Revenge of the Sith / Re: Question...

Kenner = Hasbro

Sorry to disappoint you.

Kenner was bought by Hasbro in the 90s, so was Galoob. Originally Hasbro kept the company names/brands going, but eventually phased them out in favor of having one single company brand - Hasbro.

Does anyone else question whether Hasbro really needs to have the Unleashed at $15 anyway?  Aren't they fairly identical in scale, articulation and size to McFarlane figures?  Doesn't matter whether you're talking Twisted Oz, Sportspicks or Elvis, the McFarlane stuff is equivalent at 2/3 the price.  I would have thought that the UL stuff would have had that tidy additional $5 margin.

They are pretty close. I have in my office at work both my Star Wars Unleashed and my McFarlane Matrix open collections.

From the untrained/non-sci-fi-geeks I get a lot of "are these all from the same movie?"

More recently though, I get a lot of the Dads coming in asking "Where do you get those cool Star Wars statues? My son is really into Star Wars and I'd love to get him some." My patented answer is to go over to the TRU right near by and purchase the Anakin and Obi-Wan pair from ROTS  ;D -- gotta get 'em sold to make room for the Shocktrooper/Chewie/Han wave somehow!

What sucks more than anything else about this is that Hasbro now will be gun-shy about bringing new product to future shows for this very reason. We won't see stuff until it's just about to be released - I always look forward to seeing the reports back from these types of events 'cause I know Hasbro is going to show something that I hadn't seen before.

Picked up the Anakin to Vader Evolutions set on Saturday at KMart and I picked up the Jedi vs. Sith Battlepack at the same K-Mart this morning. Had to return the opener Battlepack 'cause Ventress' arm came right off in my hand. Way to go with the cheap plastic Hasbro!

Perhaps the FFs were shot inside Grevous' ship shooting foam at the heroes as the came out, shouting "Stop, Drop, and Roll!" I mean, it would be the 2nd publc service message of the PT with Obi's "Go home and rethink your life, druggie!"

Perhaps hilarity was to ensue as Palpatine slipped and slided his way out of the smoldering wreckage of Grievous' ship. R2 would fall from "the sky" as he ejected himself out of a port-hole and then proceeded to spew fire-retardant foam in a scene that pays hommage to the swamp monster scene on Dagobah from ESB. The water and foam would cause Anakin's arm to start sparking, he would say "I have a bad feeling about this" and then the water/foam mixture would act as a natural conductor and Anakin's robot arm would keep shocking Obi-Wan to which Obi-Wan replies "Anakin, turn off your arm or you're going to be the death of me!"

It's all right there in the first draft of the script.   ::)

Then someone with a sense for how to tell a good story helped GL re-write it.  ;D

Revenge of the Sith / Re: Battle Packs (5 figure sets)

Well - no questions asked they took the item back since it was clearly broken. The guy let me go check to see if they had any more in stock in the Toy Section and when I came back empty handed he just gave me the $25 and I was on my way.

I opened up the second one when I got back from lunch and this one is fine. So now all I need is a MIB one.

I really like the Ventress, Anakin and Obi-Wan figures in this pack! Definitely worth getting the set for.

Yoda and Grievous are just the same figures over again.

The name for this set is odd - Grievous and Ventress aren't really Sith - Ventress is more like a Dark Jedi and Grievous is a droid who has been trained in the use of a lightsaber by a Sith Lord. Hardly makes him "sith".

This set should have been called "Jedi vs. Seperatists" and then the next set should have included Dooku instead of Jango and that could have been called "Jedi vs. Sith" - it would have made A LOT more sense.

It's too bad the OT Battle Packs are turning out to look like such turds. The Rebels vs. Empire and Hoth Assault sets are both pretty weak. At least for the Hoth set if they had given us three Saga SnowTroopers it would have been better.

The Jedi Temple Assault Set looks to be the only other set worth having. Wish they had a fourth 501st. Did anyone hear anything more about the "Hunt for Yoda" set - I thought we'd see that one - three Clone #6 repainted to be ShockTroopers, Emperor and Yoda all on a Senate Chamber backdrop - that would be a nice set.

