Revealed on today's Hasbro Star Wars Imperial March Fanstream (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iIWv7tp9UGE):
The next Star Wars HasLab project will be revealed the week of May 4th... and it's from The Vintage Collection!
Let the speculation begin...
(Patience, Black Series 6" fans - maybe you'll get another turn someday :-\)
-
Nicklab and Jayson have been playing a game of cat-and-mouse about what it will be somewhere else. Not a lot of compelling options on the list to my eye ( as a mostly OT fan)
-
I highly doubt you'll see a Black Series Haslab ever again. They're 0 for 2 and TVC is 3 for 3.
-
Hoping for a proper Cantina that includes a few new aliens… I’m just about tapped out when it comes to space for enormous vehicles and the Ghost hasn’t even shipped yet.
-
The Cantina is about the last big thing I’ll buy…except maybe the Yavin tactical display table or the once planned Echo Base playset

I'd have to throw it in the garage and start parking my car on the street.

Here’s the list in question. Jayson has not given me any indication which of these choices might be the next TVC Haslab.
EPISODE I - BMF Naboo Royal Starship
EPISODE II - LAAT/C Republic Gunship Carrier
CLONE WARS - The Twilight
EPISODE III - BMF Turbo Tank
THE BAD BATCH - The Havoc Marauder
SOLO - Lando's Millennium Falcon
OBI-WAN KENOBI - Inquisitor Shuttle
ANDOR - Luthen Rael's Fondor Haulcraft
ROGUE ONE - BMF U-Wing
EPISODE IV - Mos Eisley Cantina
EPISODE V - Rebel GR-75 Medium Transport
EPISODE VI - Imperial Lambda Class Shuttle
THE MANDALORIAN - Mandalorian Gauntlet Assault Craft or the Imperial Landing Craft
THE BOOK OF BOBA FETT - Boba Fett's Rancor
AHSOKA - Ahsoka's T-6 Jedi Shuttle.
EPISODE VII - First Order Troop Carrier
-
My favorite in the list is:
EPISODE V - Rebel GR-75 Medium Transport
-
Yeah the GR-75 or Cantina are probably the only two in that list I’d be terribly interested in. Ther are a few other okay ones I guess, but nothing else too exciting to me.
-
To be honest there is a bunch of stuff I'd like them to make, including the rebel transport, but I don't want it to be a $450 version. A $150-$200 version would be just fine for the rebel transport, a Ahsoka's T-6, First Order troop carrier, Fondor Haulcraft, etc.
I thought the Mandalorian N-1 was perfect. Something mid-sized where reasonable compromises are made to keep it affordable.
In fact I'm not sure there is anything on this list that feels like I would want to spend $450 for and have it take up a giant shelf. Even if they did the cantina I would hope they could find a way to create value without making it too expensive and elaborate (e.g. I don't need piles of Instagram worthy pillows, etc.).
-
I have seen that elsewhere Jayson confirmed it is NOT the Havoc Marauder, and also said that whatever it is, it is not "a representation" of the vehicle/location like the playsets have been, which would seemingly nix the Cantina unless they are doing a full interior/exterior for it.
-
I saw the "not a representation" remarks, too. And for me? That seemed to rule out a Death Star playset. I think it might also rule out the GR-75 Rebel Transport, too.
I'm glad to see that Hasbro seems to want to build on the success of previous Haslab campaigns. I think the big dividing line might be between old media and new media. Is there anything in the legacy media (pre-sale to Disney) that might be a home run idea?
GEORGE LUCAS ERA
EPISODE I - BMF Naboo Royal Starship - Previously made in 1999
EPISODE II - LAAT/C Republic Gunship Carrier - Never made before - would need an accompanying AT-TE to be a home run
CLONE WARS - The Twilight - Never made before. Appears in 10* episodes of The Clone Wars
EPISODE III - BMF Turbo Tank - Previously made in 2009
EPISODE IV - Mos Eisley Cantina - A representation - not likely at this time
EPISODE V - Rebel GR-75 Medium Transport - Made in the Kenner era, 1980
EPISODE VI - Imperial Lambda Class Shuttle - Originally made in 1983/84; Reissued in the modern era in 2002/03 and 2006 based on the Kenner tooling
DISNEY ERA
THE BAD BATCH - The Havoc Marauder - Never made before - Eliminated from contention per J
SOLO - Lando's Millennium Falcon - Made in the SOLO line in 2019 in a simplified form
OBI-WAN KENOBI - Inquisitor Shuttle - Never made before
ANDOR - Luthen Rael's Fondor Haulcraft - Never made before
ROGUE ONE - BMF U-Wing - Made as a one man fighter in 2016's Rogue One line
THE MANDALORIAN - Mandalorian Gauntlet Assault Craft - Never made before / Imperial Landing Craft - Never made before
THE BOOK OF BOBA FETT - Boba Fett's Rancor - Previous Rancors have been made before, not this specific one. Would Hasbro attempt another Rancor Haslab after the failure of the Black Series Rancor Haslab campaign?
AHSOKA - Ahsoka's T-6 Jedi Shuttle - Never made before in 1:18 scale. Seen in Tales of the Jedi, Clone Wars and Ahsoka. Could it also be seen in The Acolyte?
EPISODE VII - First Order Troop Carrier - Never made before
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I don't know what to make of it all. And there are a lot of factors that work for and against a number of these.
-

Same. I don't need everything to be enormous. I wish they'd use Haslab for more esoteric or risky items even if they're regular sized things.

Hasbro has tossed around the term "Dream Item" regarding Haslab. And one concept people have been discussing are figure dream packs. I don't think it's a far-fetched idea given the limited scope of the figure line these days.
A Haslab figure dream pack of 10 Cantina aliens for $200 - $250 might be an idea worth pursuing. Especially if Hasbro were to make a not-quite-a-Haslab Cantina playset. The only complicating factor that I could see would be the incentives. I think an Early Bird backer offering might be a better way to sweeten the deal. I know that Hasbro did that with the GI Joe Classified HISS Tank.
-
Yep. They've worn me down.
I'm at the point where I'd rather pay more for NEW characters instead of $16.99 for repacks and repaints and photo-real deco re-releases. Dream Item doesn't have to mean enormous. Make a Vader funeral pyre. A ROTS Sith Throne... a ten pack of cantina aliens or Jabba's palace goons. A Home Won command center... anything that's not the same stuff over and over again.
-
Have we heard any commentary on how the Mandalorian N1 fighter did in Hasbro’s view? I know it wasn’t a Haslab item, but there was a strong element of preorder for this. Did it even get “stocked” at EE or any other place?
As mentioned before, I’d love to see Hasbro do more stuff like this. Reasonable price range, pre-order, awesome execution.
I would be up for a significant figure component to a HasLab item if the ship/playset was more mid-size. For example, I’m not super interested in a First Order Troop carrier, but I would be if it included all the Knights of Ren.
-
Last summer during interviews, the Hasbro team was very happy with how the N-1 had sold, and said it was going to have the effect of more fighter-sized vehicles being offered. I think the E-Wing was an obvious result.
I saw the N-1 on shelf at Target, Go! Calendars and Toys, and a local toy store called Sir Troy's Toy Kingdom ( that is an all-out toy store my boys and I absolutely love that is trying and mostly succeeding at filling the hole TRU left.)
The N-1 is still available on Amazon as well, and hovers around regular price. If it dips far enough it might finally push me over the edge to actually buying it, but I am not much of a vehicle collector ( no Haslab purchases yet, the BMF is enough of a space hog for me.)
-
Dang I would have like the Marauder but I guess that was a long shot seeing as how they’ve only got Hunter to go with it so far.
The Twilight was #1 on my most wanted list of ships for a long time before the Ghost took over that spot, so I’d be super happy to see this one, although it feels like there is almost no fan push for it.
I’d also love the Jedi T-6 Shuttle. I was checking out the Lego one the other day and it’s a pretty neat design.
-
Jayson's comment on IG was "Cheers" as a hint, so the money seems to be on the Cantina. I'm super happy with my cantina diorama, but if this has a few figures that won't be available anywhere else (two in particular), I'll still back this and use it as a playset for my son and I to pose figures in. I really hope the Hasbro team is looking at all the negativity between old and new collectors and plays up the cross-media potential for this set. Tonnika sisters and Hammerhead would be awesome for us OT collectors, but Pelli Motto and EV-9D9 could appeal to new media fans (though EV has cross potential for sure). A new Wuher? **** yeah I'd want that. At the least they should be pulling together some glamour shots showing Mando in the thing to reduce the agita from the new media crowd.
-
I didn't watch the WonderCon replay - were there any hints or discussion on the supposed upcoming HasLab offering?

No, Hasbro only had an hour for all the lines combined. It was pretty much just 10 minutes for Priya to go through the 4 items shown.

The twilight has always been high on my list. I'm not saying it's a great choice for everyone though.
The dream figure pack is top on my list though if it is cantina patrons I will need a cantina to go with them. If they do a cantina, I'm still on board with my vote to keep it modular. The bar section could likely fit in a 12-14 inch deep shelf, as could either side wall of the building. This would keep it flexible for people who definitely don't have the space for a full table display. You could display the whole thing separately on three shelves if need be.
-

