Revenge of the Sith / Re: Obi-Wan's Blue Jedi Starfighter
« on: August 31, 2005, 06:55 AM »
Ok - well I had taken the time to post a complaint to the Hasbro website. I first got an e-mail telling me that they would be happy to send the corrected label sheet. Then yesterday in the mail I received a letter stating that the part I was looking for was unavailable and I would not be receiving a new label sheet afterall.

So basically Hasbro purposefully put the WRONG label sheet with these fighters and has NO INTENTION of providing correct ones.

Nice.

Revenge of the Sith / Re: NEW TIE Fighter
« on: August 31, 2005, 06:54 AM »
Ok - so last night I finally got a really good look at this thing and all I can say is, it sucks.

The new panels, to me at least, aren't worth this thing being 2x the price of a OTC TIE Fighter that was released a year ago. It's not like they're more detailed or have a great paint op.

And what gives with the pilot figure? A POTF2 TIE Pilot?!?! And of course the back of the box shows the better articulated one that came out in Saga, OTC and with the TIE Inteceptor and KB TIE Fighter exclusives.

So in my opinion, if the TIE Fighter wings meant a $20 increase in price for what Hasbro had to charge for this item, then they never should have done it in the first place and made Target pick a different vehicle if they wanted an OT Vehicle exclusive - like the cloud car.

By giving the employees at the customer service desk the DPCI number that was how I was able to score my two TIEs this morning.

Took a while to get 'em brought out, but it was worth the 15 minute wait in the end.

Yeah - I'm in for three of these for sure, one to keep MIB and the other two to open. Instead of going great guns on any one type of clone, I'm basically building little mini-armies of each type while only getting one or two of each Commander.

So it will be nice to have a squad of 8 gray clones and two Blue Bacarras to go with the two Maroon Bacarras I already have.

Now what we need is for them to repaint the Saga Snowtrooper to match the rest of Bacarra's troops on Mygeeto and throw four of those into a Battle Pack with a Ki-adi Mundi and call it "Ambush at Mygeeto", then they could do the same for Bly's grunts and include them in a pack with Aayla Secura and call it "Ambush at Feluccia" - those would be Battle Packs worth getting.

Revenge of the Sith / Re: Toy Runs affected by Gas Prices?
« on: August 29, 2005, 10:19 PM »
It wasn't something I really used to consider, but nowadays, it's becoming more of a thought in my mind.  Why should I bother wasting gas/time to find figures for $6.50 (with tax) at Target, when I can order a case of 12 for $7.50 each (with shipping) from EE.

Sure, it's $12 over retail, but that's only like 4-5 gallons of gas or about 80-100 miles of toy shopping (which is probably about my average in a week).

The only wrinkle to on-line ordering though is you still have to go to the stores to hunt the damn exclusives (exclusives = the bitching target of the day I guess  ;)).

You know - for a majority of the Saga line, I got my stuff directly from EE. It worked out well enough, especially in non-movie years when the stuff wasn't hitting the pegs as much as it should.

I will probably be going back to EE for my figures when the Saga 2 line comes out.

The one thing that stopped me from buying from EE was the fact that I knew in a movie year (and with the OTC) that the product would be readily available PLUS I would be regularly hitting stores looking for the vehicles and exclusives. (I never buy the vehicles from EE, the mark-up on those is just too much)

With the high number of exclusives in the last five months, I'm mostly hitting stores with the goal of finding exclusives and picking up the mass-market/open-stock items along the way.

Like right now the only open-stock item I need is the Jedi vs. Separatists Battle Pack - everything else I need is an exclusive - Wave 3 Target Cups, Target TIE Fighter, Hoth Assault Battle Pack, and TRU Millenium Falcon.

And again, even in the fall, the number of exclusives will greatly out-weigh the open-stock items:
Open-stock:
Figures #57-68
Rebels vs. Empire Battle Pack
Gray Repaint of Clones Evo set

Exclusive:
Target Night-ops Clone
Target Lava Reflection Anakin & Obi-Wan
Target Plo Koon Jedi Starfighter
Target Clones on Coruscant Battle Pack
SWS Remote Control R2-D2
SWS Wedge Antilles
SWS Stealth Ops Clonetrooper
TRU Holo Emperor
EE Astromech pack 1 & 2
Diamond Bounty Hunter 7 pack
KB-Toys Silver Vader 9 pack
anything else?