So, correct me if I'm wrong, here are all of the Battle Packs so far:

General Release:
Jedi vs. Sith (out now)
Jedi vs. Seperatists
Rebels vs. Empire

Exclusives
Jedi Temple Assault (KMart)
Hoth Assault (TRU)
Clone Attack on Coruscant (Target)

????
Emperor's Throne Room
Hunt for Yoda

Did I forget any?

Anyone heard any more information about when the "extras" might be available on StarwarsShop.com?

Well - I picked up two Jedi vs. Sith Battle Packs this morning at KMart - opened one up gleefully at work just a few minutes ago and the Ventress left arm broke off in my hand when I tried to rotate the elbow joint.

I'm off to go return it to the KMart nearest to where I work. I'm hoping that they'll let me either exchange it or get my money back. I'm not choking on the $25 price tag again just to re-buy ONE figure.  >:(

This is why openers HATE multi figure packs.

I look at all these repaints and I'm reminded of all the ******** repaints in the GI Joe line. I think a guy named Daryl DePriest used to run that line, now he heads up Star Wars. I seriously wonder if he's the goon responsible for the repaint idea (which SW did fine without for 10 years).

As I mentioned in some other threads, yes, this DePriest guy used to run the GI Joe line and was responsible for the concept of the small Joes two-packs where 90% of the time one of the two figures was merely a repaint.

So personally, I'm not surprised at all that the rest of the ROTS line will be repaints. I'm holding out hope that the TSC/SAGA2 line will have a mix of new and re-painted sculpts and lean heavily towards new sculpts. We'll have to wait and see what's presented at today's panel discussion.

Yeah - the idea of having multiple action figure lines at the same price point is something Hasbro wants to avoid.

I think that once we're done with the ROTS Deluxe Figures, the Force Battlers (at least for a time) will be the defacto $9.99 price point item. With the new Forged figures being the $15.99 price point item.

They probably were told by the retail chains that they would support only one line at the $15.99 price point and since the 3.75" moves well, they probably figure that will help move this line moreso than the 7" Unleashed figures.

They are probably mostly right too - many collectors stick to the mantra "3.75 inch figures only" and while these "forged" figures aren't made of plastic they still fall under that magic scale. I know that personally, like the 3.75" lemming that I am, while I don't collect the rest of the Titanium line, I will be collecting these Titanium Forged figures as long as they are released in the 3.75" scale. If they dropped the scale down to 2", I'd pass, if they raised the scale to 7" (and of course raise the price point), I'd pass. So some decisions that have been made with the line do have logical reasoning behind them, however, why the line was developed in the first place is what bothers me.

Yeah - that's what I thought it said too - but I wasn't sure.

Interesting thing is that all of my local KMarts have MADE shelf space for the Evolutions and Battlepack sets even though there's no product to fill them. So they are obviously behind the product line.

3252
To be honest, I can't see Sideshow starting out of the gate with a Tatooine Luke.

While there may be a Darth Vader, Stormtrooper and either a Boba or Jango Fett - just coming out with nice versions of 12" ROTS Anakin and Obi-Wan would be welcome IMHO.

Revenge of the Sith / Re: Figure Fun Facts!
« on: July 14, 2005, 01:00 PM »
Here's a fun fact:

Following the upcoming release of the final figure from the ROTS line (#56), Hasbro's 4" Star Wars figure line will consist 100% of nothing be rehashes.  That's 0% all-new product for the mathematically challenged out there...

Here's another fun fact:  Hasbro sucks.

Here's another fun fact: Matt will be ripping an unsuspecting Hasbro rep a new one during the panel discussion in about 24 hours!

Here are some more "fun" facts:

1) Hasbro has cancelled the Unleashed line!
2) Hasbro has cancelled the Force Battler line! (getting a jump on having to make another post in October)
3) Hasbro has decided not to move forward with the "Titanium Forged" Figure/Statue line due to no retailer interest (another fact for the future, let's say Feb 2006 when this line doesn't even exist by the time Toy Fair rolls around)

 ;D

Good eye there! The Chewie in the OT set is indeed the ROTS version of the Character.

Also - I was looking at the pics over on Rebelscum and it appears that the Jedi Temple Raid pack is an exclusive but I can't tell to whom. The last line of the card reads "Avail: NOW  Exclusive: ????" and I can't read what retailer is listed after "Exclusive:"