Well, the Marauder has suffered the same fate as some previous Haslab vehicles... it's a possibility.
-
When they made The Razor Crest they stated that they'd make every character that ever interacted with it. By my count they've made a little over half of the characters.
So I guess if they wanted to make The Marauder and there weren't more than a couple other figures not bundled with it available, that shouldn't stop them.
-
Do we know when The Ghost will ship? It's a little odd if they are going to ask us to back this upcoming Haslab before we even have the last one in hand.
-
The website just says estimated ship is Fall 2024.
-
It's a little odd if they are going to ask us to back this upcoming Haslab before we even have the last one in hand.
They've been doing that quite a bit with recent projects - examples:
- GI Joe Classified 6" HISS Tank (Aug 2022) ran before the GI Joe 3.75" Skystriker shipped (Jan 2023)
- GI Joe Classified 6" Dragonfly (Jul 2023) ran before the HISS Tank shipped (Dec 2023)
- Galactus (Aug 2021) ran just about when the Sentinel was being shipped (Sep 2021)
- TFers Deathsaurus (Nov 2022) ran just before the TFers Victory Saber shipped (Dec 2022)
I guess they figure with each of the major brands having 2-3 HasLabs under the belt, folks will be more trusting that things will get delivered.
-
Ah, interesting. I don't really follow any of their non-SW stuff so I hadn't noticed that.
-
Looks like we're going to have a little more time to speculate. Hasbro has just delayed the Haslab reveal.
-
Per Hasbro Pulse’s post on Instagram, the launch of the new Haslab campaign has been delayed.
I have to think there are too many high profile things on the promotional calendar for the franchise. I’m thinking this could get launched at SDCC.
-
This was just going to be the reveal, correct? Or were they going to start taking orders right away? Seems odd to delay it if they were just planning a reveal.
-
Generally, the Haslab campaigns have started within 24 hours of the announcement.
SDCC is really the ideal place to launch a campaign. There’s less on the promotional calendar for the franchise. And Hasbro gets loads of free promotion because of all of the collector media that’s on hand to cover the announcement and take countless photos.
-
Excellent execution, Hasbro! "Hey collectors, get excited for the next TVC Haslab reveal... uh, actually, nevermind - we'll tell you later." ::)
I'm guessing Nick is probably right that they changed their mind and wanted some kind of reveal in-person to fans at something like SDCC. That makes me think that whatever they picked, it is more impressive to see it in person and get a true sense of scope as opposed to just being able to rely on pics/fanstreams. (Mos Eisley Cantina playset?)
Or I guess it could be as simple as someone dropped the fragile 3D model and they need to print a new one. :P
-
Maybe Steve came back into the fold and didn’t think it was up to snuff.
-
Everyone seems convinced now it’s the Death Star. :P
-
All because Steve Evans posted “Almost there”?
-
Everyone seems convinced now it’s the Death Star. :P
A modular Death Star would be sweet. I would be interested in both a cantina and Death Star, assuming its done well and not just bottles, pillows, etc. for $450.
-
That would make sense but also when had Jayson ever been wrong about this stuff. Maybe it’ll be like last year where there’s the Ghost but there’s also Jabba’s Palace as a regular, expensive release.
-

That'd be cool. $450 HasLab Death Star and $255 pre-order cantina.
-
Based on all the comments I've seen and read over the last few years, the Death Star and/or the ME Cantina are going to be really interesting choices for potential HasLabs. Probably way more controversial than anyone is expecting for two OT popular locations.
There are so many personal visions of what a Death Star playset should look like (a giant ball, a throw-back to the Kenner set, a throw-back to the palitoy set, something customizable/stackable) and then the cost expectations that go with it. A lot of people say "$450-500 max", but the renders and info Jayson had seen for the mega-ball render he had seen and sketched (https://forum.rebelscum.com/threads/the-ghost-21-768-backers.1151891/page-9#post-20630923) would cost in the $800-1000 range. That's going to be a LOT for some folks. How much detail does it need to be a HasLab "dream" project? How far can Hasbro push that "dream project" angle before they price themselves out? If it costs more than most can handle, that will cause a lot of anger and jealousy from the segment that can't afford it.
And the Cantina. The cost would probably depend greatly on what it looks like. Is it the whole thing, like the LEGO version? Should it just be the main bar section with chairs/stools and bottles and bits that the Instagram collectors would LOVE posing figures in for photos but make the old timers complain "who needs all these bottles and pillows"? (Hi, Dave! :P) And what about pack-ins? Again, going back to the JD Twitter polls - you'd get some kind of "no oola, no moolah" type reaction to the Cantina if they finally make it and there are no Tonnika Sisters in the tiers ("No Tonnika, No Thanks"? "No Sisters, No Sale"?). What about a new Wuher or Chalmun the Wookiee Cantina owner? Are they "must haves"? Are you willing to pay extra if Hasbro goes all out on lights/sounds/electronics?
I feel like you could do a crazy "dream level" Cantina for $500 with electronics (the droid scanner at the door, the cantina band soundtrack) and go crazy with the pack-ins - 6-8 figures instead of 3-4. Do the alien weirdos that have ZERO chance at getting into the main retail line these days - Tzizvvt, new Wuher, Chalmun, Baniss Keeg, new Lak Sivrak, etc. Support it with a new Greedo, Hammerhead, Ponda, Snaggle carded 4-pack at Hasbro Pulse.
OR, maybe the Cantina doesn't need to be a HasLab? Maybe Hasbro could go the Hasbro Pulse way with the Cantina like the Jabba's palace set - you'd have to sacrifice the pack-ins down to one (likely Wuher) and then sacrifice all the electronics and sounds to get it down to that $250 range. Tricky decisions to get right and get the biggest bang for all involved.
(after all this fun speculation and talk, watch it turn out to be a HasLab Bad Batch Shuttle, launched months after the hype of the Series finale when they could have capitalized on that hype if they stuck to the original reveal this week... :P).
-
That sketch is insane. I wouldn’t even know what to do with a death star like that and I have an entire basement’s worth of space. It’s filling up though.
As for the Cantina, I wouldn’t want it to work like the Lego one which displays terribly. It might work well as a playset but it wouldn’t for me. The genius about the Jabba’s Palace is that it was designed to fit on a shelf. I hope they’re smart enough to let that be the max size for playsets.
-
All because Steve Evans posted “Almost there”?
That and the thing about keeping your comlinks open, which people apparently think is a callback to the trash compactor scene?
-
Maybe the "Cheers" comment still means something and we are still getting a bar...
Just not the bar anyone expects (or would really want in this format). The Haslab will actually be the New Republic pilot bar on Adelphi from The Mandalorian Season 3. It will pair with the upcoming X-Wing Pilot Troop builder pack. Unlocks will be Carson Teva & Trapper Wolffe w/ their jackets and hat, the Snivvian bartender, & Zeb in pilot gear (reusing some of the new Zeb toolings). The "Comlink" comment was supposed to be a reference to Carson Teva talking to Din.
(I say this mostly jokingly.)
-
I still favor the interpretation that Cheers was a reference to John Ratzenberger, so it is obviously an Echo Base playset. (Also ties in to the pucture they used for the X-Wing Troop Builder pipeline.)
(And yes this is not serious either.)
-
Any chance it could be a new Big Naboo Royal Starship for TPM 25th anniversary? Podracer set?
20th anniversary of ROTS is next year too...
-
I doubt it. :)
-
Leak or hoax?
https://yakfaceforums.com/main/2024/05/09/haslab-tvc-mos-eisley-cantina-leaked/
-
Hasbro has goofed before. Witness Patrick spilling the beans about the TBS Rancor Haslab during a fan site Q&A session.
-
Also, yesterday the Pulse site was displaying a test HasLab (https://twitter.com/preterniadotcom/status/1788432994677805076) that leaked through to the public so this Pulse oopsie link could have been tied to that.
-
What do you guys think of the Cantina? Looks like a giant dust trap that would be hard to display and really needs LED lighting in the individual booths.
Tonnika Tier will guarantee success though :D
-
It looks a whole heck of a lot like what I envisioned as the ideal set-up I wanted. Maybe not so much of the business with the front door exterior, but it all looks very modular so I expect I could leave that out in my display.
This may very well be my first HasLab...I can't wait to see the true reveal. The picture shown has so much ceiling and backsides of walls showing, there is no way this is the "main picture" of the campaign. A beauty shot, it ain't.
-
If it fits on my shelf, I’m in. Looks like the bar could swing around to make it thinner in that part, but as a display piece that section looks awkward in Jayson’s image. Looking forward to seeing real details…
-
I’m all in! Looks like everything I wanted and more especially if there are LED lights
-
Whether it’s real or not, this can’t be a final image. It seems to be severely lacking in detail and the entire left side of it looks weird and haphazardly constructed… the curved tops of the alcoves are weird… it looks like an early work in progress.

I wonder if that has anything do with the Deluxe vs Standard version... maybe the "Deluxe" has some sort of a top that covers all the innards?

If there are figures in it, we all know you are going to get one. ;)
-
Ha, likely. But if I really couldn’t fit it in my shelves I’d consider just buying one and selling the playset or buying just the figures aftermarket.
-
I’m all in! Looks like everything I wanted and more especially if there are LED lights
Ditto. If it has lights/sounds that would be awesome. And such a great opportunity to get those last few alien weirdos as tiers.
There is so much they could do to world-build around it as well. Re-issue the Landspeeder (or do a new one). New Ben, new Farmboy Luke, new C-3PO, new Sandtrooper(s). New Pulse exclusive carded 4-pack of Greedo, Ponda, Hammerhead, Snaggletooth. TVC re-issues of some of the existing Cantina dudes whose sculpts still hold up.
I'm already in for the $500 deluxe version and I don't even know what it includes. #sucker
-
If this is real I'm not sure how exactly I feel about it. I'm sure I'll back it, but the preliminary shots have me unsure what to make of it.
It seems fairly substantial, which is good, but it also seems both big (difficult to fit on a shelf) and "dense" where it might be hard to see what is going on. I also wonder about the lack of a stage for the band. I'm not sure what the exterior elements include, but they seem a bit unnecessary.
Although if the set includes Tonnika sisters, and other unmade figures I'd be totally in for it. I don't really need redone figures that are already good enough - farmboy Luke, etc.
Either way this doesn't seem like the presentation quality we would expect from a HasLab campaign. All the previews we've seen prior have included painted samples and renderings that show really well. This seems like a really nice unpainted 3D printed custom.
-
That sums up my thoughts too. I'm not 100% convinced this is an actual image of an actual leak, but what do I know.
-
Man, Hasbro's marketing department is an absolute clown show! Patrick probably had a good laugh about this one at least.
As far as the set. I do like it, looks fairly modular and should be able to fit on a shelf easy enough. Wonder what the offerings will be with this one and a $100 difference between basic and deluxe? What's going on there???
While I doubt they'll ever get made, if they were going to make the Tonnika Sisters, it would come in this set.
-
The pricing is certainly a new way to approach a Haslab between the base offering and the deluxe offering. I imagine we'll know in time what that's going to entail.
Part of me thinks the leak was an exercise in ineptitude - either by the marketing team or by the Hasbro Pulse online store team. And another part thinks that it might have been a trial balloon. Gauging the sentiment of the community on a set like this isn't exactly uncharted waters for the brand. They periodically hold focus groups in order to get feedback that's more in depth and focused than what they see on social media. And if they planned this in order to get a sense of what the response would be? I wouldn't be completely shocked, because the fandom is more segmented now. There's a generation of Star Wars fans who might not hold the Cantina scene in such high regard as those of us who saw it on screen when the OT was the totality of Star Wars.
The size of it all does concern me. My first instinct would be to get the Deluxe version, because FOMO, of course. But how much real estate will it require to display it all? I think we're looking at something that would need to be placed on a table top. As for what's shown in the image? Maybe that could be displayed on a shelf that's 11" deep.
As for figures? Count me in with Jeff in wanting the original Kenner Cantina aliens in something like the Amazon 4 - packs. Those shouldn't get locked behind a Haslab pay wall.
Regarding the rumor of 8 figures? Part of me wants 3 of them to be Wuher, Ackmena and Chalmun. A Cantina has to have a staff, right? Beyond that? I think some of the most visible Cantina patrons are called for, and I tend to favor those that have not been made.
-Baniss Keeg
-Arleil Schous
-Danz Borin
-Yerka Mig
-Atheloe
-Saitorr Kal Fas
-Reegesk
-Tonnika Sister (from what I understand Hasbro might be able to make one of them)
Beyond that? There are some that deserve to be revisited. My short list there?
-Muftak
-Bo Shek
-Takeel
-Labria
-Dannik Jerriko (because of the stupid holes in his face and those never seen on screen tentacles)
-
I feel like this is the only chance we get the Tonnikas. If it doesn't happen with the Haslab (or a coinciding figure-pack announcement), then they're never going to happen.
I also hope that we get a Kenner retro paint scheme of the 4 cantina denizens like Jeff suggested... maybe even a blue Snaggletooth version.
As for Nick's list, I don't think you can go wrong with any of those suggestions.
-
I almost never complain about what Hasbro does. If they lock the Tonnikas behind this pay wall I will be outraged. Do a multi pack figure set shortly after, but do not make them a part of this.
-
Something is going to get locked behind a pay wall. I think that's a certainty. But it just comes down to WHAT is that? And is it niche enough to belong there and only there?
-