(I've already ordered the online shope stuff, but it will actually ship in the months of September - December)

So my point is that in the end, when all is send and done, between now and Saga 2, most of my SW money will be spent on exclusives which is just insane. Eventually I will reach a breaking point and at that point, I don't know what I will do cause for me collecting SW goes hand-in-hand with having a complete 3.75" collection. In my f**ked up mind, you can' t have one w/o the other.

Emperor - doesn't include the small lightning snap on accessories that came with the original figure

Let me just correct myself here, I have no idea what I was thinking here. The Emperor figure is the same figure as ROTS #11 - the same one you can find everywhere now as an individually carded figure. So the only accessory you loose out on with this figure is the lightsaber, which kinda sucks, I would have loved to score an extra one of those.

For some reason I was thinking those mini lightning things that came with the Saga Emperor came with this figure as well. Duh to me.

Well - I'm a retard, but I ordered my two just simply 'cause that's what I do.

I think it's time for me to leave work and slam my head against the wall for an hour or so.

Hey Hasbro! / Re: Enough With The Exclusives Already...
« on: August 29, 2005, 07:40 PM »
What I don't understand on this one is the price point. Stick the f**king figure on a regular ROTS card and ship it that way. Don't give me that stupid *ss "Comemorative of the DVD release packaging" crap - I though the ENTIRE ROTS line was comemorative of the MOVIE - PERIOD.

So that's the latest reason for them to up the price on a $6 figure. Pack it with a collector case and make a one-off package for the item.

F**K that sh*t. Just F**K it.

And even though I'm going to pay $14 per figure before shipping, I'm still probably NEVER going to get a MOMC one 'cause SWS employees play football with all figures before shipping them. And then cram the items into a box that is slightly too small to fit the items. It's policy afterall.

Time for someone to go knock-out George Lucas, put him into a drug-induced coma and let someone else make Episodes 7-9 so the bloodsucker merchandisers can have three more movies to look forward to instead of driving the ROTS line to the lowest level of Hell. At least then perhaps we'll stop getting candy-colored clones.

Revenge of the Sith / Re: Battle Packs (5 figure sets)
« on: August 29, 2005, 11:48 AM »
Let me just second that. The only difference for ANY of the re-released figures in both of these packs is the LACK of accessories.

Emperor - doesn't include the small lightning snap on accessories that came with the original figure

Stormtrooper - includes the smaller blaster accessory and doesn't also come with the gun-rack and pistol that the figure has been carded with so many times over.

Anakin/Vader - like DP said, doesn't include the spare hand, lightsaber hilt or a second sith lightsaber (either Vader's in an Anakin hand or Count Dooku's) like both variations of the original figure did.

Clone Pilot - again, like DP said, no radar-dish cannon, which to me is no loss since that accessory stinks and since I have seven open Gray/White Pilots and four open Black Jumpsuit Pilots, the last thing I needed was another one of those!

So unless you're a retard like me that has to get 2 of EVERYTHING no matter what, you can definitely pass on a getting a second Imperial Throne Room set - which is what A LOT of people will do, which is why KMart will have a GLUT of the Imperial set and not be able to keep the Jedi Temple Assault set on the shelves.

Revenge of the Sith / Re: Toy Runs affected by Gas Prices?

My gas consumption is definitely hurting my toy runs.

Before I would try to hit at least three Targets, four WalMarts and two Toys R Us stores at least 1 - 3 times a week.

Now I've boiled my hunting down only to stores that are slightly off the beaten path of where I NEED to go. So the only TRU I go to is the one right around the corner from my job. I also hit a WalMart and Target that is right off the highway on my way to work. So basically it's M-F morning and/or night when hitting these three stores.

The only stores I will go out specifically to go on a toy run to are the KMart and WalMart that are right around the corner from my house - less than 5 minutes away. Thankfully the news just came out that we are getting a Target within a year so I could probably reduce my toy shopping to those three local stores every night before they close and only hitting TRU during my lunchbreak at work.

Pete, any indication on quantity of pieces? 2345 of 25,000 listed on the case for example?

