Revenge of the Sith / Re: The Sad State of Padme Episode III Figures
« on: January 21, 2005, 03:17 PM »
What about Jar-Jar?  He isn't getting ANY Episode 3 figure yet...  :'(

 :P

Seriously, there isn't any reason they can't do a new Padme every year from here on out.  They should really have done at least TWO out of the first 56 figures, the fact that it is just one is kinda sad.

Maybe they should look into doing 1-2 Padme figures every year, even if they have to go the exclusive route.  Maybe a new Padme from SWShop.com every spring and another from someone else?

One thing I noticed now, that I didn't notice last night - no stands.   :(

I thought I remembered seeing pictures of these guys with stands (from Hasbro or SW.com).

Kinda disappointed that they don't have them...  :-\

I 'd like to propose a new idea for the "season" this year - A March Madness-esque Tournament of Champions.

That's right, none of this regular season mumbo-jumbo since it's too late.  Let's take the 15 teams from each division and have them play tournament style, throwing in the 2 top college teams to get to a nice even 16 teams.  Everyone makes the playoffs!

16 matchups at best of 7
8 matchups at best of 7
4 matchups at best of 7
2 match-ups at best of 7
and then the Cup finals at best of 7

At the most a team could end up playing 35 games, at the least 4 games.  I'd use the rankings from last years standings/playoff finals as the seeding for this year's tourney.

Just think, you'd have Tampa Bay as the #1 Seed in the East facing off against #16 seed Boston College.

Eastern Conference Bracket:

#1 Tampa Bay vs. #16 Boston College
#8 NY. Islanders vs. #9 Buffalo

#4 Toronto vs. #13 NY Rangers
#5 Ottawa v.s #12 Florida

#3 Philly vs. #14 Washington
#6 New Jersey vs. #11 Carolina

#7 Montreal vs. #10 Atlanta
#2 Boston vs. #15 Pittsburgh

Then, over in the west you'd have #1 Seed Calgary facing off against #16 Colorado College!

Western Conference Bracket:

#1 Calgary vs. #16 Colorado College
#8 Nashville vs. #9 Edmonton

#4 Vancouver vs. #13 Phoenix
#5 Colorado vs. #12 Anaheim

#3 San Jose vs. #14 Columbus
#6 Dallas vs. #11 Los Angeles

#7 Saint Louis vs. #10 Minnesota
#2 Detroit vs. #15 Chicago

Just look at some of those brackets!  Like the bottom braket in the West - Detroit v Chicago, the winner to face the winner of St. Louis v. Minnesota!

In fact, if the NHL does not want to do this, I think this is what I'll do this weekend with the Nintendo Game Cube.  I'll set up the "simulate game" feature and see what happens...  ;)

Clone Wars '03-'05 / Re: Clone Trooper 4 Packs!
« on: January 20, 2005, 11:06 PM »
The telling sign on well these sell, is to see how long down the road EE is still selling them. If in 6 months they still have them for sale, you can say that collectors/army builders weren't ready to drop down some good cash for these in sight of the upcoming ROTS onslaught. If in a year from now they still have these for sale, then you can say that it was definitely a bust, because at the price of the old army builder sets these should sell out within a month.

A quick update on these Clone 4-packs:

This is what EE is saying about the Clone 4-pack in their latest e-mail newsletter:

Quote
Also, I want to thank you for the overwhelming positive response we've received since announcing our exclusive Hasbro Star Wars Clone Trooper Troop Builder 4-Packs. I strongly urge anyone who wants these to order them now. This limited edition exclusive may be pre-sold out sooner than expected.

Now, take it with a grain of salt because it is in their best interest to make people think that they are almost gone, but if they are telling the truth it would seem like they are doing very well with this by pre-selling out.  Most people thought they'd sell out in like a month at the old price point, but it look like they may sell out sooner than a month even at the higher price point...  :o

It makes me wonder, would EE try to commision a second manufacturing run from Hasbro if they do pre-sell out the 4-packs from the first run?

I love it!  Those pictures are fantastic, Jared!

I can't wait to get my hands on that Wookiee!  vOTC quality articulation sure makes the $6-7 price tag easier to swallow in my mind!

Love the pics of Greivous too!   :)

Big meeting yesterday was apparently productive, but Bettman and Goodenow weren't there.  How far do you think it will go once they show up ;)

Not far.  Both have egos too large to let anything pass that they personally didn't work on.