I struggle to determine how I feel on this issue, too. In general for me, it comes down to what kind of a set the item is packed in. If the main item (Vehicle, Playset, Haslab, etc) is itself all-new, then I am generally ok with all-new pack-ins (Like the Ghost). If the main item is a rerelease of a large item that I wouldn't normally buy a double of (like Boba Fett's Starship), then I'd prefer the pack-in is also a rerelease.
I've mostly been back on the "1 Carded & 1+ Loose Completionist" train for the past few years. It can definitely get pricy when I "need" to pick up an extra item for a loose & carded version.
In the case of a Cantina Haslab - I really don't want to feel compelled to buy two sets. I'd much rather they include figures that are already in the mainline on alternate cardbacks w/ an extra accessory or two (like the Razor Crest & Barge pack-ins). I can happily live without an extra bar glass, a cracked egg, or a different color Pram. I'd be much more annoyed to either miss out on something like a Tonnika loose/carded or have to shell out an extra couple hundred bucks and deal with storing/selling of the extra Cantina.
-
The Tonnika Sisters thing is such a Star Wars collecting legend at this point that I don’t care how they get made if they actually get made.
The whole Haslab could be $399 for just them and I’d back it.
-
From your keyboard to Hasbro's ears...
-
I'm still a little surprised that Hasbro would put the Cantina behind a Haslab pay wall. And I'm seriously wondering if this situation might evolve into something like the Jabba's Palace sales model. Could that be the reason behind the delay?
-

I was thinking something similar. It was rumored that they were going to offer the Jabba set as a Haslab, but then went the preorder route. Possibly something similar could be going on here.
-
I keep wondering if Steve Evans came back and wasn’t thrilled with the design (and maybe the parallel tie-in offerings) in some way or other and is just overhauling the project more than switching it from Haslab to preorder.
-
I don't see how Haslab is a "paywall". This isn't a phone game that is gating progress based on paying for the exclusive new item. Anyone is able to purchase a Haslab item and they make as many as are sold if they hit the funding goal. Yes, you are paying for a large item to get a pack-in figure, but I seriously doubt a "casual" collector on an extreme budget is clamoring for the Tonnika sisters.
-
Yes but I'm not a casual collector. I am clamoring for the Tonnika sisters. I don't want a playset for $400. It would be a dick move to then stick them in a set that costs $400 when they (not that they are gonna make them) finally do make them. All they are doing is annoying one of the people that still buys most of their product. One of the few people that doesn't think everything they do is already a dick move. I don't have to be on an extreme budget to not want the cantina.
-
That’s fair, but also tons of people just buy sets like that then re-sell the bits they don’t need and recoup a bunch of the costs. The difference obviously is the price / value of the figures.
Which also means you can usually just buy the figures for whatever that inflated number is.
-
The "paywall", in this context, refers to a specific figure being exclusively available to one Haslab release. At $400 or $500, that's a potential obstacle that might prevent people from getting a figure that they want. I don't think it's out of line to call it that among the collecting community.
-
Whether you call it a "dick move" or a "paywall", the exclusive pack-in figure tactic has been part of the game for a long time.
I have empathy for collectors who end up in the spot of wanting the tier/pack-in figures but not wanting the Cantina. Trying to decide whether to invest $500 to get the figures hoping to recoup some of that cost two years later by selling the playset parts is definitely not ideal.
Lucky for me, I'm not in that spot. I'm fortunate enough to be standing here with $596.05 in hand, ready to buy ($50 Pulse Premium renewal + $499.99 DLX version + plus taxes). As the wise poet-philosopher Tom Petty once said, "the waiting is the hardest part". Let's get on with it already, Hasbro!
-
I don't actually think the Tonnikas will be a part of this. So this would then be a unnecessary discussion.
But to me it's too extreme. Of course this tactic has been used forever. But the long term collectors have clamored too long for these figs to have them a part of a $400 item.
Maybe there are other examples and because I either didn't care or bought the item, I'm being unreasonable.
Or maybe I'm over thinking what the Tonnikas mean to people.
-
I see both sides of this issue where people want the Tonnikas and they should be a semi-normal release. It'd be great if they made them a general release, but if that were going to happen it would have happened a long time ago. Its never going to happen.
I think this might be Hasbro's only way to "sneak" the verbotten Tonnikas in to an offering since the cantina is a customer direct HasLab "fan holy grail" item that isn't a normal commercial item.
Sure it'll stink for figure collectors and carded collectors, but I'm like Jeff in that I'll likely back whatever they offer around the HasLab cantina and if we end up getting a truly exclusive figure (not just a deco/card variant) then I'm okay with that assuming its something controversial like the Tonnikas that we would otherwise never get.

"HASLAB TVC CANTINA
INCLUDES THREE ALL
NEW FIGURES AND
THREE UNLOCKABLE
FIGURE TIERS"
I have to admit I was hoping for more than just three all-new figures in this HasLab (out of a rumored 6-8 pack-ins) but the fact that there are some resculpts coming is not a surprise if one of Hasbro's goals is to get some ANH Cantina dudes up to TVC card standard (like a TVC-level Wuher).
I guess I hold out hope that there will be some more ALL-NEW Cantina Dudes coming via Hasbro Pulse/Amazon style carded 4-packs or something...
-
I'm hoping the "three unlockable figure tiers" are three more all new figures as well, so we get a total of six.
-
I'm hoping the "three unlockable figure tiers" are three more all new figures as well, so we get a total of six.
That's how I'm reading it.
-
I'd think so, I don't see how repaints, repacks and resculpts would drive orders. Tonnika Sisters at the end of the unlocks would guarantee it makes all the goals.
-
So what Hasbro would do is put one Tonnika in the 3 included figures, and then the second as the third tier, which would de facto be a repaint anyway. Everybody wins?
-
Imagine the catastrophe if they got to a tier for making one Tonnika Sister and not the other.
-
Imagine if none of them are the Tonnikas! :-X :'(
-
Deep down I think you're right.
But I hope you're wrong.
-

I don't see how repaints, repacks and resculpts would drive orders.
While I would love for all of the HasLab pack-ins to be Cantina Alien weirdos we don't already have, the way Jayson only called out three of the figures to be "all new" leads me to believe that we're getting a combo of all-new, never made before characters and some new resculpts (hopefully for things like Wuher or Hammerhead and not wasting slots on resculpts that would sell in the basic figure line like Old Ben or Farmboy Luke).
I hope I'm wrong and we're getting 6-8 first time cantina dudes, but I'm way too pessimistic to believe that could happen (even in a HasLab).
-
On Rebelscum, Jayson further clarified the 6 figures contain no main characters, as well as saying 3 of them are aliens...but not how those 3 break down among included or unlocks.
-
So what Hasbro would do is put one Tonnika in the 3 included figures, and then the second as the third tier, which would de facto be a repaint anyway. Everybody wins?
That is so evil, I can totally see Hasbro doing this.
Imagine if none of them are the Tonnikas! :-X :'(
This is probably more likely.

The GI Joe team said that they are revealing their HasLab at SDCC... do you think Hasbro would announce the Star Wars one as well?
-
The GI Joe team said that they are revealing their HasLab at SDCC... do you think Hasbro would announce the Star Wars one as well?
That would go against their normal plan to release two at once. There are probably a fair number of Joe and SW collectors that do both, so they might be going for the same expendable cash.
Are there any Celebrations, big web casts, or other events coming up where it would make sense to drop the SW HasLab?
-

That would go against their normal plan to release two at once.
I think their "normal plan" probably went out the window when they missed the original May 4th reveal date for this one.
Launching them both at SDCC may be the only option they have left to make sure both projects get a lot of general collector eyeballs on them. One alternative is waiting until Pulse Con in October to launch the SW one but if they are planning another brand HasLab reveal there then you'd be competing with that one anyway.
I guess maybe the alternative is to announce this one at a special SW Fan Stream so that it starts in June and then ends around SDCC. Then they could still use the SDCC panel/booth to show off the model and try to drive some end of campaign sales?
-
At this point, Hasbro just needs to hurry up and officially announce it. Enough details are getting out that if they don't get ahead of them and get official info out there, the actual product could end up disappointing people if it is any less glamorous than the rumors.
-
If the Cantina is the Haslab...they've screwed up royally by not announcing it already.
If they've backtracked and decided the Cantina will be a pre-order like the Jabba's Palace Boba Fett's Throne Room, and they are making something else for Haslab, we might not see it until next year.

Oh boy!
They'd better be sure this time.
-
If this is the Cantina, this will be a tough decision for me. Even though I sold all my Hasbro stuff, I still back both the Sail Barge and the Razorcrest. I set up the later with retro figures, which is the only Hasbro thing I still collect.
When I sold my stuff, I kept three sets of loose figures. The first was Jabba's palace stuff for the Sail Barge and any future Jabba's palace playset. The second was a bunch of Empire figures in case they ever made a Death Star or Star Destroyer playset. The last set, was cantina aliens.
Do I have room for this? Of course not. Heck my Barge and Razorcrest are still in boxes since I moved last September. When I finally get stuff sold, I will have room in the basement, but do I want to buy something else just to sit for years? I guess I will see tomorrow.

Shorter than usual run time - only 32 days. Ends July 8th.

