Kubricks / Re: Custom Star Wars Kubricks

Thanks space monkey, much appreciated!! These hearken back to a time when I had too much free time, haha. And also to a time when I was bursting with anticipation for episodes 8 and 9. (Was very let down by them, though I still love Force Awakens a lot.)

I remember Kylo and Finn's likenesses were the one that were the trickiest to me. The style of the illustrations Medicom made for the Kubrick line, like the card art for the carded figs, the DX cardboard dioramas, etc was really inspiring to me, and I think I grew as an artist a bit from trying to emulate it. Still waiting for Medicom to see these and hire me for the next series, hehe. ;D

I got it on ebay. The one I got was priced a little lower than the rest because the plastic of the card had some scuffs, which was perfect because I like to open them anyway. It was about $72 with tax + shipping. Still too much $ for another Vader with small variations, but hey, for old time's sake.

I think my favorite Vader is the DX4 vinyl cape one. I was a big fan of all the throwback vinyl cape kubricks, plus it's nice that the helmet on it is solid and doesn't fall apart if you breathe on it, haha. I love the original Vader too.

And yep, the saber is solid red. The silver Vader's saber is solid too actually, but darker and with a metallic finish.

So cool to see a new Kubrick after all these years. I picked this up after seeing your post. Wouldn't have known about it otherwise, so thanks!

I hate to make another post not about actual kubricks, but I noticed that all my old illustrations I posted are gone again. (Tinypic shut down.) Figured I'd post them all one more time, along with a newer one I never shared before (Luke's Island). Hope you guys enjoy!

Thanks guys! I had so much fun making these. Maybe I'll do a new wave when Episode 9 comes out. (Lando for sure!)  ;D

Also I noticed that the old pics I posted of my Echo Base backdrop have broken links now, so figured I'd repost it here. Along with a rough draft of another backdrop that I never got around to finishing, hehe.

Hey guys. I painted these designs for Force Awakens kubricks awhile back. For some reason I never got around to posting them here, so I figured I would now. Hope you enjoy!

In a wave a kubrick nostalgia, I was thinking about the characters who were never made that I would've most liked to see. Decided to create my own (digital) custom for probably my most wanted kub: Vlix! I recall he was heavily requested here on JD back in the day...hopefully you guys dig it.  :)

In most of those photos the glasses look dark tinted, which match with mine. I'm just gonna choose to believe that there was some variation in the paint apps on the goggles, ie some got more or less black applied to the glass part.  :)

Went back and took a closer look at mine. The goggles are dark tinted, but you can still see through them to the helmet. Not totally opaque.

All this stuff is from a big trash bin from the Chinese factory. Thousands of them on ebay....

Please elaborate on this. I'd be curious to hear any info about this thing really being from a Medicom factory.

Hey everyone. Haven't posted in a while, but I've been checking in and keeping tabs on Medicom's latest offerings. Pretty disappointing stuff, although if you're a carded collector I guess they're not too shabby. Hopefully they're just trying to keep the ball rolling until they're able to do a new wave of kubs...Maybe to coincide with the release of Episode 7??

I won an auction for the DX1 Boba Fett ROTJ chase, which was pretty much the last tough to get chase I needed...my collection is almost complete! **Emperor laugh**
