I too was on the fence regarding these figures, I definitely was going to get them, but I wasn't keen on the idea. When I got the two sets of them today, I decided that I really do like them. I kinda wish now they had used the ROTS Vader as the Lava Reflection Vader exclusive and packaged him with a Mustfar base as well so you could have all three "lava Reflection" figures displayed the same.

The paint-op on the Obi-Wan really pulls out the detail of the sculpt well - you can see the dispair on his face.

Picked up two of the Clone Attack on Coruscant and 2 sets of the Lava Duel figures today.

Had quite an adventure trying to get them. All of the exclusives seem to be in, but many stores are holding them for the holiday aisle resets. Which is lame.

If you can get a manager to tell you that they are being held for the 16th, get his/her name and tell him/her you'll be back on the 16th to get one of each item and you'll be asking specifically for him/her for assistance. If the manager replies "we don't hold items..." cut them off and say "but you're holding items you have in stock now."  ;D

Customizing Tips and Tricks / Re: Help with Paints

Yeah - I picked up a couple of these vehicles on the cheap from a KB ToyWorks. I've had my eye on them for a while and I figured "what the heck, give it a try"

My ultimate goal is to make a "New Empire" version of the ARC-170. Since the Empire wouldn't immediately transition to TIE type fighters, my EU idea is that the ARC-170s would start to sport the same gun-metal blue colors that the TIE comes in.

Basically, I want a version of the ARC-170 for my Black Clone pilots and R2-Q5 to fly!  ;D

The great thing about the GI Joe vehicles is that they are put together w/screws so I can easily take the them completely apart, give each section their own individual paint applications.

Where is a good place to buy Tamaya Acryllic spray paints? Model/hobby shops or can you get something like that at Home Depot/Lowes?

Customizing Tips and Tricks / Help with Paints

Ok - the lack of vehicles has me a bit frustrated, especially for dioramas.

What I have decided to do is pick up some of the mini-rig type GI-Joe vehicles and give them different paint-ops.

My first one is going to be this vehicle:

The great thing about the newer figures is that they have enough articulation to even sit at the controls perfectly. I bought this toy yesterday and was pleased to see that the ROTS Black Clone Pilot, SA Clone and #6 Clone all fit in this vehicle AND hold the two control sticks perfectly.

So what I was thinking was to get rid of the dark gray and replace it with a dark-blue and then add decals for the Republic or Empire.

The next project I want to do is to take this one:

and make a Clone mini-fighter

and then after that, I want to take this one:

and make a Wookie ground vehicle out of it.

So basically, here's my question - what types of acryllic paints should I use? Does anyone find that one brand works better than another? Should I give the vehicle a clear-coat when I'm done? I've seen some custom stuff before and the paint always ends up being sticky after a while, is there anything I can do to prevent that?

Any and all help/suggestions/ideas would be great.

Thanks.

From Friday through Sunday I picked up the following:

1x KB 9-Pack w/Silver Vader (*bleck*)
2x Rebels vs. Empire Battle Packs
1x Jedi vs. Separatists Battle Pack
3x Commander Gree
3x Commander Bly
3x General Grievous Bodyguard (white)
3x Wookie Commando
3x Nemoidian Commander
2x Passel Argente
2x Cat Miin

I think that's everything.

I'm starting to think that report on GH may have been bogus as well - 2 per case seems to be the best ratio that's going to be available.

Based on that HORRIBLE rev 2 case pack, I'm hoping the majority of the cases shipped to the stores is the original Col. 2, Wave 6 ratio where you get 1 each of the holo figures and wookie and then 2 each of 501st trooper and the r4 unit. The other figures are completely un-necessary (except for perhaps Meena Tills), the rest have been easy to come by. If I had the choice on how to pack this case it would have been:

2x Aalya Secura (holo)
2x Plo Koon (holo)
2x Wookie Heave Gunner
3x Tactical Ops Trooper
3x R4-P17

Of course that would make sense, which is why it wasn't done.  :P

The only good thing I see coming out of this line is a fighting weapon.  You know instead of using a roll of quarters.....8)

So chalk you up for one Titanium Fett and one used men's athletic sock? Once you got both you're in the mood for busting heads? Hehe

Well - the Holiday Themed figures have officially jumped the shark.