OMG! I'm stunned. I can't believe it! I am very happy to be wrong about the Tonnika sisters.
-
I like that they've made a base and deluxe option, and made it quite modular. I think I'm just going to back the base set and probably strip off some of the entry area. Its just too big and I'm not sure how I would display the whole thing and be able to see what is going on.
Who knows, maybe I'll get the whole thing just to be a completist and shove half of it in a box just in case.
Pretty cool how they made some of the sections able to be disassembled and configured however you want to do them.
-
I backed the deluxe version. :)

I am very happy to be wrong about the Tonnika sisters.
Ditto. I really thought we'd never get them. Glad to be wrong about that. Glad they went through the effort with LFL to get it all figured out.
-
TONNIKAS!!! ;D ;D
This will be funded by the end of the day lol…I’m extremely tempted now myself.
-
All this needs is to hit the funding threshold because I don't think anyone will care about the three tier bonus figures. Honestly those are pretty disappointing, but at least they didn't make the Tonikka sisters the bonus tiers.
Maybe, I'm missing it, but does anyone see the dimensions on this set? Would like to know how much space it would require. Might be hard to pass on this one.
-

Yeah, the tiers are kinda unimportant. I'm not sure any of these "unlock" figures are going to tip someone over to pull the trigger. If the Tonnikas don't get you to buy in, nothing will.
It does add some extra value though. You figure $18 a figure if they were going to release these as a normal release, although I'm not sure I would have bought another Greedo...
-
I'm trying to decide if I'm going to back 2 of these or not. I am definitely going to back 1 deluxe set. And I'm thinking of backing 1 of the base version in order to get a second set of the figures.
-
They were pretty careful to mention that Wuher, Tonnikas were fully exclusive to the set but the tiers only had "exclusive cardbacks". I guess that way if they don't get unlocked, they can still use them in some other box set or something.
Capturing the pipeline reveals here... this project is so crazy - Tonnikas, a big swing to knock off some ANH "make the mains". Lots of resculpts but lots of love for ANH with this wave and the recent Vader/R2/Leia wave too.

Hasbro is clearly paying attention to the feedback from the community over time. But I think the pace at which announcements like these have been coming shows that the line can't turn on a dime. Patience will always be required to see some things through to completion.
-
We've passed 1k backers!
My brain is already in overdrive coming up with things I hope to see to support this HasLab.
We got a new Skiff to go with the Sail Barge; maybe we get a new Landspeeder to go with this? Or a new Dewback in TVC Box? So many figure options for a carded 3-pack or 4-pack of alien weirdos at Pulse or Amazon. A Sandtrooper troop builder 4-pack.
I can't wait to see what else they have in store for us.
-
I ended up backing the deluxe version, because why not spend $100 more?
I don't think I'll end up displaying it with all the deluxe alcoves, etc. as I just don't think you can see what is going on with all the walls up.
On one hand I love the completist aspect of this piece:
- The bar
- Two "wings" of alcoves
- The entry and exterior parts
On the other hand I feel its a little "lazy" that you just create everything as its shown in the movie and maybe not make a very good toy.
I do love that its modular and customizable, so I'll mess with it and likely display the main bar parts but maybe leave off all or parts of the entry, and probably at least some of the alcoves.
I like their creativity in the modular aspect of this. I hope this playset works well and that will help them continue to think about how to do a modular Death Star.
-
Those crazy bastards did it. I can’t believe the Tonnika Sisters are in there. I was on work calls and missed the whole reveal. I have some catching up to do.
-
The way they were stressing unique card backs, sounds to me like a lot of these figures are getting re-released in the main line. We'll hear about that on 9 July.
Like it was said before, I've never been so happy to be wrong in my life!
I'm probably going to back this....but I have no clue how I'm going to display this!
-
1700 backers in 2 hours. Not bad! I think we could hit the 8,000 mark by Monday.
-
I’m also on the fence about backing two of these. I want an extra set of the Tonnikas carded, but don’t necessarily want to drop and extra $420 or so to get them.
Overall I love the set. Initially I wasn’t thrilled with the unlock tiers and was hoping for some newer dudes but, the all look good and I won’t be bummed if we miss any of them if we get them in the main line.
I did three Ghosts (one for me, one for the carded figures, and one for future investment) not sure if I’ll do that for this since we don’t even have The Ghost yet. It is tempting but that’s a lot of cash and space.
For those thinking about more than one, are you going to do deluxe or standard on the extras? I think I may do the Deluxe for mine and then standard for any extras.
Only gripe, and it is pretty minor, is I don’t like the exterior of the alcove modules. I wish they had a cover to finish them like the outside of the building, or even a faux finish. I will probably look into custom making something to cover those.
-
So, do those old cantina 2 packs fit into this set somehow? ;D
Might have got missed, since it was the last post on the previous page, but do we know the dimensions of this set?
At least all the old cantina figures I kept will have a home. I wonder if this will be best displayed on a table of some sort as opposed to a shelf.
Already up to 2300/8000. This thing will be funded pretty quickly. I think the 17,000 will be a breeze.
I'm all for a Death Star or Star Destroyer next time.
-
So is there a way to configure this thing that would let it display reasonably well on a shelf that's only 12" deep?
Looks like this one was maybe NOT designed with shelves in mind... but I haven't watched the entire video. I'm hoping maybe you can just rearrange the pieces in a way that works relatively well on a shelf? It feels like maybe if it breaks into enough pieces I could figure something out...

I think you would have to nix all the alcoves and entry area and just do the bar to get it to fit on a 12" deep shelf, and then there wouldn't be much room for figures.
This is definitely not 12" deep shelf friendly.
-

Might have got missed, since it was the last post on the previous page, but do we know the dimensions of this set?
The old bar / bar stool combinations won't make sense paired with this setup. The figures will and you could re-use the bar glasses, etc. I've made a pretty sweet setup with all those bar pieces, which is one of the reasons I'm not quite as jazzed about this set as I could be.
They've got overall dimensions posted on the HasLab page - 32x19 (basic) or 32x29 (deluxe). I'm not sure how the individual sections break out for size if you just wanted to use the bar - I'm guessing its about 9" deep by about 16" long.
-
The dimensions of this set are something that I think simply couldn't be avoided. When the Throne Room set was announced I distinctly remember Emily talking about how they designed it to fit the depth of a standard shelf. I appreciated that level of attention to detail in that case, and kept those guidelines in mind when the Cantina rumors started to surface.
I had seen some custom Cantina dioramas - one of which might have been posted here. And I think the base offering wound up being quite similar to that design. But it got me thinking about the dimensions, and whether or not those guidelines that had been laid out for the throne room would apply here, too. So I tried sketching out I a basic floorplan, and I had a difficult time imagining the set as being only 12" deep. I was kind of expecting something like this.
I think the modular nature of the set might be a big help in displaying this on a shelf. It might be possible to place both banks of alcoves at the back of the shelf, as if the whole thing has been opened like a book. And the bar might be able to stick straight out in between the two banks of alcoves. I saw someone make a custom Cantina that was displayed like that. Otherwise? I think you're looking at a table top for displaying this.
-

This is definitely not 12" deep shelf friendly.
Yeah I'm wondering if I could do something silly like just not attach the diagonal piece and bar, and then sort of spread them out a little bit to create a bit of a Cantina area in a 12" shelf, rather than trying to have it overhang or whatever. It'll be an interesting challenge. I'm going to buy one regardless, but I have nearly 5000 figures on 12" deep shelves, I'm not going to go moving some of them onto a coffee table or whatever just to have it be displayed in full.
Meanwhile, as far as backing it... Looks like my free shipping just expired and will need to be renewed before I back this. I'm thinking I'm suddenly in no rush to place my order, since waiting until I need to order something else can just draw out how soon I need to re-up my 12 months again.
-
So we are look at either a table or custom shelf for this thing. At this point you could probably get something built to house both this and the Sail Barge. Makes the decision a bit tougher. I still have dozens of totes in the basement taking up space. I don't see how I can pass this up though.
-
I’m in the same boat as I imagine many others are, incredibly excited about all of this but have no idea where it will go. That said, I’ll be backing as well. Still trying to decide which version to go with and if I need the extra “side” or not.
I’ve always told myself, with all the things I collect and try to display, OT, 3 and 3/4” Star Wars would be the last to go. I’m in on that segment until the end. I think this whole thing looks pretty great, and although yes it would be nice if it was considerably cheaper, it isn’t unexpected.
Although I don’t regret backing any of them, the more of these we get I wonder if I should have passed on the Razor Crest and Ghost. It’s getting to the point where you would just need a separate building or shed to display them all properly. I already have 90% of my vehicles, as well as the Jabba throne room packed away. Time to make some choices to free up room.
-
We passed 3k a little while ago - not bad for the first day considering this is squarely targeted at the old man collector segment.
-
Any idea on where the Cantina Band is supposed to be? I’m imagining it’s in a space opposite the door behind the bar. It would have been nice to get a small stage or riser for them
-
The top of the stairs might be a good place?
-
If you're looking at the space from the entrance? I would say the second or third alcove on the right. But the funny thing about the scene is that you can never really place the band anywhere specific relative to the other characters. And their space does seem to have a small riser, as well.
-
Looks like the maps point to an alcove in the Deluxe section of the playset
-
I was looking at the bandstand alcove situation yesterday and the pic Scott posted has the proper spot for the band. It’s supposed to be slightly larger than the seat alcoves so what is coming in the playset will not be accurate if that is a concern anyone has. There should then be another seat alcove in the far back corner of the cantina, but looks like Hasbro went for symmetry instead
-
Hasbro missed a huge opportunity with the set.
Modern Blue Snaggletooth.
It's not too late, add another tier Hasbro!!!!!
-

They got me again... the 3.75" Ghostbusters 4-Pack... I want it.
So I renewed Pulse a day after saying I wasn't in any hurry, and will go back the Cantina now.
-
Looks like the maps point to an alcove in the Deluxe section of the playset
Thanks for posting this, Scott! I have this book and completely blanked on using it as a reference in this instance.
I think some screen caps of the various shots in the scene can help place other characters around the Cantina.
-
It woulda been great to get a small band riser with a button and sound chip to play the cantina theme.

I have a full set of these, thanks to Colman, no less! And I never opened them. I think some of the batteries still work, too.
-
I have just one. I always wanted to buy them all but figure they’re basically the same figure and cost $50 each, which is a lot.
-
That is cool. I don't think I ever even knew they existed.
Yeah, they should have made a small riser with a sound chip like they did on that carded figure.
-
Backed my first Haslab.

