Radcliff has already broke out in a way with doing Equis on broadway.  Quite a different role for him.  Ruppert has done a few movies...I think they were all smaller films.  I think we will have to wait and see what the trio does after the last film has been released.  Regardless, they are all set for life.  With all the rumors that one or more were thinking of quitting, I bet they are happy they stuck with it at this point.  I am even more impressed with the fact that so few actors were changed throughout the films.  Dumbledore is the biggest one, but that couldn't have been helped.  The only casting change I can think of in this movie was Hermoine's parents who had a brief appearance in Chamber of Secrets.

You will certainly get your dose of Hogwarts in the next film.  I reread all the books through Oct. and Nov. leading up to the movie release.  Considering where they split the movies I would think the next movie would start a Shell Cottage, move to Gringotts and then progress in short order to Hogsmede and Hogwarts.

As for the books vs. movie, I think you will find that the movies diverged more as the books got longer up until this point.  A major thing is that Ron gets short shrift in the movies.  Most of his insights and knowledge in the books gets pushed on Hermoine in the movies since she is the "smart one".

Since it seems that Hollywood can only remake movies these days, I envisioned what it would take to truely recreate these books as movies as I reread them.  There are places for cuts and condensation, but I think that you would either have to do two movies for most (from either book 3 or 4 on) or do Lord of the Rings directors cuts style running time for most.  At the least, I think Books 5 and 7 would require two movies each.

I think the excuse for HPB is that there was going to be a huge battle in the last movie, so they didn't want to do it twice.  A major plot hole for the current movie is the mirror given to Harry in OoTP from Sirius.  It was completely left out of the fifth movie, but is used in this one.  It seems they have tried to use explanations in the past for stuff like this, but not this time.

As for the closeness of the books to the movies, I would say the first is probably the closest.  The only major changes that I can think of off hand is the omission of the Charlie's friends coming to pick up Norbert, the change in who was in detention in the Forest w/ Hagrid, and the omission of the potion challenge at the end.  Otherwise it followed the book pretty closely.

If you hadn't noticed that Bill hadn't been in the previous films then I take it you haven't seen any of them?  I think he was mentioned, as was Charlie, but we didn't actually seel Bill till this film and I don't think Charlie is ever going to be in the films.

   E...

If we're lucky, we would see Charlie at the Battle of Hogwarts, but I'm not holding my breath.

Remember when watching a movie just meant putting it in your player and pressing play?

I hate this update firmwware rubbish, but as i'm using my ps3 its not such a hassle to do

That's exactly what I was thinking.  All our "regular" DVDs play just fine, but to watch our blu rays we're apparently going to have to try this as well.  All the advances in technology, yet it was easier to watch a movie from start to finish on my parents' VCR as a kid :).  This is probably a super stupid question, but how does one go about updating the firmware?  I found the file I need on the company website, but do you need your BD player hooked up to the web to do it?  Do you download the file to a disk, or am I just way off on how to do this.  I used to consider myself somewhat tech "savvy", but I just don't keep up as well anymore.

After reading the last several posts on this issue, I decided I should probably check my Bluray player.   I have a Pioneer Elite and they gave me a whole list of button mashing to do on my remote to check my firmware version.  To make the actual update, they said to download the files to a computer and then burn them to a CD to put in the player.  Not sure if this is the same for all players or not.  I think I have an ethernet port on my player, but I would have the slightest clue on how to update that way.  Burning a CD looks to be the easy way for me.

I have never been a McNabb fan, but "Grossman knows the 2 minute offense better" is one of the weirdest decisions/excuses I've ever heard especially from a Super Bowl Champion coach.

Especially since he completely boned it on the very first play he was in the game.  McNabb had been throwing some weak passes, and did lose the game with the pick he shouldn't have thrown.  The announcers were speculating that McNabb was injured because they couldn't think of any reason to bench him.  With all the close games Detroit has had this year, I figured the Skins would be the ones to finally choke against them.

No way does Zelda not make anyone's list

Definitely better than Dragon Warrior...the later Dragon Warrior games were certainly better than the first one.

I agree...this isn't a simple VHS vs. Betamax or the evolution from Record to cassette to CD.  While MP3's have been quite popular, if I want to purchase an actual album, I rather have something physical rather than just digital.  MP3's are great if you just want a couple songs from an album.

Dial up internet hasn't completely disappeared at this point, so I don't see BluRay going away in favor of direct downloads.  With all the talk of possibly taxing the internet or restricting usage based on amount downloaded, streaming video could die off first.  A lot of "high speed" internet doesn't even run that fast for downloading a movie.  I would much prefer using an On-Demand service than streaming video.

Not sure if killing the iPod classic was a good idea...not everyone has an iPhone and not everyone wants an iPad.  My 8 GB nano has reached full capacity so I may have to check out the new nanos.  Not sure if I like the idea of a touch screen version or not.  I am hoping the power adapter connector is the same size so I won't have to buy a new car stereo interface.

I just like how the guy on the left is staring right at you while the other two are looking at a different camera.  It seems it is more about the guy in the tight shirt than Yoda....err, I mean PW.

SPOILERS for those who don't want to know, but apparently the most recent issue of Entertainment Weekly reveals the "split point" for the Deathly Hallows movies.  You can read the excerpt HERE, if you'd like to know.

Without giving away what the article says - I have to agree that it is a lot later into the book than I expected too.

I have been rereading the books in a run up to the movie.  I honestly don't remember how far along in the book this point was.  Interesting place though with how far along the article says it is.  Once I get to the book, I guess I can get a better idea of the content of movie 2.

Did you ever buy one Rob?  Our trusy old DVD player (circa 1999) is getting finicky so it's time for a new player and it may as well be BluRay.  I was hoping to get a Pioneer as I've had tremendous success with them over the years but it seems newer models are just rebadged models from others and maybe not so good, aside from start up speed.

Looking for suggestions that don't include PS3.

I purchased a Pioneer Elite back around last Christmas.  I would say there is somewhere in the neighborhood of a 15 to 30 second load time, but I've never clocked it.  I'm not sure how that would compare to other units.  The picture and sound are great and I've had no complaints with it except somehow you can turn off the continue feature (from where you stopped a disc).  Not sure how I've done that on some discs, so it is a bit of a pain.  I have to pull up the manual to see what I need to do to fix it.

Yeah, as far as the JLA goes, if they can't use all the "big guns" in one movie - I don't know if I'd be interested either.  I want the "Big 3" of Bats, Supes, and WW - as well as the Flash, Green Lantern, and hopefully characters like Aquaman and Martian Manhunter.  The "Big 7" if you will....I agree though, if there is a Batman included, it will likely be a new one.  From the sounds of things, Nolan (and likely Bale) will be done with the character once their trilogy is complete (in 2012), and then we'll probably see a reboot.

I want to see the made up for the old cartoon characters like Apache Chief and Black Vulcan.