Good question indeed. I'm sorry I didn't take note of it. I tried to take the box with me, but they wouldn't let me take it (odd) so I can't even see if there is anything on the box tonight when I go home.

Sorry.

Revenge of the Sith / Re: Jedi Temple Assault Battle Pack
« on: August 29, 2005, 11:33 AM »
I was a bit surprised (as I think I said in the Recent Purchases thread) that the Jedi Temple Assault set was packaged equally with the Imperial Throne Room set.

I kinda wish they had just shipped straight packs of all six Jedi Temple Assault and then shipping the Imperial set next month - I hate when Hasbro does stuff like this - don't they realize that they are shooting the concept of these in the foot right off the bat? KMart is going to sell out fast of the Jedi Temple sets and be left holding the bag on A LOT of Imperial sets.

Stupid planning on both KMart AND Hasbro's part.

If they were going to evenly pack these - then they should have made two Battle Packs that were both Clone-themed. The second one could have Utapau and they could have put in: Obi-Wan, 3 #6 Clones painted as Cmdr. Cody grunts and Tion Meddon. That would have been a MUCH BETTER pack IMHO.

Yeah - the Jedi Temple Assault is a for the most part, a great set. The only thing that kills it is the Clone Pilot. My son looked at it last night and was like: "When was a Clone Pilot raiding the Jedi Temple?" - and I didn't know what to say to him other than: "Well Hasbro thinks there was, I don't know what to tell you."

I really wish they had just included a fourth 501st trooper.

Same thing goes with the Imperial Throne Room set. The Stormtrooper is an odd choice. Instead of having one dignitary in the box and another in the picture on the back - just include BOTH of them and forget the Stormtrooper.

I also would have re-organized the Jedi vs. XXXX sets like this:

Jedi vs. Sith:
Anakin from Yavin 4
Asajj Ventress (she wasn't full sith but close enough)
Qui-Gon Jinn
Obi-Wan Kenobi (TPM)
Darth Maul

Jedi vs. Seperatists:
Obi-Wan Kenobi (Snap-on Clone Armor)
Durge
Mace Windu
Ki-Adi Mundi (or Shaak Ti)
General Grievous

But that's just me.

Well - impulsively I hit the local KMart at 9:45 PM tonight before it closed.

When I got there I found that they had the freight pallets waiting for the overnight crew to stock the toy section.

On the last pallet I checked was a case of the KMart exclusive Jedi Temple Assault and Imperial Throne Room Battle Packs.

The Jedi Temple assault set is nice. I would have preferred they pack in a #28 Anakin w/Sith Eyes then the #1? Anakin figure. And of course as we've all discussed already, a Gray/White Pilot? Just like with the Shocktrooper repaint of #6, I don't mind these 501st/Special Ops blue troopers being based on the #6 body either. I'm glad they packed in the extra rifles.

The Imperial Throne Room set makes for a nice packaging piece, not much else. These will be sitting at most stores I would think. I would have preferred they included both Dignitaries instead of only one and then a Stormtrooper. Last I checked, a Stormtrooper never entered the Palpatine's throne room on the Death Star II.

In my area they rang up for $27 each. (ouch) and came in a case of 6 sets (3 of each variety). I wouldn't have packed them equally like that. There are bound to be lots of collectors (like myself) who want to grab more than just one or two to build squads of the 501st. I grabbed all three from this case so I could open up two and have six of them to "march" behind Anakin.

So it's 3 Battle Packs down, 4(?) Battle Packs to go.... (Jedi vs. Separatists, Rebels vs. Empire, Hoth Assault & Coruscant Clones - am I forgetting any?)

*sigh*

You're right Matt. The clone set does contain different figures than anything else we've seen so far.

Well crap.

I guess I am going to need to get two of at least the clone set.

Well - if it's any consolation, at our local WalMart stores the day the DVDs have come out, the past two sets were VERY easy to get.

The Clone Set was easier since there were only two, but with OT DVD set was odd 'cause some stores only received two different ones so it meant having to go to two stores to get all three.

Here's hoping the distribution is balanced and if you hit a WalMart at 7AM on November 1st there is a good number of all three (although, if they go heavy on the Clones, that would be smart)