Yeah, they should have made a small riser with a sound chip like they did on that carded figure.
Mr Skeezler set up a diorama with a sound clip - I think it might have been the Sail Barge, and used an mp3 player that looped the audio.
Something similar would be great for this set. "Mad About Me" is readily available for download. But the song "Cantina Band 2" is a little more difficult to come by.
-
I have already started looking into LED options for lighting and found some really small bluetooth speakers that you could disguise as a small round table. My plan is to do a playlist of the cantina sounds on a loop that I can play from my phone to the bluetooth speaker when showing off the table/room.
I am planning to put my modal nodes in that second alcove on the DLX side sort of like that image Scott posted. That seems to be the most likely spot for the band to be.
I'm sure someone will come up with some kind of cheap 3rd party band riser that will fit in an alcove. I also expect a certain someone will come up with a nice cardboard floor piece and something to close off those three open doors/arches at the back and behind the bar. ;)
I'm sure I'll be rewatching youtube videos from old Celebration "behind the cantina scenes" type videos for inspiration and to figure out who goes where.
-
But the song "Cantina Band 2" is a little more difficult to come by.
I suppose ripping an MP3 of it would work (I own the discs).

Matthew Cohen, the photographer who shot the glam shots of the Cantina shared with me that they used balloon LED's. He said they're readily available on Amazon.
Amazon - Balloon LED's (https://www.amazon.com/s?k=balloon+led+lights&crid=25C5FMNK4FPUA&sprefix=balloon+led%2Caps%2C108&ref=nb_sb_ss_ts-doa-p_1_11)

I'm so excited for this Haslab, and I already love my custom cantina. Oh well, I'm in for 2 of these, one deluxe and one base.
The thing that's annoying me is the backlash on social media from collectors saying they're going to boycott this for some reason or another. Generally it's like "I've been a collector for years and have all sorts of Star Wars tattoos and no one talks about the Cantina at all," or "I'm not backing this until Hasbro guarantees they'll be making Shin, Baylan, [the list of new media demands goes on from here]." The Star Wars fan community never misses an opportunity to shoot itself in the face I suppose.

Please post what you figure out for the LED lights and bluetooth speaker.
I checked out Nicklab's balloon light suggestion, but I'm hoping to find something more permanent.
-
I think the balloon lights will minimize the footprint without requiring wiring. But they have a finite lifespan.
-
This one just hit the halfway point - 4,002.
-
I am a sucker and backed two sets as well - One "deluxe" for me, and one "standard" for the extra figures. I wonder what the best option to sell the second playset to recoup some of the cost will be - 1) whole, minus the carded figures or 2) break up each of the modules so that people who didn't want to go for the full cantina can get just a piece?
It might be time to officially rename this thread, too. :)
-
After the way the Barge went I did that with the Razor Crest and ended up storing a giant box for two years to maybe make $150 more than I paid.
So I didn’t bother with the Ghost, and don’t plan on bothering with this one unless we get to the last minute and the numbers are comparatively low. If there are 25,000 or
30,000 of these out there I just don’t think they’ll have much resell value.
-
Yeah, I'm definitely not expecting to pull a profit on the second set (unless I keep it forever, I don't have the space for that). I am just hoping to get as much back as I can to help offset the cost of having one set of loose & carded figures. If I can get $325-$350 total for the rest of it I'd be ecstatic.
-
I’m probably in the minority here, but I’m not entirely interested in this set and it’s a fairly easy pass for me... Don’t get me wrong as it looks FANTASTIC and the potential for diorama setups and photography are near-endless (particularly given all the accessories) just it’s not as interesting to me as a larger spaceship or vehicle would have been. The set will also command a bit of shelf space I don’t really have and I can’t exactly hang the Cantina from a wall or the ceiling, although that would make for an interesting display ;D
-

Oh yeah, if you want part of it that makes total sense.
Separately, at the end of the day the flippers help get the thing made and help hit the stretch goals, so this is a rare situation where I'm kind of not against it.
-
Yeah, I'm definitely not expecting to pull a profit on the second set (unless I keep it forever, I don't have the space for that). I am just hoping to get as much back as I can to help offset the cost of having one set of loose & carded figures. If I can get $325-$350 total for the rest of it I'd be ecstatic.
Separating it out may work best. Some folks may just want the bar. Others like myself may just need/want an extra alcove. And who doesn’t want more cups? ;D
-
Vern over at Oakhurst studios floated the option of just being able to purchase the deluxe portion for $100. Awesome idea!
-
I can't imagine that helps Hasbro hit their revenue goals, but it would be a fun option for sure.

Remember when they said the only way to get Beskar Mando with the soft goods cape would be with the Razor Crest???
We've received him Four different times and the last one was by himself on a card.
They will release the Tonnika Sisters and Wuher separately...I wouldn't be surprised if they are pipelined on 9 July.
-
They will release the Tonnika Sisters and Wuher separately...I wouldn't be surprised if they are pipelined on 9 July.
That would be an epically ballsy move to say "these are exclusive to this set" and then immediately flip on that 1 day after the campaign ends.
-
The backed rate has sort of stalled. I’m sure there will be enough backers to get this funded but it’s not like the razor crest that was backed in a day.
Anybody remember how long it took the ghost to get funded?

Cool. Thanks. That is roughly what I remember with The Razor Crest and The Ghost both backing within 48 hours. This one flattened out much quicker than those.
-
I wonder how much of this early stall has to do with the Cantina itself (size, price, lowered interest in OT from newer collectors or newer collectors without enough other figures to fill it in) VS. other factors like it not being revealed at Comic-Con/Celebration, there are other HasLabs that haven't shipped yet.
Hasbro put out another promo video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vBf1p1pqERw) for the Cantina today with alternate display tips. It was a good idea for them to show how it displays on a standard shelf. Maybe that will help bump the backer numbers up a bit.

Important to note too that RC was only 6k to fund initially and that was part of helping it fund so quick. The Ghost funded during day 4.
This is such a unique item, it's hard to track it to the others. It's not based on recent, new media. It's a playset and not a ship. It's the first time Hasbro has asked this much for a playset. I think the fact it's old and costs a lot are hurting it a bit with casual collectors or speculators who still have money tied up in extra Ghosts that they ordered.
I know I talked about this back in the Ghost thread, but the average HasLabs runs about 6 weeks - they generate about 1/3 of backers in the first week, 1/3 in the middle 4 weeks, and 1/3 in the last week. This HasLab being only 32 days instead of 45 is going to hurt it probably.
If we look at things that way, based on where we are today, the math for an average HasLab says this is trending towards 12k-14k to finish. Again, with a smaller middle section, we might be in trouble hitting that 17k tier for Ariel. This HasLab is just different enough it's hard to predict how it will go.

That video was really well done. Its quite long, but great too see how you could display it on a couple standard shelves

Day 10 - 4979, 21+ days to go...

Again, with a smaller middle section, we might be in trouble hitting that 17k tier for Ariel. This HasLab is just different enough it's hard to predict how it will go.
I took some time this weekend to pull up the previous TVC HasLab data again. Here's a list of the approximate totals for the first week of the campaign, the middle 4 weeks of the campaign, and the last week of the campaign. Format = # of backers (% of total backers)
Barge - 1840 (21%), 1920 (22%), 5080 (57%)
Crest - 8990 (32%), 6290 (22%), 12830 (46%)
Ghost - 8770 (40%), 3330 (15%), 9665 (44%)
The average HasLab/crowd fund gets about 1/3 in the first week. The Star Wars HasLabs seem to really skew towards the FOMO in the last week with a smaller middle and a larger last week (45-55% of backers coming in the last week).
The problem for any modelling though is that all three of these had slightly different set-ups (Barge was the first ever HasLab; RC had 5 tiers that were added over time; Ghost had static tiers so everyone knew them ahead of time) and the Cantina is different yet again (1st playset, campaign is 2 weeks shorter) so it's harder to predict what will happen.
With the Cantina, we had ~4800 backers in the first week.
If this follows the average trend of Razor Crest/Ghost (35%, 20%, 45%), then we'll see something like this:
---Cantina: 4800 (35%), 2740 (20%), 6175 (45%). That would put us at 13,715 (no unlock for Tier 2/3 :().
If this follows closer to The Ghost, which had three known tiers (40%-15%-45%), then we'd see something like this:
---Cantina: 4800 (40%), 1800 (15%), 5400 (45%). That would put us at 12,000 (no unlock for tier 2/3 :().
Neither of those projects takes into account though that the middle section of this campaign is only 2 weeks instead of 4. Will that cost us backers or will those backers just decide sooner or later and be part of the 1st/last week?
My best guestimate based on the data so far is 11k-13.5k for this one. I have confidence that we'll get the Cantina funded and probably Greedo, but Tier 2/3 are really starting to worry me already.
(ps - yes, if you were paying close attention, I have completely ignored The Rancor as I do not want to acknowledge that model as an alternative path that this HasLab could follow... :-X).
-
Thanks Jeff, that's a good read.
Is there a reason why the ordering window is shorter than normal? And am I remembering right that in the past they've extended them on certain projects? Maybe they could just change the end date.
-
Is there a reason why the ordering window is shorter than normal?
They did not give one, but I'm assuming it's just time lost because they did not announce it on 5/4 as planned and they probably have some internal dates they need to hit for things?
And am I remembering right that in the past they've extended them on certain projects? Maybe they could just change the end date.
They added almost a whole month to the TFers Unicron campaign, but that was because they opened up orders to Japan/Tomy and had to add time to make it happen.
They added a day to the GI Joe 6" Dragonfly campaign because there were some tech issues that prevented orders at one point in the campaign.
I can't recall if they extended any others...
-
I think the date got pushed back because of a decision from Lucasfilm. All of the promotion work for the franchise prior to announcement of the Haslab campaign was devoted to the premiere of The Acolyte on Disney+. And then 3 days after the first two episodes dropped the promotion machine is able to shift gears to the TVC Cantina Haslab. I don’t think it’s a coincidence.

So, where are we at now?
4800 first week - 900 (middle 1/2 done) - ? last week
I still have faith that the Cantina and probably Greedo will fund.
I am still holding out hope that we get a crazy mega-FOMO push at the end to get more tiers. After all, the models are just that - models. Although having to basically triple the number in the last two weeks to get Ariel unlocked is not optimal.
-
Yeah I don't have high hopes for that one.
Which the more I think about it the more obnoxious it is. Like, people either want the Cantina or they don't. Sure you order one for the figures too, especially the Tonnika Sister.
But, I can't imagine many people who are on the fence ordering one specifically hoping to help unlock the tiers. So essentially they're nice bonuses, but probably not a big driver of more preorders.
Meaning, if the product they're attached to isn't popular enough to sell 17,000 units, this thing that could have been on a regular card anyway might never happen. Which would be a bummer.
Hopefully if it doesn't make it, enough of the digital sculpting work is done to make it an easy and cost effective figure to pipeline later anyway.
-
The problem is the extra tiers are all lackluster. Who needs another Greedo? Even though the other two are a bit more interesting, they have been done before, even though it has been quite some time. And they have already said they would rerelease them on another cardback. Make a Chalmun or an Ackmena, then maybe you would see higher numbers. Ultimately it boils down to people wanting to drop $400 to $500 on an item that takes up a lot of space.
-
I remember they said those unlocks would be on different cards, but do they still get released on other cardbacks if they don’t get unlocked in the Haslab? If that’s the case I really don’t care if they get unlocked here…
-
And they have already said they would rerelease them on another cardback.
I remember they said those unlocks would be on different cards, but do they still get released on other cardbacks if they don’t get unlocked in the Haslab?
According to Steve Evens on Instagram, they need to get unlocked to be made at all.