I do admire Linden for working around the bosses at the top and trying to get something done (despite him being a hated Canuck... stupid Vancouver  >:().

I do feel though that this is too little too late and is just a last ditch attempt for both sides to be able to say "See, we tried to get them to cave" before they axe the whole thing.    :(

Perhaps we can convince Daddy Warbucks to ship us his Million Dollar Carded Kubs for a weekend of heavy fondling?  Dale? Please?

Ah no.

Fine then, let's just see if I help re-route any more packages for you...  :'(

Kubricks / Re: Power of the Kubricks!

Sweet!

The following should shipped out to me by this weekend:

Early Bird Set
Speeder Bike Set
2004 TRU 5-pack

(yeah, I blew all my Christmas cash as well as the B-Day cash too) :) 8)

Let's see... I'm definately gonna open the Early Bird Set to display Luke/Leia/Chewie/R2 with the rest (they are gonna look soooo sweet with Han/Ben/3PO).  In fact, I've already got some space set aside for them in the new Kubrick Case I've got set-up.

I'm not quite sure if I will open up either of the box sets right away, I may just enjoy them in their pretty boxes for a while until I work up the nerve to open them!

Now I just need Logray to "complete" my collection.  I decided to skip the Chase Fetts from Series 1 (for now) and the carded 'bricks can wait for a price drop too...

Holy Schnikes!

56 Basic figures?!?

Look at all those names...

AT-TE Gunner?!?  I hope this means an AT-TE is on the way!

Anakin Skywalker on Mustafar!  I wonder what that means as far as "battle damage" goes?!?

TARKIN?!?!  :o

Ah, crap... so much for avoiding spoilers.  :(

Watto's Junk Yard / Re: 2005 - What are you watching?
« on: January 20, 2005, 10:21 AM »
Here's what I usually watch over the course of a week (or I set the VCR if I'm not home - yes, we still have a VCR and not any fancy TIVO type thingy  :-[):

Sunday:
The Simpsons - Yeah, it's getting old, but I'd take the worst Simpsons over the best Family Guy any day.   :P

Monday:
Las Vegas - I love this show.  Great stories and great ladies.  Plus, James Caan is cool.

Tuesday:
nothing.  My wife watches some Navy CSI and doctor show on FOX if we're home, but I mainly just stick to my hobbies on Tuesday (customizing, carpentry, etc).

Wednesday:
Lost - FANTASTIC.  I thank baby Jesus every night for a new, original, NON-crime solving TV show.  Not every mystery on TV needs to revolve around solving a damn crime, ya know!  Enough with the crime shows!

Alias - Best idea ABC every had to put these two shows back to back.  I love it.  Again, I am NOT a fan of the 386 crime-solving dramas on TV and am happy for any show that surfaces that does not solve any crimes.

Thursday:
nothing.  I used to love ER, but ever since Dr. Green died it turned into one big soap opera that just got stupider and stupider.  Smallpox?  Helicopter crash?  A friggin' TANK?  Lame.  I don't watch anymore because it is FAR too gimmicky for my tastes now...

Friday:
nothing.  Usually the "date night" for my wife and I.  We try to go out to dinner/shopping/movies/etc.  Try to get out of the house for a night, so out with friends/family/etc.

Saturday:
nothing.  Usually busy doing stuff with friends or catching up on shows I missed during the week thanks to my low-tech VCR (with it's squeaky wheels and everything).

That's about it, not counting sports/news.  I end up watching a lot of those too...

Celebration III: Indianapolis / Re: Star Wars Celebration 3
« on: January 19, 2005, 04:55 PM »
Just 3 months / 13 weeks to go!

I evaluated my trip budget and I went through my piggy bank, and everything looks good.  At this point, I'm 100% sure that I've got the cash to be able to go to Celebration 3.  :)

Now that the logistics of "CAN I GO?" is settled, it's time to start figuring out the "what will I do once I get there" portion!

I'm looking forward to meeting up with some of you long-time trading partners and on-line SW pals to put faces to the names (or screen name in the case of you private folks)!

Also, the collector panels look pretty good so far.  I'm always interested in those behind-the-scenes, toys that could have been type talks.  Also looking forward to some of the other multi-media type presentations.