With all of the other choices (Padme as an X-Mas tree being a great one) it seems to me that this one really takes the cake as a half-a$sed effort.

The original X-Mas card artwork is great, and if the figure had recreated that (i.e. Vader in his regular black "making" a Stormtrooper Snowman) then this would have been one of the better sets.

The figure does not match the card art! So what's the point? I thought the entire point of this series was that we were getting action figures based on the Lucasfilm X-Mas cards. No where on that card do I see (a) a RED Vader; (b) Black star-scape; (c) A Star Destroyer Bridge; and  (d) a wreath. Yet the combination of figure, base and packaging feature ALL of these things.

I'm sorry there is nothing that could have stopped them from packaging Vader with a Stormtrooper snow-man just like this:

There just ISN'T. If you look at the packaging with Yoda and then the Jawas, it's identical just different artwork - so why couldn't this one have been in the C-3PO/R2 Packaging with the background from the original card? I can answer that myself really - LAZINESS or how about CHEAPNESS. I would have gladly paid another $10-$15 to get a two pack of "action" figures that imitated the original card. Also, I really don't want ONE of the holiday sets to be carded while the others are all in the snow-globe like packaging. They don't even have a sense of consistency for crying out loud!

*grrrrr*

my two came in the mail this past Saturday courtesy of Matt (JediMAC) - I wasn't sure how I'd feel about this little oddity, but now that I have my opener on my desk, I'm really pretty keen on it. They did a good job with the Jedi Mickey

Hmmm I wonder then.. just how popular this set would "become" if those single carded figures are using the tank gunners body...(since no one can completely verify this yet) ::)

Yeah - I think the popularity of this set is going to shoot through the roof if it does indeed turn out that the 501st individually carded figure ends up being the same body as the AT-TE Gunner. The arms on that sculpt are just SO screwed up, you have to even wonder what they were thinking when they made that sculpt in the first place.

For poseability and play value, the #6 clone has the AT-TE gunner beat.

Here's hoping that the 501st figure uses the SA body.

Like I said earlier in the thread. By me in NJ these have NOT been hard to get at all. My local KMart got in another shipment of these the other day. I saw them, only had cash on me, but not enough so I returned the next day and they were still there, so I grabbed one of the Jedi Temple Assault and one of the Imperial Throne room for a fellow NJ collector to help her out.

Other than that, since I've had my for a couple of weeks now, I really haven't been looking "hard" so when I can randomly walk into a KMart, and they have it in stock, I don't consider it a "hard to find" item.

So I guess that's good - KMart must have ordered over the minimum required quantity on these. I figured that the three blue clones would be a no-brainer and fly off the shelves.

Two plain white clones and only one pilot? That seems rather odd to me.

What astromech is that? the ROTS preview one?

If the figures are 100% repacks as opposed to being some new variation (i.e. the Target SA Clone w/o any emblems) then I'm only going to get one of these for the packaging variation.

The Sams Club by me charges a bit extra to go buy something if you're not a member. I think it's like 10% more or something. Being that I only shop that Sams Club when they have exclusives like this, I'm willing to take the 10% hit.

Well - I got the box from Matt and he really went all out - included a bunch of goodies from Comic Con, scored me my holo leia opener and the six Star Tours figures all arrived in excellent shape.

He also got me the Jedi Mickey & Yoda set (x2) which is really nice.

You definitely can't go wrong if you either buy or trade with Matt!

Just got a PM from Matt with a huge list of Star Tours goodies he's hooking me up with. Matt really went above and beyond on this one - he had a hard time getting one of the three Wave 4 Star Tours figures MOMC so he's sending me his with the intention of getting a replacement later-on down the line.

I'm just stunned.

So super Kudos from me to Matt on this one, I don't know how I'm ever going to be able to return the favor.