Whether you believe Steve is another thing I guess.
-
That’s what I’d thought.
Ultimately if they reversed course that would just lead people to not take them at their word next time.

I agree one the poor choice of the tiered characters. I can't get on board with Ackmena and Chalmun feels like more of a figment of my imagination. I would take less marketable but odd looking characters like Atheloe.

The tier system for big time HasLab items really doesn't make much sense.
I get it when you're a small, independent company, and you really don't have a great sense for demand for your offering, and when the pricing is a lot lower or where you might buy multiples. I did a handful in the early days for Boss Fight Studious. And having tiers in this situation can help create some real momentum to keep the campaign going.
When it comes to a $400 HasLab purchase where unlocking the tiers is really just gravy to the overall offering doesn't really make sense. If I'm on the fence about dropping $400, I really don't think getting a new Greedo or even an all new figure (other than maybe the Tonnikas) is going to move the needle much. If Hasbro really is interested in making those figures they should just include it with the base offering and create that much value for everyone from the beginning. And honestly, Hasbro should have a pretty good read on the TVC market to know where these types of things are going to roughly end up, so they should be able to create an offering from the beginning that makes financial sense for them and offers enough value for consumers.
-

Sounds like you are saying that Hasbro should not be in the crowd-fund business then?
Set a manufacturing run of 15k units for a Hasbro Pulse $350 Cantina set with Wuher; a $50 Tonnika sister carded 2-pack; and a $55 Greedo, Nabrun, Ariel carded 3-pack at Amazon. No HasLab needed.
-
It wouldn't make any difference to me.
That they're reducing the price on the Jabba's Palace set has me thinking that play sets will continue to be crowdfunded though going forward... enough guaranteed sales or no go.
-
From what I see online, TVC still has a pretty healthy fanbase. And it's one of the rare modern toylines that has held or increased in value over the years. If the Tonnika Sisters' first figures aren't enough to at least get the base package backed, what are we even doing here anymore? People have been requesting them from Hasbro for as long as I have been on the Internet! I know Star Wars isn't popular at all right now, but there is no way that interest is so low that this set can't get made.
I'm sure this will be like the Barge where a huge surge at the end gets it made. My personal conspiracy theory is that the US economy stinks right now, and $4-500 is a LOT to ask for most people.
-
Just remember that the "huge surge" for the Barge only resulted in 8,000 units being made...and it happened when Hasbro added the POTF carded Yakface to the package, not really in the final few days.
HasLabs these days have truly huge end spikes, though. Once it funds there will be a huge spike of the people with their heads on the sand who "need" a complete collection, but are currently hoping for the project to not fund so they don't have to drop $400 on 3 new figures.
It all depends on how much time is left after it funds.
-

*8,800.
Also, we can't really 0say whether that surge was because it was the last minute (which seems to be a regular thing) or if it was because of the Yak Face.

Weird dumb human psychology... you don't get charged if it doesn't fund. So if that's your rationale, why bother waiting?
-

No, that's not what I'm saying. I'm all for the crowd-funded business, especially for massive items like this that you can't sell at retail.
The point I was trying to make was that I think the bonus tiers are not an incentive for anyone. They should just skip the tiers and have one offering (or a base and deluxe). I just don't see how the extra three unlocked figures changes the equation for anyone. Either include them or don't include them. Heck, create a "Deluxe +" for another $60 and throw those three figures in there. I would have gone for that.
-
Also, we can't really 0say whether that surge was because it was the last minute (which seems to be a regular thing) or if it was because of the Yak Face.
The Yakface was added on March 21st, and the campaign ended on April 3rd. If you look at Barge graphs, it was flat and had stalled out under 3,000 backers until Yakface, and from there it slopes upward and then gets a little bigger on the last day, but not the huge spike like more recent Haslabs have had.
It was definitely the addition of Yakface that sold the Barge.
-
Fair enough! I can’t remember it at that level of detail.
-
I had to look up the dates, but I remembered there were still weeks to go, because it seemed to me like they were poised to also add Klaatu if they needed to, but then didn't.
-
We're currently at 5.964. I think we'll pass 6,000 today. And it looks like a couple hundred new orders got added last night by some international retailer.
I think we can look at this situation as not all Haslab campaigns are sacrosanct. Some campaigns have been extended - I know that happened with the Transformers Unicron campaign, and that was in the earliest days of Haslab. More incentives have been added to campaigns while they were in progress.
I'm trying to remember about the Black Rancor campaign and the Luke Skywalker stretch goal. Didn't that figure end up getting made in a slightly different rendition? And then Hasbro was prepared to add Malakili.
Failures don't look good, and I think Hasbro will try to get this to succeed. But they have been leaning heavily on the TVC online community to do a lot of the promotional work. That's concerning to me.
-

Bumping these #s up again since it's relevant... first week, middle weeks, last week (go back in the thread for a deeper dive on the math):
Barge - 1840 (21%), 1920 (22%), 5080 (57%)
Crest - 8990 (32%), 6290 (22%), 12830 (46%)
Ghost - 8770 (40%), 3330 (15%), 9665 (44%)
The Star Wars HasLabs seem to really skew towards the FOMO in the last week with a smaller middle and a larger last week (45-55% of backers coming in the last week).
Cantina - 4800, 1150 (and counting), ?? last week. If this follows the same path as the others, we''re looking at an end of 11-12k. I am hoping because this is OT that we'll get a larger than usual FOMO last minute push.
The point I was trying to make was that I think the bonus tiers are not an incentive for anyone.
Yeah, I can see that. I guess it's maybe a value issue and how you see those tiers.
When these crowd-fund things started, the idea was that the development cost is buried in the base backing level. Once you get past that base level, you reward the buyers for helping get your product made.
So, the development cost for the Cantina, Wuher, Tonnikas should be buried in that $400 for 8k items.
If items 8k-11k are sold, there is more profit there since the development costs are covered in the first 8k units. The idea is the company is using the extra profit from units 8k-11k to invest in something more for the buyers as a reward (ie the tooling for Greedo).
Tiers are supposed to be your reward for believing in the product and helping to get it made. Or at least that was the idea when these were started on kickstarter or indigogo or whatever.
-
I'm trying to remember about the Black Rancor campaign and the Luke Skywalker stretch goal. Didn't that figure end up getting made in a slightly different rendition? And then Hasbro was prepared to add Malakili.
Those tiers were horrendous. First unlock was a Gamorrean Guard, a rerelease on a new card. Second unlock was a bunch of bone/skull props. 3rd tier was Salacious Crumb, another rerelease. Tier 4 was the new Luke based on Jabba's Palace, and I think the version they made for ROTJ40 was based on the Throne Room attire. But they already had also made a Luke based on Jabba's Palace as a Walmart Exclusive, so none of the figures were new.
-
Oh, I'm no disputing that the tier unlocks for the Rancor were bad. I was mostly wondering if that Luke truly wound up being "exclusive", or if it made its way out in some form at a later date.
-
I was mostly wondering if that Luke truly wound up being "exclusive", or if it made its way out in some form at a later date.
I am not a Black Series expert since I don't buy that line, but I think I recall some people speculating if parts from that unlocked Jedi Luke were repurposed for the BS6" Luke from The Mandalorian?
-
That's what I was thinking, too.
Evidently there was a Fan Site Q&A session yesterday. But I don't think it was one that they were allowed to record and share on their social media channels. Either that, or it has been embargoed to some degree.
The majority of the conversation centered on the Cantina - a breakdown of all of the accessories, the dimensions, how the base model vs the deluxe offering will ship, availability of the figures, etc. The info is floating around pretty readily.
What has irked me during this process is that Hasbro has not been offering up weekly promotional updates on the Cantina themselves. They seem to be leaning on the collecting community in a big way to get the word out. They plan to show it off at SDCC next month, but that seems kind of late considering the timeline of the campaign. It almost makes me think that the effort is somewhat half-hearted on Hasbro's part.
The whole #ReturnToTatooine topic was discussed, also. That will take on the far flung outer rim desert planet as seen in multiple films and shows, but won't be a focus of the SDCC presentation. And as I mentioned elsewhere, they also announced Momaw Nadon as a TVC pipeline reveal.
-
What has irked me during this process is that Hasbro has not been offering up weekly promotional updates on the Cantina themselves.
Yeah, it always feels like the Joe team or the Marvel team are way more invested in doing updates and promos during the campaign and the Star Wars team just leaves it to the fans. Since the announcement they did, what, one video on how it would look on a shelf? And I don't even know if the official Hasbro social accounts even reposted it. Then the fan Q&A thing (which always seems so random who they invite or don't invite these days) but with haphazard coverage across various sites.
Is it so hard to do a weekly update on insta live or post a little video on Twitter/X? I don't get it...
-
For that matter, I don’t think I’ve ever gotten a single update about the Ghost anywhere along the way. No emails, FB posts, Instagram, etc. I feel as though there was a lot more recurring communication with the Barge.
-
Yeah I was just thinking the other day how weird it is they've given us close to nothing on what's up with The Ghost. It'd be nice to know something.
-
If this follows the average SW trend of Razor Crest/Ghost (35%, 20%, 45%), then we'll see something like this:
Day 10 - 4979, 21+ days to go...
Day 17 - 5708, 14+ days to go...
Day 24 - 6458, 7+ days to go...
So, where are we at now?
4800 first week - 1650 (with one day left) - ? last week
Still looks like this is following along on the same style curve as The Ghost (40%-15%-45%). We are a little under the projection for the middle (1800). Hard to say if that is because the middle is two weeks shorter than usual or if it's something else.
Baring a much larger than usual last minute FOMO push for this one, the math still says this is likely to land around 11k-13k. Not sure what impact not hitting tier 2/3 will have on backers. Will people cancel if it looks like we won't hit all tiers? I'd hate to miss Tier 2/3 and then end up missing Tier 1/Greedo too due to late cancellations.
-

Maybe there are some hardcore carded figure collectors that these figures significantly factor in to the equation for them, but I just don't see all that much value in any of these bonus tiers. I've said it before, but a tweaked Greedo is definitely not my jam. I'd grumble about paying $18 for this via normal channels as I didn't feel like it was worth it.
I think if you're in on this the tiers at the back end are nothing but gravy and don't add much value.
If they really wanted to get fanboys going they should have added a 9000 Z001 landspeeder to place outside the cantina door as a Tier 2 reward. They've still got a week to add that in, but I think that would get more people fired up to push this well past the mark than any of these figures.
-
Hoping for an unexpected finale... I really want those last two - far more than I want another Greedo.
-

I noticed a subtle shift in Hasbro's position today on the tier figures via Steve Evan's Instagram (https://www.instagram.com/p/C84NamnOpWW/?utm_source=ig_web_button_share_sheet&igsh=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==):
"If not unlocked, a tier figure might still be made in the future, but it's not guaranteed. Unlocking a tier in HasLab means that the figure's tooling would make future reuse in the line more likely."
Nice to see them cover their butts and admit even if they don't unlock there are still ways they can release these figures... I'd gladly pay $40 for a carded 2-pack of Nabrun/Ariel if needed. #dumbOTcollector

I'm guessing they've already done a ton of development work on these figures so they'll want them made one way or the other. I'll certainly pay $18 for an all new cantina alien.

