1x Blue Obi-Wan JSF

I am now done with this vehicle wave.

Picked up the following today:
2x Mouse / Basso Comic 2-pack
2x Lt Jundland / Lt Shan Comic 2-pack
1x Clone Commando / Super Battle Droid Comic 2-pack

My friend also scored for me 2x red sitting Pit Droids, 2x orange sitting Pit Droids and 1x white sitting pit droids. So I'm good with the Saga Legends Pit Droids now.

The Legacy Collection / Re: Will Droids become the new Clones?

I would LOVE an entire wave dedicated to KOTOR. However, I agree that it wouldn't do so well on the pegs.

Kids and collectors love Sith Lords, that's why the Wave 5 figures and the Evo sets can get away with featuring some of the Sith Lords from the games. I would love it if they figured out a way to bring Darth Sion and Darth Bandon to plastic form.

You know T3-M4 and HK-47 are both viable options for this concept. Using the pics from Wikipedia:

T3-M4:

Four parts: Head, Left Front Leg, Right Front Leg, Torso w/Rear Wheel legs

HK-47:

Six Parts: Head, Torso, Left Leg, Right Leg, Left Arm, Right Arm

I think the Droid Factory concept would be a great way to get us these two KOTOR/KOTOR II droids that we wouldn't get otherwise.

Yeah - I think that ROTS is represented by the 2008 TAC Wave 1.

There are only four Legacy Collection waves coming in 2008, so my guess is:

Wave 1 - ROTJ - 8 figures
Wave 2 - Clone Wars - 8 figures
Wave 3 - ESB - 6 figures
Wave 4 - ANH - 8 figures

I am also not surprised that any possible TPM wave was pushed back to 2009 - it's the 10th anniversary of Episode 1 next year, so I wouldn't be surprised to see quite a few things centered around EP1, perhaps even a vintage style line with EP1 characters. It's been too long since 10 year old Anakin was available as part of the toy line.

You know what's odd, if the CW3D wave 1 hits right before the Legacy wave 2 we'll have two Clone Wars Obi-Wans in armour on the pegs at one time.

I'm thinking the same thing and this is a great example of WHY I think the animated style figures are so ridiculous.

Ok - so we're getting an Obi-Wan in Clone Armor where the armor and look matches the first Clone Wars cartoon.

But first we're going to get one that matches how he looks in the 3D Clone Wars cartoon.

Let's put them side-by-side:

Why is Lucasfilm being so cavalier with the new 3D cartoon changing the looks of the characters? I know people have made this complaint before, but now more than ever, I feel that these new looks for the major characters have been created primarily for the purposes of selling more toys. There is really no justification for Obi-Wan donning clone armor with his Jedi robes should be given a completely new look. For crying out loud, the first Clone Wars cartoon was anything but realistic, but that first design for Obi-Wan in Clone Armor has widely accepted by the fans, converted over to the realistic style and has (or soon will be) immortalized in the form of a statue, 12" doll and 3.75" figure. Why then was that same design not translated to the look of the new Clone Wars 3D cartoon? Why did they come up with a completely new look?!?!

I know it may seem like I'm harping on this issue, but let's say that the cartoon is a hit and GL decides that he wants to tell the tale of the Rebels between ANH and ESB. We know how Darth Vader looked in ANH, we know how Vader looked in ESB. But for this new cartoon, we're going to put Vader in gray armor with a red cape and a white helmet. Why? Well why not of course! Han Solo won't be wearing his trademark white shirt and black vest, heck no! We'll put him in a blue jumpsuit with a black sash instead of a belt - that will make him look extra dashing! Get these designs to Hasbro so they can make figures of them right away! - now if that happened, everyone would be up in arms about how the designs are so radically different from what we've seen before. So why doesn't anyone care that they are basically throwing out everything that was established in the previous cartoon series?

I just don't get it.