4800 first week - 1800 middle section - ? last week
It's kind of crazy how closely the math/curve is following the curve from The Ghost. I guess we'll see what happens this last week.
6841 this morning so we picked up 242 overnight... 1159 to fund!
-
This is the second Haslab I've been on the fence about (the first being the Khetanna which I did not back.)
I will probably back this, but I won't do the deluxe. I wonder how many people are still on the fence like me?
-
In the initial excitement after the official reveal, I was a firm Yes, but over time my enthusiasm has cooled to Probably No. I’d still love the Tonnikas but the rest of it doesn’t do too much for me. Maybe I will get caught up in the FOMO again by the end, but it’s hard to say right now. I hope it funds as many tiers as possible though regardless.

974 to fund
3974 to Greedo
6974 to Nabrun
9974 to Ariel
Hopefully there are enough old man collectors with disposable income and/or last minute speculators looking to cash in Wuher/Tonnikas to push this thing to Nabrun at least...
-
It’s 142 higher than the number you just posted a half hour ago. Maybe another batch of overseas orders?
-
I just backed it.
-
Good man!
The way I see it, if you can afford it and aren't sure - grab one. You can easily get your money back out of it later, and break even at an absolute minimum.
7,368 / 8,000.
-
I said a long time ago that if they made the Tonnika Sisters I would buy them. Sucks that I have to spend $400 to get them, but I believe there will be a main line release of all these figures if the Cantina goes into production.

It made it!
-
I wonder if Greedo makes it at this point. Perhaps if they extended the timeline a week or two. I don't see them doubling the numbers in the next few days to unlock everything. At this point, I wonder how many more of these things they will do period. It got funded, but just barely at this point with only a few more days to go. While not a vehicle, this is one of the most iconic scenes in ANH and I would think between that and the Tonikka sisters, people would have gone nuts.

Very glad to see this fund overnight. Math/trending models still put us around 12k final when compared to past HasLab performance. Still hoping now that it's funded we get a better FOMO push to get Nabrun unlocked too.
-
It’s showing as 7980 for me, 20 to go to fund?
Edit: seems the app lags the website somewhat.

Yeah, I had been tracking through the app as well and was pleasantly surprised to see the posts that the goal had been reached. Let's see how much farther this can go.
-
Looks like there's been an uptick in backers since it hit the needed 8k.

Looks like there's been an uptick in backers since it hit the needed 8k.
Such weird psychology...
"I'll back it if it hits the goal and is getting made, even though if I did that earlier and it didn't hit the goal I wouldn't get charged anyway."
-
Such weird psychology...
I'm guessing there are some people out there hoping it doesn't fund, but then once it's "real", they buy out of obligation/FOMO. Like, "I don't want to spend $400 on this so I'm hoping it doesn't fund, but now that it's real and funded I have to buy it to make sure I get Wuher/Tonnikas" type of thing.
There are also probably people who wait to the end because they've been raising cash and just need time to save or plan for the $400-500 purchase. I'm lucky to be in a spot in life when I can just "waste" $500 on a deluxe Cantina on day 1, but I know there are a lot of others out there that really need to weigh all the options before they commit and that might take time.
-
Good points. I guess I'm looking at it much more simply as a 30 year buy-it-all guy with disposable income.

It’s good to see the campaign surging. And I still have to get my order in - if only the stupid HVAC system at my house hadn’t gone down!
It looks like the backer totals are going to power through 9,000 within the next hour or so. And the way backer numbers have been picking up I could see the potential to get to 10,000 later today. But the last 48 hours of the campaign? That’s where it surges the most. Especially with the foreign market orders and retailers that are taking a stake in it.

Day 28 - 8149, 85+ hours to go...
End Day 28 - 8756, 72 hours to go...
Day 29 - 9014, 58+ hours to go...
-
This is where the fun begins.
-
Reminiscent of the Giant Man campaign where a bunch of late funders almost got to the last tier…I still think we have a chance to get all three tiers…we’ll see!
-
Hasbro seems to have been leaving things open ended in their language about the tier unlock figures. And the choice of filmouts for the cardbacks definitely seems like they wanted to reserve certain imagery for the mainline releases.

-
With a little under a day and a half to got I feel Greedo will definitely be unlocked, Nabrul will most likely be unlocked and I'll be surprised if Ariel gets unlocked.
-
I feel the same way. I think today would have needed to have more movement to get to 17,000.
I honestly haven’t been too overwhelmed by the surge this time around up to this point. Comparing this to Ghost and Razorcrest really makes me believe that the Disney era fans have taken over, even though we know that’s been true for a long time.
-
My takeaway from this is less Lucas era vs Disney Era, and more vehicles vs playsets.
We know there are a finite number of action figure collectors left in the market. Shrinking production numbers and rising prices have shown us that the last few years.
The fact that the Ghost and the Razorcrest could sell 20k+ units would indicate there is a market BEYOND action figure buyers for, really cool, really detailed vehicles as standalone display pieces that don't require an action figure collection to look good on display.
Sadly that just isn't there for a playset. The Cantina needs action figures in context to become a cool display. That costs them a huge chunk of previous HasLab buyers.
Not unsurprisingly, the numbers for the Cantina right now look a whole lot like the gleaned sales figures for the Boba Fett Throne Room playset. 10k or so seems to be the market for a diorama playset.
The next 24 hours will give good insight into the "HasLab as an exclusive action figure delivery sysystem. If figures start unlocking and we gain several thousand more backers, then to me that says figure collectors have just gotten comfortable with the prospect of $67-$133 per figure. Which I honestly don't know how to feel about.
This has been so interesting to watch play out.
-
That’s true but don’t forget the sizable number of people who keep things in the box.

Day 30 - 10121, 26.5 hours to go...
My admittedly not perfect model (based on average TVC HasLab getting 45% of backers in the last week) put us around 12,000 as the endpoint.
4800 first week (40%) - 1800 middle (15%) - 5400 (45%) = 12k backers
In order to get Nabrun unlocked, we need 53% in the last week (and a BIG last day).
4800 (34%) - 1800 (13%) - 7400 (53%) = 14k backers
Not impossible. Will be a fun ride watching it play out overnight and tomorrow. Fingers crossed we can get Nabrun unlocked!
-
Tomorrow is going to be interesting.
-
14 hours to go and we're at 352 away from unlocking Greedo. Could this project only unlock one tier?

Could this project only unlock one tier?
Unlocking only one tier has been the most likely outcome since I started tracking the math weeks ago. The odds of unlocking Nabrun have ranged from 30% to 67% depending on the day. We are going to need a big push today to get anything beyond Greedo AND we have to hope that people do not start cancelling orders at the last minute when they realize that we are not unlocking everything...
-
If it’s really only going to unlock one tier, I’m going to be very tempted to order a second set. Smaller numbers probably mean more value later and I’m not beyond buying a second to help pay for mine.
-
Less than 300 to go to Greedo.
-
We need another 3,251 for Nabrun with 13 and a half hours to go. I'm not saying it's impossible, but it will be tight.
I remember insane numbers in the last hours for the Ghost to get Zeb unlocked...and it went way over. I wonder if we'll see a few last moment dumps of "international orders" that we've seen in past Haslabs.
-
Maybe they have a deal to sell off 4000-6000 units to online vendors to make up the balance. Who knows?
Also, did they ever post a picture of adding the deluxe side of the cantina with only the alcove arches and furniture? My thought is to look past the seated patrons and through the arches at the rest of the cantina. Maybe that's a way to display it all in one piece without walling off the whole horizontal perspective of the scene?
-
My opinion all along has been that none of the tiers should have been viewed as a given. I think they will be lucky to get to Greedo at this point.
I seriously keep bouncing back and forth on this one…may come down to an impulse decision for me later tonight.
-
I don't think finishing right around a US holiday weekend is helping this get a last minute boost.
-
The numbers have been marching steadily upward today. I can see hitting the 11,000 mark within an hour or so. And the pace tends to pick up towards the end of the day.
I think the speculators are going to swoop in this afternoon and the numbers will soar. The Sail Barge was originally $500, and regularly sells for $2K or more on the secondary market. And it had the lowest production numbers of any of the Star Wars TVC Haslab campaigns. If the Tonnika Sisters and Wuher are limited to less than 15K produced of each of them? The secondary market on those will go bananas.
-
Day 28 - 8149 (85+ hours left).
Day 28 - 8756 (72+ hours left)
Day 29 - 9014 (58+ hours left)
Day 30 - 9546 (37+ hours left)
Day 30 - 10121 (26.5 hours left)
Final Day - 10675 (14.5 hours left)
Final Day - 10865 (12 hours left)
Final Day - 10905, 11.5 hours to go...
I remember insane numbers in the last hours for the Ghost to get Zeb unlocked...
The Ghost got about 6835 backers in the final 24 hours (~30% of the total backers came in the last day). If the Cantina can do that (30% in the last day), we'd end around 14.6k. Totally possible but requires a big uptick in the backer rate.
-
My opinion all along has been that none of the tiers should have been viewed as a given. I think they will be lucky to get to Greedo at this point.
Greedo will be unlocked within an hour.
-
The tally stands at 10,978. I thought that it would have broken through the 11,000 mark a little earlier. But I think some people are fence sitting right now.
-
It's past it... 11,011
-
Greedo unlocked!
(Rob beat me by a second I think :P)

Finally placed my order(s). Do I need a new HVAC system or a TVC Mos Eisley Cantina? SMH...
-
The run for Nabrun has begun!
I'll show myself out.
-
14.5 hours left - 10,675
12 hours left - 10,865
11.5 hours left - 10,905
10.5 hours left - 11,011
9.5 hours left - 11,200
Pace is picking up now but not nearly fast enough for Nabrun. Still holding out hope we go on a big run later tonight...
edit to add:
8.5 hours left - 11,347
8 hours left - 11,400
7.5 hours left - 11,471
7 hours left - 11,517
6.5 hours left - 11,623
6 hours left - 11,760

Yeah I'd love to be wrong but if I had to put money on it I'd say no. Which is a shame, I've got like 6 Greedos already, even if this one looks great.
-
3 hours to get 1,500 more backers…
-
Unlikely but possible if we get a big last hour - some HasLabs have had 1000 in the last hour…
Still debating backing a second.
-
Same. If it gets really close I’ll probably do the $400 one.
If you cancel an order in the grace period and it was close, they wouldn’t… take away an unlock right? Maybe I should order four more to help and then cancel. :o
-
12,941 with 120 minutes to go
13,254 with 81 minutes to go
13,368 with 69 minutes to go (#nice)
13,507 with 55 minutes to go
13,580 with 49 minutes to go
-
Very possible we get Nabrun...only need 423 with 50 minutes to go.
-
It’s on pace over the last three hours. I wonder if hasbro would just fudge it if it’s close anyway.
-
13,667, 40 minutes left...
-
If they wouldn’t fudge it for how close the Rancor got, I can’t see them doing it here just for an add-on. But I think he will probably just squeak by….
-
It has been rolling along at ~10/minute for the last 1.5 hours. I don't care if it's real buyers or Hasbro shenanigans as long Nabrun unlocks...
13,800 - 30 minutes left
13,958 - 20 minutes left
-
19 minutes left and Nabrun is unlocked!
-
Can we get another 3,000 in the last 18?! :)
-
Can we get another 3,000 in the last 18?! :)
Come on Hasbro shenanigans!
14,098 backers, 15 minutes left
14,258 backers, 10 minutes left
14,427 backers, 5 minutes left

Can we get another 3,000 in the last 18?! :)
Not looking likely.
-
some HasLabs have had 1000 in the last hour
14,652 - preliminary final (this always bounces around a little as people close out their carts).
If that holds, we did about 1200 in that last 60 minutes! Way more than I was expecting. Happy that we made it because it looked so unlikely earlier today.
14,687 as of 11:10pm CT.

I wanted the wolf man more than the other unlocks… do we still think it’s likely he makes it into the main line somehow?
-
I wanted the wolf man more than the other unlocks… do we still think it’s likely he makes it into the main line somehow?
Yeah, I think so. It won't be the same cardback they showed, but I think he will come, probably in some kind of set with other Cantina guys (like the Jabba Goon 4-pack).
The Marvel Legend team has released HasLab figures that were not unlocked (like Damien Hellstrom) or alternate versions of HasLab figures that were not unlocked (Goblin Queen) as mainline releases so there is some precedent there. Of course those were from a whole HasLab that failed (Ghost Rider Car) but the point being they eventually got released.
-
A cantina alien 4-pack of it had new guys in it would be dreamy.
-
I’ve already been charged. Lol.
-
I wanted the wolf man more than the other unlocks… do we still think it’s likely he makes it into the main line somehow?
I have a feeling we'll see each of these figures pipelined on different card backs in the mainline fairly soon.
-
Happy to see the last-minute run to get us Nabrun! I too am hoping that we see Ariel make it into a Cantina 4-Pack with a few other NEW never before-made Cantina aliens. I'd be happy if they did 2-4 of those sets to help newer collectors fill out their Cantinas and get us some new aliens and much-needed updates. I'd even be fine if each set had 1-2 rereleases (depending on the figure).
I’ve already been charged. Lol.
Same. They sure didn't waste any time. After a local con this weekend and a bunch of new stuff hitting in the last week it was an egregiously expensive holiday weekend.
-
I wanted the wolf man more than the other unlocks… do we still think it’s likely he makes it into the main line somehow?
Same here! I thought that Arleil Schous was the most interesting figure of the bunch. Especially since he was infamously cut from his one big shot in the opening montage of the scene.
Based on the way things were worded about the stretch goal figures? I think it's entirely possible that we'll get them in other forms down the road. But I thin it could be a while until that happens. In the meantime? I think there's some low-hanging fruit with some other Cantina aliens. Hasbro already confirmed a new Momaw Nadon. A new Duros seems to a likelihood after the reveal of the Duros X-Wing pilot. And the Figrin D'an figure could easily yield a Lirin Car'n.
-
I just hope this means they will eventually do a pair of Retro Tonnikas ;)
-
I’m guessing this is the only place we’ll ever see them after the handwringing
over getting them made at all. There aren’t a lot of slots for the retro line and the only reason I wouldn’t rule it out completely is that they can make two toys for the price of one.
-
I just hope this means they will eventually do a pair of Retro Tonnikas ;)
Would anyone want to see a Retro Collection Cantina? I remember really liking that playset as a kid.

I wouldn't be mad if they kept the same format as the Jabba Goon set - 1 repack, 1 resculpt, 2 all-new characters. Feels like a 4-pack like that would be an easy way to get us some of those remaining humans from the Cantina.
Getting this Cantina makes me so happy... though next year my top 20 wishlist is gonna be filled with Cantina dudes... Arleil, Atheloe, Baniss, Lirin, Yerka, Rycar, Swilla, Jenny, Garouf, Tzizvvt.
I’m guessing this is the only place we’ll ever see them after the handwringing over getting them made at all.
I think Greedo and Nabrun are a lock to get re-issued on new cardbacks. The Tonnikas though? That's a tougher guess. For all we know, the only reason LFL finally green-lit them as figures was because there was a promise that they stay locked into this set and this was the only way to get them. I guess time will tell...

I went through so many rubber bands on those doors as a kid... :D

I'm debating how soon they can actually do normal releases of Greedo, Nabrun and Arleil. It would seem weird to make those standard releases available before the Cantina ships. What does it say for tier figures if they'll just make them anyway and release before the project ships? What would our motivation be to back future projects or buying multiples if the backers don't get first crack at owning new figure.
-

Pretty sure the mainline releases of Grogu and Offworld Jawa happened before the Razor Crest shipped with it's versions of those guys. And we've already got the mainline variants of Zeb and Ezra shipped with Kanan on the way soon and The Ghost hasn't shipped with it's versions of those guys yet.
Hasbro doesn't seem to have any issues with similar time release as long as there is something "unique" about the HasLab version that still makes it special/unique.
-
We're getting all of these figures in TVC's main line. They'll just be slightly different, either on a different card or slight change in accessories. Hell, Greedo is needed to complete the 96 on his own!
Bottom line: Hasbro is going to find a way to give everyone who purchased this set figures to open.

Yeah, I guess you are right. The Cantina character seem to feel different to me as we've been waiting 47 years for those. I don think I ever blinked an eye when characters from the Razorcrest and the Ghost had maneline releases in advance of the arival of the haslab ships.
-
I flaked on this one. I was still deciding on Monday about it, then got caught up with stuff on Monday night and forgot about it until I woke up on Tuesday.
Honestly it might be for the best, since my other two Haslabs are sitting in boxes in the basement, waiting for me to clear out other stuff to make space for them. Perhaps if I ever make the space, I can grab one on the second market, but I guess it is better to save the money at this point rather than store yet another large box.
-
So I recently got Ezra Kanan and Zeb to finish off the Ghost crew and it got me thinking. Every Haslab figure has made it to the main line in some form or another.
Khetanna: Yak Face was released on a Return of the Jedi card without a coin.
Razor Crest: All the carded figures made it to the main line (Jawa with less accessories, Grogu with a pram that was not vac-metalized.) They said the only way to get a Mando with a soft-goods cape was with the Razor Crest but he's been released three times already with one on a single card!
Ghost: All members of the crew have been released in the main line in some form. Ahsoka or Rebels card.
I feel the same thing is going to happen with the Cantina figures. Greedo is a definite because he is needed to finish the 96. Wuher and the Tonnika Sisters would be a little tougher, but then I saw the Mando-multipack today! That could totally be the way they bring them to the main line! They could also do that with Nabrun Leeds and other, older cantina aliens as a way to re-release them into the line!
I put these thoughts into a video on my YT channel. Premiers tomorrow at 2 pm EDT Check it out if you're interested. (https://youtu.be/EnMWN5vFhsc)
-
Wuher and the Tonnika Sisters would be a little tougher
Hasbro was pretty upfront that Greedo/Nabrun would get re-issues at some point if they unlocked. I'm sure Arleil will get made too (Hasbro probably assumed all three would get unlocked and probably already has plans for them at retail).
Of the other three, I could see Wuher being re-released in some form somewhere down the line (some pack with Evazon or Ponda or something) but I just don't know about the sisters. Their whole history was so weird and so "we're never going to do them". We don't really know why LFL finally relented. Maybe part of the deal to make them here was that they'd only ever be in this set?
Of course on the other hand saying "we're never going to do this" and then releasing them in two different ways next year would be very on brand for the "everything gets reused" SW team these days.
-
If I remember right (and I'm paraphrasing), Steve Evans said we "should consider this the only time the Sisters will be available."
The way he worded it was definitely suggesting that they wouldn't appear elsewhere, but he did leave the door cracked a little bit.
-
Agreed. Based on the history of the Tonnikas I don't expect they'll ever get released in any form ever again.
I'm sure all the others, and probably the one that didn't fund will get recarded and made eventually (and based on past history probably released before the cantina is).
-

I'm happy Steve is back on Star Wars, but his wording when answering the question was not a definite no and when he was asked, the Campaign was still going (and not fully backed at that point.)
Hasbro used much stronger language about the soft goods Mando only being available with the Razor Crest than Steve's answer.
Also, we're actually getting (what I assume is) the Jabba from the Sail Barge later this year! Nearly every Haslab Figure has shown up in the main line in some form.

Yes - Hasbro confirmed that the Jabba coming with the playset/dais is a repack of the HasLab Sail Barge Jabba (which was a repaint of the 2015 TRU Rancor Pit box set Jabba).

I had the same thoughts as Matt regarding figures released with Haslabs: usually they make it into the main line albeit with different cardback or less accessories. Many people have wanted the Sisters for 25ish years and to finally put them out behind a Haslab paywall that not everyone can afford (or can't afford multiples to keep a set carded) is a disservice to those fans. We now know Hasbro can make the Tonnikas, so make them a Pulse multi-pack exclusive kind of like Sabine and Chopper or not even on vintage cards for that matter.

Based on the cardbacks shown at SWC Japan, the pack-ins will follow the same HasLab HASxxx numbering system...
HAS007 Wuher [2025]
HAS008 Senni Tonnika [2025]
HAS009 Brea Tonnika [2025]
HAS010 Greedo [2025]
HAS011 Nabrun Leids [2025]
